The Revolution Is Swarming, But Can Be Defeated

The Revolution Is Swarming, But Can Be Defeated

Mollie Hemingway: “… [T]he left has taken over every single one of the powerful institutions in the country…. All of a sudden, the conservative project is not a conservative one, so much as a counter-revolutionary one.”

I’ve written for years about the loss of institutions, and the related life in a post-truth world in which narrative not evidence is all that matters. Just visit any campus or speak to anyone subjected to cancel culture — the mob is not interested in evidence or debate, they are interested in power and bringing people to heel.

Many if not most conservative institutions have proven incapable of stopping the march through institutions. Something different is needed.

Mollie Hemingway made this point eloquently in her Bradley Prize acceptance speech on Sept. 13, What The Right Needs Now Is The Courage To Fight Even If It Costs Us:

The conservative movement in D.C. has too often been engaged in insincere opposition to progressivism’s march through America’s institutions, both public and private. It has seemed mostly interested in negotiating terms of surrender or managing defeat than preserving the republic. It has stood athwart history impotently suggesting that progressives slow down. Michael Malice has therefore derided conservatism as just “Progressivism with a speed limit.” Institutional conservatism and its alleged leaders have too frequently accepted the propaganda press’s treatment of conservatives as second-class citizens.

For conservatism to mean anything now, it has to be about rejecting this rigged system. Don’t just say “stop.”  Our duty is to not to say “stop” but then bend the knee in cowardice when the mob comes. That brings even more harm to our more vulnerable neighbors and does nothing to prevent the destruction of the country.

It’s not comfortable for conservatives who value order and civility to even think or speak this way. But the fact is that many Americans are alienated from and no longer feel at home in their own country. The moral climate has been degraded as the left has taken over every single one of the powerful institutions in the country and is actively pushing people to lead a life of godlessness, barrenness, selfishness, gluttony, and addiction to outrage and dopamine.

All of a sudden, the conservative project is not a conservative one, so much as a counter-revolutionary one.

But what to do? Do something. Do anything. Hemingway writes:

It’s not enough, though, that someone fights. The fight must be smart and tactical. While we are clearly entering an era where dissidents will be required, there’s no value in secular martyrdom or being just another victim of the regime. The fight must be supplemented by prudence and strategy. Be bold and defiant, but we must also know where to aim our fire.

On the other hand, figuring out where to aim our fire is not that difficult right now. It brings to mind a quote from legendary Marine Chesty Puller: “They are in front of us, behind us, and we are flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us 29:1. They can’t get away from us now!”

It’s a target-rich environment. Now go out and pick one.

It’s a point I made in response to reader responses to my October 12, 2017, post Legal Insurrection is 9 years old, and filled with dread. Win small fights. Do something.

It’s really important that we all do something. What I do is Legal Insurrection, as well as giving whatever support I can to conservative and pro-Israel students on campus.

You can’t change the political world alone. But you can help change a local school board, a local election, or something else that affects your life.

It’s important work, whatever you do. So long as you do something.

You are now the counter culture. You are now the extremists – the revolutionaries. As a result, you shall be monitored, discriminated against, and suppressed. Get used to it. Figure out how to respond, but do not expect fair play, equity, or compassion. There shall be none.

Rarely do I now consider or call myself a conservative. To me, there’s precious little to conserve when it’s the lefties who are demanding that Roe v. Wade be conserved by being written into federal statutes. So many states now have enacted statutes which state that if Roe is overturned by the USSC, the Roe ruling will continue on in those states.

As I say, they are the ones conserving their vicious laws and culture.

“So many states now have enacted statutes which state that if Roe is overturned by the USSC, the Roe ruling will continue on in those states.”

That seems ironic. Wasn’t one of the main arguments against Roe v. Wade that the decision to allow abortion or not should be left to/remain with the individual states?

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to fscarn. | September 22, 2021 at 11:16 pm

      “….there’s precious little to conserve.”

Now that you are the counter culture, this is rather true. Highly insightful!

Start by cleaning up/resolving/uniting your inner circle. Control your own personal space and expand it. Put your head where your feet are and dominate. Nobody tells you where to put your feet and don’t worry about the next mile. Dominate your space.

Drop the labels. Reduce this to the basics. Don’t get trapped into the label game (you aren’t a REAL conservative etc…). God, family, community, country. We are about shared values. Talk about those values and come to an agreement. Keep it basic. Most religions share the same core values.

Find snappy sayings to end illogical but passionately sincere but self-defeating talk. Passionately sincere people who don’t know what to do are weak. Force them to think about their values. My favorite: “If there is nothing in your life you are will to risk dying for, maybe you have nothing to live for.” Then everything falls into place. Are you willing to fight and die for your political party? For Hollywood? Family? Friends? Your way of life? “Inclusiveness”? “Equity”? Get down to the bare bones of existence. Keep it simple. Make the people you know, people closest to you listen to their own nonsense.

If you can’t occupy and dominate your own personal space, if you can’t unite your own family and friends around what really matters in those relationships, you have a lot of work to do on yourself. You may end up with a smaller circle but at least you will have a strong base to work from. Like Andrew Brietbart said, “Be the hero you are looking for.”

We are not going to win this war alone. But we better know who we are and clean up our own spaces if we are going to unite around something. We can’t keep defeating ourselves by finding reasons for why we are going to lose and then chop each other to pieces with moot court debates. The tide is turning and we are not grasping the opportunities. Bill Maher, Nicki Menaj, a list that is growing faster and faster. The “hard core left” is fragmenting. Stop the “told you so!” idiocy. Seize the day!

Ric Grenell was interviewed a few days ago and he bought up a problem that really needs to be addressed: we need to re-establish a common public square for ALL to meet and discuss our problems. And the opportunity is presented by the “conservative” media that has sprung up autonomously despite fighting a war for its own space. We have the fastest growing audience by far while the “woke” propaganda media self-destructs. The time has come to open up that echo chamber to all who are willing to speak factually. Do that and suddenly the “hearts and minds” of the majority will find a home.

Most Americans by far are patriotic. Believe it. Let that guide you. We can win this because “we” outnumber “them” and we are stronger at the core. We just need to get more organized, unify around our shared beliefs (beyond our echo chamber) and find the courage to act boldly… even if it seems like small, insignificant steps. How insignificant can it be when they are calling out the police and military over masks and “vaccines”?

      Bravo!

Fine sentiment, but like the article there is no practical suggestion for action here. It’s just so much more “we need to do something” and that’s where it ends.

We know the fringe left is a minority but a minority that has usurped all US institutional power. What can ruin the major players like Antifa and BLM and the ACLU and the various outlets for corporate “journalism”? Clearly, argument is not working and the political solution–voting locally for conservative candidates–seems not to be succeeding either. This to me suggests political violence is not far off, and if so, let it come down. I know which side I am on. Peaceful succession of Red states is a pipe dream, Mr. Woods, wherever you are.

I am open to suggestions and have plenty of free time.

Suggestion number one: learn how to read. Your position is that you would do something if only someone would tell you what to do? Lame, lame, lame. I intentionally included wording about people like you see nothing but defeat and don’t know what to do.

    Please!

Conservatives and the Republican Party aren’t capable of pushing back against the onslaught of Marxism.

Even people commenting on LI would rather excoriate commenters for rough language and harsh comments.

Most here would rather have soft chains of tyranny than to get their hands dirty.

Conservatives and Republicans. “Go ahead and hang me, but use a clean rope!”

The problem is not that they can’t be defeated.

The problem is that there are way too many jackasses in conservative ‘leadership’ positions that refuse to fight AT ALL. We’re constantly told that we ‘can’t fight’ or ‘can’t win’ on a whole host of issues.

There is no clearer example of this crap than the blatant and open censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop. The RINOs did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it even when they were theoretically ‘in control’. And since then the censorship has gone up to 11 with anything they deem ‘misinformation’ about COVID.

THERE IS A DOMESTIC COLD WAR

When I speak publicly – I get push back and insults. But privately people come to me and express support. They are jus scared to talk opening because the progressives are bullies and extortionists. First thing they always want to do is find out who your employer is – so they can pressure them to fire you.

Really, there are millions of Americans who are fed up with all this and want to end the Biden / Progressive bullshit. Millions are now aware that the Progressive goal is to destroy this country from within.

It’s now, or never. We have to join together to fight. There are many excuses – the Rinos, etc. We can’t wait for the “perfect leader”. Support anyone with the guts to stand up.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to Olinser. | September 22, 2021 at 11:19 pm

And if they retake the house and senate, they will do nothing, like investigating the Biden corruption. Gee, it’s just not nice.

I have come to the conclusion they do not investigate Democrats because they do not want anyone investigating them.

What they do not seem to realize is that their restraint shall fail to restrain the other side.

Fearful little Corrupticans. That is what I see.

Bringing cases to court is as effective as pleading with a mugger. The law is an ass. Revolution

I fear we will end up with some sort of Hitler.

Tax revolt, anyone?

henrybowman in reply to scooterjay. | September 22, 2021 at 10:47 pm

Tax revolt is tough, unless you withdraw 100% of your funds from banks and brokerages, and surround your house with claymores (if you’ll be shunning the property tax as well).

Oh, it’s going to end with blood being shed. There is no doubt about it. Dark days ahead for liberty and freedom.

Actually, the counter-culture started awhile ago, and is proceeding apace. It is usually darkest before the light. There is more damage that will occur, but there are too many sane people ready to return to sanity. It will be a long way to get back. There is a reason, however, that progressive-Marxists are so crazed. They know the handwriting is on the wall.

Brave Sir Robbin | September 22, 2021 at 11:24 pm

“There is a reason, however, that progressive-Marxists are so crazed. They know the handwriting is on the wall.”

Or maybe they are like sharks and simply smell blood in the water and see their prey helplessly thrashing in the water.

But keep it peaceful folks – keep it peaceful.

We need to focus on an institution to capture – not protect, but capture. It will be a very long process.

They commonly overestimate, but have underestimated the public resentment they have brought with their coercive policies and hypocrisy.

Was watching Gutfeld! No. 1 in its slot. Contrasted with the tripe of Hollywood and sports. The school boards. The growing objections regarding mandates. More Biden screw-ups and corruption to follow. It’s cumulative. Yes, it will be a long process, until the tide has actually turned. Then things happen fast. The USSR collapsed like a house of cards. The reality is that events will also have their say.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to oldschooltwentysix. | September 23, 2021 at 12:39 am

And yet the people voted overwhelmingly to retain Gavin Newsome as governor in California.

The reality of events will indeed have their say, but this will be a long and very difficult road to regain the culture and its institutions.

I would also prefer winning while avoiding societal or economic collapse. However, the opposition seems quite determined to bring this about do matter what we do.

        “The people voted overwhelmingly”

I have seen no proof that the votes claimed for him were actually cast. And that’s the way we have to look at it these days. If they don’t show proof that the voting was on
the up and up, assume it was rigged and act accordingly.

Anything else is ceding them the high ground.

It has become a long process because we have allowed it to be so. We can end this faster than you think… if we are willing to accept the consequences. We are fighting an enemy that is trying to kill us but we still insist on being “civilized”. When King George III declared war on the colonial protestors, they declared their independence. We just shrivel up and hide. But we’re “nice” about it.

We’re already at war – with our government:

Taylor Lee, FDA Economist: “Go to the unvaccinated and blow it [COVID vaccine] into them. Blow dart it into them.”

Lee: “Census goes door-to-door if you don’t respond. So, we have the infrastructure to do it [forced COVID vaccinations]. I mean, it’ll cost a ton of money. But I think, at that point, I think there needs to be a registry of people who aren’t vaccinated. Although that’s sounding very [much like Nazi] Germany.”

Lee: “Nazi Germany…I mean, think about it like the Jewish Star [for unvaccinated Americans].”

Lee: “I’m gonna go door-to-door and stab everyone [with the COVID vaccine], ‘Oh, it’s just your booster shot! There you go!’”

Lee: “So, if you put every anti-vaxxer, like sheep, into like Texas and you closed off Texas from the rest of the world, and you go, ‘Okay, you be you in Texas until we deal with this [pandemic].’”

Lee: “All of the wealthy white people are getting vaccinated because they’re educated.”

Lee: “There are political appointees [at the FDA] that are generally scientific advisors or are appointed by the president or the commission…They’re being paid based on if the other people are staying in power.”

Lee: “Unfortunately, everyone ends up playing politics, but I don’t think that the career scientists are — I think that it’s the people that they’re unfortunately having to report to because these political appointees are being put in place and that’s part of like — the Senate confirms the people to then just pick their people.”

It’s true — conservatives are the revolutionaries. The totalitarian, obnoxious, vindictive and intolerant Dhimmi-crats now constitute the Establishment power that they once claimed to oppose.

Unlike a mechanical system, which can easily be modeled with classical mathematical models that validate predictions, the United States is a large complex system based on complicated human behaviors. Economist know that these proper micro-behaviors, such as trust, cooperation, the ability to network, etc, are critical to forming an advanced economy and nation. We had those cooperative behaviors, but we no longer have them. Because of this, the system is failing. One failure that we entered a year ago, last July, was the point at which the nation’s seigniorage started to decrease real-money holdings — the equivalent of a heart attack. It’s a key indicator the Government is broke and systematic failure is in progress. To fix the nation’s problems would require fixing the underlying behaviors that the economy depends on. This isn’t going to happen. It will only change by failing.

Conservatism, as understood by most, is impotent to stop the left because it shares basic premises with the left. Advocating for individualism requires a certain righteousness when calling for one’s owns rights. It requires a certain egoism, and an intellectual certainty that does not back down in the face fo accusations of being “selfish” for wanting to take on the responsibilities of leading your own life.

I suggest starting local. DC is a lost cause for now. Local elections are too plentiful to Dominion the results. I don’t trust the state or national elections But I still participate to make them cheat to win.

couple of things to be crystal clear about: marxists will not surrender power willingly and they will not go quietly–we can be fair, reasoned, tolerant but to expect reciprocal treatment from them is fatal

be aware

“All politics is local” to quote Thomas “Tip” O’Neal. Patriots need to organize at the local level. Many so-called “Conservatives” are spineless jellyfish, like RINOS in the Republican Party. Fight whenever you can, wherever you can be effective. Know who’s running for local offices. Know who’s running for your school board. Know who’s running for your state’s House and Senate. Know who’s running for Federal offices. Know what any candidates political stance is on any subject you care about. Stay informed and don’t depend on the Enemy Media or “social media” for your information. Question authority and chart your own course. Only cattle and sheep “follow the crowd”.
