Biden Calls For Nationwide Mask Mandate, Harris Calls it “Real Leadership”

This was the moment when the rise of Biden-Harris began to slow

https://youtu.be/4a7NaC8i--Q

Science. How does it even work?

Thursday afternoon, the Democrat presidential ticket suggested a nationwide mask mandate and Harris followed up by saying “that’s what real leadership looks like.”

And the speech is just awful. Exciting as dry toast.

Watch:

Joe Biden: “Let’s institute a mask mandate nationwide.”

Sen. Kamala Harris: “That’s what real leadership looks like.”

Took a little longer than I expected, but not much.

To show that Joe Biden is serious, he plans to have a mask staple-gunned to his face. /snark

It’s almost like they want to lose.

I think there are enough easily frightened people out there to buy into this sort of nonsense.

Don’t be so quick to say this slows does his campaign.

    This is absolutely the case.

It’s comparable to proclaiming that people are green to believe that Green is not green and done for the love of greenbacks at an environmentalist revival, or yelling “All Lives Matter” at a [some, select] Black Lives Matter protest, or yelling “baby” at a Planned Parenthood clinic.

      n.n in reply to n.n. | August 13, 2020 at 5:21 pm

Correction: people are green to believe that Green is so green and not done for the love of greenbacks.

Indeed. I see it with some in my own family. They are convinced Trump is somehow responsible for the violence they see and that voting for Biden will somehow miraculously restore “normalcy” (whatever that is).

No, it doesn’t make sense. But they believe it anyway because the talking heads on TV and in the papers tell them to.

MPAI – Most People Are Idiots

It’s enough to give me second thoughts about this whole democracy thing.

Did they vote for trump in 2016?

Because if they did, it would be miraculously stupid for them to believe this… will

Neither voted for Trump not Hillary! in 2016 (both voted 3rd party). Prior to the riots the husband was leaning towards Trump, but the shrew wife – a Karen’s Karen, if ever there was one – is now all-in on Biden.

Ironically both think the Communists (they still call them “Democrats”) are behind the riots (the Joseph Goebbels media has failed in clouding their judgement on that fact, at least), but weirdly they crave “normalcy” and think it will miraculously return if the Communists are given absolute power in November. They are convinced the Communists will have to compromise (with who?) and mellow out. Yep – and I am sure that Hitler was just having a little midlife crisis and should have been allowed to work it out peacefully instead of overreacting about the minor Poland incident and that little Holocaust thingy.

I recall getting into a dustup with the wife over (of all things) commercial nuclear power and how what the the Joseph Goebbels media says about it is mostly anti-scientific garbage. The wife couldn’t tell an atomic pile from a dog pile, but sneered at me constantly about my “paranoia”. I avoid her whenever possible, and NEVER talk politics or science.

Voters who are frightened by the Socialist-Democrats/MSM, lacking accurate information or just plain stupid – this is sadly very true.

I found this news story out of Wisconsin

    https://www.kansascity.com/news/nation-world/national/article244861827.html

and I thought it was so funny, I posted it on Next Door, because we’ve been talking about the local situation.

I’ll have you know there are people that think its a good idea to require people to wear masks for Zoom meetings, even if they are Zooming from home.

CorkyAgain in reply to Valerie. | August 13, 2020 at 6:42 pm

Well, if the point of mask-wearing is to signal your virtuous allegiance to the leftwing collective, it works just as well over the internet as it does in person.

When you pick someone for optics, odds are in will not prove successful.

Harris is not awe inspiring. At some point, even Biden may seem more competent than she does.

Will these two get anything right? This does not seem like a good start.

The bright side is that she garnered 2% of the primary vote before she dropped out. So she isn’t exactly an excellent campaigner and is otherwise fairly unlikable as a person. Has no principle beyond what is good for Kamala – and it is scary that the most radical Senator (by voting record) has no principles and is attempting to be the VP (and to be honest, the President if Jo and the Ho are elected).

Reporter to Biden: What proof do you have that a mask mandate will work?

Biden: The Lone Ranger wore a mask and he never caught, you know, the thing.”

Harris: (pointing to Biden as aids steady him as he sits down, wipe the drool off his chin, untangle his mask wrapped around one ear, and turn his smartphone right side up) “Now that’s what real leadership looks like!”

Watch for a very common tactic in argument:

(1) If you disagree with a statement, refuse to accept it without absolute, irrefutable proof that it’s true.

(2) If you agree with a statement, accept it on the basis of flimsy or non-existent evidence.

For example:

Masks: Some people think they might work, and that’s good enough. Therefore let’s make mask-wearing mandatory.

HCQ: Some people think HCQ might work, but we must not use a remedy without doing years of studies to prove that it’s safe and effective. Therefore, let’s ban HCQ.

At least the University of Georgia has rescinded the instruction to wear masks during sex.

2smartforlibs | August 13, 2020 at 4:21 pm

let’s see the science on this? CDC realized today it was covered on DW that your masks are serving no purpose.

Maybe Joe Biden will provide the proper protocol for the usage of face masks. When to wash your hands; how to safely handle a face mask when not on your face; how to safely place the face mask on your face; how to safely remove the face mask; how to safely store a face mask once it has been used, etc.

The publication of such information would most likely result in the refusal to face masks at all due to the hazards involved.

Yes, this is how dictatorships work. One guy at the top, calling all the shots. All that state government just adds to the cost, so lets get rid of it. One size fits all. If Seattle or Chicongo don’t need police, lets get rid of all police and there will be more goodies to give away. I guess Gropey Joe will abdicate the throne within a day/week/month and we will have Queen KAMila. At that point, is there any need for a Congress or judiciary?

slow joe’s leading from his basement and the phony from his behind

Giuliani leading NYC after 9/11.

Truman making a heartbreaking decision to end WW2, saving millions of lives in the process.

Rev. King stirring the American consciousness by “having a dream.”

Reagan defeating Communism.

Biden telling us we have to wear masks.

Yup…THAT’S leadership!

Unreasonable mask requirements are attempts at enforcing social conformity and hence submission, like shaving the heads of recruits at boot camp. It is political correctness made visible and enforceable. If we trust our fellow citizens to wear masks when appropriate., we will get better results.

Shaving heads for boot camp at one time had a sanitation purpose: recruits would come in with head lice. The easiest way to keep them from spreading through the whole camp was to shave all of their heads and make them shower with soap every day.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue to show up, from time to time.

My kids got head lice at a private school in one of the highest per-capita income counties in this country.

And if Slow Joe is always wearing a mask, we’ll never know it’s really his body double.

So, if they defund the police. Who’s gonna enforce this crap?

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to budmania. | August 13, 2020 at 5:21 pm

In at least one Midwestern state, it will be the Kansas Auxilisry Reserve Enforcement Network. KARENs.

Amazing, isn’t it? The U.S. managed to survive its entire existence, through numerous disease and flue outbreaks, without ever having implemented a mask mandate. The Dhimmi-crats are totalitarian and insane — sanctimoniously and callously destroying our economy, destroying the mental and physical well-being of millions of Americans, and destroying all sense of normalcy, all in the name of totally irrational and contrived fear.

How about some real leadership and call out the violent mobs raping, murdering, burning and looting?

Let’s face it, they are lying.

They don’t want a mask mandate, it’s just a warmup. They want everyone wearing a muzzle and gag. Who wants to hear from subjects? Subjects don’t have opinions, they just do their rulers bidding.

PS- Oh, and members of the Party will be able to take their masks off. Just like Party members could turn the TV off in 1984.

And, now, it’s forbidden by the social media giants to even share news articles on how well Sweden is doing, having rejected this idiotic, politicized panic.

Herd immunity is the only way forward, not this childish, cowed, ridiculously irrational mass quarantine.

The President doesn’t have the authority to mandate anything like that, nor should he/she. Anybody who thinks a politician in Washington DC should be making nation-wide mandates such as this is a fucking moron.

Even if we were to grant for the purpose of argument that a nationwide mask mandate would be a good idea, where would the president, either Trump or Biden, get the authority to order one?

Almost all state legislatures have made laws long ago granting their governors emergency powers, and that has been the basis on which various governors have ordered mask-wearing. There have been disputes and court cases in some states, depending on the specific wording of the state legislation, but there’s no question that state legislatures do have the authority to pass such mandates themselves, and to delegate such authority to their governors.

But where in the US constitution does it give the congress such authority? If the congress were to pass a law, and the president were to sign it, mandating masks everywhere, how would it be valid? Unlike state legislatures, the US congress’s authority is limited to its enumerated powers. And obviously whatever the congress cannot do it cannot authorize the president to do. So how could Trump order such a mandate even if he wanted to, and how would Biden, should he ever become president, be able to do so?

UserP in reply to Milhouse. | August 13, 2020 at 5:24 pm

It’s not something Biden would actually do. It’s a campaign tactic silly.

Dusty Pitts in reply to Milhouse. | August 13, 2020 at 5:26 pm

A district judge in Hawaii would find that Trump did it for the wrong reasons, but that Biden did it for noble reasons and therefore the fact he has no constitutional authority for it, is irrelevant.

I wish I were 100% kidding, but it’s only about 98% at this point, and dwindling.

Edward in reply to Milhouse. | August 13, 2020 at 5:33 pm

You know that Congress will pass a bill providing additional Medicaid money for every state which implements a mask mandate, and withhold some existing Medicaid money for those which don’t.

zennyfan in reply to Milhouse. | August 13, 2020 at 6:00 pm

Get back to us after you’ve checked with John Roberts. He’ll find an applicable exception.

CommoChief in reply to Milhouse. | August 13, 2020 at 7:27 pm

    Milhouse,

Not that I am endorsing the idea but I believe that POTUS could utilize the Federal Emergency health declaration as a vehicle. Remember the States all asked for and received a federal emergency declaration.

IMO, that’s a bad idea but since federal courts have been very indulgent and deferential to State Executives I would think that they would treat the Federal Executive similarly with respect to health related decrees.

Milhouse in reply to CommoChief. | August 14, 2020 at 11:51 am

The difference is that states have a general police power. The USA doesn’t. The USA can only do those things the constitution authorizes, while states can do pretty much anything the constitution doesn’t forbid.

CommoChief in reply to Milhouse. | August 14, 2020 at 3:23 pm

        Milhouse,

The police power of States is an excellent point, but the court’s have gone beyond that in deferring to executive actions.

In normal circumstances you are undoubtedly correct. During a declared disaster/health emergency ….. With federal courts including SCOTUS providing a level of deference not previously seen in scale to health officials/executive action…maybe but maybe not.

You could be correct. IMO it isn’t a certainty that POTUS would be stopped by these overly deferential courts.
I don’t think that POTUS should do so, just that the health emergency/disaster declarations would be the vehicle if he chooses.

Of course Congress could do it, claiming authority under the Commerce Clause. As usual. Disease affects interstate commerce, blah blah.

BierceAmbrose in reply to Milhouse. | August 13, 2020 at 10:43 pm

The commerce clause. Apparently there’s nothing it can’t do.

And any enforcement penalth is a tax, thus also legal.

Milhouse in reply to BierceAmbrose. | August 14, 2020 at 11:57 am

Only if it really is a tax, matching all the characteristics of taxes and none of those of penalties. For instance, it must be perfectly legal to choose to pay the tax instead of wearing the mask, the tax must be low enough for that to be a reasonable choice for some people, and the government must expect to actually collect revenue from it, it must be collected by the IRS rather than by some enforcement agency, and it must be levied on something Congress can tax, such as income. The 0bamacare tax passed because it fit all of these criteria.

The whole point of the decision was that the courts don’t care what Congress calls something, because Congress lies; instead the courts must look at what the thing actually is.

BierceAmbrose in reply to Milhouse. | August 15, 2020 at 7:31 am

“The whole point” of that decision was providing cover to let a pile of shenanigans stand … with more shenanigans.

At least they all with with tbeir strengths.

Milhouse, you have obviously not read Mao. All authority originates from the barrel of a gun. You think it somehow originates from a piece of paper with some words on it. How quaint.

Now be a good boy and do what they tell you. It’s OK. You will be provided gainful work and minimally sufficient caloric intake for you to complete your assignments at the labor camp. You can also rest assured that, when you die, you will be provided with a grave, because you shall be the one that digs it.

Like any good overreach, they will have to create a stick. With their pledge to force wealthy suburbs to create low income housing which Trump overturned, they will withhold all road funds unless the suburbs comply. I wonder what kind of stick Biden/Harris would find to beat us into compliance?

henrybowman in reply to Milhouse. | August 14, 2020 at 12:02 pm

General welfare. Commerce clause. International migratory birds treaty. Jus primae noctis. Bringing a gun to a mask fight. “What difference, at this point, does it make?”

BierceAmbrose in reply to Milhouse. | August 15, 2020 at 7:21 am

President Sloppy Joe would get the authoritah from his pen and phone. I’ve been informed by a presumably austere Constitional Scholar(tm) that’s all one needs.

Important update: the media forgot to mention Biden’s mandatory mask wearing exceptions. Exceptions include:
blm protestors, rioters, looters and marxist get togethers.

Kamala notes that Real Leadership makes exceptions for people who break the law.

This was the moment when the rise of Biden-Harris began to slow.

It was meteoric and glorious while it lasted.

Comanche Voter | August 13, 2020 at 6:33 pm

The masks on those two look like muzzles on a dog—and that may be appropriate.

nordic_prince | August 13, 2020 at 6:41 pm

I will just note that Slow Old Joe was pretty quick to get out of there and let Scamala Harris do all the talking.

After Democrats released how many thousands of criminals and all they had to do was give them a mask? Hell no! I sense Trump’s poll numbers rising.

Were they just baiting Trump?

Trump replied:

“He (Biden) does not identify what authority the president has to issue such a mandate or how federal law enforcement could possibly enforce it or why we would be stepping on governors throughout our country, many of whom have done a very good job and they know what is needed,”

Nice sound bite there IF they wanted to play it and then ask why he thought he had authority to issue the 4 executive orders for Covid relief and order states to pay 25% of the $400/wk benefit.

ScottTheEngineer | August 13, 2020 at 10:02 pm

https://nbc25news.com/news/local/gov-whitmer-vetoes-bill-to-preven-covid-19-patients-to-be-housed-in-nursing-homes

Need to get those death count numbers up if you’re gonna take Trump down.
This will also save millions in medicaid payments.
These people are evil.

Anyone else notice the comments sections? every article I’ve read whether it was a subject or not has a douche-canoe blaming trump for 165,000 covid deaths. 165,000 every time.

I’ve given some thought and even did a little bit of duckduckgo searching on the whole mask wearing outside thing. I do believe it to be a 100% fact that there is not a single case anywhere in the world where contact tracing has proved with certainty that a person contracted Covid while walking down the street without a mask. Yes, I know, there are all sorts of “scientists” and “experts” out there that will swear they can prove that mucous particulates, or such, can waif through the breeze and land in your unmasked mouth in amounts that could infect you and you will DIE! But I am 100% certain that they have no way to prove that it has never happened in real life. And yet the sheep comply???

Doing stuff not even remotely authorized by the Constitution — that’s Democrat leadership!

It seems to me that real leadership does not include mandating something people are capable of voluntarily doing themselves. Using force is not leadership, using sound judgement and good arugments are what leaders use.
