Study: Men refusing to wear masks = ‘toxic masculinity’ and racism
A new study out of Middlesex University London and Berkeley’s Mathematical Science Research Institute shows that men are less likely than women to wear a coronavirus-preventing mask.
Reasons for this include men believing they won’t catch the disease, and that masks are “shameful, not cool [and] a sign of weakness,” according to Yahoo! News.
Sociologists have (in a word the mainstream media likes a lot, especially with conservatives) seized upon the research to excoriate so-called “toxic masculinity” and even racism.
Cal State Fullerton’s Matt Englar-Carlson, director of that university’s Center for Boys and Men, says “masks are just the latest iteration of a longstanding issue.” There are “many aspects of masculinity,” he adds, but this instance appears to fall under “toxic.”
“Men tend to engage in more risk-taking behavior, and not wearing a mask or downplaying the risk of COVID 19 is a considerable health risk,” Englar-Carlson says. “The notion that men need to always appear strong and show no weaknesses — and when that is rigidly adopted and not adaptable to the environment or new information — allows a man to be consistent with his notion of maintaining his sense of masculinity, but it comes at a significant cost.”

Enough already! “Toxic Masculinity” is a term used only by ‘Toxic Females’ and their ‘Middlesex’ partners.
And to think, we pay these rectal organisms to produce this…um …a…stuff.

Honestly, the left needs to just STFU on this “toxic masculinity” bullshit.
i don’t wear a mask because i have enough professional training and experience in disease propagation, infection control, and related subjects, and have read enough journal articles and studies to know that masks are ineffective at preventing such infections, while, at the same time, presenting health risks.
as such, i am more qualified to speak to my mask wearing decision than any of the charlatans quoted in the article.
all that being said, i do carry a mask in my pocket when i go out, and put it on if i go into a grocery store, etc.
not because i think in does anything, but because i need to be able to shop at my usual stores after all this stupidity is over, and i don’t want the people i know there to get jacked up by some officious asshoe from the local government because i don’t have one on.
however, i’m been using the same cheap ass paper mask since this particular idiocy started in Lost Angels, so it’s obviously starting to get a bit tattered, and i wear it only covering my mouth, because bite me.
This form of writing is toxic pollution. It wastes electrons and uses trees wherein the product yield is worth even less than the consumables used to create it.
Rest assured, the likelihood of M.? Hyphenation & cohorts actually writing something is minimal, thus our valued trees are spared. More plausible is the exclusive use of digital (hydrocarbon, synthesized-chemical, & heavy/precious metal laden) devices to minimize their carbon footprint.
I suspect some men refuse to wear masks because they don’t fit well over beards or mustaches.
if you have a beard, your mask is a waste of time, as it will not seal.
that’s why, back in the mid-80’s the US Army booted out all the Sikhs who were serving, because their NBC protective masks could not have an effective seal, leaving them vulnerable to chemical weapon attacks.
that’s why we had facial hair restrictions (limited mustache.no beard) and IIRC, the Navy disallowed beards as well.
kinda hard to fight a fire on your ship if you can’t breath because your mask can’t seal over your beard and you suffocate.
we have a surplus of stupidity in our culture, and a shortage of knowledge and rational thought.
