Trump Launches Trump Media & Technology Group With Social Media Platform Truth Social

“TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech.”

Former President Donald Trump announced his Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) merged with Digital World Acquisition Corp. TMTG will launch a new social media platform called TRUTH Social in early 2022.

Twitter and Facebook banned Trump after the January 6th riots.

“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech,” boasted Trump. We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence of Twiiter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable.”

Trump continued: “I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech. Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!”

The announcement said that merging TMTG with Digital World Acquisition will allow the former “to become a publicly listed company, subject to regulatory and stockholder approval.”

“The transaction values Trump Media & Technology Group at an initial enterprise value of $875 Million, with a potential additional earnout of $825 Million in additional shares (at the valuation they are granted) for a cumulative valuation of up to $1.7 Billion depending on the performance of the stock price post-business combination,” said the press release.

The initial funds will come from Digital World Acquisition’s “cash in trust of $293 Million.”

TRUTH Social comes out in 2022, but you can preorder it in App Store. It includes TMTG+, a subscription service meant to rival YouTube. Trump promises “non-woke” entertainment.

I believe this is Trump’s third attempt to launch a social media platform to rival Facebook and Twitter.

In May, Trump published a personal blog on his website. No one could respond to his posts, but they could like and share them. He shut it down after a month, but an aide described it as a “precursor” to something bigger.

In July, Trump’s team started GETTR, a social media platform described as a “cancel-free zone.” It sounds a lot like Twitter. I never used it.

I wonder if GETTR is not performing well, leading to another platform. Maybe the third time is a charm?

It doesn’t have to be truth, just entertaining. Sometimes it’s also truth.

What’s called hate speech today is free of hate, it’s just observation. Put something well and it’s entertainment too.

This will appeal mainly to a limited audience.
. . 1. Trump followers
. . 2. Independents who lean conservative

Real question – will this appeal to advertisers ?
> You can be sure that the left will target every advertisers for cancellation.

    3. People who are fed up with having Facebook &co decide which facts are acceptable for discussion or even viewing and which are not.

That’s a pretty big group, though the amount of the appeal depends on execution.

I’m a Trump follower but his rhetoric isn’t for me. I’m into his Don Rickles disposing of the media narratives, throwing sand in their gears at every turn.

I don’t ask for truth from him so much as a sharp eye for what’s not working.

Meh, another press release.

It’s easy to underestimate the time and capital required to build a modern social media platform, especially for those who don’t build web-scale software for a living.

Then there’s the challenge of getting people to actually use it once you’ve built it.

This too will be DOA (if it ever arrives).

@ Paul. You’re right. I’m not against Trump – In fact, I like his policies.

But operating a social media platform on a national or global scale is different.

It is easy to be pigeon-holed by the general media – who will label it and denigrate it if it has a hint of conservative-populist perspective. And yet – that is Trump’s strength. And in these things you want to lead with your strength.

He may find a way to make it work. Or it may just become just a niche network.
    It’s too soon to know.

He’ll have 80 million subsribers at the get go. If he takes this all the way, he’ll be a multi-billionaire again

I like Trump but Snapchat had over 200 million at one time – they are now failing.

    >>> Trump will never even get close to Snapchat.

Success is not assured. Investors best be careful.

Rumble really wanted him , I’m not sure why he’s doing this outside of the obvious amd it’s true the investment will e ginormous, maybe he has fellow billionaires helping ,Peter Thiel comes to mind.and he is a tech kind of guy

It is still outrageous that the Taliban and vicious anti Semites have access to Twitter and Trump is banned with the Democrats, the legacy media, and academia pressing Facebook and Twitter to suppress conservative thinkers and speakers

I’m extraordinarily disappointed Trump did not join Gab.com and help the one site that is truly uncensored to almost the limits of the law and is not shadow-banning anyone.

It’s run by an American in Pennsylvania, and he has been deplatformed from every service known to an internet site.

Quoting @StanleyMitchell90 on Gab:

“Just to remind people if Trump had joined Gab in 2016 Gab would now be as big as twitter, and have the money and power to influence political agendas, and put candidates in office.

Instead Trump made Jack Dorsey a lot of money and contributed to the big tech monopoly. Even after he was booted from big tech sites he refused to join anyone who wouldn’t censor and give him money.”

My disappointment with him on this point cannot be overstated. He could have given a hand up but chose not to. I believe Andrew Torba said Trump offered to buy in or something, but one of the terms was that the site would have had to censor some points of view.

Sickening. The circular firing squad, writ large.

I agree. To quote a fellow Gabster, “If a politician, influencer, figurehead, etc. says they support your freedom of speech, but they attack or don’t support Gab, they’re lying.”
