NYPD Arrests Suspect Accused of Attacking Asian Woman With Hammer

The suspect faces felony assault, felony criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing charges.

The NYPD arrested and charged homeless woman Ebony Jackson, 37, for allegedly attacking an Asian woman with a hammer in Hell’s Kitchen.

Jackson faces felony assault, felony criminal possession of a weapon, and menacing charges.

On Sunday, the attacker told the Asian woman to take off her mask:

The attack unfolded around 8:40 p.m. when the black suspect snapped at her 31-year-old victim, “Take off your mask!” in front of 411 W. 42nd St., cops said Monday.

The attacker swung a hammer at the victim, hitting her on the left side of the face, according to police.

Cops recovered the hammer, but the attacker is still in the wind. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime, authorities said.

The injured woman, who has an address listed in California, was treated at NYU Langone Hospital, cops said.

ABC7NY reported Theresa, the victim, said “her physical pain doesn’t compare to her psychological scars.” The outlet described her as “shaken up and traumatized and in total shock.” There’s more:

“She was talking to herself, like talking to a wall, I thought maybe she was drunk or something, so we just wanted to pass through her quickly and when I passed through her, she saw us and said ‘Take off your f***ing mask,’ which is shocking,” Theresa said. “Suddenly I felt my head get hit by something.”

She was rushed to the hospital and was said to be stable. She suffered a gash in her forehead — a deep wound on the left side of her head — and needed seven stitches.

Theresa came to New York in 2019 for her masters [sic] at FIT [Fashion Institute of Technology].

Theresa said she stayed with her parents in Taiwan during COVID. She came to New York in April to look for a job even though her parents worried about the Asian attacks in America.

Yes, probably. New York City is like a war zone. This, and similar incidents, happen every day.

Think of “Escape from New York” but without the humor.

My guess, in the black neighborhoods, 90% of the crimes don’t get reported.

It’s up to the local strongman/ Chief to sort things out

It’s a no no to go outside of the chain of command

Where is the SPLC? Where are the “anti” racist in all of this? Why has AOC not came out to Condemn this act of Racial Targeting? Oh me. Is it because the Perp is the wrong color.

If obongo had a sister (or another daughter)…

The real issues here are 1) homelessness and 2) mental illness. The latter of course is seen in many of the homeless people in our country. Until we get serious about dealing with people with mental illness meandering around on the streets, attacking others, stealing, doing drugs, and otherwise behaving in poor ways, we’re not going to solve these problems.

With regret, we need to bring back the psychiatric hospitals for these folks, and commit them to residency there until effectively treated (for some, that means lifetime). Failure to do so means continued street crime.

Yes, this attack was “black on Asian”. But more importantly, it was “crazy on sane”.

Unfortunately DeBlasio’s wife pissed away a billion dollars of taxpayer money without doing a darned thing about the mentally ill in NYC.

Well, she and DeBlasio don’t see it as “pissed away” – they were able to enrich their donors with fat contracts. No reporters care to look into this in a one-party state.

Sooo, while you and I may see it taxpayer money pissed away – Dems see it as a massive win for DeBlasio and one-party corruption.

“crazy on sane” is a good descriptor.

State mental hospitals will never come back. Despite their deficiencies they were costly to run, and the states don’t want to pay for it., When the federal government appeared willing to assume the costs of treating the mentally ill state governments couldn’t close their state hospitals fast enough.

And, even if these hospitals did still exist it’s become practically impossible to commit anyone who doesn’t wish to be committed. Massive legal reform would be needed to reverse this, and from where would the political will come to do so?

This is indeed the essence of the problem.

Crime rates of specific groups matter.

Ben Kent in reply to JusticeDelivered. | May 13, 2021 at 3:45 pm

Right. Asian violent crime rates are about 0.003%. Very low.

    >> I wonder what the violent crime rates are for other racial groups ?

Maybe people should do their research and look it up. National crime stats are just a Google search away.

Diversity or redistributive change? Either way: inequity, exclusion, and adversity.

Ebony Jackson dindu nuffin, you racists!

Once again, asian women getting attacked and no one steps in to help them. Third video hightling an attack on an asian woman/women with people there who just watch or walk away. WTF is wrong with people.

You first. Rgis us New York. If the good Samaritan so much as laid a hand on an attacker, he’d be charged with assault and battery. Leftist DAs and judges live on this sort of thing.

I’m not stepping in front of a crazy woman swinging a hammer.

Yeah not so much help available in NYC. I couldn’t be paid enough to live in NYC. Maybe the remnants of it’s cultural attractions are enough for some.

I will say that where I live in rural Alabama there would have been plenty of folks to intervene. On the other hand an intervention wouldn’t be necessary here because someone with obvious mental health issues yelling at and confronting passes by would have been detained quickly.

No innocent deserves to be attacked but if you choose to live and work in a large Metropolitan with rapidly rising rates of violence and crime you accepted those negative aspects as well as the remaining positive aspects.

Our choices in life have consequences no matter how much the d/progressive want to wish them away or pretend they don’t or shouldn’t exist. That somehow they are entitled to a life without any negatives.

Personally I can live without experiencing the ‘gritty realism’ of NYC.

I agree about NY and a bunch of other cities. I live in the WA State countryside, and if it happened around here and I was present, the attacker would have been looking down the barrel of the pistol I carry every day.

a fair question indeed–don’t need a lawbook to tell me that some jackass wandering around with a hammer injuring innocent people is in the wrong and, if am able or so inclined, should step up to help innocents(especially women/children)–re all these liberal da/prosecutors, “show me the law that says i’m obligated to stand there and let some jackass assault me or another innocent person ”

When I lived in Seattle, the blacks routinely assaulted and robbed Asians.

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to RandomCrank. | May 13, 2021 at 4:55 pm

I’ll get down-ticked for this, but blacks are itching for a backlash. There were reasons for “restricted clientele ” signs back in the days when freedom of contract still existed v

CommoChief in reply to The Friendly Grizzly. | May 13, 2021 at 6:38 pm

      Grizzly,

Making a judgement based solely on immutable characteristics isn’t something we want to return to. We are well past that overt stupidity.

The d/progressives are trying their hardest to divide our Nation into a tribal society with a neo feudal elite at the top and everyone else as serfs.

IMO we should not assist them.

These charges are a gift to the defendant. Trying to hit somebody in the head with a hammer is reasonably expected to cause death or severe and permanent injury. I call that attempted murder not aggravated assault.

Why? So she can be released through the back door before the day is over? By the way, Cuomo, how’s that impeachment going? Mwaa, mwa, mwaaaa ha ha ha ha ha.

How about a little hammer action on the perp and call it even?
