Newsom Recall Signature Level Hits 1.7 million as CA Citizens Keep Fighting Pandemic Policies
Carlsbad restaurants reopen indoor dining themselves and youth sports can resume after court hands parents victory.
Last week, I reported that the recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom movement hit the 1.5 million signature milestone, which is the minimum to get a recall vote on the ballot.
However, as many astute readers noted, the signatures will undergo microscopic inspection before officials approve them. So, the petitioners continue to gather signatures. They collected another 200,000.
[Orrin Heatlie, recall proponent] said the campaign has collected some 1.7 million signatures to date, with almost 1.3 million submitted to elections officials — though not all of those were delivered in time to be included in the report released Friday.
The threshold for qualifying a recall petition — enough signatures to equal 12% of the votes cast in the last gubernatorial election — is set in state law. If successful, it would fall to Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis to schedule the election, no later than 80 days after certification by Weber. A number of other steps are built into the elaborate process, including reviews of the election cost by state finance officials and the Legislature, and a 30-day window in which voters who signed the recall petition can ask to have their signatures withdrawn if they’ve changed their mind.
The fact that this recall effort has unexpectedly garnered so much support has shocked California’s Democratic elites hard, as evidenced by this response.
Dan Newman, a campaign spokesman for Newsom, said the recall is not what voters want to think about in the coming weeks and months.
“Californians want to stay focused on vaccinations, reopenings, relief and recovery — without the distraction and expense of a $100 million, hyperpartisan Republican recall circus,” he said in a statement.
I suspect Newman is going to be surprised Californians can do both at the same time.
Meanwhile, Californians saw a big win in trying to return some sense of normalcy to their children.
In a lawsuit filed by two local high school athletes, a Vista judge sided heavily with Torrey Pines Football Coach Ron Gladnick, allowing the resumption of outdoor youth sports with modifications in counties with case rates at or below 14 per 100,000.
Although this ruling is strictly for San Diego County, it sets a precedent for other counties, Coach Gladnick noted.
Weekly testing is required for all athletes and coaches in the sports.
Testing will be paid for by the state and results will come back within 24 hours.
Coach Gladnick mentioned he told his kids the morning of the ruling, “You’ve never seen such an explosion of spontaneous joy in your whole life.”
Furthermore, restaurant owners in Carlsbad (a city neighboring San Diego) are not waiting for California officials’ permission to reopen indoor dining.
Attorney Michael Curran represents the restaurants that are defying the County and State by returning to indoor dining under the banner of a “Constitutional peaceful protest.”
The businesses said they’re never going back despite COVID-19 regulations.

An election using voting machines is a de facto rigged election. It’s the only way Joe and the ‘Ho could have gotteb in.
Paper ballots and old time adding machines are the only hope for an honest election.

1/3 of 39,613,500 (Republicans in CA) is easily enough to trigger a recall.
But is the recall petition getting Democrat votes/signatures?
If it is this is impressive if not it is arguably a waste of time. In the state of California we need Democratic Party voters.
Anecdotally I am hearing from a lot that liberals are done with Newsome.
Honestly though, they are getting what they deserve; a part in Ayn Rand’s latest novel. They’re all locked cages which is exactly what they voted for.
Anecdotally I would say that is good news.
They also don’t deserve what they are getting if they are changing their minds as a result. Romans had a principle to limit the importance of any single election, people make mistakes.
Of course if this is to their liking than that is entirely different.
I’m not holding my breath for Ca to become a red or even purple state. I’m really rooting for the other side at this point to turn it into an absolute living hell to really drive the point home.
Same with Seattle and Portland.

demorat policies = failure. All the drug “refom” propositions lead to an explosion in the homeless population. democrats have instigated a slow motion zombie apocalypse. Drug abuse with no criminal repercussions is destroying individuals and their families. It spreads into and destroys communities. democrats flee these communities, but instead of changing their voting ways, they infect their new host with the same voting habits that caused them to flee in the first place. What’s in it for guys like gavin? Higher taxes and more government programs which means more kickbacks to him and his cronies somewhere down the line.
Is the homeless problem a result of drug reform or the resulting of letting mentally unbalanced people avoid treatment as prices go up and nothing adjusts to increasing cost of living?
Both poor economic conditions and the mental health crisis have been cited for why there is a homeless crisis in California are you sure those aren’t the cause?
The sense I get from listening to various sources is that it’s the Democrat voters who are really upset with the endless lockdowns, particularly the school shutdowns, being who have put Newsom in a no-win situation. Newsom absolutely needs a united Democrat base to prevail over the recall but the public across the board is fed up with the teachers’ unions and their adamant refusal to even discuss re-opening the schools.
Newsom cannot hope to win without the support of the teachers’ unions so he caves to them regardless of the science and in the face of broad and increasingly organized voter push-back (which is mostly Democratic voters by definition). But his caving also feeds the voter push-back even more and union support won’t translate into votes. But were he to defy the unions, they would turn on him.
Newsom is currently on a road trip to campaign outside of the LA media counties (hello Gray Davis?) hoping to bypass the LA Times to win support. Futility. He can’t win whatever he does.
It will be interesting to see if the recall petitions are dismissed without any accounting like they did with elections. This will backfire since most of the signatures are Democrats.
These are the kinds of issues that Trump is brilliant at exploiting, this is where the zenn diagrams reveal the important bread and butter issues can be found to form the Trump majority. While the swamp is obsessed with dividing everyone on phony race and gender issues, Trump is uniting Americans on what most Americans care about.
All the restauranteurs and retailers who were destroyed by Newsom’s idiocy and corruption were likely democrats.
