National Geographic Suggests July 4 Fireworks are Racist

Scientific evidence clearly indicates is that the once respected publication has devolved into woke-tastic banality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIvdcdogC6k#action=share

Legal Insurrection readers may remember that under President Donald Trump, the 2019 July 4th “Salute to America” included tanks, fighter jets..and an extravaganza of fireworks.

Good times….good times.

Now under an entirely different presidency, a leading “science” based publication suggested scientific data proves that ndependence Day fireworks are ‘racist.’

National Geographic has suggested that holiday fireworks are racist because the smoke pollution “disproportionately” hurts minorities — sparking a firestorm of criticism from readers.

The famed conservation institution tweeted out the assertion on the Fourth of July, based on a recent study assessing the impact of Independence Day fireworks on communities.

“Scientists found that vulnerable people and communities of color are disproportionately exposed to air pollution from firework celebrations,” the nonprofit wrote on Twitter above a photo of a lights display over North Hollywood, Calif.

The tweet included a link to an article the mag just published involving research using crowdsourcing data in California.

Claiming that crowdsourced information from the Deep Blue enclave provides any meaningful analysis is laughable on its face. What this evidence now clearly indicates is that the once-respected publication has devolved into woke-tastic banality.

Another piece of evidence confirming my assertion is National Geographic magazine’s editor Susan Goldberg. People recently mocked her online when she added ‘white, privileged, with much to learn’ to her email signature.

Goldberg added the words on a June 6 newsletter emailed to readers, which invited them to participate in the magazine’s Race Card Project, which sees those featured sum up their experience with race in six words.

‘These aren’t just binary conversations about Black and white people,’ reads Goldberg’s letter. ‘This “quilt,” as she describes it, pulls at all manner of cultural threads, from Latinos and Indigenous people to Asians and Iranians.’

‘So, what’s my race card?’ Goldberg continues. ‘This is a hard exercise, but reflecting on the difficult past year, on our fraught politics, and so many frank conversations I’ve had with friends and colleagues, for now I’ll leave it at this: “White, privileged, with much to learn.” ’

The newest woke offering by National Geographic about the fireworks has also led to extensive criticism and ridicule.

National Geographic’s tweet was met with swift criticism from Twitter users who branded it unnecessarily divisive and decried the outlet for putting a damper on the holiday.

‘It never ends with the ridiculous headlines about race. Give it a rest,’ one critic replied to National Geographic.

‘What happened to the old Nat Geo, where we talked about animals and how amazing they are?’ another added.

A third critic wrote: ‘Honestly, I am a scientist and this is beyond ridiculous.’

‘LET US ENJOY THE DAMN FIREWORKS,’ a fourth tweeted.

National Geographic’s tweet did achieve a good ratio, and comments continue to stream in as Americans return to social media from their July 4th celebrations.

While assessing these new data points, you should remember mega-corporation Disney owns National Geographic as of 2019:

National Geographic Partners is a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company (which owns 73% of shares) and the namesake non-profit scientific organization National Geographic Society (which owns 27%). The company oversees all commercial activities related to the Society, including magazine publications and television channels. The company’s board of managers is evenly divided between the Society and Disney.

Legal Insurrection readers will recall Disney was reportedly training its employees in Critical Race Theory. The training modules appeared to belittle their white employees as racist oppressors who have to make amends for the evil they inflicted on the world by being born white.

And while the training has since been retracted, the tweet is strongly indicative that the shame remains.

Not everything is racist, jack—es!

After more than 40 years as a subscriber to N.G. I ended my subscription last year, Smithsonian as well. I loved reading and taking my mind off of the current events of the day and getting lost in far away places. This is really sad.

I understand, I ended my subscription almost 15 years back because they were getting bad back then. A couple of years back I saw the cover story on “Gender,” with a young male human (can’t say man to that!) dressed up as a woman.

Wait, I thought this was a magazine reporting on geography, different lands, peoples, etc. I guess I’m a little too old. Unfortunately, it’s not just NG. I remember when the History Channel would show stories on….history. Hell, I remember when MTV played music. Now both are reality TV wastelands.

RIP National Geographic. You had a good run.

If the @ssh@t “journalists” responsible for this piece of cr@p article would get their heads out of their behinds and occasionally leave their gated communities and door-man guarded buildings to actually be IN low-income and “communities of of color” places they might (might) notice that fireworks are how the residents celebrate the 4th. It’s not white privileged overweight chattering classes going into poor neighborhoods to set off fireworks nor do the PoPo round up bus loads of poor people at gunpoint to go to commercial fireworks displays.

Reminds me of the joke NY Times headline “Killer asteroid to hit Sunday destroying all life on Earth. Women and minorities hardest hit.”

Variation: “Killer asteroid to hit Sunday destroying all life on Earth. tide Game Postponed” – ANY newspaper in Alabama.

I was a subscriber for years. The magazine has become increasingly woke and insufferable.

The day it was in the news about the editor showing her woke credentials, I determined I would immediately do what I’d been meaning to do for quite some time … I cancelled my subscription. I used to love receiving NatGeo every month. Those days are long gone. And I said bye-bye to another institution ruined by the left.

Remember when they routinely featured bare-breast African women?

Ah, yes – fireworks are racist. So are pails of water. And shoes with high heels. And LED computer monitors. And sand at the beach. And sunshine. And…

Oh, STFU already. No one’s buying it anymore.

And Lori Lightfoot is genuinely dumb. Honest to God dumb.

You forgot “black hole”, which according to a Cornell University professor, can be directly linked to “black racism”. Grammatically correct English and math should also be on the list. Not that there’s anything wrong with your list. It’s great and includes obviously “racist” things I never thought of.

I hope you told them why you canceled.

I canceled my subscription years ago…
That picture of the obese unhappy “woman”… she’s lucky her ancestors are who they were…

It looks like Disney has ruined Nat Geo.

Thumbs down by mistake (2nd time today – too close to the reply link on a phone)….

    Disney was merely the accelerant.

    Barry in reply to OldProf2. | July 7, 2021 at 1:15 am

NG was dead when Disney stepped in to bury it. It is seriously impossible to read anymore. It’s nothing more than outright marxist propaganda.

Should hold our next fireworks show outside natgeo’s hq. During their lunch hour the last day of work before the 4th.
I’m sure the sight of the flag would make them swoon.

Well hell, now we have to build our own Nat Geo? The list of captured and irredeemably corrupted institutions, organizations, corporations and universities is getting pretty damn long.

Maybe a left Twix/right Twix compromise via dropping the cultural strife at the National level in favor of a vigorous return of Federalism would be better?

The great sorting continues. People are voting with their feet and clustering in communities that reflect their own values.

Let Massachusetts be Massachusetts while letting Mississippi be Mississippi. A commitment by all sides to this course for cultural issues, within our constitutional system, might divert us from a more combustible resolution.

Funds stripped from NPR could be applied to this new, reality-based version of Nat Geo.

Never forget that the GOP refused to defund NPR and PBS when that drunk moron Boehner was Squeaker of the House.

      Never forget that.

John Banal of Ohio, Former Squeaker of the House. Worse than worthless.

Milhouse in reply to UJ. | July 7, 2021 at 1:40 am

How much do you think the federal budget gives NPR directly in the first place? It’s not that much. One way or another NPR ends up with a good deal of its budget coming from taxpayers, but most of it comes indirectly, from state and local governments, or from colleges that get government subsidies. Its direct federal grant, which is the only thing congress can cut, is only a small part of its budget, and it can probably do fine without it. Which is itself a great reason for cutting it.

Doctor-Elect Disco Stu_ in reply to Milhouse. | July 7, 2021 at 8:38 am

Just happened to look up recent IRS filings for inter-related organizations yesterday. Corp. for Public Broadcasting’s nearly-$500 million budget almost entirely funded by government grants. And then its nearly-$460 million grants paid out went to local affiliates plus ~$1.7 million to NPR.

NPR then also received about 1/2 of its ~$280 million total revenue from “program services” – most of which, of course, is paid by local affiliates.

Our local affiliate reported $6.5 million Total Revenue, of which 38% was from direct government grants.

So don’t have to drill down too deeply to see the extent of governments’ money-laundering schemes to finance progressive-propaganda broadcast outlets.

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to Milhouse. | July 7, 2021 at 9:05 am

It doesn’t matter. They should get NOTHING. Amtrak should get NOTHING. National Endowment for the Arts should get NOTHING.

Doctor-Elect Disco Stu_ in reply to The Friendly Grizzly. | July 7, 2021 at 9:19 am

The U.S. Postal Service has now “earned” its inclusion in your list, also.

I believe national mail service is a permitted function of the federal government – but not mandated. The endless-deficit USPS monopoly has outlived its proper role.

Declining services plus bloated costs subsidized by taxpayers? No thanks. I have no doubt UPS or Fedex – or even Amazon now, possibly – is capable of providing better local mail delivery at lower (not subsidized) costs.

JusticeDelivered in reply to The Friendly Grizzly. | July 7, 2021 at 3:48 pm

Not Amazon, they need their wings clipped.

National Georacist

National Geographic has been Woke for decades. In the 70s and 80s they gushed with praise for anything the Soviet Union did. Any feature about some obscure Peoples Democratic Republic read like it was written by that country’s Ministry of Truth.

When they left me, I left them ages ago .

If National Geographic is still a not-for-profit educational entity, doesn’t their political advocacy invalidate their tax exempt status ?

Milhouse in reply to Sisu. | July 7, 2021 at 1:43 am

No, it doesn’t. Political advocacy means urging people to vote either for or against some candidate, and they don’t do that. Supporting or opposing specific policies is not political advocacy, and there’s no reason tax exempt entities shouldn’t do that.

I guess all the smoke from last years arson and looting was acceptable because it was for the advancement of the repressed class

But showing the breasts and genitalia of men and women ….only of dark skin…is not.

Here’s another article by Jonathan Turley responding to another incredibly absurd declaration that French Cuisine is racist.

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/french-cuisine-gateway-food-white-dominance

The hysterics are completely out of control. It’s time to start slapping heads and putting these people in strait jackets. They are changing my mind about sending people to Mars.

We really need to try a new approach with these losers; encourage and promote suicide.

Remind them the Chinese people invented fireworks.
Can’t speak out against “the big guy”

The Friendly Grizzly | July 7, 2021 at 9:09 am

Everything is being declared racist. I may as well start using words like oriental and negro again.

Does anyone know where I can buy a lawn jockey?

The Lancet; the New England Journal of Medicine; Scientific American; National Geographic, etc., etc., What science/medical/technical journal and organization haven’t been entirely corrupted by the vile Dhimmi-crats’ obnoxious, vindictive and infantile totalitarianism, at this point?

Just when you think that the vile, infantile and narcissistic Dhimmi-crats have reached the nadir of stupidity with their manifestly idiotic and self-congratulatory racial rants and obsessions, they manage to plumb new depths of even more profound idiocy.

Trees are “racist;” oceans are “racist;” fireworks are racist;” it’s all so utterly stupid and nonsensical, and, yet, this idiocy persists.

“Another piece of evidence confirming my assertion is National Geographic magazine’s editor Susan Goldberg. People recently mocked her online when she added ‘white, privileged, with much to learn’ to her email signature.”
————-

How is this type of transparently fake, self-serving and contrived attempt at humility not called-out for the manifestly narcissistic and self-aggrandizing stunt that it is? These people aren’t introspective or humble — they want to cover themselves in supposed glory and win plaudits, by showing off their “woke” bona fides. This behavior represents the exact opposite of true humility.

Well, to be fair, every time there are large diverse crowds gathered at night to watch fireworks, inevitably black people get shot and some killed in mass shootings by other black people. This means that fireworks cause blacks to be shot and killed. That’s rayyyyyyycist.

Fireworks are racist, huh? That’s funny because when we watched the fireworks in our Indiana town on the 4th, close to half of the crowd was black, Hispanic, and Asian.
