Anderson Cooper: “How do you know it’s gonna be paid for if you don’t know how much the price is?”

In his Nevada caucus victory speech, Bernie Sanders rattled off — before an ecstatic crowd of college-age supporters — a laundry list of promises: Free public higher education, cancellation of all student loan debt, universal free healthcare, universal “affordable” childcare, minimum $60k per year teacher salaries, and a nationwide $15 per hour minimum wage, among other things.

And not just for citizens, but for the “undocumented” as well.

The crowd cheered wildly.

Tonight 60 Minutes ran an interview with Bernie. You can watch the whole thing and read the transcript here.

Anderson Cooper asked Bernie how much all his promised programs would cost and how would he pay for them. The response wasn’t pretty.

Anderson Cooper: How much will that cost?

Bernie Sanders: Obviously, those are expensive propositions, but we have done our best on issue after issue– in paying for them.

Anderson Cooper: Do you know how all– how much though? I mean, do you have a price tag for– for all of this?

Bernie Sanders: We do. I mean, you know, and– and– the price tag is– it will be substantially less than letting the current system go. I think it’s about $30 trillion.

Anderson Cooper: That’s just for Medicare for All, you’re talking about?

Bernie Sanders: That’s just Medicare for All, yes.

Anderson Cooper: Do you have– a price tag for all of these things?

Bernie Sanders: No, I don’t. We try to– no, you mentioned making public colleges and universities tuition free and cancelling all student debt, that’s correct. That’s what I want to do. We pay for that through a modest tax on Wall Street speculation.

Anderson Cooper: But you say you don’t know what the total price is, but you know how it’s gonna be paid for. How do you know it’s gonna be paid for if you don’t know how much the price is?

Bernie Sanders: Well, I can’t– you know, I can’t rattle off to you ever nickel and every dime. But we have accounted for– you– you talked about Medicare for All. We have options out there that will pay for it.

Now you know why establishment Democrats are scared to death of Bernie being the nominee.

Bernie … just print about 100 more trillion and put it in circulation. That’s what they do in Venezuela. That way, they’ll be plenty of money to pay for everything.

Why not promise a billion dollars to every person in America? /sarc (in case you couldn’t tell)

30 Trillion! Just for Medicare for All!

HAHAHA…….

I can’t wait to see the Death Panels just to get it to 30 trillion because you know 30 trillion isn’t enough.

While I plan on voting for Trump part of me wishes Bernie would win and implement his 30 trillion dollar plan just so I could see the looks on people’s faces when they get their paychecks and wonder where all their money went. Maybe than people will finally realize that when the government says something is free you the taxpayer is paying for it.

That’s all very well for the taxpayers, but what about voters who aren’t taxpayers, or at least who aren’t net taxpayers? They don’t care how high taxes go, so long as they get their free stuff. They don’t get their comeuppance until the taxpayers stop paying, and the providers refuse to work for free or for slave wages.

I would guess that most of the ones who aren’t taxpayers usually vote democrat, the exception being the media, Hollywood and the ultra wealthy 1 percenters.

I would not bet on most of the ultra-wealthy voting for Sanders. Turning the country into Venezuela would not be good for them either. By the way, Trump really has done a good job for the “poor and downtrodden”, the historical base of the Democrats (until they contracted TDS).

The issue is progressive prices, not costs. With productivity improvements, technological advancements, personal responsibility, and self-moderation, medical care can be mostly affordable and avialable, with assistance (e.g. charity/voluntary exploitation) for the exceptions when it’s not.

If I heard all the BS from Leftists about the affordability of Medicare For All, some 30 TRILLION and counting, and how we can do that by “productivity improvements, technological advancements, personal responsibility, and self-moderation” we’ve heard is a TRILLION times. I’ll just start with personal responsibility and self moderation. Every leftist can show the way by paying their own way for their own health care. Then come back to us ordinary Americans and tell us all about exactly what “productivity improvements” will be achieved and what “technological improvements will yield 30 TRILLION dollars. They are just words to the Left, signifying nothing but their own BS.

“How do you know it’s gonna be paid for if you don’t know how much the price is?”

Bernie had been assured there would be none of that newfangled math stuff, so this question had him yelling at clouds for hours.

If I recall, Vermont’s politicians thought about giving single-payer a whirl and when they did the math they discovered that taxes would have to be raised sky-high to attempt to prevent the program from bankrupting the state.

And Bernie wants to do this on a national level…

He will get Russia to pay for everything. They owe us.

Well, after that they can’t say they (and we) weren’t warned.

This old fool reminds me of the people who ran for class president in grammar or Jr High school, Middle school for you youngsters, by offering two-hour recess and pizza and ice cream every day in the lunchroom! Of course, we voted for that person! But we never got the two-hour recess nor the ice cream and pizza. I hope we have all grown up and know a phony when we see one.

In an ironic twist, Trump tossed out Obama’s school lunch program of canned vegetables that no one was eating and Trump brough pizza back. Trump is even keeping the promises people made while running for student council prez. He made school lunch edible again.

On 60 Minutes, right where he belongs.

This corrupt old toad hasn’t a care in the world about anything but his own self-agrandizement and ill-gotten gain.

Of course, being our government is COMPLETELY corrupt, the corrupt old toad got a pass. It’d be unbelievable only 3 years ago. Now, it’s the norm.

Comrade Sanders DOESN’T CARE!! It’s not his money. If you pay taxes, you will pay. Nearly half of the people in the United States (47%) doesn’t pay income taxes. With all the free stuff, who will they vote for?

This would be hilarious if it weren’t so frightening.

What happens if Bernie has a heart attack and dies during the campaign? Does Hillary then take over and carry on running for the Presidency?

These congress critters have been spending tax dollars like it’s monopoly money. I don’t think they have a real concept of money, it comes too easily to them through the lobbyists who write all the laws while they get “contributions”.
What’s a few trillion when they see this as a means to buy votes from the idiots who think it won’t cost them, and every taxpayer dearly? It’s free, doncha know?

I want a bumper sticker …

I’ll be dead when the bills come due — Bernie 2020

Bernie on 60 minutes last night, complaining about nickels and dimes. Hey Bernie we’ll let you round up to the nearest $1 millions dollars.

Communist, pure and simple.

If you really want to get a glimpse into this evil old man’s soul, turn the sound off when you see him talk. Do you detect any warmth? A playful glint in his eye? Does he ever crack even a hint of a smile? No on all. This is a humorless old man who is fooling lots of people because of his age and frailty.

Imagine a 20-30 year-old man (or pick a favorite gender) talking like he does while saying the same things. Would theyt be more charming? No. I see nothing but a soulless, angry dictator. An answer for every problem but no solutions. Somehow we end up with utopia. A miracle of getting what we want because we want it.

Massinsanity in reply to Pasadena Phil. | February 24, 2020 at 9:34 am

I agree on Bernie but the same crowd loves a certain Swedish 17 year old who has the exact same demeanor.

Anger is in on the left no matter what the age or how idiotic the pronouncements are.

To heck with the “establishment Democrats [being]scared to death…” I am, too. Not about Sanders winning the election; I think that’s a bridge too far, right now. No, what terrifies me are the number of young people who think Bernie is great, and who have absolutely NO IDEA what implementing his lunacy would do to our economy and our way of life. We let the Left take over education and, guess what? They have the groundwork in place to win the long game.

The thing that really fries me on this “Medicare For All” (a single payer insurance program) is the sympathetic conflation with giving millions of people health care who are otherwise dying in the streets. Is there any sick person in the country who walks into an ER and is thrown out?
