U.S. Women’s Soccer Takes a Protest Knee, Gets Trounced by Sweden

U.S. Women’s Soccer Takes a Protest Knee, Gets Trounced by Sweden

Maybe they should pay more attention to the game instead of protesting.

The U.S. women’s soccer team went into the Olympics as the favorite. They’ve been untouchable for a long time with a 44 game winning streak.

The ladies ramped up their protesting against the U.S. and begging for money. The left thrust the players into the spotlight, especially Megan Rapinoe. She has since become a spokesperson for Subway and a face of Victoria’s Secret.

Athletes can protest before games, but social media teams cannot show videos or pictures of teams or athletes taking a knee.

The U.S. women’s soccer team knelt for the national anthem before their game against Sweden, their first Olympic match:

At the USA-Sweden game in an empty Tokyo Stadium, at the sound of the referee’s whistle, all 11 starters from both teams, plus the ref, dropped to one knee. They stayed there for about 10 seconds with pregame music still playing in the background. They then rose, and a short in-stadium countdown to kickoff commenced.

Sweden joined the American women: “For us it really feels right to stand up for human rights. It was a communication with the U.S. team before, so for us it feels good to do that and it is something we stand for as a team.”

So Sweden did it, too, but the American women have been kneeling and complaining since 2017. Maybe they should pay more attention to their actual game:

The United States came out stale, with its best chance of the opening half coming in the final moments when Rose Lavelle’s shot hit the post. Coach Vlatko Andonovski made changes for the second half, subbing in Carli Lloyd for Alex Morgan and Julie Ertz for Sam Mewis.

But Blackstenius scored again in the 54th minute, beating goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher, as the Americans continued to struggle. Lina Hurtig then scored in the 72nd.

The loss was the first for the United States under Andonovski, who took over when former coach Jill Ellis stepped down following the team’s World Cup victory in France.

Nope. I did my best, but I am unable to give a rip about the Olympics. Or the pampered crybabies on the US women’s soccer team.

The 1st time in my long life that I have rooted against an American team, sad.

Since these “ladies” are so anti-America, I’m actually very pro-American when I cheer on their opponents (which I do),

Being regarded as excellent isn’t excellence. Regarding yourself as excellent isn’t excellence. A long string of victory isn’t excellence.

Excellence is the willingness to continue to perform all the pain in ass training, all the brutal practices that made victory possible and the awareness that the margin of your victories doesn’t matter in today’s match.

The only thing that matters is whether you have done everything to sustain the high level of past performance. These ladies clearly did not.

The deliberately and effectively achieved their goals. First by kneeling, they insulted the United States. Second by losing, they guaranteed that they would not do anything as icky as winning a medal for the United States.

And if there is any drop off in donations to the Olympics, they will blame American sexists.

I’m guessing the Swedish team comprises Swedish people. The US team comprises hyphen-Americans.

Modern day Dixie Chicks.

Except meaner and uglier.

No problemo. Next Olympics, the American Women’s Soccer Team will be composed entirely of “women,” and Rapinoe and her merry band of turf pirates won’t even be footnotes in history.

(Hey, Megan… one of those BLTs is toasted, the other one isn’t.)

I want to see the US win. That said, I also want to see the US girls’ kickball team get their woke assess kicked hard.

Boo Hoo! I really don’t feel like rooting for a bunch of overrated anti American dykes.

I’ll have to add this to my list of “there really is a God!” Top of the list for now.

Greg Woke-ovich once suffered infamous loss to Cal Tech while coaching Pomona-Pitzer men’s basketball team. CalTech was on a 99-game losing streak and would begin a new 310-game losing streak the very next game. That’s a 1-409 record spanning many years. And the Coach Wokester owns the ignominious distinction of owning that “1”.

Of course back then, Woke-ovich was a complete unknown and there was no such thing as wokeness it is only interesting in retrospect. He wasn’t tempting fate and daring God to humiliate him.

The U.S. women’s soccer team knelt for the national anthem before their game against Sweden, their first Olympic match:

No, they didn’t. If you read the article you will see that they couldn’t have, because national anthems are not played before games in the Olympics. All the players, and the referee, knelt for about 10 seconds, during “pregame music”, which is not either side’s national anthem.

Anthems are played during the award ceremonies, and no protests are allowed.

Milhouse is correct when it comes to no anthems being played prior to an Olympic event. Whether or not we’re going to see protests at awards ceremonies is yet to be seen.

Brave Sir Robbin in reply to p. | July 21, 2021 at 7:00 pm

It was not the anthem, but it was a deliberate protest. So to avoid the ban of protesting at medal ceremony they may never get to, they protested in advance. Same gesture and the same intent. We have wasted enough electrons on these worthless, self-righteous, privileged …. like I said, enough electrons wasted.

Not all .I saw two brave A

    Just two

Here is the video of them kneeling with three of them standing with their hands over their hearts.

Either you are wrong or that is not a video of the Olympic game.

The block quote bug bit again. Consider yourself up-ticked.

Let’s get this straight: By kneeling the USWNT made sure they’d get on the news. However, it will have to be mentioned they lost, badly.

Got it.

2smartforlibs | July 21, 2021 at 6:00 pm

As I have said many many times. Woke doesn’t win games. draw customers or converts.

Hold your heads up, Girls, and be proud. You EARNED the loss. As long as you make political statements on the sports field, may you enjoy many more.

Don’t stop now. You’re off to a great start. (snicker)
.

Take a knee, beg, good girl, boy, whatever.

The Swedish women don’t get kudos from me either. By supporting the kneeling, they forfeit my support. Sure they don’t care, so we’re all happy.

I never liked the playing style of the US women’s team. If I wanted to see soccer with a lot of strength, the US men’s team is much better and more fun to watch. The women in prior years seemed to rely mostly on overpowering smaller and less muscular foreign women. If this doesn’t work anymore, that’s fine with me.

the_last_l3oyscout | July 21, 2021 at 6:48 pm

The linked article specifically states, “All 18 USWNT players stood for the anthem on Wednesday.” These women are generally horrible people, but we don’t have to lie about them to support this.

International soccer, mainly EPL, is one of the few sports that I still watch. Initially, their 10 second or so taking the knee was tied to BLM and Marxism. When they found this out, they removed any mention of BLM and their signage from most of the advertisements. I would still see them pop up occasionally. They take a knee against racism, which I think we can all get behind. This has been going on in soccer for a year now and it is much more palatable that what you get from the MLB/NBA/NFL/NHL organizations in the US.

This looks like I’m making a black power fist, but it’s merely in support of USA Boxing.
My hammer and sickle pin celebrates Mike Rowe’s “Works” movement.
This angular Su+Asti+Ka tattoo on my arm is Sanskrit for “that which is good.”
That skull and crossbones on my ship is in honor of my grandfather, our village’s mortician.
And the flaming bottle in my hand just shows how much I want to bring light to the world.
    Any other stupid questions?

      the_last_l3oyscout in reply to henrybowman. | July 21, 2021 at 8:59 pm

Like I said, the EPL was quick to distance themselves from the Marxists, while our women’s team and professional sports teams embrace them. Nothing you said had anything to do with my post. Any other strawmen?

        henrybowman in reply to the_last_l3oyscout. | July 22, 2021 at 1:15 am

        Right.
“This knee protests nonspecific racism… not systemic white American racism.”
“This middle finger signifies ‘we’re number one’… not what everybody looking at us assumes it means.”
We all know what the knee really means.
It means that ain’t rain runnin’ down my back.

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | July 21, 2021 at 7:02 pm

And we care….why?

Whether they kneel for the national anthem, or for pre-game music, or for the hell of it, who gives a flying fuck about these women?

They do not represent the United States. They represent themselves. Now that they have had a major loss, they no longer represent anyone. Buh bye.

As for the Swedish women, it won’t be long before they no longer have a team. 85% of rapes in Sweden are committed by Mudslime men born in Mudslime countries. Their teams won’t be able to protest anyone. Their Muslim masters will execute them.

    the_last_l3oyscout in reply to AF_Chief_Master_Sgt. | July 21, 2021 at 9:04 pm

If you don’t care if they kneel for the national anthem, why read the article? Why respond to comments? I was merely pointing out that there were errors in the article and trying to give a background on the kneeling for a few seconds before the game in international soccer. Not sure what Sweden had to do with anything.

      AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to the_last_l3oyscout. | July 22, 2021 at 5:13 pm

      Hey dicktard. I read. OK?

Unlike you I don’t live in an echo chamber where I smell my own farts and eat my own shit.

I don’t care about them. That doesn’t mean I don’t READ and comment about them.

theduchessofkitty | July 21, 2021 at 7:10 pm

I haven’t wished our nation to lose in the Olympics before. This year, I don’t care if Team USA gets a single bronze medal.

Heja Sverige!

I want to see the US win. That said, I also want to see the US girls’ kickball team get their woke assess kicked hard.

Seems to me actually playing the game of soccer hasn’t been the point of the US Women’s Soccer Team for quite some time.

Bring back the glory days like the women’s teams the Soviets used to field. Strong women.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | July 21, 2021 at 8:42 pm

especially Megan Rapinoe. She has since become a spokesperson for Subway and a face of Victoria’s Secret.

Victoria’s Secret? Really? LOL. That’s a way to keep their merchandise a real secret.

I just hope that this is the last I ever hear of US soccer. Nobody cares about any US soccer team – least of all a women’s team.

These chicks should skip the knees and just do full faceplants next time. Dirtbags.

Comanche Voter | July 21, 2021 at 9:36 pm

Jeez I missed the game on TV–had to wash my pinto pony instead. Used to enjoy watching the women’s team but when it became all protest all the time all stars, I’ve got better things to do.

I love to remind everyone of this. I don’t follow soccer ’cause it’s mind numbingly boring and even more so the more woke it gets.

https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/a-dallas-fc-under-15-boys-squad-beat-the-u-s-womens-national-team-in-a-scrimmage

“In preparation for two upcoming friendlies against Russia, the U.S. women’s national team played the FC Dallas U-15 boys academy team on Sunday and fell 5-2, according to FC Dallas’ official website…”

Rapinoe demands to be paid the same as men playing professional soccer. What a freaking idiot. She doesn’t have a clue as to what her job is. It isn’t to score points against other women. It’s to fill stadiums. It’s to increase concession sales in those stadiums. It’s to sell sports swag. It’s to increase ratings so the team owners can demand higher prices from would-be advertisers.

In other words, Rapinoe is even more economically illiterate than AOC, something I never thought possible.

She and the USNWT can’t beat a bunch of 14 y.o. boys, or even younger because it’s the under 15 team. They kicked the women’s asses. More people would pay to watch those teen aged boys play because it’s apparently better soccer than what you can expect out of the women.

Full disclosure: when I played rugby at 15 years of age I recall the first time we went to the Polo Grounds in SF to play. We came out of the locker room and the first thing we saw were the hugest men we had ever seen in our lives. We turned to our coach and asked, “We’re not playing them are we?” No, it turns out the Chicago Bears had a rugby team in the off season at least back then. And they were in town to play other men their own size. We weren’t in their league. So we weren’t playing them.

But I can absolutely guarantee we, too, could have destroyed a women’s rugby team. When I was 15 I was 5’7″ and at 180 pounds one of the smaller guys on the team. And no, I wasn’t fat. I had a 44″ chest and a 32″ waist. You ever try to buy a suit off the rack with a 12″ drop? And I was one of the smallest guys on the team.

I still can’t figure out why anyone would have paid to see us play rugby when we couldn’t compete with the large, fully grown men. But if we could beat any women’s team, why should Rapinoe expect a large paycheck?

In the next couple of years, I hope these woke chicks get replaced on the team by a bunch of 6″2″ 270-pound “trans-women.”

Here is a video of the future women’s soccer team presenting medals to the men’s team:

It must be hell knowing that your career is totally at the mercy of the first woman to walk through your locker room door with wedding tackle.

There’s a women’s soccer team? And their husbands allow them to play?

All of those blonde women (birthing people), how disgusting.

There are Olympic games? Who knew?

Not exactly good sportsmanship. Rich brats with time to insult their potential support base.

FWIW, football (soccer) teams in England, France, Germany, and Italy (other places too, I think) have been taking a knee at the beginning of games all last season. While this started as BLM support — something that missed the mark — it quickly was rebranded as a gesture against racism in the sport.

That’s much needed: there has been racist abuse against many professional footballers, the latest example of which was when three England players, all blacks, missed penalty shots in the Euro championships. Some of the abuse on social media and elsewhere was stunning — we would never imagine it in the U.S. It is still in some places on par with the treatment Jackie Robinson endured when he first joined the Dodgers. It gets worse when you move into some of the Eastern European countries, I’m sorry to say (I’m a Pole).

(Oh, and don’t give me a ration of $#%& about calling the sport “football,” as it existed before the American version, for which the inventors have declared themselves “World Champions,” and it is a sport in which the ball is addressed largely by the foot.)

Black players in Europe still get bananas thrown at them, and some get monkey chants from the crowd. Imagine that aimed at a Sammy Sosa, or a Barry Bonds, or Josh Bell. So there is definitely a need to fight racism in world football.

That said, the USWNT has mucked up that anti-racism message because for American athletes to take a knee means something quite different to U.S. viewers. It’s associated with the whole Colin Kaepernick protest and its outgrowth. When we see them kneel, we’re processing it in a different context, as that they are protesting the nation they purportedly represent. And the USWNT players have brought this on themselves with their petulance over the contract they negotiated and agreed to, and, in particular, with the leftist virtue-signaling of Ms. Rapinoe.

The scorn they get here is understandable and in some ways deserved.

Okay, there are so many soccer haters on this thread, I’ve noticed. That’s fine, if you don’t enjoy the sport, don’t watch it. But there are billions of fans around the world; let them enjoy the things they like while you enjoy the things you like. De gustibus non disputandum est.

I’m curious, though: how do you know that a sport is “boring” if you don’t watch it? Asking for a friend.

Was it 15 men pretending to be women on the soccer team?
