National School Boards Association Calls Protesters Against Critical Race Theory Domestic Terrorists, Requests Federal Intervention

Trying to criminalize political opposition, a sign that school board protests by parents are making in impact.

In a letter to the Biden administration September 30, the National School Boards Association (NSBA) decried the nationwide protests against critical race theory, referring to them as “a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes.” The NSBA asked the Biden administration for law enforcement assistance to address the “immediate threat” of parents showing up more often at school board meetings to address the issue, as well as concerns over mask mandates and a return to in-person learning.

Reuters reports:

On behalf of 90,000 school board members in the United States who govern 14,000 public school districts across the nation, the NSBA said it is requesting the U.S. Justice and Homeland Security departments, along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Secret Service, to track and investigate risks to students, educators, board members and campuses.

“This is a critical time for a proactive approach to deal with this difficult issue,” the organization said.

The letter, co-authored by The School Superintendents Association, reads in part:

As these acts of malice, violence, and threats against public school officials have increased, the classification of these heinous actions could be the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes. As such, NSBA requests a joint expedited review by the U.S. Departments of Justice, Education, and Homeland Security, along with the appropriate training, coordination, investigations, and enforcement mechanisms from the FBI, including any technical assistance necessary from, and state and local coordination with, its National Security Branch and Counterterrorism Division, as well as any other federal agency with relevant jurisdictional authority and oversight. Additionally, NSBA requests that such review examine appropriate enforceable actions against these crimes and acts of violence under the Gun-Free School Zones Act, the PATRIOT Act in regards to domestic terrorism, the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, the Violent Interference with Federally Protected Rights statute, the Conspiracy Against Rights statute, an Executive Order to enforce all applicable federal laws for the protection of students and public school district personnel, and any related measure. As the threats grow and news of extremist hate organizations showing up at school board meetings is being reported, this is a critical time for a proactive approach to deal with this difficult issue.

The Reuters report quoted White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki when she fielded a question about the letter:

The White House said on Thursday the administration is looking into what more it can do to keep public servants safe. “Obviously, these threats to school board members is horrible; they’re doing their jobs,” spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters. “We’re continuing to explore what more can be done across the administration but, again, a lot of this will be local law enforcement.”

The letter contains several footnotes with reference material cited to make the case. One of the citations refers back to a document published by an organization called the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED). ACLED, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit, refers to itself as “a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping project. ACLED collects the dates, actors, locations, fatalities, and types of all reported political violence and protest events” around the globe and in the US.

ACLED’s so-called “fact sheet” attempts to make the case that opposition to CRT only became widespread after President Donald Trump issued an executive order banning it from trainings for federal employees in 2020.

The obvious implication is that opposition to CRT is in itself a racist ideology. In making its case, ACLED cites a report from Media Matters for America, David Brock’s far left media watchdog site:

The frequency of demonstration events focused on CRT has been strongly correlated with media coverage
and debates over CRT-related legislation. For example, three states passed bills designed to ban CRT from public schools in June 2021 — the same month in which a majority of CRT-related demonstrations took place. A combined look at analysis of ACLED data (bars in graph below) and Media Matters analysis of CRT mentions by Fox News (line in graph below) shows a powerful correlation between increased
demonstration activity and increased negative media coverage (Media Matters, 15 June 2021).

To hear NSBA, AASA, ACLED, and Media Matters tell it, the opposition to CRT in schools is nothing more than a Fox News creation designed to rile up uneducated (and, by implication, racist) conservatives. As Media Matters says,

Critical race theory, to those who can actually define it, is an academic and legal framework that examines the impact of systemic racism on American society. For conservatives however, it’s the latest boogeyman they can use to scare people into thinking America’s children are being “indoctrinated” by “woke” leftist teachers. And while that is not even remotely the case, this idea is exploding on Fox News and in Republican-run state legislatures, leading to legislative bans in many states and skyrocketing mentions of critical race theory on the network.

The school board and superintendent organizations calling for federal law enforcement appear to be preemptively playing victim here instead of responding to a legitimate threat. Of course, this follows with the Biden administration’s focus on white supremacists as the single greatest terrorist threat the United States faces today. An overblown fear of domestic terrorists makes for a great diversion from the parents across the nation with legitimate questions about what their kids learn at these schools. The NSBA seems to have forgotten that, as elected officials, school board members are not supposed to be the bosses–the parents are.

In times of direct action, people like these would be subject to a rifle butt smacked across their teeth. I suspect these times will be coming.

Just like in the Soviet Union and Communist China, anyone who dissents from government officialdom’s proclamations is an enemy of the state and a ‘domestic terrorist’.

BTW, ‘our’ federal government has declared that parents are not the primary stakeholders in what government schools teach their kids. The unspoken implication is the state is the primary stakeholder.

Which helps explain why upwards of 75% of the kids ‘graduating’ from inner city schools are largely ignorant of math, can’t read for comprehension, and can’t string together more than two coherent sentences. But they have high self esteem. Know they are oppressed by racists, homophobes, misogynists, transphobes, ‘rich’ white males, and Trump supporters. And, most importantly, they vote Democrat and ‘mostly peacefully’ protest as needed.

Welcome to the Soviet States of Amerika, comrade.

So far, the domestic terrorists list has featured former military, former police, Trump voters, all white Americans, Tea Party, and others. So now they are going to add parents who take responsibility for the upbringing of their children. I’m wondering when they are going to add the 60% of black who refuse the vaccine, the latinos who voted for Trump and are opposed to illegal immigration, and heck, anyone who stands in the way of cancelling out all of the anti-American illegals who will be voting.

Yes, I know the rage everyone feels inside. But lets be nice and show them by example that we are better. /sarc

According to the letter co-authored by The National School Boards Association and the School Superintendents Association, “acts of malice, violence, and threats against public school officials have increased.”

Has there in fact been a significant number of acts of violence against public school officials by parents protesting CRT in the schools? I am not interested in the hysteria from either side; just the facts, ma’am.

In a world where mere silence is now “violence,” who can say?
Domestic terrorism, hate crimes… these are novel (and purposely vague and mutable) political “crimes” that didn’t even exist 30 years ago… except first in Germany, and then Canada, neither of which had America’s Bill of RIghts.
And now, clearly, neither do we.
And now we see the little bullies running to the big bully for protection, when one of their targeted nerds had the gall to talk back.

Their paranoia is the basis for their actions. These are mentally unbalanced people to start with. Their autistic world can’t handle reality.

geronl in reply to Geologist. | October 1, 2021 at 8:33 pm

If it happens even once it would be front page news nationwide.

Idonttweet in reply to Geologist. | October 2, 2021 at 10:30 pm

Remember that in the madrassas or “schools” in the so-called Palestinian territories or Iran, the children receive racist indoctrination to hate Jews and Israel and to attack them every chance they get, including wearing suicide bomb to blow themselves up on buses or in crowded areas. Remember that?

Do you also remember when, not that terribly long ago, teachers, school administrators, and school boards, actively encouraged parents to take more interest and be more involved in their children’s’ schools. Indeed, there was much lamenting the lack of parental interest and involvement in school activities.

And now, school boards want parents who are concerned about the racist and radical indoctrination their children are getting in schools labeled extremists, domestic terrorists, domestic threats and worse. Can’t an argument be made that it is the school boards who are the extremists and domestic threats?

Comanche Voter | October 1, 2021 at 5:46 pm

In Soviet lingo these parents are “hoarders and wreckers”. And the penalty for being a hoarder or wrecker in Stalin era Russia was the deposit of 9 grams of lead in the back of the “wreckers” head.

School boards have gone for years drifting along into progressive idiocy and haven’t been challenged–until now. It makes them uncomfortable. To which I say “eat buffalo chips”.

henrybowman in reply to Comanche Voter. | October 1, 2021 at 7:34 pm

Oh, don’t you dare make socialist crybullies “uncomfortable.” That deprives them of their “right to feel safe,” and threatens their very existence!

I’m telling you…..create fear at school board meetings by holding signs that say “torch” on one side, “Pitchfork” on the other.

Let them howl…..you can’t get in trouble for a sign with words on it.

Video is needed. Let “them” approach you and create a scene as you sit quietly. Have someone capture the result, and share like crazy.

“They” will more than likely respond with much hate and furious anger. Thank you, Jules. You are a bad MF.

Turn their tactics on them.

scooterjay in reply to scooterjay. | October 1, 2021 at 6:10 pm

….and if “they” ask why the “torch” and “pitchfork”, tell them the torch represents the light of knowledge and the pitchfork means we need to toss aside our differences and do what is right for ALL students.

Of course, both parties know better…..that is why you offer your explanation with a shit-eating grin on your face.

These people haven’t seen anything yet.

Milhouse in reply to scooterjay. | October 3, 2021 at 1:32 am

There’s no need for that. The first amendment protects your right to protest, including your right to warn the board members that if they continue to ride roughshod over the parents the parents will have to resort to violence. Legally that is not a threat, it is protected speech. Just like declaring that “If they ever make me carry a rifle the first man I want to get in my sights is L.B.J.”

geronl in reply to scooterjay. | October 1, 2021 at 8:37 pm

But they have precedent, they have been holding some “terrorists” for more than a decade in Guantanamo without even accusing them of anything. In one case they openly admit the guy never did anything but preach against America. In other words, something that would be defended as free speech under the Constitution. Since nobody ever cared, the government decides that anyone called a terrorist can be treated that way.

Lexman in reply to geronl. | October 1, 2021 at 9:05 pm

Who are you referring to as ‘held for preaching’? I understand that a better picture of a typical prisoner ,of the very few still held at Guantanamo, would be the proud mass murderer Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Milhouse in reply to geronl. | October 3, 2021 at 1:39 am

That is an outright falsehood. Nobody is being held for merely preaching against America. Nobody at all. Preaching is free speech. Advocacy, of anything, including violent crime, is free speech.

Unless you’re talking about a foreigner who did his preaching outside the USA, and thus was not protected by the constitution.

Most prisoners held at Guantanamo were not accused of any crime, they were prisoners of war. They had taken up arms against the USA, and therefore the USA had the right to capture them and hold them for as long as necessary. And yes, that includes chaplains in the enemy’s army.

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to scooterjay. | October 2, 2021 at 12:19 pm

In some really candy-assed places, the police will declare the poles for the signs to be weapons.

Parents need to force these fascists out of office. It is a shame Garland is such a hack that he will likely try to arrest people and hold them without a trial for months on end. Because that is his MO.

The Left is at war with old America that they treat us their enemy. They have been destroying it. The best defense to their woke cancelations is an offense. Cancel the Left on Facebook, Instragram, and social media. Cancel them at work. Don’t do business with them. Don’t buy from any company that advertises woke-left messages. If they teach left-woke concepts at school, take your kids out and enroll them in charter schools. Don’t support any public unions.

Timely article today on ZeroHedge.com about the numerous frightening parallels between Wokeism and Orwell’s 1984.

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to ruralguy. | October 2, 2021 at 12:20 pm

    “Don’t support any public unions.”

We are compelled to do that. The school board has people with badges, guns, and eviction orders when you don’t pay your property taxes.

George_Kaplan | October 1, 2021 at 6:34 pm

This is getting dangerous. Antifa and the BLM riot for years on end, commit arson, assault, loot, and murder, yet they aren’t domestic terrorists they’re mostly peaceful protesters, or ideas. Parents peacefully object to the indoctrination of their children with hateful ideology and suddenly they’re domestic terrorists.

Wrong is right, and Right is evil that must be destroyed in the eyes of the Left.

This from Ace and Sexton at HotAir fits well here….

… a UCLA professor … has been suspended for not agreeing that blacks should be graded more leniently in college.

The SJWs passed around screenshots of his email declining to give blacks special Racial Advantages in grading.

Over the next week, Klein received death threats on his voicemail and police officers were eventually stationed outside his house. The school’s dean responded to the situation not by defending Klein but by suspending him and banning him from campus.

Domestic terrorism?

Is it pitchfork time yet?

Opposition to race-based hate in schools is now terrorism? Burning down cities is not?

“On behalf of 90,000 school board members in the United States who govern 14,000 public school districts across the nation,”

How many are actually members?

At our local elementary school, they have half the kids eating outdoors for COVID spacing. This is using the 6 ft of spacing guidelines instead of the 3 ft that “science” says is ok… (and yes, actual science and logic was out the door so long ago with these people).

They let the kids choose which one they wanted (when the weather was still warm). It’s not warm anymore, it’s October.

But it gets worse.

Last week they decided it was too hard to roll lunch tables outside in the covered play area, so they are having them eat on yoga mats, on the ground.

I’ve bitched out the principal here so many times (w/out being vulgar or swearing mind you- but clearly letting her know we won’t put up with her shit) they no longer allow communication between me and her and I can only talk to someone at the district office. I was pretty sure they were going to be stupid enough to say “no” on requesting my kid sit inside at a table like they’ve done on everything else, but they wisely chose to not fight me on this one.

We’ll see how it works out for the parents who don’t pack a flame thrower of insults for a vocabulary. I sincerely hope I make at least 10 people in the school district go to bed at night hating me.

These are political positions…why don’t more conservatives run?

scooterjay in reply to Paul. | October 2, 2021 at 12:27 am

In my home county (Marlboro) in SC conservatives run, but never win.
The answer in so many counties that are in “The Corridor of Shame” is simple….Identity politics.
The same ones that heralded Dr Martin Luther King now feel compelled to vote on skin tone.

SDN in reply to Paul. | October 2, 2021 at 3:20 pm

“Peaceful protesters”. Calls to your boss that you’re a raaaaacist and did he hire you because he’s one too?

The vile Dhimmi-crats really are this manifestly stupid and lacking in self-awareness, that they are incapable of perceiving how brazenly Orwellian and totalitarian this idiotic move is, and, how it is fairly construed as such by any American possessing a modicum of rationality and intelligence (i.e., non-Dhimmi-crats).

Yet another sign that the national security state is a major threat to all of us. Nobody believes the demonization of Muslims so the national security state has moved on we are it’s next target.

alaskabob in reply to Danny. | October 2, 2021 at 11:27 am

Except the core beliefs of Islam are specifically in conflict with USA values and institutions.

Danny in reply to alaskabob. | October 2, 2021 at 7:48 pm

Does that include the Muslims who live 6 feet underground in Arlington? Nobody believed the demonization of Muslims which is why the national security state dropped it and moved onto the next target.

Milhouse in reply to Danny. | October 3, 2021 at 1:53 am

Many Moslems are not really religious, and are not a threat. Most Moslems have never read the Koran and Hadiths in full, and are unaware of what their claimed religion really teaches. Many of them would be appalled if they knew, and would abandon it. But there’s always the risk that they will get religion and attempt to atone for their sinful past by pulling a Nidal Hassan.

To understand how the German people let the Nazi terror take over Germany one only needs to watch how the people of the USA are letting the “Covid” reign of terror crush freedom and liberty under the assertion that slavery is freedom. Orwell saw it from the inside (he was a communist at one time). Now, we get to see how Hitler gained control. Will we let our children be slaves? Research neo-Malthusian eugenics where the government has the “right” to control the population. Also, research the work of Stanley Milgram (1960s) on Obedience to Authority and how it applies to the “I am only following orders.” (the common German defense at Nuremburg) as it will be asserted by many medical staff and parents in due time.

    Milhouse in reply to TX-rifraph. | October 3, 2021 at 1:55 am

Orwell was never a communist. On the contrary, from his point of view the communists were right-wing saboteurs, and enemies of the left. See Homage to Catalonia.

And Milgram’s study was not valid. Participants knew it was an experiment, and correctly assumed that nothing they did could actually harm the subject.

      TX-rifraph in reply to Milhouse. | October 3, 2021 at 10:42 am

I agree Orwell was not a Communist. He was a Socialist. I conflated the two. My error.

Regarding Milgram, what is your source for the invalidity of the studies or that participants knew anything in advance of the experiments? I have read criticisms regarding the ethical dimensions but I have only seen unsupported assertions regarding invalidity.

The National School Boards Association (NSBA) is simply self-identifying as the enemy in this war for the Constitutional republic. I hope nobody is surprised.

absent some extraordinary circumstance (such as imminent danger)–NOTHING on this planet, no government, no bureaucracy, no media group, no narrative, no union, NOTHING supersedes a parent’s right to raise their child as they see fit

that’s not ” A ” truth, that is ” THE ” truth

And thus COVID is classified as an “imminent danger”. Raaaaacism is a public health crisis.

texansamurai in reply to SDN. | October 3, 2021 at 8:33 am

was thinking more along the lines of obvious physical/mental abuse–don’t believe school boards can stretch that to include an ” imminent danger ” from a virus with a less than 1% mortality rate, especially in young people
