NFL Will Play “Black National Anthem” Before Every Game During First Week of the Season

On Thursday the National Football League announced they would play the “Black national anthem” along with the national anthem prior to each game during the first week of the season.

From USA Today:

Four weeks after commissioner Roger Goodell vowed to listen to and work with players in their fight for racial equality, the NFL is in the process of solidifying plans to honor victims of systemic racism with a number of in-game programs during opening week of the 2020 season.

Starting with the nationally televised regular-season opener between the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 10, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” also known as the Black national anthem, will be performed before every Week 1 kickoff, before “The Star-Spangled Banner,” according to a person familiar with ongoing discussions. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because plans have not yet been finalized and announced by NFL officials.

Both anthems will be televised Sunday afternoon, and on “Sunday Night Football” and “Monday Night Football” contests as well. ESPN’s “Undefeated” first reported news of these plans.

The person said after brainstorming with numerous players and the NFL Players Association, NFL officials also plan to honor victims of police brutality through elements such as helmet decals or jerseys. It’s also expected that the Week 1 broadcasts will feature a number of educational PSAs about victims and their families.

Because what everyone wants after months of being locked up, watching the country ablaze thanks to the astroturfed riotous mob is more politics in their sports.

I can dig it (mostly) all the way up to the last line which goes, “May we forever stand. True to our God. True to our native land.” Mmkay… I’m assuming that “native land” is not the U.S.. Pray tell, how is this a “national” anthem when it concludes with a vow of loyalty to a place that is not America?

For those unfamiliar with Lift Up Your Voice and Sing, here you go. Lyrics and all:

I have never heard of a black national anthem, by the end of football season I will still be able to say I never heard the black national anthem.

The police could simply refuse to police during football games.

Yes, the stadiums and teams could hire more private security, but, then, they do not have qualified immunity, and no greater arrest powers than a private citizen. The potential for liability for each party, is therefore tremendous.

I will not watch. I am quite tired of multi-millionaires who make a living playing a child’s game provide me with condescending, moralistic, platitudinous sermons of pomposity. The privilege they have is quite immense, and yet they use that privilege to spit on you.

Watch college games, if you must, but tune out the NFL.

Let’s all pray for the day when all the professional football players long to play in Canada.

        Hear, hear, Brave Sir!

Perfectly put, Robbin. I, too, will avoid the Sunday games.

Beyond that, my prediction for the ballpark amount by which total revenues will be reduced for the 2020-21 NFL season is: 50%.

If realized thereabout, we’ll see how truly sanguine the owners are next season to this prudentially illicit, non-cricket mixing up of sports, politics, and that nonsense on stilts called social justice.

Watch for the attempt to federalize the NFL in 2021-22 (or even before the end of the upcoming season if revenues do fall significantly short, and for owners to consequently buck their new ownership partners, BLM and its puppet-masters, in wishing a return to the halcyon days of playing real football for really good money, for football’s own sake — especially if the nation goes statist in November and “elects” the chaos-loving Maoists — I mean Dem-Socialists — Joe & Mate, among others.

Maybe its me after watching the Bears for years but with either a penalty with the obligatory zebra convention or a replay review on every play it has become tedious and tiresome to watch and over the last 3 yrs or so i have found better things to do on Sunday.

What a bunch of clods, those poor, passive, thinking-averse automatons are. They’re exactly Lenin’s (or properly another’s) “useful idiots”. A revolution their kind takes, and makes.

A lot, too, like the Nazi’s pre- and mid-Third Reich’s SA, the so-called brownshirts, they’d be risibly dismissible if they weren’t so brutally violent and irresponsible, so threatening and inimical to our mores and institutions — let alone our monuments, businesses, lives, and entire economy.

I feel so sorry for those players. Racism is so awful and so pervasive that they are only receiving kings ransom salaries for playing a game for children.

I will consider the NFL when the league players ethnicity is reflected by the overall population. Persons of color way overreaching. There is obviously discrimination against caucasian men.

I await the roster with the representative number (based on general population figures) of Asian people weighing less than 200 lbs. Even if they use population stats of the cities that host teams, the roster of any team will have only about 30% black players, many less.

Too bad that I quit on the NFL years ago because of the kneeling and the CTD, because I can’t quit again…. can I?

What the hell is the black national anthem

BLM = burn loot murder

The United States of America had been trying and (until former President Obama) had almost reached complete integration; now, if I understand this correctly, the Afro-American community wants its own country.

Get woke. Go broke. Methinks the salary cap won’t increase much next year. Cheers –

Is there any awareness at all that the idea of a separate national anthem for black people is incredibly racist?

With a lot things you sorta forget why you stopped doing it.

With the NFL they remind me constantly why I no longer watch.

What you won’t see, the mugshots of NFL players on the video boards during that anthem, Myles Garrett ripping another players helmet off and hitting a player with it.

healthguyfsu in reply to Firewatch. | July 4, 2020 at 11:51 pm

Actually, Garrett tried to claim that the white QB called him a racial slur. However, there were refs mic’d up nearby and nothing was found…he did this, of course, to try and duck out of his indefinite suspension for being an angry thug gone hood.

Is not the playing field populated by many black millionaires? Why do I think about Aesop “The Goose and the Golden Egg?”

Sooo, black Americans don’t share in our national anthem? Are we really backsliding to “separate but equal” again?

This is clearly meant to be divisive, and it will backfire.

As usual, the lefties have it backward.

Black lives DO matter, and considering who victimizes black people the most, black communities need more and better policing, not less. I read that somebody from BLM said that being able to call the police is “white privilege.” If that’s the case, the true need is to extend that white privilege further into the black community.

More and better policing would also improve the economic situation for black communities, because businesses cannot thrive with crime.

Blacks don’t need a separate national anthem, they need to know, all the way down to their toes, that they have liberty and justice on par with everyone else, and equal rights under the laws.

This divisive nonsense is brought to us by the Party that wants to keep blacks on its welfare plantation, and bleed money that is supposed to benefit the community into their own possession. We have entire failed cities because of this corruption.

The core problem for the Party is that 40% of black voters know what DJT has been doing for them, and they approve.

Blacks, like everyone else, needs to police themselves in their own homes, their houses of worship, their community centers, and their schools. The trope of blaming one races for the failings of another is getting tiresome.

NFL, ESPN, etc., are idiots. They are doing this crap for one reason only – money. The people from the top down in these organizations want to keep their jobs so they are saying whatever they think the folks with the flaming torches, pitchforks, and nasty emails and tweets want them to say.

      Precisely.

Compete for it. Own it. Grow it. Reap it. Harness it. Use it wisely to gain personal and your community’s wealth, power, and esteem among the other competitors — then smile with humility and gratitude.

And do it all with good charity and cheer, good manners and grace.

In other words, and for goodness’ sake already, be a Mensch. You’re free to achieve just like the others, who have!

Quit losing and blaming others; it’s unmanly, unwomanly, and not what successful adults do. Join the winning crowd.

Maybe there’s only a small chance of success, but I’d hope to reason with the NFL and news media.

They should not promote the song as a “black national anthem.” No matter how much they hate America, the harmful implications should be obvious even to them:

1. A “black national anthem” means that American blacks (i.e., African-Americans, since people from India want nothing to do with it) are a separate nation within a nation.

2. Point (1) implies that Africans in America are NOT Americans.

3. Historically, countries have often applied points (1) and (2) to Jews, and as a Jewish American (note the word order) I know that the idea of a “nation within a nation” has often led to tragic results all around.

4. If “Lift Every Voice” is the Black National Anthem, then “The Star-Spangled Banner” is the White National Anthem. Do we really want to go there? CNN? NFL? Do you support that?

5. After (4) comes a separate Black flag.

Do the NFL and the news media know what often happens between groups that have separate anthems and separate flags? It would make Minneapolis seem like Pleasantville.

To globalists, that might be a feature instead of a bug. But to most of us, it’s an evil to avoid. There must be some sane people left at the NFL and at least a few decent human beings in the media. It’s time to draw a line and say, “no more.”

Bad idea. It has been so successful with North Korea for sixty five years and now Iran for a generation. Let the NFL die. And the NBA. And MLB. And the NCAA. FIFA. And the olympics. And all the rest. They’lll either die, go to the government for more support than they get already, or change. But they won’t be convinced.

A worthy tailpiece to a great analysis.

Whether as either an afterthought or a perfectly surprising conclusion, it explains brilliantly for me the entire tumultuous event we’re in. You describe the nuts and bolts of it all.

This is pandering divisiveness at its most basic level. RIP NFL. They’re going to get absolutely crushed with low ratings.

There is no such thing as a black national anthem.

Is there a Black nation?

alohahola in reply to Exiliado. | July 4, 2020 at 12:46 pm

I guess it’s this one where we live now.

True to our God, true to our native land.

The song is actually a hymn – which IMO is not scripturally sound – least ways, that last line above.

Where as a people who have come to God in Christ we are called to “come out from among them (the nations)”, to “be separate”, we are “citizens of heaven”, sons of God in Christ, heirs, residents of the kingdom of heaven, children of God, of the family of God, etc., scripture makes clear that we are NO longer of the nations.

So to say “true to our God” and to “our native land”, is a dual loyalty – a double-mindedness. It’s interesting to me that the apostle Paul, who was a Roman citizen, only called upon his citizenship to avoid a beating and to garner an audience with Caesar where he presumably shared the gospel of Christ. Otherwise and elsewhere, Paul told people who had converted to live a quiet life and to work with their hands.

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. (1 Thes 4:11 NLT)

Meditating on what the scripture says I am become in Christ, and how He would have me live, has presented a need to consider my political involvements and allegiances. Specifically, if I am called out of the nation I was born in and unto God should I still participate in political things or even vote? I’ve concluded “yes” as I’m still called to stand for righteousness and I’m given to prayer to determine the God’s will in a matter and to carry on (vote) accordingly.

Can’t say I’m a fan of that hymn; it’s at the very least conflicted.

This is the left wing racists finding more ways to divide America.
This is another made up crap, just like kwanzaa.

I was raised in Wisconsin and Lombardi, I went to the games in Milwaukee and Green Bay
I met many of the players of that era
I traveled to different cities to see games

DaveGinOly in reply to gonzotx. | July 4, 2020 at 1:02 pm

I was a fan of 40 years, and stopped watching after week 3 of the season after the kneeling started. Comments by Robt. Kraft convinced me the NFL was thoroughly compromised and not going to grow a spine.

Here’s what I’d like to see done by fans who have tickets to week 1 games: Attend. Sit for the “black national anthem,” stand for the “Star Spangled Banner.” Then walk out and never go back. You will be amazed how liberating it will be to rid your life of something that is useless.

Subotai Bahadur in reply to DaveGinOly. | July 4, 2020 at 4:34 pm

I would add only two things. Boo loudly during the “black national anthem” so that silence cannot be claimed to be consent. Sing along with the American National Anthem while standing.

      Subotai Bahadur

UJ in reply to gonzotx. | July 5, 2020 at 10:37 pm

I’m from that era too, and I suspect I share(d) a reverence for the game that is somewhat similar to yours. Seeing this stuff happen and seeing what was once a great game reduced to this level of cringe-worthy unwatchability is sort of like having a death in the family. For me, at least.

Why does the left have F up everything that’s enjoyable by inappropriately injecting race, politics and other such drivel into it? A semi-rhetorical question.

ijustwanttovote | July 4, 2020 at 12:22 pm

The NFL’s “appeal is becoming more selective”.

Segregationist George Corley Wallace would be pleased that they are going to play segregated national anthems. He would also approve of segregated locker rooms; let’s see if that is their next demand.

What is this “NFL” of which you speak?

How is the NFL going to pay out those million dollar contracts when barely anyone will be watching?

I’ve thought of the perfect defense any NFL team can deploy. As soon as the offense snaps the ball, the defense holds up an American flag before which the offense must drop to one knee, thereby ending the play. 😉

Are there any businessmen left in the NFL?

After the drop in revenues seen during the kneeling debacle, what do these owners think will happen with a “Black National Anthem”? What businessman in his right mind intentionally alienates the majority of his customer base? Sports owners have to realize that the American public does not NEED the NFL, the NBA, MLB or any other sports monopoly.

The lemming mentality is apparently alive and well in this country.

I stopped watching the NFL during the Summer of Michael Sams. He was the mediocre 7th round draft pick who came out as gay and who got cut by two different teams without playing a single regular season down.

The teams that cut Sams all made him sound the the second coming of Lawrence Taylor, and ESPN talking heads announced – in all seriousness – that he was a sure-fire Hall of Famer. No more NFL for me after watching that slobbering love over someone who eventually washed out of the CFL.

It’s sad that the NFL and so many others have chosen to be divisive, instead of uniting people.

The games have been boring as hell on tv at least for last 10 years anyway now theyre going to indoctrinate us w politics too? players will have blm stickers on uniform? sounds like a surefire recipe for failure. buh bye.

What blm NFL players should do is quit the league. Le Bron James should quit the NBA.

It’s the only thing to do – if they had integrity.

Some, select, Black Lives Matter. Diversity, including racism, sexism, etc., breeds adversity. Lose your Pro-Choice, selective, opportunistic, politically congruent (“=”) religion.

I haven’t watch the NFL for years, but the NBA has been my passion until now. Not anymore. I watched sports to get away from this leftist crap, not get inundated with it. Oh well, I’ve got a lot of cedar to clear. That’ll keep me busy on weekends.

we live in the United States–we have ONE national anthem–never heard of a black national anthem(or red, or green or blue) and couldn’t care less, even if there actually is one

you’re either an american or you’re not–for a while yet, you still have a chance to choose

choose wisely

We will skip watching NBA, NFL, Soccer and stick to watching golf and hopefully college football.

Golf was never better than when 124 white guys were chasing a black guy.

judgeroybean | July 5, 2020 at 12:47 am

No one I know can name a single NFL player. Dumb asses effed themselves.

I can’t WAIT to see the first white player to take a knee for that.

As if I needed another reason to hate the NFL! I haven’t watched since they first started the kneeling crap.

I will watch the NFL and listen to the black national anthem as soon as the NFL starts enforcing affirmative action for whites in the league. It seems that blacks are very much over represented and this, according to the Left, is simply not fair. (If it applies for blacks in jobs all over the country, then it should apply equally for whites in footballs, basketball, and other areas where black are over represented.)

True to our native land

This lyric is interesting. Note the current progressive zeitgeist is that this can’t be the native land for whites, as whites are evil colonizers. So why the heck do blacks get to claim this as their native land?

Now that the NFL, NBA and other sports leagues have decided to convert to non-profit organizations like CNN, the players will have to give up their dreams of becoming billionaires. Kaepernick will go down as the last sports billionaire.

Once it is reduced to playing “for the love of the game” in empty stadiums, they will be kneeling for a different reason. The new American Dream of equality and social justice. Ironically, there will be some justice in this. Unfortunately, having destroyed the world’s last hope for freedom, that “shining city on the hill”, there will be nowhere to run.

One more stake in the heart of the nfl and one more reason to not watch.

Voice_of_Reason | July 5, 2020 at 9:34 pm

What is a “black national anthem”, is that an anthem for a black segregationist movement??

Maybe it’s just me, but isn’t this whole racial schism, embryonic but long-latent nationhood thing beginning to resemble, in tone and tenor, the emergence of a purported, “river-to-sea,” Palestinian state instead of and in Israel, pre-1967?

Yes? Finding this so, actually, I don’t have any trouble seeing the common ideological, klepto-plutocratic, corruption-feeding threads between the two “nationalities”.

I actually like the song. It’s celebrating their ascension from slavery to freedom.

Which leads to the inevitable question: Why are they complaining now? They got what their ancestors dreamed.

I don’t take the “native land” line the way you did. Perhaps blacks take it to mean Africa, but I don’t. What is one’s “native land”? It’s where you’re born. Black Americans, in my humble opinion, are Americans who happen to be black. The vast majority of blacks that I know and associate with live this way. They would no more consider moving to Africa than they would moving to China. Even the ones I know who truly believe there is systemic racism in the US still consider themselves Americans and wouldn’t live anywhere else.

Granted, my perspective may very well be skewed. I spent a lot of time in the military and live in a military town so the blacks I know may not be a representative sampling; I could be wrong, but I don’t take offense at the last line, their native land is the same as mine, no matter where our ancestors hailed from.

One other thing: This song is a hymn and explicitly mentions God. How many NFL games will this song be played at before another faction of the left goes ballistic over it?
