Texas Democrats Who Fled the State Scorched for Asking for Care Packages

Texas Democrats Who Fled the State Scorched for Asking for Care Packages

“How about instead we donate these things to people who are actually in need — anyone know a good charity in Dallas?”

The Texas Democrats who flew on a private plane without masks to Washington, D.C., and hopped on chartered buses to avoid their responsibility are begging for care packages.

You know, because they’re equivalent to the troops or people in actual need of food and basic needs.

So tone-deaf.

These people have been schmoozing with Senate leaders and Vice President Kamala Harris instead of tackling two bills regarding voting requirements. House Bill 3 would make it harder to cheat, but it cannot leave the house because the chamber does not have the two-thirds quorum it needs to vote on it.

Democrat Texas State Rep. Armando Walle said the Democrats in D.C. will cost around $1.5 million. The private planes alone cost $100,000.

They claim no one has used taxpayer money, but how did the House Democratic Caucus and other Democratic caucuses get that money?

From the taxpayer in some form! So, yes, they are using taxpayer money to fund their stunt.

Also, six of them tested positive for COVID-19.

Now they want you to send them free stuff.

Oh here’s thought. Maybe they should just go home and then they won’t need a care package.

Note: six of them have said they tested positive for covid, then they said they wouldn’t count any more…

Symptomatic, then tested, per CDC guidelines.

      Voyager in reply to n.n. | July 26, 2021 at 4:38 pm

I think you missed what I was saying. After the six were reported as having it, the WH reported they would stop telling anyone if anyone else came up positive.

So six, are the ones we know about. We don’t have any real count beyond that.

henrybowman in reply to Voyager. | July 30, 2021 at 10:01 pm

Actually, I think they said they “couldn’t count any higher.”

A fool and his money are soon parted.

“I gotta dollar but you have to be quick”

.

They claim no one has used taxpayer money, but how did the House Democratic Caucus and other Democratic caucuses get that money?

From the taxpayer in some form! So, yes, they are using taxpayer money to fund their stunt.

How do you get to that conclusion? What taxpayer money do you think they have access to? The Democrat Party, like the Republican Party, exists on donations, not on the taxpayer.

I gather they’re still getting their pay and per diem for the special session they’re skipping out on.

That needs to be fixed in either the next special session or a ballot item.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to Voyager. | July 26, 2021 at 4:34 pm

I understand that they are in fact getting their pay and I believe $231 a day per diem. Also, they are staying in hotels. I rather suspect someone else is paying for the hotels . . . and room service.

Milhouse in reply to Voyager. | July 26, 2021 at 4:49 pm

They’re getting their pay, which they’re still earning because they’re doing their constituency work. I doubt they’re getting a per diem for being in Austin for the special session, since they’re not.

The point is that their expenses are not being paid for by the taxpayer. They’re being paid by various Democrats, out of the same source that they use for all political spending, i.e. donations.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | July 26, 2021 at 5:03 pm

Well, apparently I was mistaken about the per diem. The Texas constitution, article 3 §ion; 24, says “Each member shall also receive a per diem set by the Texas Ethics Commission for each day during each Regular and Special Session of the Legislature.” It doesn’t say that they have to be in Austin to collect it. That’s an oversight that should be corrected by amendment as soon as possible. Or maybe the Ethics Commission can do it, by setting the per diem at $221 if a member is in Austin and $0 if he is not. Since the whole purpose of the per diem is to pay for the expenses of being in Austin rather than at home, it makes no sense to pay it if the member is not there and thus not incurring those expenses. (It also makes no sense if the member lives in Austin and drives home every night, but perhaps those responsible for this provision felt it would be unfair to discriminate against the Austin members.)

Or maybe the Ethics Commission can do it, by setting the per diem at $221 if a member is in Austin and $0 if he is not.

That might require a change to the Texas Constitution, which would require a quorum. But we will see.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | July 26, 2021 at 10:53 pm

A constitutional amendment requires much more than a quorum! I’m not sure whether Texas amends its constitution by referendum, but I’m sure it isn’t by a simple legislative vote!

But I’m suggesting that it might not take anything more than a decision by the Ethics Commission to set two rates, one for when members are in Austin and one for when they are elsewhere. And to set the second rate at $0. I don’t see anything in the constitution to prevent that.

          “Well, apparently I was mistaken…”

For the millionth time. And it’s always trying to make some excuse for the left or the corrupt government.

**** off, you ****ing liar. You have never once contributed anything useful or positive to this forum. Your entire existence is an exercise in miserable hatred.

geronl in reply to Milhouse. | July 26, 2021 at 10:58 pm

They are not doing their work. Their work does not take place in DC

Milhouse in reply to geronl. | July 27, 2021 at 2:39 am

Their work takes place wherever they decide it does. For most of their term the legislature isn’t even in session, and their work is in their district, or representing its people’s interests elsewhere, including DC.

But during a session they have a duty not to absent themselves from the house without its leave, which it has not given them. And now the house has called them, so they have a positive duty to return. Of course that duty can’t be enforced until they’re back in the state’s jurisdiction, but they’re still in violation of it.

artichoke in reply to Milhouse. | July 27, 2021 at 7:36 am

Their constituents are in the state of Texas. It’s a stretch to say they’re doing their constituency work by spending a long time in DC.

Ironclaw in reply to Milhouse. | July 26, 2021 at 3:40 pm

These are not simply members of the party, they are members of the State legislature.

Milhouse in reply to Ironclaw. | July 26, 2021 at 4:51 pm

So? The point is that the Democrat Party is paying their expenses, and its money does not come from the taxpayer.

Ironclaw in reply to Milhouse. | July 26, 2021 at 11:16 pm

They’re democrats, they never do anything honest.

Evil Otto in reply to Milhouse. | July 27, 2021 at 8:08 am

You, 20 minutes later: “Well, apparently I was mistaken about the per diem.”

Why not do your research FIRST, Milhouse, before you start making claims? Taxpayers are absolutely on the hook for this.

rscalzo in reply to Milhouse. | July 27, 2021 at 4:22 pm

Something you are assuming. I have no doubt some state expenses are still happening during this time period.

Texas legislators receive a per diem rate of $221 / day.

That comes from the taxpayers, sir.

The Dems (and Republicans but not so much) get laundered taxpayer money via the teacher’s unions and other corrupt institutions. Donations are not necessary “clean.”

Go back and face the music, communists.

UserP in reply to Ironclaw. | July 27, 2021 at 1:08 pm

When they go back they won’t face the music. Instead they will play music for them while they treat them to a parade. They be hero’s. They will have their own state holiday. Forget the people who stayed and fought at the Alamo—-instead remember the one’s who ran away.

The Dems are AWOL in DC voluntarily. I hope they stay in DC as they are in their ideological home now with other anti-Americans.

If they get hungry, they should contact the food service that took such good care of the Michigan National Guard as they are on the same team.

Not surprising. After the initial media gushing the Texas Communists who fled have become like unwanted house guests (the PR fiasco with several of them getting the Wuflu didn’t help).

If Abbott and the Texas Republicans are smart (an iffy proposition) they should call another special session once this one runs out. This new special session should add popular measures like border security and crime-fighting to the ballot integrity bill already on the schedule.

Abbott announced as soon as they left that if they didn’t come back before the special session expires he’d immediately call another one.

And they have to return before the legislature’s budget runs out, or their pay will dry up.

I remember that as well, but sometimes the GOP make a bold-sounding promise like that one and fails to follow through.

In a second special session I would suggest that the Texas GOP add a second bill dealing with border security. Abbott has already started arresting illegals who cross the border, so a border security bill could request more manpower and/or funds to keep it up. Border security is popular in Texas – it is one of the reasons Trump did so well in some counties along the US-Mexico border.

I was thinking about sending them doggie bags
y’know the ones y’ have to use for used food products

Bubble envelope, sealed top and bottom, filled from a honey wagon. It would be really funny when they opened it.

I’m not embarrassed to admit I want to send a care package. Just need to finish putting together a packing list.

1) Diaper wipes
2) industrial grade Kleenex
3) Senna glycoside
4) Bail Bondsman business card

Who cares about the bloody care package … what it costs or what’s in it. If that was all there was to it it’d be laughable. We should focus on their deplorable conduct of shirking their responsibility as an elected official. Each one of them should be recalled and replaced with someone with the guts and morality to do they’re friggin’ job.

amatuerwrangler | July 26, 2021 at 7:28 pm

I seem to recall people like them bloviating about democracy, and all that stuff. So now, because of democracy, they find themselves in a legislative minority and unable to countenance the majority getting its way (the basic concept of democracy: greatest good for the greatest number), they quickly abandon the concept of democracy and throw a monkey-wrench into the gears.

I will anxiously await their explanation of why I am wrong.

Poor things are roughing it at a luxury hotel after their horrible private plane trip to the richest city of looters on Earth….

henrybowman | July 27, 2021 at 1:19 am

“we’re collecting Dr. Pepper, salsa, hard candy, hairspray, travel toiletries, hand sanitizers, sewing kits, first aid, and/ or $ to pay shipping.”

Why not just ask people to donate “vegan meat substitutes, fruits, oats, soy products, etc. – anything to help us eat”?

    pilgrim1949 in reply to henrybowman. | July 27, 2021 at 10:23 am

I was more thinking of a totally empty box.

Emblematic of their totally empty heads and sense of professional duties.

Empty to signify this exercise in “sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

Indeed, the whole stunt is Much Ado About Nothing.

They have a lot of Covid cases among them, five we’ve heard of and maybe more. Send them extra Covid vax shots!

What addresses are they recieving the packages? I will send each a steaming fresh 5lb bag of manure rigged with party poppers so that no one in the vicinity gets left out.

I have some used cat litter they could have…

Something you are assuming. I have no doubt some state expenses are still happening during this time period.

nordic_prince | July 27, 2021 at 6:40 pm

Bunch of grifters. If I were to send them anything, it’d be tar and feathers.

Oh gee…
And they are Bums, to boot.
