The House of Representatives’ “American Rescue Plan Act of 2021” includes a provision that allows federal employees to collect up to $21,000 to stay at home if their child(ren) does not have school.

The provision also covers part-time and “seasonal” employees “with equivalent hours established by their agency.”

Page 305 of the bill details the “Emergency Federal Employee Leave Fund” from the Treasury Department.

The fund has $570 million “available through September 30.” Federal employees can receive paid leave if they have to care “for others due to Covid-19.”

Yet, those eligible include parents with a child(ren) who do not have in-person school:

Among those eligible are those who are “unable to work” because they are caring for school-aged children not physically in school full time “due to Covid-19 precautions[.]”

The new Fund allows a federal employee “caring for a son or daughter” to qualify for the paid leave, specifically:

“if the school or place of care of the son or daughter has been closed, if the school of such son or daughter requires or makes optional a virtual learning instruction model or requires or makes optional a hybrid of in-person and virtual learning instruction models, or the child care provider of such son or daughter is unavailable, due to Covid-19 precautions;”

From Forbes:

Under the bill as currently drafted, full-time federal employees can take up to 600 hours in paid leave until September 30, up to $35 an hour and $1,400 a week. That’s 15 weeks for a 40-hour employee. Part-time and “seasonal” employees are eligible, too, with equivalent hours established by their agency.

Federal employees currently have up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act. (A law passed in 2019, allows most federal employees – what the sponsors report is 2.1 million federal workers – up to 12 weeks of paid leave for the birth, foster placement or adoption of a new child.)

Adam Andrzejewsi noted the House wrote the bill with vague language. The writers did not specify the age range. Do parents qualify if their child(ren) is home from college?

How about schools that allow parents to choose between in-person and virtual learning? The parents can choose virtual and still pocket $1400 a week.

Those with children in open private schools do not qualify.

The $1400 a week comes from the taxpayers. Do you know who is not getting that $1400 a week? The majority of the taxpayers.

The majority of the taxpayers do not even qualify for the single $1400 checks in the COVID-19 bill!

Last time they did this crap I got a partial tax refund (with the rest of our refunds being spread amongst those who don’t even pay taxes in the first place).

This time it looks like they won’t even bother with the cursory gesture of refunding a part of my tax money.

In other words, the government never gave any of us taxpayers anything. They just returned a little bit of what they confiscated in the first place. The next group of powered aristocrats won’t even do that…they’ll just continue to take, never return, and still have the gall to try and shame the middle class for defying them while they sit back and watch us squirm all while enjoying the fancy nancy ice cream.

The military are federal employees. Does this include retired military as we are still drawing a paycheck from the federal government?

    Tsquared,

Nah probably not nor post office, most likely.

Likely only ‘real’ Federal government employees the ones that are members of the Federal employees unions; General Service schedule and federal executive level employees.

None of the rest of us matter enough.

This is a horrible idea in any event for any Federal government employee. Want more Trump/MAGA? This is one way to get it. The pure elitism of this provision is going to be poisonous electorally.

Wait! Did they say “son or daughter”? That kind of gender specific label was recently banned by HoR rules…. I am, again, confused by the actions of my “betters”.

We say bad things about this sort of obvious payoff but the Democrats don’t care. Payoffs are built in to everything they do. It’s what keeps them together as a party.

That’s always been The Chicago Way. And the way the Dems have operated in other big cities they completely control. Like, for instance, Detroit, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Milwaukee.

The Obamessiah made the practice virtually a federal government policy. The Biden Junta is consolidating the practice at the federal level.

The Dems tried to do this at the federal level before the Obamessiah. But they weren’t as effective and they tried to hide their efforts from the peons. Now they don’t bother to try to hide what they’re doing — because Trump!

It’s as though they think they’ll never lose another election. Just like they never lose an election in Chicago. Where general elections no longer exist. Where the Dem primaries are the general elections.

America’s neo-Marxist Democrats say…”Party members come first”.

This is one example.

Another is what Teacher’s Unions throughout the country are getting away with — refusing to go back to work, getting paid while sitting at home, demanding more as a condition of returning to work.

Further examples can be found in what was formerly called ‘law enforcement’. In which Party members are subject to a different set of laws than non-party members. Obvious example…See the handling of Antifa-BLM rioters in 200+ cities, including DC, for over 3 months last summer vs the handling of the Jan 6 rioters.

Regarding public schools, while closed they are expending much less money, supplies, utilities, maintenance. But taxpayers are still being assessed the same amount. Taxpayers should be receiving refunds amounting to those savings.

Anyone promoting CRT should be fired, teachers, administrators and other staff doing this should be fired and barred from contact with our children and grandchildren.

This budget season will be interesting for our school district. They’ll surely try to raise taxes again, like every year, even though expenditures have gone down.

So the people who never missed a paycheck to begin with get to collect another $20k? It doesn’t surprise me, though they usually try to cover their corruption a bit better.

Leftists sure take care of their own.

$21,000 buys private school tuition for the government employees. Note I didn’t say government workers.

Here’s a better reason they have all the military in DC these days.

I’m wondering what the angle on this is. Nothing proposed like this is just what it says. For example, if Mr. and Mrs. Civil Service employee have a child who attends a public school, this lets Mrs. homeschool or perhaps pool homeschooling and avoid the hour or two commute each way to DC while still getting paid the same or more?

Bribes. Plain and simple.

Where is the GOP on this? Nowhere.

Sorry, Donald. The GOP is DEAD.
