Sarah Palin Reportedly Considering 2022 Senate Run in Alaska

Former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is apparently considering a run for U.S. Senate in Alaska against incumbent Lisa Murkowski.

Palin is still a popular figure among conservatives, but if this happens, it will trigger an avalanche of hate from the left not seen in years.

Anyone who remembers the 2008 election knows that the left’s reaction to Palin offered a preview of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Jon Levine reports at the New York Post:

Sarah Palin teases 2022 Senate run in Alaska

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said she may yet jump back into politics, teasing the possibility of a Senate run in 2022 against incumbent Lisa Murkowski.

“If God wants me to do it I will,” Palin told an enthusiastic audience during a discussion last week with New Apostolic Reformation leader Ché Ahn, Right Wing Watch reported.

“I would say you guys better be there for me this time, because a lot of people were not there for me last time,” she added, chiding the conservative Christian audience for what she said was their insufficient support during her 2008 vice presidential campaign with Sen. John McCain.

During the run, Palin was ruthlessly mocked as an outside-the-beltway lightweight who didn’t have the clout to potentially step into the top job. A withering “Saturday Night Live” portrayal by Tina Fey follows her to this day.

Palin said she was keeping an eye on the race, noting dismissively that there was already a “female Republican” who had jumped into the contest but that Palin had “never heard of her.”

This isn’t the first time that Palin teased the idea. She tweeted this in 2018:

The tricky thing here is that the Republican party of Alaska has already endorsed Kelly Tshibaka, who is currently running against Murkowski.

The Anchorage Daily News reported last month:

Alaska Republican Party leaders endorse Tshibaka in U.S. Senate race

The Alaska Republican State Central Committee on Saturday endorsed Kelly Tshibaka in the 2022 race for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Lisa Murkowski.

The committee approved Tshibaka’s endorsement in a 58-17 vote during a meeting in Fairbanks.

In a statement, Tshibaka said she will uphold conservative ideals and be a senator who Alaskans “can depend to make every decision based on what is best for our great state.”

Tshibaka announced on March 29 that she would run for the Senate seat held by Murkowski, who has been in office since 2002 and is widely viewed as a moderate. Two weeks earlier, the Republican State Central Committee voted 53-17 to censure Murkowski, citing her vote to impeach former President Donald Trump and other votes that have broken with GOP leadership. Alaska Republican Party leaders said at the time that they would recruit someone to run against her.

I’d love to see Palin run for something, or get an appointment from the next Republican administration. I still maintain that as a former mayor and governor, she was more qualified to be president in 2008 than Obama, Biden, or even McCain.

I think I will move to Alaska just so I can vote for her.

I would as well, but sure my aunt there will.

” it will trigger an avalanche of hate from the left not seen in years ”
Hard to beat a impeachment on a guy who has left office but do agree they will try.

“’I would say you guys better be there for me this time, because a lot of people were not there for me last time,’ she added, chiding the conservative Christian audience for what she said was their insufficient support during her 2008 vice presidential campaign with Sen. John McCain.”

An edited video is available. It sounded to me that she was chiding Republican leadership, not the “conservative Christian audience.”

Using quotes and video edits from Right Wing Watch filtered through other media is not a good way to get to the truth.

    She’s not wrong on that.

If we’ve learned anything by now, Palin was chosen to be a good ‘pick’, but also to be destroyed after she was chosen. Typical GOP backstabbing.

    She’d be a great Senator.

Yeah… after her own running mate threw her under the bus, there didn’t seem to be any more point in voting for him, and he just took her down with the ship.

“During the run, Palin was ruthlessly mocked as an outside-the-beltway lightweight who didn’t have the clout to potentially step into the top job.”

But a brain-damaged lightweight is fine stepping into the top job as long as he comes from inside the beltway. And an even lighter weight who slept her way into her job and wasn’t from inside the beltway either is fine for the #2 position “because she black.”

Make up your minds progressives. If you can find them anymore.

She lost me when she quit the Governorship

    educate yourself. if possible.

Milhouse in reply to gonzotx. | August 1, 2021 at 3:24 pm

    She had little choice.

    1. Her staff were going bankrupt from the legal costs, for which they were not allowed to accept any help.

    2. If she’d stayed on she’d have had no time to be governor. All her time would have been occupied defending the steady stream of frivolous charges against her, which would have multiplied every day.

I wish she could have stayed on, but it wouldn’t have been fair to her staff, it wouldn’t have been fair to the state, and it wouldn’t have been fair to her family.

Absolutely. The Governorship of Alaska had the absolute stupidest setup for ethics charges that let the Left file *for free* an endless series of suits against the Governor that she had to defend with *personal* funds. As I recall, one of the bogus flood of charges was filed in the name of somebody who did not even know about ‘their’ suit.

Milhouse in reply to georgfelis. | August 1, 2021 at 8:25 pm

What was worse, and what made her finally resign, is that they were also filing these charges against her staff. Anyone working for her was hit with fake ethics charges, which they had to defend, and they were not allowed to accept donations to help them with the cost.

Who downvoted this great comment from Milhouse explaining how Palin was forced out of the governor’s office? marky mark and zachfake?

Run don’t run as long as the RINOs are shaking.

I like Sarah, but Kelly is the endorsed R candidate. No splinter candidates. We need to get rid of Lisa M. She is a total loser.

    Milhouse in reply to r2468. | August 1, 2021 at 3:25 pm

She should definitely discuss it with Ms Tshibaka before making any decision.

Absolutely. If done correctly, with care and politeness, a campaign primary can bring out both of their good points while focusing on Murky’s failures in a way that most Alaska voters would never notice during a typical primary campaign.

Then again, the Left (and Murky) will attempt their best to turn this into a poo-flinging match.

      The_Mew_Cat in reply to Milhouse. | August 3, 2021 at 9:59 am

It is a top 4 ranked choice election. If both Palin and Tshibaka make it to the final 4, they should cross endorse so that each one is their voter’s second choice.

I still maintain that as a former mayor and governor, she was more qualified to be president in 2008 than Obama, Biden, or even McCain.

Absolutely. In 2008 I did not vote for McCain. I voted for Palin, and unfortunately that meant my vote had to count for the deadweight dragging her down too. The fact that the result was not a landslide is all due to Palin.

Andy in reply to Milhouse. | August 1, 2021 at 3:27 pm

She’s the only positive thing I have to say about John McCain’s political career.

A brilliant pick, ruined by the McCain campaign as they tried to mould her to look like McCain’s shadow. To this day, I’m positive that certain important members of his campaign were fighting like rabid weasels to ruin her career out of spite because their own suggestions for a ‘proper’ running mate had been spurned.

How about its end? At the time, nothing was more positive than that.

And the only reason I held my nose and voted for him, even though I was an alternate to the GOP convention that nominated him. Blech.

She sold me with her nomination acceptance speech, in which she said she would never forsake our special children–one of whom was my son, standing there with me.

Lucifer Morningstar | August 1, 2021 at 3:26 pm

And Alaska will end up with a three way competition between Murkowski, Tshibaka, and Palin and with predictable results the split will go to Murkowski for another disastrous term. Guranteed.

Lucifer Morningstar | August 1, 2021 at 3:28 pm

During the run, Palin was ruthlessly mocked as an outside-the-beltway lightweight who didn’t have the clout to potentially step into the top job.

And look at what we eventually got. A mentally deficient president and a psychopathic whore with no experience whatsoever in the White House.

Palin was targeted because she was popular with the base.

Which reminds me, does Mike Pence REALLY believe he can win even dog catcher?

He needs to just get his paycheck and retire

Save it until 2024, Sarah. Trump/Palin.

I am not yet convinced that Trump will run in 2024.

If he does then at this point DeSantis appears to be a better choice.

    A lot will change.

If Palin polls better in 2022 then the R’s need to figure out how to have only one primary challenger.

If Murkowski lost will she then run again in the general as a write in?

Marie Bethamn | August 2, 2021 at 12:15 am

President Trump has already endorsed Tshibaka – I don’t believe he would withdraw that endorsement without good cause. His loyalty is one of his strongest virtues (ironically it is also his Achilles heel). Sarah knows this and won’t cross him to split the primary ticket.
Murkowski has burned a lot of bridges with Alaskans since her write-in ploy and I doubt she would be able to pull it off again.

Here is my perspective on why she shouldn’t

1. History as a war monger

2. History as a torture apologist (“terrorists baptism”)

3. History as an uncritical national security state shill

4. Backs hunting journalists (Julian Assange) who offend the orthodoxies of the Democrat Party (look up her reaction to WikiLeaks)

5. Nobody wants or need a return to the Bush era, in addition to all of the horrible policy failures and creation and rise of the national security state and the imperial wars there is a simple reality that mass immigration turns states blue.

6. Super failure to influence in favor of Trump in the 2016 primary (remember Iowa which was supposed to be a place she could influence?)

7. Her history involves resigning state elected office (governor of Alaska)

8. She hasn’t run for anything in over ten years which is great reason to doubt she has any more expertise in it than I have.

9. There are people without the taint of being a former war monger, torture shill, journalist hunter among other flaws with a vastly superior chance of unseating Murkowski.

Sarah Palin was an unmitigated disaster of a Governor.
In her abbreviated tenure, she DOUBLED the Alaska State budget by working with the Democrat controlled Legislature, She promoted and signed Legislation that nearly shutdown North Slope oil exploration permanently. (She hates the oil companies). She also endorsed an Independent Democrat for Governor over her own Conservative Lt. Governor. I could go on all day. Sarah Palin is not what you think she is. Besides, we already have a True Conservative named Kelly Tshibaka running against the RINO Murkowski. Palin running would insure Murkowski’s re-election.
