Democrats Slash More Programs From Still Massive Spending Bill To Get Manchin and Sinema Votes

“Senate Democrats have dropped the paid family and medical leave proposals from the social spending package after negotiations with moderate Democrats failed to reach a compromise on a pared-down version of the proposals”

Last week Joe Biden warned progressive Democrats that free college probably isn’t going to make the final cut of their spending bill. Now they are cutting other items from the bill.

They’re trying very hard to get Sinema and Manchin on board, but it’s still not clear if it’ll work.

Michael Lee reports at FOX News:

Senate Democrats cut paid family and medical leave from spending package: report

Senate Democrats have dropped the paid family and medical leave proposals from the social spending package after negotiations with moderate Democrats failed to reach a compromise on a pared-down version of the proposals, according to a report.

Democrats decided to drop the proposals on Wednesday despite that they were a key campaign promise of President Biden, according to reporting from Politico. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., one the senate’s leading advocates for the benefits, had tried to reach a last-minute deal with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., who has resisted the overall cost of the package.

But Gillibrand told Fox News Wednesday that reports about the benefits being dropped are “premature,” signaling hope that some sort of pared-down version could still be in play.

Manchin has argued that the cost of the proposals is too high when some social programs are already in jeopardy of running low on funds.

“I’m talking to everybody, but I’ve been very clear: to expand social programs, when you have trust funds that aren’t solvent — they’re going insolvent — I can’t explain that … It doesn’t make sense to me … I just can’t do it,” Manchin said Wednesday.

Some people on the left are starting to think the bill has been gutted beyond the point of even passing it.

There’s been so much infighting among Democrats over this. They keep putting out the message that they’re so close to a deal, but it keeps falling apart.

Politico reports:

Liberal frustration imperils quick Dem social spending deal

A flurry of cuts to Democrats’ domestic priorities endangered a quick deal on President Joe Biden’s agenda on Wednesday after a frenetic 24 hours of negotiating between the president and two moderate senators.

An axed paid leave program and a proposed elimination of a tax on billionaires, as well as the tenuous state of prescription drug reform and Medicare expansion, slowed down progress between Biden and Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.). After meeting with Biden on Wednesday afternoon, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said there’s “no way” a deal is reached before Thursday.

“The problem is not with the president, the problem is with members here who, although they are very few in number … that think they have a right to determine what the rest of the Congress should be doing. And I strongly disagree,” Sanders said. “It’s not conceivable to me that we’re going to have a deal today.”

If this stretches beyond November 2nd, and it looks like it will, and if Youngkin defeats McAuliffe, which he could, Biden’s political capital will be severely diminished.

What happens then? Would Democrats pass a massively scaled back version of the bill or scrap it and start all over again?

Political smoke and mirrors. Shoot for the moon so when you back down to what you really want it looks beign.

In this case it appears more a case of ‘Sin in haste, repent in leisure’, at least IMO. The d/prog tried to jam this thing through quickly, the Senate slowed it down and the delay allowed some of the provisions to become widely known. The public generally opposes the elements of the legislation. They made their voices heard.

It’s entirely possible nothing passes, including the ‘bipartisan’ infrastructure bill. The d/prog tried to stretch a slim majority in the HoR and a 50/50 Senate into a functional broad majority. Realty seems to have kicked them in the jimmy and they don’t appear to have a plan b.

Absolutely, the same old rope a dope.

Seems like a terrible waste. If all that money in the budget was free why are they slashing it? Buttigieg summed it up best, “How am I gonna get by only six months of paid paternal leave?”

PELOSI HOLDING AMERICAN JOBS HOSTAGE

The bi-partisan infrastructure bill passed the Senate months ago. Pelosi and the radical left are holding it hostage along with the 1+ million jobs that it would create to fix our broken roads and bridges.

Pelosi blew past her original September deadline – then she set October 31 as a deadline. NOW it looks like even Oct 31 will be missed.

If a Republican Speaker had held back Job-Creating legislation – the MEDIA would have had headlines everyday about the evil Repubs. Tell me – have you seen any headlines in the last 3 weeks about evil Democrats and radical party members holding back USA jobs ? ?

I take it that’s a quote, although it isn’t so indicated. Pelosi isn’t “holding jobs hostage”. There are millions of jobs out there that aren’t being filled, and this bill is roughly 10% or so “infrastructure” and 90% Dem wishlist and vote buying.

Government bills and programs don’t “ create” jobs, not real jobs.

REPARATIONS FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

Behold, the Moderate, Centrist, Reasonable Democrat who had Decency and would Restore Our Norms, promised to us and propagandized for by the left-liberal corporatist NeverTrump faction.

Why do these people still have jobs?

Oh, right, because leftist billionaires continue paying them to propagandize in favor of the Democrat Party.

I know there’s a lot of hyperbole around these days, but honestly, IF TRUE, this is the kind of bullshit that people pick up guns and start shooting over.

You cannot possibly believe that giving ILLEGALS literally HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR FREE when the average American makes a fraction of that for hard work, is going to simply be accepted quietly.

IT’S TRUE – WSJ REPORTS BIDEN WANTS TO PAY $450,000 PER PERSON WHO ILLEGALLY CAME TO THE USA AND WAS SEPARATED FROM A FAMILY MEMBER DURING THE INTAKE PROCESS

It is so nuts that I did not believe it — but I found the actual article on the Wall Street Journal online edition. See link below.

WTF. They estimate it would involve a transfer of $1 Billion of our tax dollars to illegal immigrants.

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-administration-in-talks-to-pay-hundreds-of-millions-to-immigrant-families-separated-at-border-11635447591?mod=hp_lead_pos7

I expect LI will soon have a post on this – it’s unbelievable. we are all immigrants. I have family members who came to the USA. They were terribly discriminated against in the initial years. Yes – they were separated too. NO ONE EVER GAVE THEM ALMOST HALF A MILLION DOLLARS FOR THEIR PAIN AND SUFFERING – EMOTIONAL DISTRESS.

WTF is happening to this country ? Is this really a country ? Citizens are treated like shit. But the new ruling class wants to import their voters and blatantly transfer citizen jobs and citizen $$ to these criminals (they broke our law to come across the border). THey also get free healthcare, free welfare, use stolen SS numbers and get free flights and bus rides all around America – wherever Dems think they could be useful.

NYC want to give illegal (sorry “undocumented”) people a right to vote in local elections.

      Again, is this a country ? WHY DO I PAY TAXES ? ? ? WHY ? ?
NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. NO BORDER – NO TAX ! ! !

Meanwhile – those who patiently wait in line to come here legally get squat. How is that fair to them. ACTUALLY, why wouls ANYONE ever follow the rules to come legally ? THey can just get to Mexico and walk across the border and claim asylum.

WHAT OTHER COUNTRY DOES THIS ? ? IS ANY OTHER COUNTRY – HALF AS STUPID AS THE USA ? ? ?

Let’s Go Brandon. Way to F*ck your county’s citizens.
HUNTER gets to make $500,000 from bullshit art. While we all get screwed.

CapeBuffalo in reply to Ben Kent. | October 29, 2021 at 2:39 am

That was an epic rant!! A five star rant ! You are saying what an awful lot of people are feeling, thinking, discussing, and as you, rightfully ranting!
The giant is no longer asleep.

lurker9876 in reply to Ben Kent. | October 29, 2021 at 11:37 am

This could bring a massive class action lawsuit filed for ALL US citizens!!

So bankrupting the country later than sooner?

I told you it was going to happen. They were going to make a bullshit ‘heroic stand’ against the insane overspending $3.5 trillion, reduce to a still-insane level of overspending of $2.something trillion, with a few nice kickbacks for Machin and Sinema in there, and then act like they cured fucking cancer by voting for it that they got them to cut SOME insanity from it.

Manchin and Sinema ARE NOT MODERATES. They’re Democrats that make a much bigger show of bullshit before they vote Democrat anyway.

CommoChief in reply to Olinser. | October 28, 2021 at 7:54 pm

Well it ain’t over yet. It sure would be nice to have one or both the GA Senate seats in r hands so we aren’t dependent upon the good graces of any d. Though that would have required the 200k + GA r who voted in Nov who decided that their vote ‘wouldn’t matter’ to have shown up and cast a ballot in the Jan run off election.

The best way to elect d/prog is for those opposed to them to give up, stay home and refuse to vote for a r.

Democrats always run as moderates but try to govern as radicals with or without a mandate

    SNEAKY

In recent years, Democrats have been sneaky and masters of dirty tricks. I do not know if they were always this way I really did not start focusing on politics until about 6 years ago. Yes, Politics has always been a blood-sport, But it seems that whatever underhandedness that there was previously has increased by a magnitude of 10x or more with radical liberals leading the way. See some examples below.

2016 – – DNC Blocked Sanders from nomination, favoring Hillary Clinton – dirty tricks
    2016 to 2019 – Russia Hoax / Trump Hysteria
2020 – – Election dirty tricks – Covid, Media Censorship – Absentee Balloting
2021 – – Anti-Parent Dirty Tricks – DOJ directs FBI to go after PARENTS

Printing all these trillions of dollars of extra money will ensure that inflation continues to increase up to the Jimmy Carter levels.

actually I think we have already hit Jimmy Carter level of inflation, we are looking at Zimbabwe/Venezuela levels of inflation

Sanders was said by Hillary Clinton to be the most unpopular member of the Senate to other Senators. Some of both parties refuse even to talk to the greedy, lazy loon. It is an award well earned.

Does ANYBODY here trust McConnell and McCarthy anymore?

At all?

Here’s what a working Republican looks like:

https://citizenfreepress.com/breaking/marjorie-taylor-greene-crushes-rino-skulls/

A few members, Bernie? If that is what you call 52 Senators that refuse to go along with your spending spree then I guess you do think you are ruling without needing any input.

Just prior to the dumpster-fire gas station events Kyle had attempted to move northward across 60th and a newly-established police line as they pressed ‘protesters’ south away from the courthouse on 56th. He was turned back by the police, but that would have taken him back to his compatriots at the northerly car lot at 59th and AWAY from the crowd of people (such as Rosenbaum, Grosskreutz, Huber, and Ziminksi). That would seem odd behavior – going to where there were no threats and behind but in close proximity to a police line – if his goal was to induce an attack he could use an excuse to shoot someone over.

Read a article even if only $2T it will lead to $5T in yearly spending down the road increasing programs giveaways.

When they cut it back til it doesn’t cost anything in real dollars I’ll tell my rep. to vote for it.
