Reality Hits as Portland Nixes Ludicrous Plan to Boycott Texas, Donates to Planned Parenthood Instead

The city council vote did not go quite the way that Mayor Ted Wheeler planned.

Earlier this month, we noted that the mayor of Portland, Oregon (the incomparably incompetent Ted Wheeler) threatened to have the city council vote to boycott Texas.

The move was in response to the Texas heartbeat law.

The vote did not go quite as planned by Wheeler.

Portland, Ore., abandoned plans this week to ban city business with Texas over the Lone Star State’s controversial new abortion law amid worries it would hurt the Texans most affected by it.

The City Council voted 4-1 on Wednesday to instead set aside $200,000 for organizations that provide reproductive care.

The sole “no” vote was by Commissioner Mingus Mapps, who said he was “mystified” by the allocation of funds.

“Our city is overwhelmed by multiple crises. This council should focus on solving those,” he said. “We have a gun violence crisis. We have a homelessness crisis. We have a trash crisis. And we have a pandemic.”

The problem with the proposed boycott is that Texas has goods and services Portland needs...millions of dollars worth.

The announcement of a possible ban by Portland on doing business with Texas appeared to have come long before the actual policy making, as officials scrambled to nail down how such a boycott would work or could impact Oregon’s largest city.

Spokesperson Heather Hafer said the city had purchased slightly less than $35 million in goods and services from Texas in the past five years.

During Labor Day, city officials met with reproductive health care providers and advocates to discuss the boycott. Wheeler said advocates “disagreed with some elements of” of the ban and suggested alternatives.

But the embarrassment was covered over by the uber-progressive council. The boycott would have hurt ‘the little people’.

….City officials scrambled the last two weeks to nail down how such a boycott would work in practice, while pro-choice advocates raised concerns that the boycott would have a trickle-down effect that would ultimately punish the people most impacted, as Willamette Week reported. The editorial board of the Oregonian/OregonLive lambasted the city for “pointless preening,” focusing resources on a problem 2,000 miles away instead of the multitude of crises the city faces.

Sounds like the council unwittingly admitted that conservative infrastructure and economic production in Texas benefits the “little people” more than they typically care to admit.

They can always ask Texans to vote with their feet to Portland, but I think they will be embarrassed by the lack of takers.

“Dang it all” said MILLIONS of Texans after hearing no boycott by Portlanders!!

Seriously? They plan to donate to Planned Parenthood, an organization founded by the notorious racist Margaret Sanger with the express purpose of eradicating “inferior populations” (read: blacks) and that maintains the mission of genociding black babies even today?

    Disparate impact?

Plus the 800-lb. gorilla in the room — your leadership crisis.

I would be happy to drive across the country to pick up all those guns running loose on the streets of Portland committing violent acts of their own volition. I’ll bring them home and punish them with a long stay in my safe. They won’t be able to get out and commit those heinous acts anymore.

Progressives don’t deal well with reality.

As businesses flee to red states those feel good boycotts will become more absurd and painful.

Similarly if you require your plumber or roofer to belong to your political cult, you better be prepared to get wet.

The planned parent/hood abortion chamber act.

That said, there is no mystery in sex and conception. Couples have four choices and still six weeks. Doctors have taken an oath to help mother and child.

Sadly n.n they really don’t take that oath anymore. I helped a friend typing up her masters thesis on the Hippocratic Oath and physicians. The version currently in use is not an oath. The current wording is a pledge not an oath. It is considerably watered down and most medical schools do not ask their graduates to abide by it.

Those 4 people in Texas who give a da** about anything having to do with Portland will be very sad about this.

Dagnabit! You have to virtue signal somehow, and if you can’t boycott Texas then you may as well give a couple of hundred thousand dollars to Planned Parenthood.

The city council has one member with something resembling common sense. How did that happen? I would have expected him to have been canceled into oblivion long ago.

Frankly, if I’m a Portland voter, I’m pissed at the council for diverting that $200K to charity virtue signaling instead using it to address some of the other pressing issues facing the city.

But virtue signals aren’t expected to show actual results, that’s why progressives love them.

“But virtue signals aren’t expected to show actual results, that’s why progressives love them.”

So true. Progressive social activism is about doing just enough that the progressive feels good, but not so much that the problem goes away. If the problem is solved, then there’s nothing for the progressive to feel good about helping to fix.

I forget which radio commenter made the statement years ago, but liberalism really is a mental disease.

No, please, keep your little skateboard-wielding Marxist twats all to yourself.

If they bring those skateboards down here and start assaulting people, rest-assured they’ll be shot in the street like the scum that they are.

When Oregon Live, a paper known for actively covering up a former mayor boinking the 14 yo babysitter, is against you and the whole idea, it might be time to grab a hold of that rope and drag your sorry ass back to reality.

Wheeler is now basically a Joe Biden who can find his way home, and little more.

There is no “planning” in planed parenthood. It’s for people who failed to plan and then want to abort their child they failed to plan for.

I’d consider paying them to keep their disgusting Antifa-licking selves permanently away from my state forever. Here’s $20. Don’t even look at us from up there.

Wheeler is a child in a man’s body.
