European Mainstream Media Outraged by Trump’s Mount Rushmore Speech

European Mainstream Media Outraged by Trump’s Mount Rushmore Speech

Germany’s Der Spiegel: Trump uses speech to “stress the superiority of his country.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94E9zDtGOg4&t=29s

European mainstream media were united in their condemnation of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Fourth of July speech at Mount Rushmore. The coverage in the mainstream German, French, and British news outlets echoed each other, describing the speech as ‘dark,’ ‘polarizing,’ and ‘divisive.’

Liberal European commentators wrote glowingly about the protest movement led by the far-left Antifa and Black Lives Matter and accused the U.S. president of ‘enflaming’ the situation with his ‘fiery’ rhetoric. “Trump used Independence Day speech to divide the nation,” claimed the headline in Germany’s most-read newspaper Die Welt.

Accusing the U.S. president of having “no sense of tradition,” the German newspaper commented:

…Trump, a disruptive president, never had any regard for tradition, let alone non-partisanship. With the November 3 presidential election coming ever closer and his poll number droppinh further, he sticks steadfast to his “Trump First” campaign.

The speech on this July 4th was another sad high point. Instead of uniting the country, Trump is sowing division. Instead of promoting consensus on the Independence Day, he is widening the political divides. (Translated by the author)

German state broadcaster ARD reported the speech under the gloomy headline: “Dark Message from South Dakota.”

“America in middle of a Culture War (“Kulturkampf”). It was a bleak scenario that President Donald Trump painted at the foot of Mount Rushmore,” the state-run broadcaster commented.

German newspaper Die Süddeutsche Zeitung reported the speech with the headline: “Trump’s divisive words on national holiday.” Decrying his rhetoric as partisan, the newspaper wrote: “These are not the words which other presidents usually utter on a traditionally unpolitical national day.”

“President used the speech to deliver a sweeping blow to his enemies,” was the verdict of the German weekly Die Zeit. Trump “used the Independence Day speech for usual dark and polarizing message,” the magazine added.

Trump used the ceremony to “stress the superiority of his country,” German weekly Der Spiegel complained. “Donald Trump makes a speech that further divides the ‘the most magnificent country in the history of the world’,” the magazine ironically added.

Notwithstanding the coronavirus crisis, and the nationwide protests against racism and police violence, [Trump] described the U.S. as the “the most magnificent country in the history of the world.” Trump delivered an explosive payload of polarizing message to this supporters: according to him a “merciless campaign to erase history” is underway.

Trump’s accusations against the participants of the [BLM] protests are not new: at Mount Rushmore they were particularly harsh. (Der Spiegel, July 5; Translated by the author)

German state broadcaster Deutsche Welle was upbeat about the election prospects of the presumptive Democratic challenger, Joe Biden. “One thing, however, is clear: 2020 is not 2016,” the broadcaster claimed on Saturday. “Trump’s opponent isn’t Hillary Clinton but Joe Biden, and a broad swath of the US electorate finds him much more appealing than Clinton, whom many despised.”

“U.S. marks polarized July 4 as Trump vows to defeat ‘radical left’ protesters,” the French TV network France24 lamented. Trump “accused “angry mobs” of trying to erase history and painted himself as a bulwark against left-wing extremism,” tne cable network added.

“US president enflames national tensions with attack on ‘leftwing revolution’,” leftist British newspaper The Guardian complained. Trump “offered little by way of reconciliation” and “has shown no sign of embracing the public mood,” the newspaper remarked, referring to the Black Live Matters movement.

“The US president defended the symbolism of statues and monuments before a packed crowd at an event that revelled in political incorrectness calculated to enflame the country’s current divisions and enrage liberal critics,” The Guardian further added.

The UK daily Independent called it “a dark and divisive Independence Day speech.” The U.S. President invoked “his dark vision of an America under siege” and “heightened his law-and-order threats against Americans demonstrating against racial injustice,” the paper concluded.

“Donald Trump’s sermon by the mount fires up only a faithful few,” The Sunday Times concluded. The speech was “a defiant and jingoistic Independence Day oration” in which Trump “declared his own grand civilisational struggle: a culture war against the American left.”

Liberal commentators across Europe are pinning all their hopes on the poll numbers, praying for a Biden victory in the 2020 election. Having watched their dreams of a congressional impeachment dashed, they are desperate for a change in the White House. The prospect of four more years of a Trump presidency is an unbearable one for Europe’s ruling political and chattering class. Germany’s state-owned  Deutsche Welle summed up this desperation in 2018 when its asked: “How much more Trump must we endure?”

So the European press also get the 4 a.m. talking points.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital | July 5, 2020 at 2:06 pm

PU….uh…..EU can not handle the truth so the soil their pants like a 2 year old?

That’s a good thing!

So you’re saying the European propagandists joined the pile-on of the American ones?

What a surprise.

I have made it through my life not giving a shit what European governments think of America. With a little luck they won’t start another world war

    JusticeDelivered in reply to Gersh204. | July 5, 2020 at 3:18 pm

Well, their barbarin Muslim successors probably will start a war, and we might have to vaporise them collectively.

Meanwhile, the sainted Obama, who made a sweeping, obnoxious, prejudiced, presumptuous and patently unfair denigration of millions of decent, hard-working rural Americans as alleged “bitter clingers” holding alleged “antipathy” towards people “who don’t look like them,” is deified by Europeans, chiefly because his morally bankrupt, feckless, narcissistic, self-reverential faux posture of humility — which is actually pathological narcissism, personified — mirrors the personas of Europe’s elites.

He also “organized” there in 2007. I remember being accosted in London by Americans asking me if I was registered to vote and would I like to sign up. I was a Democrat back then and felt this was a little too creepy. So much so that it turned me off from voting for him.

comments on Die Welt article nailed the author for posting an opinion, seems many of them went and read the actual speech.
good on them.

I find the comments section in Der Spiegel and Die Welt very refreshing. Readers are willing to challenge the narrative.

These outlets often close the comments section on some articles (often on climate change, immigration, Jihad). That says a lot.

Check out Mlive dipshit’s explaination of why he and the rest of Mlive’s 10th raters think that they are handing down tablets to the peons.

From day one, Mlive was bush league.

The author, John Hiner [email protected], simply could not deal with all the constructive criticism they were getting.

They kept shoveling shit on readers, mostly black PC shit.

Flint’s water crisis was self inflicted, in that they collected water maintenance fees for decades, and spent most of it on other stuff.

My, and hoards of others reaction to their Flint water propaganda was to cancel print subscriptions.

They systematically tried silence critics. We created aliases, and we blocked much of their online advertising. When they ended comments, there was no reason to allow any advertising.

Mlive is circling the drain, their ultimate bankruptcy will be gratifying, and like so many others, I am preparing to leave Michigan.

Grew up at Melbourne & Welch and Dort Hwy & Lippincot in Flint. Driven through a few times. Melbourne north of Welch looks like a nature trail. The houses are few. Sidewalks have been heaved out by neglect. Was such a pretty neighborhood in my youth. CKLW rules the airwaves then. Paramount Potato Chip factory along with BuickTown’s legend…gone.

The Las Republican mayor left office in ‘61 + – a year or 2.

Remind me again why I give a good Gxd Damn about what the EU thinks?

Next time you guys get yourself in another war, don’t call us.

Europeans never believed in American exceptionism, though received the rewards of it many times.

Actually, it the reverse. They KNOW we are exceptional and have been from the get go. The average 18th/19th Century American was a couple inches taller than his European cousin. Wealthier, healthier and better fed.

    Then WWI, WWII.

We were there cast offs and we far surpassed them. It grated then and it grates now.

Americans don’t favor rioters and criminals who complain about the police arresting them. Claiming that systemic racism is responsible for blacks being arrested is a lie. The claim that Floyd was killed by the police is also a lie. He died of a heart attack caused by the meth+fentanyl he took, the stress of resisting arrest and his poor health. Dems need blacks to be angry because that makes them susceptible to the lies their Dear Leaders tell them. Their Dear Leader, Biden, is following in the footsteps of Obama who lied his way into power using lies about Trayvon and Zimmerman. Along with Hitler who lied his way into power using lies about Jews.

President Trump, please remove the remaining troops and equipment from any EU country that denigrates the country that saved them repeatedly in the last century.

lichau in reply to Barry. | July 5, 2020 at 3:35 pm

President Trump, please remove ALL troops from Europe. Aside from honor guards at military cemeteries.

How long do we have to pay for winning that war?

Bon Hagar in reply to Barry. | July 6, 2020 at 7:19 am

President Trump has called for troop reductions there & German local gov’t bitched like it was the Pentagon calling for a regional military base closings. Germany has to remember America is there to protect American interests, not Germany’s. They’re buying into Russia’s, uh, Putin’s energy development. The Germans should go ahead and make that investment since they can field an army, Air Force and navy (not really). That will work out so well for them. The invading Syrians can become German ground forces. They have great healthcare, right?

The left using the devisive tact again. You do it our way or you’re being devisive. I am 100% okay with being separated from your marxist ways so get the hell out of here.

They Lie, They Omit, And They Distort Everything. They do not report the news, they spew leftist propaganda. Everything they do is dishonest, everything they do is against American interests.

So Trump was right over the target “over there” as well! Good aim.

Where would we be without the European Mainstream Media illuminating our way? Lost, no doubt.

The Euros need to worry more about the arabs overtaking what is left of their culture

“…Trump, a disruptive president, never had any regard for tradition.” The precise reason that he was elected!

CapeBuffalo in reply to MarkS. | July 5, 2020 at 7:56 pm

MarkS, how true, Trump triumphed over the “traditional” lies and deceit of the ruling class. BUT, he is now the main defender of our American traditions that are the underpinnings of our culture.

This is a useful example of what the Left is looking at when they describe Trump as “dark and divisive”, “pandering to white supremacism”, “racist”, etc.

It’s always a good idea to find out how such language “cashes out” in concrete reality. When you do that, you’ll find that in almost if not every case, what the Left is condemning with this rhetoric is actually as unobjectionable as what Trump is saying in this speech.

“Germany’s Der Spiegel: Trump uses speech to “stress the superiority of his country.””

Hey at least we didn’t murder millions of Jews.

CapeBuffalo in reply to FOAF. | July 5, 2020 at 4:53 pm

FOAF, thank you. History means nothing if it is ignored, forgotten, obscured, distorted, distracted or destroyed, all the tools of the Left as we have seen so graphically displayed recently.

CorkyAgain in reply to FOAF. | July 5, 2020 at 5:12 pm

In a way, that’s blowback from our own ceaseless efforts to convince the Germans that they’re guilty of the sin of thinking themselves the Master Race.

We’ve succeeded so well in convincing them that it’s the one most unforgivable sin and that it must be stamped out wherever it begins to sprout, that they look for it everywhere — including (and perhaps especially) among their accusers.

It’s similar, I suppose, to the way our rhetoric about all men being created equal has come back to haunt us from the black community.

(In both cases, I think the blowback is based on a serious misunderstanding of what we were saying. Nationalism is not supremacism, and equality before the law and as created in the image of God is not equal outcomes regardless of effort or merit.)

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to FOAF. | July 6, 2020 at 6:18 am

… and Slavs and homosexuals and Poles and the crippled and the mental cases and and and…

It’s not a coincidence that the Associated Press here in the US had the same take as their fellow travelers at Die Welt summarizing Trump’s speech as “dark and divisive.”

They need to look inward to their inner diversitist, including sponsoring Catastrophic Anthropogenic Immigration Reform (CAIR) a.k.a. “refugees welcome” forced by Obama’s social justice-mongering (i.e. elective regime changes, wars, abortion zones, witch trials, trail of tears) in the Iraq War 2.0 or the Greater Middle East Wars.

Meanwhile…

Exactly. The incident is not politically congruent (“=”) and will not be exploited for leverage by the diversitists.

A 1/2 American, White Black “neo-Nazi”, who was trapped in an abortion-zone setup by some, select, Black Lives Matter activists, forced to knock down a couple of “protestors” in order to escape the mob. Charlottesville 2.0. is the evolution of the 1.0 incident.

Pres. Trump’s speech is described as “dark” and divisive because he accurately identifies America’s enemies, both without and within. They don’t like that. The wicked think the truth is hard.

I watched the full speech and then read the transcript. If you take that speech as “dark” then I’d assume you know little about pride and hope.

    drednicolson in reply to WillS68. | July 5, 2020 at 5:50 pm

The proud and hopeful won’t submit to the glorious [gas]light of the Revolution. Hence those qualities being insistently labelled as “dark”.

Germany’s Der Spiegel: Trump uses speech to “stress the superiority of his country.”

Since we’ve defeated Germany twice in world wars and today’s German air force consists primarily of balsa model planes, I’d say we have a superior country. It’s not bragging if it’s true.

I don’t know, I think we should have left Europe under the rule of Hitler and the Nazis. It’s not like the average American was clamoring to fight overseas given FDR’s false promise to keep us out of it.

The Europeans never seem grateful. Better yet, maybe we should have left them to tender jackboot of a Stalin.

Dusty Pitts | July 5, 2020 at 8:02 pm

“How dare those jeengoeesteec Yankees elect a president who theenks Amereeca is superior to our magnificent Europa!?”

He only stressed the superiority of our country because it IS superior in many, many ways. Next question.

In terms that the Deutsche dummkopfs can understand “Leck mich am arse”. And for the Frenchies “bite me”.

These guys have been free riding on us for 75 years now–time for them to carry their own water.

Well yes, we are superior. At least until the Democrats get their way.

If the Euro-leftists didn’t like the speech, Trump must have been saying the right things. I can say after watching and listening to it, it was one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard delivered by a POTUS in my lifetime.
America, Love it or leave it!

The Left – Burn it all down! The Police are finished! Destroy the history of this horrible country!
Donald Trump – I think America is a great nation.
The Left – TRUMP IS TRYING TO DIVIDE THIS COUNTRY!!!!

Oh no! The Euro press is outraged! Whatever shall we do?

Pfffffft. Nothing, that’s what. Their pointless lapdog yapping means less than a hummingbird’s fart in the scheme of things.

“Liberal European commentators wrote glowingly about the protest movement led by the far-left Antifa and Black Lives Matter and accused the U.S. president of ‘enflaming’ the situation with his ‘fiery’ rhetoric.”

Profa and Burn Loot Murder are their heroes. Something is wrong.

Our president speaks glowingly of our country on a day celebrating said country’s independence. And that is enflaming, fiery, dark and divisive according to the euro puppies.

Shaddap already. Go pay attention to your disintegrating ponzi scheme for morons, aka the EU, leave the reasonably effective governing to the people in North America.

How do you say “preening eurotard jackasses” in Esperanto?

We beat the nasty Krauts in 2 wars. Of course their mad at us
