Trump: Wants Vote On SCOTUS Nominee Before Election Day, Doubts Ginsburg Made Statement About Delaying

Expects nominee to be named on Friday or Saturday.

Donald Trump appeared on Fox and Friends this morning. He stated that he expected to name his nominee for the Supreme Court on Friday or Saturday, after funeral proceedings for Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Trump stated that he wanted a vote before Election Day:

“I think the vote, the final vote, should be taken, frankly, before the election. We have plenty of time for that,” Trump said in an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

“Yeah, I think it should go very quickly. We have a lot of time,” he continued. “Especially if the people we’re talking about, most of them are young and they’ve gone through the process pretty recently.”

From Fox News:

During an exclusive interview on “Fox & Friends,” the president said that the final Senate vote for his potential nominee should be taken “before the election” and “should go very quickly.”

Ginsburg, 87, died on Friday, due to complications surrounding metastatic pancreatic cancer.

“The bottom line is we won the election, we have an obligation to do what’s right and act as quickly as possible,” Trump said.

He further expressed doubt that Ginsburg made the statement attributed to her by her granddaughter about delaying until the next president.

He said there are five women on his short list, and gave a specific shout out to the “38 year old” who would be on the court for 50 years (he didn’t mention her name, she’s Allison Jones Rushing).

Sock it to them. Psycho dems cannot work their rage up much more without blowing gaskets.

    The broken record:
    – not Hilary, now not Biden
    – Judges
    – everything else is gravy

In 2016, I thought Pres Trump was the least awful option and I voted for him. Boy, was I wrong. In 2020, I am a supported and advocate. Is he perfect, no – none of us are.

Damn the torpedoes, Fill the seat.

JusticeDelivered in reply to rabid wombat. | September 21, 2020 at 9:34 am

I also considered Trump to be the lesser evil. I knew a great deal about the Clint clan, and can stand Hillary.

With Trump, he was an unknown politically, but he was saying the right things. Being used to politicians, I was skeptical that he would follow through.

Owning several businesses, and having earlier businesses which failed, having deadbeat clients bad mouth me, I saw all the claims about Trump as probably being false.

I never viewed Trump as being similar to Hillary’s character, more like I saw him as not having any political track record.

Since that time we have a track record, I hope other politicians learn from Trump’s great example, but I am not holding my breath.

I am concerned about finding someone for 2024 to carry on post Trump, his shoes are going to be very hard to fill.

They have been threatening everything they now (again) threaten if the President and Senate majority proceed to nominate and confirm a person to fill the SCOTUS vacancy. Nothing new here, the Socialist/Communist run cities will have more urban renewal by fire and unemployed university students will come out of their parent’s basements to allow professional organizers whip them into a frenzy of destruction. Maybe this time the politicians will actually do something to stop the mayhem and destruction… Nah, never happen.

CorkyAgain in reply to Edward. | September 21, 2020 at 1:04 pm

The people they’re really threatening is their own base, and the message they’re sending is “If you don’t show more enthusiasm for our lackluster candidate(s) and vote in force against the Republicans, we’ll burn down your homes and your neighborhood.”

It’s like the Soviets in WW2, who had enforcers following the soldiers in the front line, ready to shoot anyone who showed any sign of shirking or thoughts of retreat.

When you look at it this way, you understand why it’s almost always the bluest cities where the riots are occurring.

Interesting discussion with Robert Barnes about whom Trump should nominate for SCOTUS. Barnes claims Amy Coney Barrett would be a disaster both as a nominee and Justice and cites many reasons why he thinks so.

I’ll ask again, who is Robert Barnes? So I relied on Duck Duck and found:

Is he the Robert Edward Barnes who advertises his law firm thusly:
“Trial lawyer. High-profile wins for clients in civil, criminal & constitutional law. Political Gambler. Bloomberg News writer: ‘So, next time, bet with Barnes.’ ”

The same Robert Edward Barnes Wiki entry – in part:
“Robert Edward Barnes (born April 11, 1974) is a criminal tax attorney and business law and civil rights law advocate.Robert Barnes is the founder of Barnes Law LLP, a Los Angeles, California based law firm specializing in IRS investigations, tax fraud, asset recovery, and private banking.”

Yeah, that seems to be a well qualified, reliable source.

JohnC in reply to Edward. | September 21, 2020 at 9:37 am

      When did you ask before?

Edward in reply to JohnC. | September 21, 2020 at 9:41 am

In the “Poll” article comments. Don’t know if that was a comment with link you posted to which I replied, or someone else who viewed his youtube post. Didn’t go back to see who posted before replying to you.

Edward in reply to Edward. | September 21, 2020 at 9:44 am

The “ask again” was intended to address the LI community, not you specifically. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

DaveGinOly in reply to Edward. | September 21, 2020 at 1:17 pm

Instead of rejecting him as a source out of hand (your comment makes it seem that you have dismissed him based on what you learned from your search), you should give him a listen.

His interviewer, “lawyer turned vlogger,” Viva Frei, is a Canadian lawyer. Knowledgeable about the law and therefore able to ask the right questions, but unsure enough about American law to ask the types of questions that people often ask in this forum. He comes from a position of informed ignorance, and he the self-awareness to understand that.

Give them a try. I think you will find them entertaining and informative. Dismissing Barnes based on what you’ve read about him seems too much like dismissing Rush Limbaugh (who I think is at his best when discussing the Republican party, rather than discussing Democrats) based on what you’ve heard about him from the MSM.

    tom_swift in reply to JohnC. | September 21, 2020 at 9:38 am

His reasons for thinking Barrett would be a disaster are different from mine, but our conclusions are the same.

Jackie in reply to JohnC. | September 21, 2020 at 10:18 am

Barnes is well informed. Exactly how I feel. Lagoa is the perfect candidate. She can get confirmed, Barrett can’t.

GatorGuy in reply to Jackie. | September 21, 2020 at 10:49 am

Polled and responsive LI readership have voted overwhelmingly for ACB. Stated reasons for this, so far relatively absent, would help us Lagoa supporters understand what win-the-war-,-not-only-the-battle advantage they see in her nomination/confirmation that we don’t, among other useful things.

I think even LI readers go with the public perception. Barrett’s name comes up in every story. I don’t think they know about Lagoa. Lagoa has all the advantages.

I agree with Trump.
That alleged statement on her deathbed definitely looks like another democrat cooked up hoax.
Plus her granddaughter, the only one who claims she made the statement is an avowed leftist and Trump hater.
In any event it’s irrelevant. Nothing personal towards the late justice, just politics.

Her niece was paraphrasing her last dying words. What she actually said was: “I wish I had resigned while Obama was still president.”

I thought I read in was her niece but if it was her granddaughter, it changes nothing.

It is worth mentioning that Trump/McConnell/whoever managed to smoothly usher Anthony Kennedy off the court in order to seat Kavanaugh, and not risk having this seat filled by a Dem in a few years. Why couldn’t Dems manage to do this with RGB? So much of their anger about this situation should really be directed at RGB and Obama (and Reid, I guess).

Actually the unselfish thing to do was to leave when Obama could replace her. She was over 80 at the time. I guess she thought Hillary could not lose.

GatorGuy in reply to Jackie. | September 21, 2020 at 11:23 am

Self-centered brat-workoholics, particularly those so narcissistically inclined such as her, may she RIP, who are absolutely sure her fellow nationals can’t sustain themselves in the absence of her thinking and input, just wouldn’t likely consider such a thought — claimed to better support and even advance the causes she, we were all so well-propagandized about, struggled to lead and effectuate — with the public’s alleged benefit atop a hierarchy of objectives in her self-important life.

When push came to shove, then, it seems that RBG wasn’t the paragon of moral virtue we were all forced to believe she was. The Court-Commissar’s selfish arrogance backfired on her (ironically unequal) comrades, in typical Leninist/Stalinist fashion.

May her death have freed and officially relieved her from the torturous bonds she officiously threw on herself. Her soul should not suffer such swollenness in eternity.

      Again, may she always RIP.

      tom_swift in reply to Jackie. | September 21, 2020 at 2:49 pm

As I saw when she made her confirmation speech ‘way back in the ’90s, RBG was motivated by revenge. I couldn’t tell what exactly it was revenge for, but it was obviously all-consuming. She spent the rest of her life doing her damndest to reorder society in the way her personal demons thought best. But she was a selfish old bat, and not only wanted to stick it to us but good, but she wanted to do it herself. Abandoning her project was obviously out of the question—in the manner of all tyrants, once made, they are almost never un-made.

I don’t consider myself a particularly perceptive man. I wouldn’t notice if my hair was on fire (that’s a true story, it was and I didn’t). But RBG’s obsession was so obvious I couldn’t believe that anybody could miss it. Now 27 years later, I still can’t.

        hopeful in reply to tom_swift. | September 21, 2020 at 5:32 pm

Couldn’t agree more, Tom Swift. Entitled old battle axe, too speshul to do what the little people do. and fade gracefully away. She was obviously lying her face off the whole last few moths– knew she was dying, and making sure articles about her “pushups” were published., hoping to cheat the devil for a couple more months.

As for RIP. That’s above my pay grade. She gave me no RIP, so back to her.

hopeful in reply to Jackie. | September 21, 2020 at 5:27 pm

Nah, she thought she was “speshul”. Entitled old bat.

Replace the Notorious one, full speed ahead. MAGA.

Does it matter if she made the comment or not? It’s not her call. It never was and her bitter clinging to the chair for partisan reasons failed…end of story. I hope her tainted legacy ends with this failure as a stamp.

As Clinton Appointed Sotomayer, Woman, Liberal Activist, replaced Reagan Appointed J.Daniel Mahoney….

It would stand to reason that Ginsburg be replaced by a Conservative Male.

But it would appear the Nomination is at the mercy of groupthink and pandering.

Maybe Trump is just baiting.

But to go and vet a dozen potential candidates knowing you are going to dismiss all the Men without regard to their qualifications seems ah… dumb.

As as spanking to Senate Dems for their outrageous Kavanaugh shenanigans, Mitch, as suggested by Rush, should hold a confirmation vote w/o any hearings

Dr S in reply to MarkS. | September 21, 2020 at 3:54 pm

Actually that is a good idea. Or at least a variant of it. If the hearings become Abusive then the hearings are over. Then full senate vote without further hearings.

I didn’t believe it for a second, most supposed last words are made up.

When I heard of her “deathbed request” on the ABC Nightly Comedy Show, I turned to The Bride and asked, “How do we know?” We still don’t.

I’m like everybody else here. A bit skeptical.
.

A fresh morsel on the nominee list:

https://twitter.com/jonathanvswan/status/1307142084256727040

Which somehow I find more acceptable than releasing a lenghty list.

If his pick was Amy at the outset, I’m ok with that.
It’s just the pretense of a list that bothers me.

Here is a good giggle:
One minute.

My theory is that RBG did not trust 0bama to choose a decent justice. RBG saw and had to endure the injudicious uninspiring 0bama nominees he did get confirmed. She was banking on Hillary ’16 and would have retired during Hill’s first year.

The RBG respectablity was diminished as she has not been able to fully do her job for at least a couple of years and well knew she was past her “use by” date but hoped to crawl across the election date finish line, hoping for a Biden miracle.

Constitutional judges consider the law and the process while liberal judges consider who they think SHOULD win.

CorkyAgain in reply to sidwhite. | September 21, 2020 at 9:35 pm

I wonder if she was disappointed when Biden got the nod. If she thought *Obama* couldn’t be trusted to make a good nomination to the Court…

What’s to negotiate? Nominate someone and then test the Republican senators just before the election. They confirm the nominee or they answer at the polls for letting the Dems replace Ginsburg.

CorkyAgain in reply to stablesort. | September 21, 2020 at 4:39 pm

Let’s not assume that the Dems will take control of the Senate or the White House if they manage to stop the confirmation of this nominee.

Even if we don’t seat a replacement now, I think we’re going to get another crack at it.

In the hypothetical election of Biden, we would all be punished.

hopeful in reply to snowshooze. | September 21, 2020 at 5:40 pm

Who is going to vote for that demented, lying old skull head? His “supporters” are either burning and looting all night, or are cowering in fear of the CORONA! !!!! who is coming to get us all if we don’t close all the churches and pass a law making everyone wear masks til 2030. For sure, they can’t be bothered to come out to see him.

His last outing he was panting for breath, for heaven’s sake. I know a lot of Dems are dumb, but that dumb?

Trump didn’t doubt the statement so much as mocking its supposed importance. It doesn’t matter who said it, it doesn’t affect anything, in other words.

Plus it’s a tweak of the named idiotic persons.

I am fairly confident that Trump will overcome and be re-elected.
However, in my town, I missed out on three elections recently.
They started ballot by mail.

I don’t know if my two mail-in ballots ever made it to my desk, and the other election I only herd of when it was announced the polls were closing.
That was a regular In-person vote following two mail in’s…

But the thing was, I have always been accoustomed to seeing the flag-wavers on the street corners trying to get your vote.

They seem to have disappeared.

And I listen to talk radio, but there was no buildup to the election.

Normally, I never miss one.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to snowshooze. | September 21, 2020 at 8:40 pm

We may be starting the corner flag waving soon in my town, but we are making allowances for the possibility of Leftist attacks. Since Colorado is an open carry state, and we have had experience with threats to petition-carriers we were protecting, there may be interesting times.

    Subotai Bahadur

When I heard Schmuckles The Clown tell us her so-called “deathbed request” I immediately knew it was complete BS! That man squats when he talks!

In Justice Ginsburg’s own words: ““That’s their job. There’s nothing in the Constitution that says the president stops being president in his last year.”

Take a hike Ratz!
