Burgess Owens Introducing Legislation to Fight Biden Rollback of Trump Ban on Critical Race Theory

“Critical Race Theory preserves this way of thinking and undermines civil rights, constitutionally guaranteed equal protection before the law, and U.S. institutions at large.”

Joe Biden is rolling back Trump’s ban on teaching Critical Race Theory in federal institutions. Rep. Burgess Owens (R-UT) is taking legislative steps to push back on the Biden administration.

As a successful black man from humble beginnings, Owens is using his own life story to illustrate his point.

Brianna Lyman reports at the Daily Caller:

EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Burgess Owens To Introduce Legislation Combating Biden’s Rollback Of Trump-Era Critical Race Theory Ban

Utah Republican Rep. Burgess Owens is set to introduce two pieces of legislation intended to combat President Joe Biden’s executive order rolling back a Trump-era ban on critical race theory, according to documents obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller.

One bill would restrict teaching critical race theory at federal institutions while a resolution would highlight the dangers of critical race theory and underline “the systemic racism and damaging philosophy within this prejudicial ideological tool.” Critical race theory holds that America is fundamentally racist, yet it teaches people to view every social interaction and person in terms of race. Its adherents pursue “antiracism” through the end of merit, objective truth and the adoption of race-based policies.

“I grew up attending segregated schools in the Jim Crow South during a time when people were treated differently based on the color of their skin,” Owens said in a statement obtained by the Daily Caller. “Critical Race Theory preserves this way of thinking and undermines civil rights, constitutionally guaranteed equal protection before the law, and U.S. institutions at large.”

“This is the United States of America, and no one should ever be subjected to the discrimination that our laws so clearly prohibit.”

Watch Owens address the issue in the video below:

As Reid Wilson of The Hill notes, Owens is not alone in this battle:

Republican-controlled legislatures in half a dozen states are taking up measures that would ban or limit the teaching of critical race theory in public schools, a new front in the culture wars that is likely to expand far more broadly in the coming years.

Idaho Gov. Brad Little (R) earlier this year became the first to sign legislation to withhold funding from schools that compel students to adopt viewpoints that are “often found in critical race theory.”

The Texas state Senate has passed similar legislation. The Tennessee state House advanced its own version through an education committee this week. And legislators in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Arizona are working on bills that would impact the curriculum in public schools in their own backyards.

Every Republican should get on board with this, and any Democrats who might be willing.

This backwards ideology should be rejected at every level.

“Every Republican should get on board with this.

But like always, they won’t until it is “safe” to do so. They might be accused of being a MAGA terrorist. Republicans can always be trusted to “find a middle ground” and then “fight” the Dems within the narrative established by the Dems and within their lexicon of acceptable terminology. It’s why Republicans can’t win without Trump and why the “middle” keeps lurching left.

Burgess Owens wasn’t in power before this year, and Trump did nothing on CRT until the last couple months of his presidency and did it because Tucker and Ruffo called out his government for being up to it’s neck in it.

I am glad we have people like Burgess Owens on our side and I don’t see why you aren’t.

      /this

I get being disgusted with some swampy Republicans and their lack of leadership on issues that matter to the base, but what I don’t get is bashing those Republicans who stand up and lead. I swear, we are own worst enemies. Nothing is ever good enough for the disaffected uniparty guys, and it never will be. They have no idea how to fix things, but they are great at tearing down anyone who tries. It aggravates me muchly.

Sorry about the down-tick. It is intended as an up-tick.

Please, Mr. Owens, run against Mitt Romney. I contributed to your House campaign, will double up if you take on Mittens.

More signs of the growing counterculture.

Sadly, it may have taken the reactionary Biden and his overkill to break the camel’s back and start the movement that will neuter the woke religion.

Look out for Mark Robinson of North Carolina, too, and the progressive neo-racism that follows. They can’t handle the truth.

This is part 1 of a successful legislative strategy.

1. Introduce legislation that is not only the right thing but also has broad public support. Check. We are here.

2. Drum up public support with targeted ads in purple districts held by d/progressive.

3. Force the issue. Either pick off enough d to pass or at least get out of committee and on to the floor.

4. Get Senate support for the legislation.

5. Media blitz. ‘ hey the Senate already passed this, the committee approved it but now the Speaker won’t even allow a floor vote’.

6. More targeted ads v vulnerable d to pressure the Speaker into allowing a floor vote.

7. If passes great! If not now there is a ready made campaign issue for the next congressional election.

8. Campaign ads v d who aligned against the issue, which has broad public support.

9. Hopefully, achieve a r majority.

10. New r majority passes the legislation.

It really is that simple. No more Kubuki theater post election about ‘other legislative priorities’. Get a majority and use the majority. Politely if possible, bare knuckled if not.

I remember Rep. Owens’s rookie season as a DB for the Jets. So proud of him now.

I applaud Congressman Owens for his efforts, but, man, is this an uphill battle. The Dhimmi-crats have been spreading their corrosive racial tribalism, contrived victimhood narratives and perpetual-grievance culture, for decades. The rot is deep and spreading, every day.

    Ok, Doomer.

You remind me of a toddler, slinging a dumb insult. Actually, toddlers are smarter than you. Oh, wow, “Doomer” — that’s really creative. Must have taken you fifteen minutes to come up with that one, genius! I’m expressing an opinion, merely noting the Dhimmi-crats have been at this nonsense for decades, and, that it’s an uphill battle to remove the cancer. Which is plain fact. You don’t agree with that statement? Write a civil and substantive response, like an intelligent adult would do.

You’re like one of those petulant, thin-skinned Leftists who can’t tolerate anyone who expresses an opinion that deviates one iota from yours, and, who lashes out like a whining toddler.

      Damn, you’re dumb as rocks.

Aloha, the dumb-as-rocks optimist! Sharing his optimistic outlook on things. What a genius this guy is, LOL. Dumber than Occasional-Cortex, this guy. Watch out, folks! This guy is not a “doomer!” He’s spreading optimism, in his infantile way!

      Alohahola,

‘ok Doomer’ – personally I thought it was funny as hell. Nothing wrong with a bit of optimism or choosing to be a ‘glass half full v glass half empty’ kind of person.

So long as you remember that ‘hope isn’t a plan’ that is.

Hey, Aloha, in case you didn’t figure it out, ’cause you’re dumb-as-rocks — go take that pole out of your rear end — you’ll feel better, you irrepressible optimist, you! And, then, you won’t respond like an over-sensitive, miserable, obnoxious douche to other people’s posts.

The basic point is that Critical Race Theory contradicts everything that America represents. Most Congressmen invested in Ivy League or other top notch college educations, they went to law school, they excelled at building their resumes and they got elected through being a part of the “establishment.” These Republicans and Democrats (and their donor base) are too invested in our national culture and power structure to throw everything out, including capitalism, and instead gamble the future on a new social order built upon “anti-racism” to the exclusion of merit. That would be like Robert Byrd joining the Black Panther Party. You can not oppose Rep. Owens’ legislation because it is too logical and “middle of the road.” So, instead the Democrats will try to avoid having to take a tough vote against their far left wing.
