Cal State System Will Not Reopen in the Fall

It’ll be fascinating to see how students react this fall when some schools open and others don’t.

California’s state university system, the largest in the United States, canceled classes on Tuesday for the fall semester because of the coronavirus, while Los Angeles County said its stay-at-home order was likely to be extended by three months.
The announcements on the West Coast came after the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, told Congress that lifting the sweeping lockdowns could touch off new outbreaks of the illness, which has killed nearly 81,000 Americans and devastated the economy.
In one of the first indications the pandemic will continue to have a significant impact into autumn, the chancellor of California State University said classes at its 23 campuses would be canceled for the semester that begins in September, with instruction moved online.
“Our university, when open without restrictions and fully in person, as is the traditional norm of the past, is a place where over 500,000 people come together in close and vibrant proximity with each other on a daily basis,” the chancellor, Timothy White, said in a statement.
“That approach, sadly, just isn’t in the cards now.”

University of California (UC) is distinct from CSU.
Great! Maybe they can take the time to convert it to a real educational system, with real qualified professors and administrators that concentrate on education instead of social nonsense!
Sadly, the same irrational extremists that took over the K12 system have just about completed their control of higher education, so the likelyhood of significant positive reform is fairly low.
And… the taxpayers will see a tax cut never.
The longer they stay online only, the more time their customer base will have to explore alternatives.
California seems really, really determined to destroy itself just to spite Trump, doesn’t it?
I love the hedge words. “Could”. If he really thought the science was on his side he would have said “will”. Note also how “illness” is conflated with “death”. Outside of the elderly there’s little reason to be concerned about “outbreaks”.
That number is a big fat lie, and no, it was the lockdown that devastated the economy.
Who was looking for something like this last week?

All of this for a virus that has a survivability rate of over 99.5%.
Thousands of California students will be protected at least for another semester from exposure to red propaganda. One of the few advantages of on-line education is that it makes too publicly visible the more blatant professorial indoctrination rampant in the class room.
