Students at Northwestern Want to Completely Abolish Greek Life System

“advocates say the current system primarily benefits white and wealthy students”

This sentiment is probably present on many college campuses. The argument at Northwestern is that the system is elitist.

The College Fix reports:

Northwestern students want Greek life abolished, accuse it of white elitism

A group of students at Northwestern University, including fraternity and sorority members, want to see the abolition of Greek life on campus.

Advocates for abolition accused the Greek life system of promoting elitist and racist attitudes, according to an anonymous Instagram page that publishes stories about the fraternity and sorority system at Northwestern.

The advocates say the current system primarily benefits white and wealthy students.

The Instagram page called “Abolish NU IFC/PHA [Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Association]” started posting on July 22, sharing stories of students and their complaints about Greek life at the private university in Illinois.

The Interfraternity Council represents fraternities at Northwestern and the Panhellenic Association represents sororities.

“The Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Association are complicit in perpetuating harm. We must abolish these organizations which are embedded with racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and classism,” the initial post stated.

Where’s Bluto Blutarsky now that we need him?

So, so brave, they need to hide the people behind the accusations.

Ironically, anonymous, the word, is derived from Greek roots.

These are private organizations and not the business of the whiners and pants-wetters objecting to them.

That having been said, I recall my college days. I looked around at the various frats and found most of them to be filled with horrible people. Drunkards, louts, loudmouths. I did not qualify for any of the high-achiever fraternities like Phi Beta Kappa, so those were not even in my line of sight. ATO overflowed with WASP insularity. ZBT, feh! Others were as I described above.

Somehow, I survived.

So form a frat for poor people. Or form another one for colored people. But above all else, go fuck yourself.

I wonder if these calls to abolish so-called Greek life at universities are going to encompass traditionally Black fraternities and sororities as well. Will groups like “Greek Life Matters” pop up on campus to defend frats and sororities? Will anyone who ever attended a fraternity or sorority party be ‘cancelled’ for their offense? (Hello, Ralph Northam.)

Sounds to me like a bunch of kids were disappointed they didn’t get invited to join the fraternity/sorority they wanted and now they’re throwing a tantrum using ‘isms’ and ‘phobias’ for cover all because they didn’t get to sit at the cool kids table.

    They already do.

The argument at Northwestern is that the system is elitist.

Northwestern admits about 9% of its applicants. That is highly selective. Another term for “highly selective” is “elitist.”
If Northwestern students are that disturbed at “elitism,” then they should transfer to Podunk Community College or some such non-elitist institution.

“We must abolish…”

Or you could just MYOFB.
