Boston University Creates Senior Diversity Position

“will lead BU’s drive for fairness and inclusion”

The Coronavirus pandemic has not stopped many schools from creating new diversity positions.

BU Today reports:

BU Creates Senior Diversity Post, Taps Longtime Trustee

Andrea Taylor’s parents came to Boston University because they were not allowed to attend graduate school in segregated West Virginia. Later Taylor attended BU herself, and in a 1968 protest she joined other African American students who occupied the administration building at 147 Bay State Road. By 2009 she was a Microsoft executive—and a University trustee. And now Taylor (COM’68) will lead BU’s drive for fairness and inclusion as its first senior diversity officer.

“In many ways, it’s a kind of homecoming,” says Taylor, who was born in Boston and is one of nine BU alumni in her family. “I know the community, and I’m aware of some of its history and also its challenges. And clearly, at this particular moment in the history of humankind, we are at an inflection point in that, maybe, this time we might get it right, in terms of how we need to engage in self-examination and self-reflection.”

The coronavirus pandemic has brought a broad exposure “to the inequities and disparities that people of color and poor people across the planet are facing,” Taylor says. “I think there’s a real sense that this time we can make substantive and meaningful commitments and changes in policy and practice that will improve the common good. It’s a tall order.”

She’s about 74 years old. AOC, a BU alum, will soon be seeking that position.

Virtue signaling is VERY expensive. I wonder how much BU will be spending on her and her entourage of assistants. Most schools are having to rein in their administrative bloat this year.

This whole “Diversity & Inclusion” thing is simultaneously farce and fraud (as is “systemic racism” and “White privilege”).

I graduated from BU in the late 1970’s. The student body even way back then was disproportionately (then called) “liberals” from NYC and NJ, largely Jewish red-diaper babies.

The notorious (I would say Satanic) Howard Zinn was Chair of the Political Science Department, and the red diapers followed him around much like Cultural Revolution useful idiots would have followed Mao around Tianaman Square.

At the same time, BU was (justly) proud that Martin Luther King has attended there many years before.

As the existence of AOC attests, it’s only gotten worse since I was there.

So to pretend that BU is some hotbed of “systemic racism” or “White supremacy” and needs a D&I staff is a “big lie.”

This, like “climate change” is really about fabricating a problem — a “big lie” — so as to provide a pretext for continued advancement of Cultural Marxism.

She seems to be a well-qualified hire. I think that her position makes more sense than to establish a “Center for Anti-racism” with Prof. Kendi at its helm. 1) It is difficult to have a serious academic program that is defined by being against something (Except a particle physical “Center for Anti-Matter”>) 2) Many universities have had at least one minority member in senior management since the 1970s. 3) The goal should be to find well-qualified faculty to increase minority hiring rather than a few token slots in a field that is a short-term fad. Imagine if BU was able to attract some of the best scholars in their fields, who happen to be black. BU could then increase faculty quality and address student demands at the same time. All hiring would have to be in the context of Title VII which prohibits discrimination on the basis of race. 4) There is nothing to indicated that Taylor is a cultural Marxist.

I’ve noticed that diversity, inclusion and excellence are not used in the same paragraph.

Affirmative Action is a ponzi scheme of ability. In the real world, the tasks must be completed, hiring less qualified workers must be supplemented by enough people to get the job done.

As soon as I saw “Taps Longtime Trustee,” I understood: “Will somebody get her OFF the Board?”
