Bed and Breakfast Removes Norwegian Flag After People Confuse it With Confederate Battle Flag

“What we’re getting is so much more negative now,” she said. “It’s not just, ‘hey you’re flying the Confederate flag.’ It’s, ‘you should be ashamed to fly the Confederate flag. You’re a bigot because you fly the Confederate flag.‘”

You want to know why we have an electoral college? Because the founders knew there would be people who wouldn’t bother to distinguish between flags and that those same people would claim we live in a democracy, and then vote.

This one comes from today’s “I literally can’t even” file.

In Michigan, Greg and Kjersten Offbecker have removed the Norwegian flag flying outside of their bed and breakfast, the Nordic Pineapple. The couple purchased the historic mansion two years ago and converted it to a bed and breakfast. They’ve flown the Norwegian flag along with the American flag out front.

Unfortunately, (and because our public education system is mostly hot, stinky garbage), the Offbecker’s have removed the Norwegian flag as far too many people have confused it with the Confederate Battle Flag (which is also not the same as the flag of the Confederacy).

Watch:

From local news:

Greg and Kjersten Offbecker moved into the historic mansion two years ago and turned it into a bed and breakfast. As decoration, they hung a Norwegian flag next to the American flag at the front entrance of the inn, but dozens of guests and people driving by have accused the couple of flying a Confederate flag.

“They are the same color, but there are no stars on the Norwegian flag, and the Confederate flag is a big ‘x’ and the Norwegian flag is part of the Nordic countries, they’re all crosses,” Offbecker said.

Last week, the couple decided to remove the flag as they were updating their marketing materials.

“We started to have this concern that it was deterring people away from coming to our bed and breakfast,” Offbecker said. “That they would see it and make this judgement.”

Offbecker said she was trying to represent her heritage, but it’s not worth the frustration. She said they have received cruel emails and phone calls over the confusion of the flag.

“What we’re getting is so much more negative now,” she said. “It’s not just, ‘hey you’re flying the Confederate flag.’ It’s, ‘you should be ashamed to fly the Confederate flag. You’re a bigot because you fly the Confederate flag.‘”

Some people are even convinced the home was built by Confederate leaders. In fact, it was built by union workers for the daughter of the Saint Johns founder.

This is a Confederate battle flag (or you can ask Rick Wilson about his cooler).

This is not.

The lumpen left.

When an SJW is trolling for opportunities to virtue signal, there’s no time for research. Research leads to discovery which leads to knowledge which would upset the apple cart.

Research harshes the narrative. Better to emote by reflex and then move on before anyone takes a closer look.

Dantzig93101 | July 29, 2020 at 7:14 pm

We should stop allowing ignorance, illiteracy, and emotion to dictate what people can do and say.

We should give our support to the Offbeckers, and we should do so enthusiastically, not in any niggardly way. Anyone who feels otherwise should look it up.

Diversitists will exercise liberal license to indulge color judgments (“warlock judgments”). The flag was cancelled… removed following a witch trial.

NavyMustang | July 29, 2020 at 7:28 pm

Half our problem is that so many today are mind bogglingly stupid.

I find this particularly humorous, because the purpose of flags is to make distinctions between people and nations, so they can be told apart in battle and in peace time. Now flags are confusing people (idiots, mostly), believing they know one flag from another.

Maybe we should bring back the job of “herald.” One can be posted wherever there’s a flag, so he or she is ready to identify the flag for passers-by.

Knowing that the public school system is “hot, stinky garbage,” why are we so quick to demand that schools open back up in the fall? Why do we continue to allow our children to be brainwashed by these Marxist ignoramuses? Yes, sacrifices may have to be made, but aren’t your kids worth giving up the “free” babysitting?

2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.

Stop the ridiculousness.

Who among us hasn’t confused our flag with that of Greece?

Looks like Greece only has four states.

Stupid is as stupid does

“Stupidity cannot be cured with money, or through education, or by legislation. Stupidity is not a sin, the victim can’t help being stupid. But stupidity is the only universal capital crime; the sentence is death, there is no appeal and execution is carried out automatically and without pity.”

Being a fool is worse than being unintelligent. Highly intelligent fools have done almost infinitely more damage than stupid people.

High IQ does not mean common sense, in that IQ is only one measure of a person’s capabilities. IQ and good character are different issues. I have known people with very high IQ who were incapable of empathy, who were dishonest. I have also known people with high IQ who completely lacked ambition, and their intellect was totally wasted.

nordic_prince | July 29, 2020 at 8:06 pm

I believe it, unfortunately. When I was in college some 30 years ago, I had a Norwegian flag hanging in my dorm window. There was at least one idiot who wondered why I was displaying a stars & bars.

    nordic_prince

I’m curious, what did you say to people who were this stupid ?

    Were you nice?
“Sorry, you are mistaken…Let me educate you.”

Or did you answer them like I would have ?
“Hey, you dumb-ass… That’s not the Rebel flag !!!”
“It’s a Norwegian flag…Have you always been this stupid ?”
    “Holy Crap…!!!!”

Lincoln wrote that it is better to be thought a fool then to speak and remove all doubt. Let’s see… niggardly, homophone, Guam as an island tipping over, Mars landers transmitting pictures of the Apollo landing sites and now this… it unmasks their ignorance and poor education. As Jefferson said… a nation cannot remain both free and ignorant. At least this latest complainant isn’t color blind.

nordic_prince | July 29, 2020 at 8:14 pm

I would not have caved to the morons, but that’s just me. Easy enough to say when I don’t have to deal with the ignorant vitriol on a daily basis, I guess.

You can order a Confederate Battle Flag mask off the internet. It’s about $20.

Appalled at the nosy ignorance and criminality. I was concerned about this and am still concerned about worse to come. Imagine the events and general condition of our relations when we’ll be forced to anticipate the worst.

At this rate, I give the worse 3 months; if Trump wins, the worst is on the way. That’s when the social fabric starts to substantially disintegrate and self defense gets really dicey, critical, and necessary, probably with the aid of the National Guard or more, the regular Army.

Sooner or later, Soros et al, somehow, on some legal basis, will have to be stopped. He and the other power players behind the scenes get too much protection in the trenches, where push comes to shove, such as at this Norwegian-American couple’s home, from his little bully-punks and the politicians, including, DAs, who owe him their current and future political careers. They are the real, motive force powering and delivering the present and later damage and social disintegration.

One day, we may have to cross a certain river to the other side, and that’s when the fight begins. The smarter, the stronger, and the more righteous, those with the most to lose, will prevail.

I just learned on another comment thread that, being White (how racist of me with the capital letters). So I am not allowed to form an opinion.

But if I were to form an opinion it would be on what level of Hell does this make sense.

LukeHandCool | July 29, 2020 at 8:25 pm

They should take a cue from the “Far Side” and paint “Norweigian Flag” on the flag.

What the hell is wrong with this couple?

The cartoon makes a point, in addition to humoring me well.

It’s the Mob’s will to fear and to hate that exceeds its will to learn and to understand something different, something outside its group-reinforced, culture/Culture-made cocoon — something out there, in the real world.

It’s hard to do because it risks losing one’s confidence, one’s security, and one’s power, all adding up to the risk of losing one’s knowledge by experience of oneself.

The present case, and so many others like it, indicates the will to learn and understand the other is disappearing fast. Maybe its disappearance can be explained as the peril of developing into an ethnic narcissist during recent American times.

The causes are well known, and if we’re to survive our nation’s current social plight, the causes must be modified or replaced, whichever is needed, to treat the affliction.

All good intentions, among many more from others; they need sound ways to be implemented, if they’re even wanted. Frankly, I don’t see much of a chance these days of that happening.

    Hold on anyway.

Here is a thought experiment. The swastika is a sacred Hindu symbol. Communists are gleefully into “punch a Nazi” at every opportunity.

So if a Communist beats up a Hindu, would the Joseph Goebbels media label it a “mostly peaceful protest against racism that intensified”, or a “hate crime committed by White supremacists” that are mysteriously never found? Or maybe both?

The Friendly Grizzly | July 29, 2020 at 8:33 pm

What I want to know is: when will people stop backing down. “Your flag offends me!” “And…?” “That flag reminds me of the Confederate flag!” “Then, you are either achingly ignorant, or like to cry wolf!”

Agreed, in principle. Trouble is, and you probably know this, the degree of dumb and stupid out there is so bad, there’s just no interest in, no sense of any duty on the d/s one’s part to 1) take what you said as good info to wise up by, and 2) not be offended and felt talked down to because, say, of what you look like, ie, your neatly pegged and placed identity in the listener’s mind.

It’s definitely all too ridiculous to be real; again, trouble is, it’s real. And for me, FG, that’s the hardest thing of all to believe these days!

We unwokes just might be, in either a classic or unique sort of way, in the same general space but at different times, a stranger in a stranger land.

GatorGuy in reply to JohnC. | July 30, 2020 at 10:50 am

Right, and understandably so. It’s awfully complex and challenging, and getting increasingly impossible to be the Menschen we want, and by our individual nature and delights, need to be.

The time to pack up the human mode of being, the Mensch shtick, is fast arriving. We must prioritize, to be sure, and charity and righteousness need to be the first to go.

What could sadden more? the decent among us night ask, lamenting.

Nature sure is rolling her dice. We gotta play the game.

There are several expressions to use in dealing with people like this:

“Shut up”
“Get lost”
“Go to hell”
“Get a life”
“Stick it up your ass”

And the like.
Use them often.

Morons. This country may already be screwed if this reflects the average level of “intelligence” out there these days. Yikes.

I’m waiting for the morons to confuse the union jack for the stars and bars.

GatorGuy in reply to Ferfuggs eggs. | July 29, 2020 at 11:36 pm

A real risky mix-up, waiting to be confused by a micro-aggressed true believer, possibly leading to incivility or worse, exists between the CSA’s Ss & Bs & the UK’s crossed bars and more.

The recent, seemingly increased disinterest to the normal cognitive activity to distinguish A from B — it requires judging, of course, a task of the psyche or soul many are loathe to do — could be related, in good measure, to the new societal tolerance to using THC, however consumed. Drugs certainly work, and obviously not always for the better.

GatorGuy in reply to GatorGuy. | July 29, 2020 at 11:49 pm

Whoa, I just realized what you meant you meant by what you clearly stated. It’s late, I got the union jack confused with the UK’s naval ensign, which includes the same essential but compartmentalized design as the one-field union jack, of course. My bad.

GatorGuy in reply to Ferfuggs eggs. | July 29, 2020 at 11:51 pm

My expectation as well! It’ll make them loopy-annoyed, and quick.

FWIW the Stars and Bars is/was the Confederate First National flag–think the Georgia State Flag without the Georgia state seal (shhh, don’t tell anyone).

Oh yes, yum! In my family we called it gaffelbitar, which translates literally as “fork-bites”.

A typical snack between Christmas and New Year was usually some gaffelbitar, a slice of Bond Ost cheese (the version with caraway seeds), and knackebrod.

Lotta good Omega-3s, too! I’ll take a Vita-like version, in cream sauce, and on small pumpernickel, please; and, hey, thanks.

Well, anyway, Norway is (or was) a quintessentially white nation and therefore “racist”.

They DO have a high level of antisemitism, but then again, it’s Europe.

Yeah, Friendly Grizz, you got that right.

I could just imagine the conversations (over herring bits on pumpernickel and, of course, a small glass, say, of almond-flavored Punsch) now in Oslo as power principals there play in their minds with ideas along the lines of . . .

If you liked the Nobel Peace Prize Selection Committee’s choice of Yasser Arafat (but along with those damn Israeli Jews, then, Rabin and Peres), a few years back, why, you’ll just love the organization we definitely have in mind for the next era of peace within a bold and daring vision for the future. In fact, a past Prize recipient, President Obama, fully endorses the selection of — BLM! That’ll take some of the wind out of the sails of those damn Jews!

GatorGuy in reply to GatorGuy. | July 30, 2020 at 12:20 pm

At the same time, since national, especially governmental power players, but especially more family-oriented, loving and kind countryfolk, surely and universally come in various stripes and flavors, the circle of mostly Norwegian- (and some Danish-) Americans my wife (at the time) and I became close to years back were nothing of the sort I illustrated earlier (for certain, undeniably valid, geopolitical purposes). They were a generally warm and quite decent bunch. We all grew from the experience.

I say this believing and knowing — and inspired by Viktor Frankl’s post-atrocity manual, Man’s Search for Meaning, relating in it his near-ineffable Holocaust experiences — that, in his and (since reading his book) my own, adapted, dichotomously simplified view, there are basically two kinds of people in the world: the decent and the indecent.

A final point, if I may, about this remarkable person. The world-renown Austrian neuropsychiatrist and trained philosopher, Dr Frankl sought and taught balance and meaning in human life, to such an extent that “Viktor Frankl often emphasi[z]ed the importance of responsibility in conjunction with personal freedom. To illustrate his point he often recommended that the ‘Statue of Liberty’ on the East Coast of the United States be complemented by a ‘Statue of Responsibility'[] on the West Coast.”

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Frankl

That sense of countervailingly appreciating one’s freedom, offset by the appreciation of knowing that if no responsible conduct, then no true freedom, only license, adding to one’s personal and direct understanding of it, is a predicate for my kind of (less and less frequently encountered American) human being, a decent one.

Decency stems, I thus surmise, from a deeply understood awareness of one’s limited forces and their effects. It’s what Dirty Harry understood well: “A [person’s] got to know [his or her] limits.”

The thing is most Norwegians have never met a Jew.

My best source on this is Wikipedia. So feel free to call B.S. I may very well be full of crap. But on the other hand I spent many summers in an unincorporated village in the Santa Cruz mountains called Sveadal.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sveadal,_California

Not Norwegian. Swedish. Close enough for government work.

Gawd. Those Scandinavian women were smoking hot. And the amazing thing, from my perspective, is they were incredibly tolerant of this southern Italian greaseball.

Sveadal is my idea of heaven.

Dhimmi-crats are infantile, stupid and bullying totalitarian fools. More proof abounds in this incident, as if more were needed, on this score.

Why must we continue to indulge the ignorant and the insane?

Large Problem: these fools/tools will continue to breed and will demonstrate their stupidity without any awareness. They are literally too dumb to know better.

We are awash in a sea of morons.

The U.S. isn’t running out of petroleum. Every time the libs claim we are running out the technology keeps improving. We keep finding more, and it becomes more cost effective to extract it.

We have timber. We’re not going to run out of that either. I can’t think of a single natural resource we are in danger of running out of.

Unfortunately one natural resource America is lousy in is idiots.

And the thing is you can prove they’re wrong. And they don’t care. Which is what makes them idiots.

I remember Charles Johnsonhead of Little Green Foosballs claiming a flag at a Tea Party rally was that of a South African white-separatist party.

It was obviously (to everyone but the deranged) the state flag of Tennessee.

This reminds me of the uproar created when a journalist(I use the term loosely.) Saw a photo of miners and thought it was blackface. He never backed down from his outrage because you know coal miners clearly should have been able to control their appearance after a day in the mine. It seems to boil down to myopic world views and utter failure to learn.

I’m impressed. When I learned Japanese I forgot every other language I ever learned.

The only Swedish I remain confident in is “what’s your name?” “Var hedet du?” I’m not confident in “she has a nice butt.” Because she and he in Swedish are too close. “Hun har snug rumpa.” Or “han har snug rumpa.”

    I no longer know.

Japanese is a hard language to learn.
