Marriott, Other Companies Vow to Suspend Donations to Politicians Who Voted Against Biden Certification

Is it worth alienating a big part of your base?

Marriott, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Commerce Bank, and other companies vowed to cut off money to the politicians who voted against President-elect Joe Biden’s certification after the riots at Capitol Hill.

From The Washington Post:

Marriott, the world’s largest hotel chain, said last week’s chaos at the Capitol caused the company to halt campaign donations to lawmakers who voted against certifying the electoral college results of President-elect Joe Biden’s win — a fresh sign of corporate America’s uneasiness with the violent attacks inspired by President Trump’s words.

The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association said it would do the same. The provider of health insurance to more than 100 million people said in a statement that its political action committee was suspending contributions “to those lawmakers who voted to undermine our democracy.”

Commerce Bank also said in a statement that its PAC has “suspended all support for officials who have impeded the peaceful transfer of power.” It has bank branches in five states, mostly in the Midwest.

The rabid group Lincoln Project plans to attack all companies who donated to the 138 Republican representatives and eight Republican senators who voted against Biden:

The project will launch both broadcast and cable advertising aimed at these companies and their senior leaders. The Lincoln Project will also target advertising for these corporation’s workers, hoping to “destabilize the companies’ operations by fomenting employee rebellions,” said Steve Schmidt, co-founder of the Lincoln Project.

Schmidt declined to comment on the companies the Lincoln Project plans to campaign against but pointed out that AT&T, BlackRock and Charles Schwab are among the corporate entities that donate to Republican lawmakers.

These private businesses have a right to take these actions, but could it backfire?

Public Citizen government affairs lobbyist Craig Holman described the moves as “something very new” and “could potentially alienate an important base for them.”

Like they did anyway. Pennies on the dollar what they give the left.

Howard Johnson motels were the first nationwide chain to break the color barrier. I guess we are back to homeless tents now since they are no where around.

It’s almost like it was planned. Democracy dies in virtue signalling.

https://cwbchicago.com/ has an article about that.

Thanks for that. Wrong Thought, Wrong Speak, Wrong Write. It is Chicago. MAGA is the new Juden… NOT trying the ever diminish what happened with that but I think many of us are getting a good taste of pending discrimination. Mark Steyn audio book now is , of course, “1984”. I need to start brushing up on “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch” as a survival manual.

          The quote to remember is

“ And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Think we are going to find out how well companies can work with 1/2 of the country.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Does anybody know if there is a web site or app or other central source to keep track of all the companies that have demonstrated their hatred and disdain for conservatives? It would be handy to have a reference tool to remember who NOT to ever spend money with again.

Sorry to hear it, they used to be one of my first choices when traveling.

I wonder if Romney had any sway in that decision or if the entire Mormon organization is the same way.

Biden, Pelosi and the media have poisoned the well, this country is over, it has become the socialists versus Americans.

The list of companies to boycott keeps growing and growing and growing.

Guess that the TPTB at Marriott think they’ll get enough new customers to balance out the current ones who will no longer patronize them, all during a time when hotels are sitting empty for the most part.

But the ball is now definitely rolling, in that if your company does not go along with all of this you’re not only going to have to worry about the activists but the feds.

Marriott, eh? And here I though that the Republican Party was the Party of the Rich Fat Cats (TM)!

I would like to boycott Marriott, but I never used them since they are rather pricy.

AS for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, I once considered them for health care, but they were also pretty pricy without providing a lot in the way of services.

Come to think of it: do all of these companies cater only to the super rich?

The Democrats always accuse others of their own sins. The Democrats are factually the party of the ultra-rich, yet they accuse the Republicans of being that.

You can still go on forums and dis them, do so vaguely. If lots of us do this, it will harm them. Express opinions 🙂 Or ask suggestive questions. No libel in either case.

I had BC/BS through my employer many years ago. After years of paying hundreds of dollars a month (mostly by my employer) for years, I finally filed a claim – to find out they only paid about $250 on a $25,000 bill. I wouldn’t recommend them to a Democrat, much less anybody I cared about or respected.

Corporations are people too.

Remember how most of us on the right cheered the rulings that allowed corporate entities to use their vast resources to influence out political life.

Yeah, well, maybe we got that one wrong.

Citizens United was a terrible decision. I would add that young, wildly successful companies are usually pretty arrogant, they think their crap does not stink, and that they walk on water. They have to have their wings clipped a few times before they become more cautious. We are seeing this right now.

Milhouse in reply to Rabel. | January 12, 2021 at 12:52 am

Corporations are persons under the law, and have constitutional rights. That’s not even slightly controversial. More to the point, corporations are made up of people, and they don’t lose their rights just because they choose to pool their resources to act together in a way that none of them could afford to do on their own.

If you seriously think that the government has the right to censor all books and newspapers just because they are all published by corporations (as Elena Kagan argued to the Supreme Court), then you don’t belong anywhere near this blog and have no right to call yourself conservative.

      Burn_the_Witch in reply to Milhouse. | January 12, 2021 at 3:25 pm

Every once in awhile when visiting LI, I like to scroll down to the comments and see what silly thing Millhouse said. Thanks for not disappointing.

Honestly, if you’re not going to bother to read for comprehension, what’s the point of posting? Rabel didn’t say that corporations weren’t recognized as people by law. Rabel quite clearly, in succinct plain language said that we got that law wrong.

      *Reads Rabel’s comment again*

Nope, not a peep about censoring books or newspapers. But addressing your strawman anyway, suggesting that corporations are people and should be afforded the same rights and subject to the same rules for individuals is indeed controversial. Possibly delusional.

Anyway, sorry to bother. Please carry on!

LOL. Given this corporate attitude I highly doubt they ever gave any money, to start with.

Marriott will probably be killed dead by their dem friends’ Wuhan power grabs before long, anyway.

BTW, there are a lot of hotel brands that belong to Marriott, such as Westin, Gaylord, Sheraton, Ritz-Carlton, and the list goes on.

This is getting difficult to keep track of.

Bye Bye Marriott. You’re smarter if you stay at a Holiday Inn Express anyway. If they go stupid, they’ll be out too!! Wonder if they know anything about the power of the purse or are they too Democrap to believe that thinking people can see right through their transparent Nazi tactics?

It would be great if some corporate boardroom types found their collective voice…then we could see them start a group called Balls in the Boardroom.

“Is it worth alienating a big part of your base?…”

Apparently it is. NEVER stay at a Marriot dump.

Same with Blue Cross, who is going the same way.

Let’s show them our economic power.

Looks like I need to suspend donations to BC/BS.

Hurry up Open Enrollment!

Before the pandemic curtailed international travel, Marriott made a tremendous amount of money on Chinese tourism…high social-score Chinese sightseeing in Utah. Busloads from planes landing in SLC would spend the night at the Provo Marriott before heading to national parks; next day, new tour. I would assume this was an arrangement across the country.

Surprised they didn’t give the repubs tons of money – like they did for blm when they were rioting, looting and burning things down.

Verizon has joined in.

Looks like I’ll have to continue my life-long boycott of Marriott.

Marriott is doing us a favor. Their hotels will be no better than their politics. Let the fascists get the bedbugs.

Anacleto Mitraglia | January 12, 2021 at 5:40 am

I hope I’ll see the day when the electors will realize that the more a campaign is rich and its ads flowing, the more the politician is corrupted and unworthy of their vote.

The Stalinist will take control of the country on Jan 20th and America dies. Many companies are trying to provide a place for themselves with the incoming regime. That means since they no longer care for America, I no longer care for them and all interactions with the identified enemies of my country will cease.

Holiday Inn Express and Drury Inns have been our favored places to stay the last few years. We didn’t know we were making a good decision outside of value and convenience until now.

Over the past ten years, I’ve spent an average of 15 nights a year at Marriott properties. Going forward, I won’t.

If you plan to boycott these anti-American companies, spread the word. AND, tell the CEO, the CFO, and every other MFer that has any power within each of those companies that you are doing so, and why.
