Trump Admin Denies Minneapolis $500m Riot Damage Bailout Request

Begun as a truly peaceful protest against the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the protests quickly devolved into riots, looting, arson . . . and, eventually, perhaps inevitably, murder.
This conflagration of lawlessness quickly morphed into a nation-wide push by various aligned Marxist and anarchist groups to destroy America, capitalism, history, our very culture and our heritage. Minnesota was ground zero for the rampaging rioting, looting, arson, vandalism, and murder spree that is still engulfing parts of our great nation.
Instead of putting a stop to the property destruction, Minnesota officials kind of shrugged indulgently, smiled benignly, and let their cities burn. Indeed, Minneapolis officials led the way on the left’s lunatic proposal to “abolish the police,” alternately called “defund the police,” and effectively had the police stand down as violence and destruction raged in their cities.
When violence occurred, Minnesota Democrats, including Gov. Tim Walz, had the audacity to blame Trump-supporting “white supremacists” and the “far right” rather than the obvious instigators, antifa. Even national Democrats and much of their media activist arm couldn’t get on board with such a ludicrous and obvious lie.
So now, their cities in smoldering ruins, guess who they want to bail them out? Yep, those nasty “white supremacist” tax payers in every state in the union. Thankfully, sanity still prevails in DC, and the Trump administration has denied their request for $500 million to fix the damage they gleefully permitted.

The federal government has denied Gov. Tim Walz’s request for aid to help rebuild and repair Twin Cities structures that were damaged in the unrest following George Floyd’s death.
Walz asked President Donald Trump to declare a “major disaster” for the state of Minnesota in his request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on July 2. More than 1,500 buildings were damaged by fires, looting and vandalism in the days of unrest that followed Floyd’s May 25 death in Minneapolis police custody, racking up more than $500 million in damages, according to Walz.
The governor’s spokesman, Teddy Tschann, confirmed late Friday that the request for federal aid was denied.
“The Governor is disappointed that the federal government declined his request for financial support,” Tschann said in a statement. “As we navigate one of the most difficult periods in our state’s history, we look for support from our federal government to help us through.”
Many small businesses and grocery stores, pharmacies and post offices were damaged during the unrest. In his letter to FEMA, Walz said what happened in the Twin Cities after Floyd’s death was the second most destructive incident of civil unrest in U.S. history, after the 1992 riots in Los Angeles.
Rep. Tom Emmer (R-MN) sent a letter to President Trump pointing out the obvious.

Tom Emmer on Thursday sent a letter to Trump in response to Walz’s aid request, asking for a “thorough and concurrent review” of the state’s response to the unrest so that “every governor, mayor and local official can learn from our experiences” and prevent such a situation from happening again.
“If the federal government is expected to assist in the clean-up of these unfortunate weeks, it has an obligation to every American — prior to the release of funding — to fully understand the events which allowed for this level of destruction to occur and ensure it never happens again,” Emmer wrote.

Well, Dictator Walz could have activated the National Guard to stop the damage from occurring in the first place. Would have been good training for them. Simple orders- Suppress the riot, Shoot to kill.

Local and state authorities are responsible for suppressing riots, and if they need it, then they can request federal help. If they let the rioters riot without consequence, the damage is on them.

You chumps in Minneapolis voted your city government in. You broke it, you own it. Why should I contribute one thin tax dime to the clusterfark you created. I’ve got the damage from my own set of clowns here in California to pay for.
There are many that were hurt that had nothing to do with the riots. Perhaps individual claims, like with 9-11, allowed, but not for public entities or large corporations, especially if they gave support to BLM. Let them lead the rebuild effort.

Trump has more backbone than most politicians. He’s warning mayors and governors that the Feds will not rescue them if they are complicit in rioting and looting. This policy will certainly apply to Seattle, Portland, New York, and other major cities.
It makes sense that our tax dollars should be used to bail them out only if they did everything in their power to prevent the destruction. As soon as they tell the police to “stand down,” they have forfeited any right to federal help.

My understanding is that in a civil suit damages can be reduced if the plaintiff failed to take reasonable steps to mitigate losses. Thus (for example) if a tenant breaks a lease, the landlord is expected to mitigate damages by making a good-faith effort to find another tenant, and damages may be reduced if the landlord fails to do so.
This is obviously not a civil suit (no one’s suing the federal gov’t for damages), but, I suspect most citizens believe a similar principle should apply: if local officials failed to mitigate damages then the rest of us should not be taxed to provide relief.
