Cuomo Wants Trump Admin to Increase Hydroxychloroquine Supply Since NY Tests Show Promise

The MSM will likely shove this news to the back page because God forbid they acknowledge they jumped the gun when it comes to anti-malarial medicine hydroxychloroquine. They did it last Friday!

Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during his daily briefing that he wants President Donald Trump’s administration to increase the hydroxychloroquine because tests at New York hospitals show promise.

From The Hill:

Asked about the progress of the trials at his daily press briefing, Cuomo noted that state officials have allowed use of the drug in combination with the antibiotic Zithromax in hospitals “at their discretion.” He said the federal government would increase supplies to New York pharmacies, but that New York has imposed a 14-day limit to protect the supplies for people who rely on it to treat other medical conditions.

“The tests in the hospital, they’re too short a period of time to get a scientific report,” Cuomo said. “Hospital administrators, doctors want to have a significant data set before they give a formal opinion. Anecdotally, you’ll get suggestions that it has been effective. But we don’t have any official data yet from a hospital or a quote-unquote study, which will take weeks if not months.”

“There has been anecdotal evidence that it is promising; that’s why we’re going ahead,” he added, noting that some patients have a pre-existing condition or medication regimen that prevents them from taking it.

JUST THIS MORNING Mika Brzezinski pondered on Morning Joe if Trump has taken an interest in hydroxychloroquine because he has a “financial tie” to the medicine:

Co-host Joe Scarborough pondered aloud why Trump has “pushed an unproven drug” when Brzezinski made the claim.

“A lot of people would say, follow the money. There’s got to be some sort of financial tie to someone, somewhere that has the president pushing this repeatedly,” Brzezinski said.

These people never fail to blow my mind. They have to purposely ignore and delete any information that detracts from their narrative.

Studies in France have shown that hydroxychloroquine has helped people with coronavirus.

Last Friday a poll found that doctors rate hydroxychloroquine as the most effective drug to treat the

The explosion of knee-jerk chloroquine hate blows my mind. How can any rational person not welcome anything that helps reduce the suffering and death associated with this disease?

I’m glad Gov. Cuomo is letting doctors try.

The Anti-Trumpers are going to have collective heart failure over this. At least Cuomo is willing to recognize reality over dogma.

Said it before, will say it again: Priority for hydroxychloroquine (yes, I had to copy/paste) supplies should be:
#1 – People with positive tests for C-19
#2 – Health care workers in contact with #1 above
#3 – People with a pending test for C-19 and significant symptoms
#4 – Lupus patients under treatment
#5 – Hospital supplies right at the edge of treatment zones

#74 – Idiots who whine to their family physician to give them “some of that stuff we saw on TV to keep us from getting sick.”

I suspect there’s enough current stock and in production to cover all the way down to #82 or so, but it never hurts to prioritize. Plus we need to keep in mind that the treatment is *not* perfect, or this whole thing would have rolled up and gone away last week. I’d like to see a fall flu shot with C-19 prevention in it, and perhaps a treatment that makes the ventilator stage of the disease totally unneeded, and we might if the FDA can keep their grubby little hands off the process. (Seriously, after they mucked up the testing process so bad, they really need some straightening up)

No one who works for CNN should be given HCQ + Zithro, given how often they’ve ridiculed it.

      Something we agree on.

I’d also withhold it from any governor that banned, restricted the use of, or even said anything negative about the TRUMP CURE.

        Hear Hear!

Seriously we should present them with “papers” to sign refusing the treatment.

Papers like the “Do not resuscitate.”

Their charts should be marked “Code Trump”

“No one who works for CNN should be given HCQ + Zithro, given how often they’ve ridiculed it.”

Refuse them based upon “It’s not been FDA clinical trial approved.”

bhwms in reply to RandomCrank. | April 7, 2020 at 5:31 pm

Maybe we should give them a “Do Not Medicate with Hydroxychloroquine” order to sign, complete with wrist bands (“DNMwHCQ”). Kind of like offering an atheist $1.00 for their soul. If they really don’t believe Hydroxychloroquine will work, I will buy their right to that drug, and deny it when/if they are dying. Get them to admit on video they were wrong, and they can have it. How’s that sound?

(I know this is unworkable, and probably illegal, but I can dream..)

All good and well for #1-5 but where does the ordinary worker that is stuck going to work every fucking day despite this whole fucking ongoing shitshow because they are in an “essential business” that cannot close and are exposed to 10,20,30 40, 100 slack jawed coughing, finger licking idiots across the counter on a daily basis. Do we not get consideration for treatment once they come down with Wuhan Virus?

(And don’t get me wrong. I have the highest respect and regard for the medical personnel that are taking care of the ill.But there are other groups that should have consideration too.)

healthguyfsu in reply to Lucifer Morningstar. | April 7, 2020 at 1:18 am

I appreciate that you are fighting through in harm’s way and are saying something about it. However, I think there are many out there that are not as cautious and alert as you are in that group.

First off, we need as many people to stay well as possible, so those more at risk should definitely receive priority only behind those already being treated for active infection. However, I will say that medical personnel have to come first because they treat blue collar, white collar, no collar alike.

Secondly, I don’t want to lump everyone together, but I have seen quite a few employees acting very foolishly in the times I have been out. I see employees not keeping their social distance from one another despite clearly being from different households. I also see employees that are not distancing from customers at all in a rush to do their jobs (I get they are under stress but many times the personal shoppers especially will breeze right by you and just about run you over with their stupid cart of crap).

Bottom line is if you are in an essential business, we need you but we also need you to keep your head and be smart! If you get infected, you have the potential to infect every single person that you come in contact with during your essential task, both customer and fellow employee alike! Just because you know someone doesn’t mean that they stay COVID free when you both leave work and go to separate places.

Sanddog in reply to healthguyfsu. | April 7, 2020 at 11:55 am

Essential workers working retail are exposed to more people per day than the average healthcare worker, yet they have no PPE because they were told not to wear it, that it only offers protection to healthcare workers. Once the “experts” changed their tune, there was no longer PPE available for purchase by non-healthcare companies. I’m far more worried about them than I am about a doctor or nurse that has equipment to protect them from disease.

I’m a conservative-leaning independent who dove into the deep end of the COVID-19 pool almost two months ago. I saw the preliminary results on HCQ + Zithro before Trump ever mentioned it, and was hoping that someone would light a fire under the sclerotic FDA and CDC and get things moving.

I know of COVID case #4 in Chicago. Guy (friend of a friend) admitted on March 19th in bad shape. Refused a ventilator. They gave him a chloroquine drip in one arm and hydroxychloroquine in the other, along with some symptom relievers. A week later, he walked out of the hospital symptom-free. Today, there was this out of L.A.

https://abc7.com/health/la-doctor-seeing-success-with-hydroxychloroquine-to-treat-covid-19/6079864

People are walking out of hospitals, cured. COVID discharges in New York have outnumbered admissions for 4 or 5 days. The media have been doing their best to ignore it, but that won’t last for long.

Trump took a big gamble on HCQ + Zithro , truly rolled the dice. Put his presidency on the line. His name is all over it. I thought it would work, and I think it is working. If this goes the way I think it will, Donald Trump will have earned my vote, anyway.

The media? Well, I’ve always joked that if Trump announced a cure for cancer they’d find a way to attack him for it. Well, if the results on HCQ + Zithro are what I think they are, I’ll love to see those hateful, pro-virus rat bastards try to spin it. Should be fun! LOL

RandomCrank in reply to RandomCrank. | April 6, 2020 at 6:23 pm

Clarification: The Chicago patient refused a ventilator that the doctors wanted to use. Good choice: Ventilators are a big problem, often causing more problems than they solve. Outcomes for COVID-19 patients show no overall help if they’re used. Also: The Chicago patient walked out of the hospital symptom-free but tired, and VIRUS-free.

alaskabob in reply to RandomCrank. | April 6, 2020 at 6:28 pm

Strongly recommend the media take the chloroquine challenge. A certain CNN reporter comes to mind. Namely, refuse any such medication if they or their families become seriously symptomatic. Atheists in foxholes…. right. Still early on but when is “anecdotal” no longer “anecdotal”? Sometimes something so true is really so true… hopefully. Imagine a world on the edge pulled back by a $20/month pill? The long march (borrowing that) is a vaccine. One can’t have a full-court press industry in a socialist society maxed on SNAP cards and welfare checks to buy Air Jordans.

Saw a story this morning of 20 folks on ventilators.
    4 were released.
8 are still on the ventilator 3 weeks later.
    The rest are dead.

      dunce1239 in reply to Neo. | April 7, 2020 at 9:43 pm

Once the disease has advanced to where a ventilator is needed your survival is in great doubt but if treated early ICU nor ventilators are needed at least according to reports.

Ivermectin, either alone or in combination with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, is beginning to look promising as well. Both ivermectin and azithromycin have much less serious side effects than the chloroquine derivatives.

I thought under the constitution that the responsibility for obtaining medications and building hospitals and licensing doctors fell to governors, not presidents. So why is Fredo always barking about Trump?

Who knew that Trump, that racist bastard, supported something that cures black Democrats? LOL

Funny the Son of Mario the Poious stepped on a study but now he wants it?

With the media we have, rope should be in short supply.

If I recall, during Trump’s 2019 SOTU, he praised the “right to try” law – which for terminally ill patients let them make the choice whether or not to take experimental / unproven meds for a chance to save their lives. It was that for which Kyrsten Sinema stood to applaud Trump and was scolded by another Dem. One source said she was a co-sponsor and the legislation passed the house 267-149 – which I assume means it was bipartisan.

So here we are a year later and the media, Dem governors and the dem party in general criticize – even block – use of chloroquine in spite of so much promising evidence.

What “blows my mind” is how Dems can argue a woman’s right to choose, sponsor and pass a law that lets a patient choose to take an unproven med for a chance to live … but then turn around and fight against such “right to choose” and potentially life-saving help.

They are such ghouls. And I get so tired of their situational ethics. Such flaming hypocrites they are.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital | April 6, 2020 at 7:44 pm

Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said during his daily briefing that he wants President Donald Trump’s administration to increase the hydroxychloroquine because tests at New York hospitals show promise.

Fuck you Cuomo and the horse you rode in on.There are more states in this country than New York. Forty-nine of them to be precise. And you don’t get to hog the fucking medical supplies because you screwed the pooch at the beginning of this epidemic and are now seeing record numbers of infections and deaths. No, no. and hell no to your request.

amatuerwrangler | April 6, 2020 at 8:01 pm

I read where some state legislator in Ohio just referred PDJT to the “World Court” in The Hague for recommending this drug (I won’t even try to spell it out here) and causing deaths. Will Fredo’s brother become a co-defendant to PDJT in the upcoming world prosecution now?

And if there isn’t enough hydroxychloroquine available to treat patients researchers in Australia have found that Ivermectin (aka sheep dip) mighr also be an effective treatment for coronavirus. More study is needed though.

healthguyfsu in reply to Lucifer Morningstar. | April 7, 2020 at 1:04 am

Ivermectin is also found in heartgard for dogs.

It is often used to treat heartworm in dogs, too, but in very careful measured doses because the heartworms can lead to cardiovascular shock if too many die at once.

Richard Aubrey | April 6, 2020 at 8:36 pm

Doesn’t this clown know Trump said this was a good idea?

One per WEEK apparently provides some protection against the worst case. And only costs $1.

Big Pharma can’t have that.

I have never seen a more tepid begging and admission that Trump was right the whole time. Disgusting.

healthguyfsu | April 7, 2020 at 1:02 am

Instead of ignoring it, they will praise Cuomo for adopting it and make it seem like it was always his “leadership” that led to this push in the right direction.

New insights on the antiviral effects of chloroquine against coronavirus: what to expect for COVID-19?

The multiple molecular mechanisms by which chloroquine can achieve such results remain to be further explored. … preliminary data indicate that chloroquine interferes with SARS-CoV-2 attempts to acidify the lysosomes and presumably inhibits cathepsins, which require a low pH for optimal cleavage of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein

Zn2+ Inhibits Coronavirus and Arterivirus RNA Polymerase Activity In Vitro and Zinc Ionophores Block the Replication of These Viruses in Cell Culture

bet Eric Worrall spotted it before you did, he did before anyone else that I’m aware of

Brilliant! Maybe he should advise Trump to make the sun rise in the morning too! Are we sure this guy isn’t a Joe Biden relative? What a fool!

There has been anecdotal evidence
But we don’t have any official data yet from a hospital or a quote-unquote study,
This is a LIE. You do have official data from numerous locations – the French study, a follow-on where they continued their treatments, and a hospital that has treated something like 1,000 patients.
Then there’s this from the wikipedia article on chloroquine:
Chloroquine had been also proposed as a treatment for SARS, with in vitro tests inhibiting the SARS-CoV virus. In October 2004, a group of researchers at the Rega Institute for Medical Research published a report on chloroquine, stating that chloroquine acts as an effective inhibitor of the replication of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) in vitro. (Citations removed)
(BTW, know what the actual clinical designation is for CoVID-19? SARS-CoV-2!)

See, the reason the French doctors tried it with Winnie The Flu is because it was already in use as an anti-viral. Sure, it was off-label, but it was a known solution for killing viral replication. And combining it with an antibiotic for the pneumonia was also a known treatment.

I had to listen to a couple of these liars on MSNBC yesterday (sitting in a lobby, waiting to be helped). It was all I could do just to grumble instead of ranting loudly about their ignorance or malfeasance.

Oh, and like RandomCrank, I knew this stuff a week or more before Trump started talking about it.

Neo in reply to GWB. | April 7, 2020 at 9:17 am

I haven’t seen anybody wanting to be the “control” group.

GWB in reply to Neo. | April 7, 2020 at 9:20 am

Heh. But honestly, you’ve already got a huge control group – all the people who have already been through it without the drugs, successfully or not.

Sometimes, I swear, it appears that the CDC would rather have people die on the way to a vaccine, rather than treat folks, as if the treatment will diminish the value of the vaccine.

Next it will be how evil Trump is because he doesn’t just conjure up enough Chloroquine to pass it out to anyone who wants it.

Katy L. Stamper | April 7, 2020 at 11:51 am

I don’t understand why drugs such as Hydroxychloroquine and Zinc can’t be manufactured in a hurry in mass quantities.

It’s not like we discovered them at lunchtime today.

pilgrim1949 | April 7, 2020 at 5:05 pm

Sooo…

According to latest OMG-Orange-Man-Bad scuttlebutt, it looks like that, at some point, POTUS’s vast investment portfolios spanning the globe could include one or more companies associated with the production of Hydroxychloroquine.

Ero, he could, in some way, reap some financial benefit from a drug he’s “promoting” to be used.

Clutch the pearls and flop on the fainting couch, all ye TDS and Media hounds. (I repeat myself.)

THAT can only mean one thing!!

Gov. Cuomo WANTS to see President Trump grown even more wealthy and Hizzoner wants Trump to be an even MORE successful President. Surely the “Guv” is throwing all of New York’s citizens under the bus to elevate POTUS and make him richer, yes?

According to MSM “illogic” that would be a perfectly good conclusion based on the available facts.

Funny how that works out.

Or not.

Suddenly anecdotal evidence is good enough???
