Furman University Prof Who Identified as Chicana Resigns After Being Outed as White

“a scholar of African American history who resigned abruptly Tuesday”

https://youtu.be/j3YVNEqmEFg

In September, we covered the story of a George Washington University professor who claimed to be black and resigned after it was revealed she was white. We then covered a nearly identical story about a doctoral student at UW-Madison.

Now we bring you the story of Kelly Kean Sharp, who recently resigned from Furman University after it was revealed that she is white, but has been identifying as Chicana. Why does this keep happening?

Colleen Flaherty reports at Inside Higher Ed:

Even More White Lies

Another week, another unmasking of a white professor allegedly posing as a person of color: this time it’s Kelly Kean Sharp, a scholar of African American history who resigned abruptly Tuesday from her assistant professorship at Furman University.

Like other apparent racial fraudsters before her, Sharp was outed by an anonymous post on Medium. The writer of the post identifies him or herself as having “distantly” known Sharp when she was graduate student at the University of California, Davis. Sharp had never publicly identified as Latinx back then, the writer said, so they were recently puzzled to learn that Sharp had since started referring to herself as Chicana, including on her now-private Twitter profile. According to screenshots included in the post, Sharp has tweeted about her abuela, or grandmother, from Mexico, and posted elsewhere about her “abuela who came to the U.S. during WWII who worked hard so I could become a teacher.”

The writer said they started talking to others who knew Sharp, and these colleagues were similarly “confused.” Some then allegedly asked Sharp about the “newfound identity,” and Sharp allegedly said her grandmother was originally from Mexico. Yet when the scholars looked into that explanation, “we found that Kelly had no grandparents who were born outside of the U.S. or had Hispanic names.”

Here’s an excerpt from the anonymous post on Medium:

Kelly Kean Sharp: Chicana?

I have watched the unmasking of CV Vitolo and Jessica Krug from afar. But when an old friend pointed me to the twitter bio of Dr. Kelly Kean Sharp, currently an Assistant Professor at Furman University, I now had a similar example on the edges of my own circles. I had distantly known Kelly while she was a PhD student at University of California, Davis, and was more than surprised to find out that she was now describing herself as Chicana.

This discovery led to multiple conversations and a flurry of research on the part of people who had known Kelly at UC Davis. They approached me to help publicize her fabrication and strategic use of a Chicana identity…

She has made numerous tweets further implying Chicana identity, attaching various hashtags to communicate this identity, like #Chicana, #Chicanapride, and #Chingonasunite. Were these hashtags meant to further promote this claimed identity as a Chicana Assistant Professor? Even more, in one tweet Dr. Kean Sharp referenced the cooking habits of her “abuela” and in another she claimed this “abuela” came to the United States during WWII and “worked hard” to make Kelly’s career possible.

News of Sharp’s outing and departure has not gone unnoticed on Twitter:

Perhaps we need a new ‘studies’ department dedicated to the study of this phenomenon.

Furman?
That won’t go over well with the Baptist conservative crowd

    It’s a woman.

Note to date all these frauds have been “women.”

Shaun King was also a fraud.

Thanks, but since 2015 with the question of his race was raised, he’s never claimed to be anything but a BLM founder I think.

        Wiki

        Questions regarding race

In August 2015, Milo Yiannopoulos questioned King’s biracial identity in an article for Breitbart News. Yiannopoulos reported that King’s birth certificate lists Naomi Fleming and Jeffrey Wayne King, both of whom are white, as King’s parents[5] and that a police report cited King’s race as “white.”[71]

King responded that his mother has told him that his biological father was not the man mentioned on his birth certificate but rather a light-skinned black man.[7][13] His wife, who knew him in high school, and other classmates have stated that they understood King to be biracial growing up.[citation needed]

King and his supporters expressed concern that such questions were an attempt to distract from the Black Lives Matter movement.

Excuse me, Shaun King is properly referred to as Mr. “Talcum X.”

      Except for Talcum X.

White women have an unusually large frequency of political mental
      Illness.

Why?

Because modern academia and “higher education” are largely one big fraud and the ones that play the game best win.

Seeing how race is largely an imaginary concept everyone should be able to be whatever race they want. What is racist is discrimination based on race, aka affirmative action.

“revealed that she is white, but has been identifying as Chicana. Why does this keep happening?”

It’s all that white privilege. Or something.

So much discrimination in this country against minorities that whites are voluntarily becoming minorities.

Interesting. In Europe there were Jews who avoided being identified as Jews because they feared the wrath of Nazis and other anti-Semites.

To be fair this prof is not denying being white out of fear for her life, but out of crass opportunism (by contrast Jews who avoid being identified as Jews were simply trying to stay alive). But where is all this “white privilege” I keep hearing about but never actually see? Kelly Kean Sharp the Chicana gets a cushy, high-paying gig. Kelly Kean Sharp the white person has to quit. Is this America or Rwanda?

At least there are a few people in academia who have sense enough to be outraged by fraud.

It is a low bar, I admit.

she’s just as Latina as Barrie and Kamala are African American

What do you expect from an academic who is channeling Elizabeth Warren? Unfortunately, Academia as a whole is built right now on a thin tissue of lies and BS, say the politically correct things will get you further than doing the right thing. Creating and living a false lie that is politically correct is more important than truth.

Universities (and those that fund them) need to control this cancer before it destroys them.

In the late 70s, I worked with a guy who really, really wanted to be a Mujahideen in Afghanistan (they were fighting the Soviets at the time); he talked about it constantly. I kept reminding him that he was the palest WASP around. As far as I know, he didn’t start identifying as an Afghan warlord.

According to science mankind originated in Africa which makes everyone In America an African American. Accepting this scientific fact you should change your race to African American. This would have the benefit of ending racism because everyone would be of the same race. Remember how the race pimps call high tech companies racist because they can’t find African American engineers? This change would end that because everyone in the company would be African American.

It would be an admirable alter ego; those Afghanis are tough people.

One of my classmates at Oberlin spoke with a perfect English accent despite having no English relatives, nor had he ever been there.

Maybe, her Abuela can help her find another job; in Mexico?

MajorWood in reply to TempeJeff. | October 30, 2020 at 9:49 pm

I wonder if she appropriated Tuco’s abuela? That was the first time I ever heard that word, and I think this morning was the second.

kyrrat in reply to MajorWood. | November 1, 2020 at 1:43 am

You clearly never watched Dora the Explorer or Diego. Children’s show. Every kid my son’s age watched it growing up. But, spanish is quite prevalent in my neck of the woods too. So, yeah knowing the terms for relatives in spanish is common even if you are not hispanic.

“Why does this keep happening?”

Because progressives are exploiting the legislation they put into place to get ahead. If hiring was based on merit only, and not race or gender, I doubt these feckless fools would have gotten the job in the first place.

White privilege is such a privilege that more and more white women are pretending to be black and Hispanic to get ahead and garner approval.

That’s not how privilege is supposed to work.

Racial fraud is and has been for many years the easiest path for a middling professor to get a coveted job. I am guessing the same has occurred frequently in corporate hiring.

Back in ’92 I resigned my commission as a US Submarine Officer. I thought when I resigned the fortune 100 would beat a path to my door, boy was I wrong. By the eighties racial/gender preferences were firmly entrenched in corporate and academic circles in the US. I had a recruiter that specialized in placing Sub Officers and he formed a cohort of me and five other Sub O’s (all male, white, engineers) and one female Supply Officer. He then brought in several F100 companies (P&G, GE, Lockheed, etc) for round robin interviews. After 15 companies the woman got 15 offers – the men got none.

In frustration we asked the recruiter what was wrong – his answer “Change your name to something indian sounding and check the native american box on the application and I will get you 15 offers too”.

I started ticking the “Hispanic” box sfter I got the message that Whites need not apply. Look at my avatar; that is me. I also have a German surname, and a Dutch middle name. But, under government definitions, those who are descended from – or are – people who speak or spoke Spanish, or, I think Portuguese, are defined as Hispanic. It is not a racial group, it is one of language.

I did it with good concscience because my mother’s family got run out of Spain during the Inquisition times, and ended up in Holland. If it meant a roof over my head, food in the kitchen, and fuel for the car, then there it is. The leftists gave me the tools, and I used them. In the near future, I will be applying for a house loan; I will be ticking the Magic Minority box again. Sure, my credit is north of 800, but, belts and braces, people. Belts and braces!

AF_Chief_Master_Sgt | October 30, 2020 at 1:45 pm

Well, if males can identify as females, why can’t a white woman identify as a Chicana?

If there are 57 genders, why can’t there be multiple varieties of Chicanas?

If truth is merely a perspective, then can’t the white girl be Chicana?

If Hispanics are Caucasian, then can a Caucasian be Hispanic?

What’s the big deal? It’s not like she’s running for president. Right? Maybe she should take one of those tests. It will probably prove that she’s 1/2400 Latinex (whatever that is?). Just sayin’.

From the Medium story. “Why, we must ask, are privileged upper middle-class white women so successful in taking advantage of diversity programs?” #BelieveAllWomen- Please pick up the White Courtesy phone.

If white privilege is so prevalent why do all these losers leverage other races to get jobs?

White privilege so powerfully privileging white folks culturally appropriate different skin color so they can benefit from all the self-identifying privilege. Or something.

WTH is ‘Chicana?’ My head hurts…

Kelly Kean Sharp

That’s not even trying. She should have changed her name to Princess Angelina Contessa Louisa Francesca Banana Fanna Bo Besca Aguda.

It’s a terrible, terrible burden to be non-white in a country was created to, and still thrives by, exploiting non-whites.

In fact, it’s such a terrible burden that more and more whites seem to be choosing to forgo all of that white privilege just so they can pass as non-white!

You ain’t chicana

I can’t believe that ANYONE has to ask the question of why racial masquerades continue to happen. It is because it benefits the person masquerading. It is accepted because it benefits the members of the group of which the masquerader is a part. See?

Let me reveal to you an important secret of the universe. Human beings are all amoral, selfish opportunists. Every one of use bases our decisions on how to act solely upon enlightened self interest. If a person feels that he can benefit more from being honest than from lying, he will be honest. If he feels that lying, cheating and stealing is of greater personal benefit, he will lie, cheat and steal. In this regard, human beings are very simple creatures. Where we show complexity is in how we assign benefit, to our actions. Some people’s motivation is totally rooted in personal, short term gain. For others it is rooted in long term gain. And, still others is rooted in gain for family, friends, clan, tribe, society, etc. Some will sacrifice their lives to benefit others, who are important to them. Some will sacrifice others for their own benefit. The trick is telling which is which.

“Caveat emptor.” “Trust, but verify.” “Show me the money.” All good phrases to live by.

Students should sue to get their money back for courses this idiot taught.

Fauxcahontas was the firsrt fraud to pull this sickness – and she is still in high office.

Wait, I thought the stupid communists said you could be anything you want to identify as.

Sounds like she thought she could get away with some serious “chican(a)ery”

Okay, why am I wasting my time working like a dog if I could take advantage of my racial privilege to make money easily scamming liberals? I did a quick search and according to Glassdoor and assistance professor at Furman U. makes 79,502/year.

If they get that pretending to be minority, how much could I make being not only a certified minority but foreign born and with an accent? That’s probably worth over $100,000 at Furman U…and who knows, if I make it to Harvard I could get the Elizabeth Warren special… the possibilities are endless…I could be senator…

High school and college white guys have been saggin pants, rappin music, and doing the “ya know what 8’m sayin game” since about 1992. I found it annoying then and it’s still annoying. However, those guys aren’t profiting off their game….these new race fakers are. Talk about one upping! Now…..wonder how many more are hiding in plain sight in academia? How many will quietly get a new job at another uni?

I’m confused. I thought the default position of woke academia was that you could “identify” as anything you wished … aka transracialism. Yet this person isn’t allowed to. Could it be that transracialism is only tolerated when the pro-claimer is non white? Or is woke academia getting all caught up in their underwear …
