DAYTONA 500: Trump does flyover in Air Force One and track lap in The Beast

Trump is the first sitting president to serve as Grand Marshal

On Sunday, President Trump became the first sitting U. S. president to serve as Grand Marshal at the Daytona 500 and only the second to attend the NASCAR event.

He treated fans to a flyover in Air Force One and then rode an historic lap in the presidential limo, nicknamed “the Beast.” Following this, Trump kicked off the race with the line, “gentlemen, start your engines.”

Fox News reports:

President Donald Trump gave an election-year embrace to NASCAR and its fans Sunday when he became the second president ever to attend the Daytona 500. He said the racers and their teams were competing “for pure American glory.”

In remarks to the crowd shortly before the race was to begin, the president said, “Soon the cars will take to the track for the start, tires will screech, rubber will burn, fans will scream and the Great American Race will begin.”

Given the honor of commanding drivers to start their engines, Trump made a grand entrance before the start of the race. He gave thousands of fans a flyover of Air Force One and then rode onto the track in the presidential motorcade as the audience roared with delight. The motorcade took roughly a quarter lap before pulling aside in an infield staging area.

. . . . “For 500 heart pounding miles these fierce competitors will chase the checkered flag … and make their play for pure American glory, and that’s what it is, pure American glory,’’ Trump said.

He said the Daytona 500 was “a legendary display of roaring engines, soaring spirits and the American skill, speed and power that we’ve been hearing about for so many years. The tens of thousands of patriots here today have come for the fast cars and the world-class motorsports. But NASCAR fans never forget that no matter who wins the race, what matters most is God, family and country.’’

it is so refreshing to have a President who actually loves this country and its people…

whoever takes over in 2025 is gonna have a high bar to meet, let alone clear.

While Democrats despise and diminish the common American, Trump goes out there and wins their hearts.
And then they wonder why he kicks their collective ass.

Note to Dems:
THIS is how you get reelected. By connecting with the lunchbox crowd, not holding $50k per plate fundraisers at hoity-toity wineries.

I just cannot stop smiling.. great post. Great President.

These are the moments that voters remember at the ballot box. You can not fake the love POTUS and FLOTUS have for America and her NASCAR traditions. Fantastic day.

Speaking of fake, who else remembers the time when Michelle Obama and (Dr.) Jill Biden were BOOED at a NASCAR event in 2011?! Good times. Good times!!

Brilliant! Should help win Florida.

This reminds me of one the dumbest mistakes I ever made. My father was a senior member of Reagan’s Secret Service detail. Reagan gave my father the hat he was wearing at the 10 sec mark of this video, https://youtu.be/FCJa2mjLPmQ, and my father gave it to me. My mistake was to give away the hat to an ex-girlfriend. I would rather have the hat back.

That’s a mighty big campaign event! ???✊

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to mailman. | February 17, 2020 at 7:05 am

It certainly was! Most big events might have a band, or some good stage acts. Trump? He brings an entire fleet of cars to run around a track!

Oh dear. One big error in that brief speech. He doesn’t give out the Congressional Medal of Honor.

    p in reply to p. | February 16, 2020 at 5:27 pm

Adding that I bet every single one of those NASCAR drivers would want to replace the Secret Service agent driving the Beast.

      Arminius in reply to p. | February 17, 2020 at 12:50 am

They’d have had to fight him for it. The driver is trained to provide close protection to the POTUS/FLOTUS so that would have been a bad idea. The drivers (you didn’t think there was only one) have some madd evasive driving skillz. The driver’s real job is to get the highest value target in the world the hell out of dodge and out of danger, not get into fights, though. If he has to fight his way out of danger instead of drive out of danger it signifies something of a failure.

“TRUMPS new FAST Limo! Secret Service learning how to Drive the POTUS Limo on the TOP GEAR TRACK!”

I’m sure whoever wrote the title for the vid got a few things wrong. The USSS has its own training track, and didn’t wait for the TV show Top Gear to come along. Maybe they allowed Top Gear access to film the training. Today at Daytona you think you saw everything the beast can do, and how the driver can wring everything out of it, did you? I’m sure they didn’t show the film crew everything either.

You never reveal to a potential enemy your full capability. You want to have something to surprise him with. It was policy during the ’70s and most of the ’80s that we never had the F-14 intercept intruding Soviet bombers further than 200 nm from the carrier. Then some idiot admiral decides to have the Tomcats intercept a Soviet bomber 500 miles from the carrier just to “show them.”

Yeah, you showed them, ace. Something we were trying not to show them.

Not to worry, I know people, Secret Service and from other government agencies, who have done all of that training and have participated in motorcades of varying sizes and in various places around the world, from the nice to the “Let’s get this done and over with and get the hell out of here.” I’ve seen many a motorcade in person too. I am well aware that they don’t let just anyone behind the wheel of the Beast.

          Arminius in reply to p. | February 17, 2020 at 10:54 pm

True. But there’s another piece to this. Whoever that USSS driver was, no doubt the best they have, driving The Beast around that oval was going to be the highlight of his career.

No way he’s going to give that up without a fight.

How did Trump get NASCAR to hold the race at a Trump rally??? 🙂

LOL! Who ever came up or approved the idea of the Presidentto be the Grand Marshall for the Daytona 500 better see a fat bonus check this year. They just gave NASCAR the shot in the arm it needed to start getting popular again.

She always looks bored

She’s not. She’s just inexperienced in the position and nervous. (It’s quite a position to be in, standing next to the likes of PDJT as he speaks to roaring crowds.)

What Melania should practice doing is looking around at the crowd more, connecting with them by smiling, then looking to PDJT and smiling. She should also practice holding her hands in front of her.

If she fell asleep, she’d be a better represenation of a First Lady than that racist transvestite we had hanging around from 2008 to 2012.

She is not a politician, she is a wife and mother just like millions of other Americans.

amwick in reply to MarkS. | February 16, 2020 at 7:40 pm

It might look that way.. I prefer to think it is an expression super models wear, as they stroll down the run way.

Arminius in reply to amwick. | February 17, 2020 at 1:17 am

Exactly what I was thinking. Runway models, all models really, don’t smile like 14 y.o. school girls when they are on the job. I have noticed that Melania is getting better at showing emotion, though.

She seems to be growing into this job. She definitely smiles a lot when she is doing some event with kids.

So nice to have a real female FLOTUS compared to the wookie we had last time.

She definitely needs to smile more, her smile is beautiful

The Friendly Grizzly | February 16, 2020 at 5:52 pm

How much sniveling and whining will we hear from The Usual Suspects?

I’m sure Trump didn’t notify Pelosi or Schumer about this …. hell to pay come Monday.

The problem for the Democrats is that they usually don’t look like they are enjoying themselves (except when they are scolding Americans). Trump on the other hand looks like he is having a blast. When he goes to things that Americans enjoy (football, NASCAR, etc.) he looks like he enjoys it because he does. American can spot a phony from a mile away (or 2.5 miles at Daytona).

So which Democrat will be the first to condemn the lack of diversity among drivers.
Or some other nonsense.
(I need to get the Ford vs Ferrari blu-ray when it comes out).
Someone pointed out Trump was going the wrong way on the track. Jack Probosiec explained “He never turns left”.

amatuerwrangler | February 16, 2020 at 8:03 pm

DJT should point out the the Green New Deal wants to eliminate fossil fuels, and the vehicles that burn them. Imagine the “roar” of the electric race cars….. Not. NASCAR and their fans will not like GND.

NASCAR had a rain delay. Someone captured the video still of drops on the camera lens and added, “NASCAR rain delay due to liberal tears”.

Well, not everything. You forgot the celebratory night time machine gun shoot.

Also: Grilling burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob… Cold beer. Maybe 48 ounces of sugary good soda. Two scoops of ice cream… Maybe something fine to sip on with a nice cigar after the race… then retiring to the RV and settling in with the MRS (or MR of course). I know there had to have been some Patriots out there living the Great American Dream!

I want Air Force One to do a loop the loop somewhere. (with or without Trump on board.

They did it with a 707 back in the day and I’d bet they could do it with this one too.

What could he lose? They gonna impeach him or something?

They have no idea that they’ve let the tiger out of the cage. Once you’ve threatened and failed, your enemy looks at you differently than before. It’s just human nature.

Same with Barr. What does he care who thinks he’s doing stuff because Trump said so? They’re going to think that anyway as they did and are doing.

Barr’s not up to being a real maverick like Trump. He’s there only to make a deal to let the deep state off and make them stop trying to mess Trump up at the expense of the country. That’s why he was brought in. There will be NO TRIALS for any of the conspirators.

The Friendly Grizzly in reply to jakee308. | February 17, 2020 at 7:12 am

Actually, it was a barrel roll, I believe. Done right, the airframei is not stressed any more than in straight flight, and gravity in the cabin remains neutral.

William Boeing about had kittens when the test pilot did that over Puget Sound with the 367-80 prototype during the hydroplane races.

    CKYoung in reply to jakee308. | February 17, 2020 at 7:55 am

I’m old enough to remember when a bought and paid for politician fulfilled his role as deep state lackey, screwing the American people while enriching himself beyond belief… and LOVED being called “The Maverick.” I will not name him.

      ss396 in reply to CKYoung. | February 17, 2020 at 9:34 am

I remember when a bought and paid politician stayed bought and paid. The campaigns were really about convincing voters that you would.

This is the difference between being President of all the people vs. being President of all the correctly-thinking people.

What I would have given to have been a fly on the wall when the pilot of Air Force One was told that he was going to do an 800 foot flyover of the field…

There is a really happy pilot and a really happy Beast driver out there today!
