Elizabeth Warren to Bernie after debate: “I think you called me a liar on national TV”

“You called me a liar,” Sanders responded. “You told me — all right, let’s not do it now.”

One of the most disgusting spectacles I’ve seen in a national presidential debate was CNN’s obvious hit job on Bernie Sanders.

Stacey covered it in Elizabeth Warren Refuses Bernie Post-Debate Handshake as #NeverWarren and #CNNisTrash Trend.

The short version is that the Warren campaign leaked to CNN that in a private conversation in 2018, Bernie Sanders said a woman couldn’t win the presidency. As I pointed out #RefundWarren: Bernie supporters go ballistic on Elizabeth Warren over last-minute sexism claim

Just two days before the final Iowa debate, CNN ran a story — obviously leaked by the Elizabeth Warren campaign and based on second- and third- hand sourcing — claiming that in a private meeting in 2018, Bernie Sanders told her a woman couldn’t win the presidency.

That claim is frequently made by liberals lamenting how Hillary Clinton lost and the uphill fight women face on a national political stage. But coming in the ultra-woke Democratic primary, it was an incendiary accusation against Bernie.

Bernie denied it, Warren used Bernie’s denial to come out from behind the leak to say he did it.

When the issue came up at the debate, Bernie again denied it, but then the CNN questionaire asked Warren a question presuming that Bernie said it.

CNN’s setup created a fury among Bernie supporters, and their anger was justified.

But in another interesting moment, just after the debate while still on stage, Bernie and Warren had an obviously tense exchange after Warren refused to shake Bernie’s outstretched hand.

https://youtu.be/vBSZNLttlL4

We didn’t know what was said, but now CNN has located audio picked up by stage microphones microphones on the candidates. Here’s what was said per the CNN audio:

“I think you called me a liar on national TV,” Warren can be heard saying.

“What?” Sanders responded.

“I think you called me a liar on national TV,” she repeated.

“You know, let’s not do it right now. If you want to have that discussion, we’ll have that discussion,” Sanders said, to which Warren replied, “Anytime.”

“You called me a liar,” Sanders continued. “You told me — all right, let’s not do it now.”

This feud is not over.

BONUS QUESTION: Was this confrontation staged by Warren knowing the mics were on? On first read, I had not picked up on the fact that the audio was picked up by the microphones the candidates were wearing:

The conversation was not captured on the primary audio feed from the candidates’ podiums. After the debate, CNN did an inventory of the audio equipment that was used and found two backup recordings from the microphones Sanders and Warren were wearing.

Is this another example of #CNNisTrash?

“I think you called me a liar on national TV,” Warren can be heard saying.

But hasn’t everyone called her a liar? Isn’t the proposition that Warren is a liar established, uncontroverted fact?

I thought the same thing. You’d think Lie-a-watha would be used to being called a liar.

    This is the set up.
I have a feeling that Bernie might have said he didn’t think she would or could win the Presidency, which could be twisted into him saying a woman (a specific woman) couldn’t win.
I think Warren pulled a fast one on feel the Bern, just like the left typically do, twist words to fit a different intent than was said.
Warren and CNN set this up as a hit with the intent of slamming Bernie who the DNC don’t want as he is a faux Democrat, as a means of moving female feminazis from Bernie to Warren.
We see moves like this all the time in leftist politics.
She knew the confrontation would be recorded and it was planned that she accuse him of calling her liar (which she is, and which she has been outed for numerous times), while it was Warren and CNN who called Bernie a liar first, and Warren acting like this revelation of Bernie saying a woman couldn’t win was something that just happened.
Warren lies all the time, I think the two were plotting on being on the same ticket with the loser of the primaries getting VP. Warren has had her support fade so she is looking to take down the one who is in pretty close to the same political lane she is.
The left always do underhanded hits. This one is meant to play hard against Bernie while he has little chance to deflect it with the up coming Shampeachment trial soon to begin.
I can’t stand the Communist Bernie, he is a dangerous stooge who would take down this country, but Warren is even worse. I think her ideology and lust for power is a greater danger.
Biden isn’t going to win. He has some dementia going on, which is obvious to anyone who has ever seen it in person. He is on life support because of the Shampeachment, if he were out it drops the narrative of Biden being a political opponent that Trump abused his power (a BS charge) to have dirt manufactured against.
A lot of these incidents are tied to the greater cause.

But where did Sanders call her a liar. All I heard was “I didn’t say that.” Are we allowed to deny things, or is that now equivalent to an ad-hominem “you called me a liar”?

Bizarre, it’s like she’s so immature. That moment was “not presidential”!

Right up there with Candy Crowley’s hit on Mittens. What ever happened to that lying sow, anyway?

Antifundamentalist | January 15, 2020 at 9:13 pm

Just for a start, the woman fraudulently claimed to be Native American for financial gain and status. She is, factually and indisputably, a liar.

Warren plays the victim to prove how strong a woman president she would make.

But you ARE a liar, Liz.

I would hesitate to go on warpath against chief whose tribe threatens to burn cities.

She’s worse than a mere liar: she is a thief. She stole an American-Indian’s opportunity of a teaching position by faking their identity. Literally stole it.

Then there is her further disgusting fraud by publishing a book on American Indian cooking (of course claiming she is an American Indian). Turns out that book was plagiarized as well.

What a TOTAL POS.

She’s worse than a mere liar: she is a thief. She stole an American-Indian’s opportunity of a teaching position by faking their identity. Literally stole it.

No, she did not. Even if we assume — without any evidence at all — that the Harvard selection committee members are all lying when they say that when they headhunted her from Penn they had no idea she was claiming to be Indian; and even if we assume that without that claim they wouldn’t have gone after her; you still can’t claim that they would instead have hired a genuine Indian. They weren’t looking for an Indian, they were looking for a renowned scholar; that she was supposedly an Indian — if they were aware of it — was at best a side consideration that sealed the deal.

Then there is her further disgusting fraud by publishing a book on American Indian cooking

No, she didn’t. You keep lying and lying and lying and lying and lying.

zennyfan in reply to Milhouse. | January 15, 2020 at 10:26 pm

You’re correct. She didn’t write the cookbook. She just contributed a recipe she cribbed from a newspaper or another cookbook.

walls in reply to zennyfan. | January 15, 2020 at 10:36 pm

You just jogged my memory – and are correct. I believe Howie Carr pointed out in a column that Warren’s recipe came from NYT.

A “plains indian” cooking a traditional meal with crabmeat as I recall. Nothing sketchy there – I mean everyone has crabs in her world 😉

healthguyfsu in reply to Milhouse. | January 15, 2020 at 10:28 pm

More Milhouse “hot take” stated as fact.

Don’t you ever get tired of this schtick?

walls in reply to Milhouse. | January 15, 2020 at 10:33 pm

      1. Harvard wasn’t looking for a renowned scholar, they were looking for a minority hire to diversify their faculty per rabid protests of the student population at the time. If they were truly looking for a scholar, they wouldn’t have hired Warren who graduated from Rutgers Law that was ranked 184 at the time. Harvard hires from top 10 schools, not top 200 schools.

      2. Both Warren and her husband Bruce claim to be Cherokee at the bottom of their recipes in the Pow Wow Chow cookbook.

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | January 15, 2020 at 10:45 pm

Of course the Harvard selection committee members are lying, it’s what progs do about everything.

Looking for a renowned scholar? And they chose a fake Indian. You’ve lost your leftwing prog mind.

She contributed stolen recipe’s to a cookbook, widely reported as her cookbook. While wrong, it’s not a lie to make a mistake. Only an outright liar would call it such instead of just correcting the record.

SeekingRationalThought in reply to Milhouse. | January 15, 2020 at 10:54 pm

Getting a little “tetchy” aren’t you son? And while you are right she didn’t publish a American Indian cooking book, she did submit recipes to one. Recipes, I believe, that she stole, without citation, from someone else? I can’t remember for sure but I think, and hope, the recipes came from the NYT. While you may have inadvertently stumbles into the truth of Pocahontas’ hiring by Harvard, it just doesn’t matter (credit to Bill Murray). Why? Because both Pocahontas and Harvard continued to claim she was an American Indian. Still a lie, I think? For gain, Yes? So, son, I think, if I were you, I’d sit back and listen to your betters until not only have some random thoughts and facts, but also have some understanding. Then perhaps you would stop “almost winning” the battle while certainly losing the war. As it is, you don’t even get a participation trophy. BTW, I think you mother just called from upstairs. Dinner is ready.

SeekingRationalThought in reply to SeekingRationalThought. | January 15, 2020 at 10:59 pm

My apologies. This is a response to Milhouse’s attempt to defend a known liar. Somehow, and I’m sure its my error, it ended up out of order. I would hate for anyone to think that my snottiness was aimed at the wrong and undeserving target.

      tom_swift in reply to Milhouse. | January 16, 2020 at 1:15 am

They weren’t looking for an Indian, they were looking for a renowned scholar; that she was supposedly an Indian — if they were aware of it — was at best a side consideration that sealed the deal.

This contention is just plain absurd. In those days&mdays;the peak era for official tokenism—they were all desperate to snag themselves an Indian (the Holy Grail was an Aleut; I don’t know that anyone, no matter how slavishly PC, ever managed to find one, but lacking that any old Indian would do).

Harvard already had enough staff who could pass as “renowned scholars,” and certainly didn’t have to dip into the pool of third raters.

I don’t get Caleb’s point. Someone explain that to me?

Yeah one of them is lying, and both are saying the other one is a liar by implication.

Why does only Bernie look bad – unless you are a CNN Chyron, of course.

“Just two days before the final Iowa debate, CNN ran a story — obviously leaked by the Elizabeth Warren campaign and based on second- and third- hand sourcing — …”

Hey, why not? Second-hand sourcing is good enough for Adam Schitt.

They’re both commie scum and both are liars.

This is a pretty old personal attack ploy. In the old days, this was a female argument ploy or a show boat lawyer ploy in court. The idea is you accuse one side of calling you a ‘liar’ (and it may be true), but the accusation is supposed to instill such guilt that you will concede the point in controversy. In other words, Bernie is to remain silent going forward whenever Warren attacks him (and it would be in a more subtle basis …’some in the party have said that a woman…’)
for saying she could not be elected.
Bernie did as he always does…raise his hand and voice and walk away. Bernie is a rude, rude amoral nutcase. Crap like this won’t work on him.

I love these debate events! Everybody comes out of them stinking, including the worthless network that hosts it.

This is a totally fourth-grade maneuver. They’re all up on stage to tell lies, and she’s shocked—shocked!— to hear an (alleged) fabrication.

I’m not seeing Presidential material here.

I don’t understand how most people think. Because this seemed to me terrible for Warren and OK for Sanders. Even a standard denial from Sanders isn’t the same as calling Warren a liar.

And as they’re all shaking hands, where’s Klobuchar? It looks like she just split and didn’t stick around for the formalities afterward — not a great look for her.

But is Warren really a squaw?

This is funny because:
(1) They both built their careers on lies.
(2) They both lie about what conservatives say and intend.

The DNC and CNN conspiring to pull the rug from under Bernie Sanders … gives me a weird feeling of deja-vu, almos like I’ve seen this before … could it be possible?
Did I see this before?

Three losers.

Warren betrays a personal trust. All the evil of Hillary, but none of her charm.

Bernie is tarred with telling the truth about her chances. Then lies about it.

CNN assassinates two revered democrat generals.

Lie-A-Watha lie? Tell me it isn’t so.

It’s interesting how the MSM gets caught up in nonsense like this but never asks questions like “Do you think it’s fair for girls to compete against biological boys in high school and college sports?”

It’s ridiculous people are crying there’s no diversity up on the Democratic stage. There’s plenty of diversity.

For example, Bernie is a nutcase, but he seems basically honest.

Warren is a pathological liar, but she seems somewhat more in tune with reality than Bernie. Yeah, that’s not saying much. She’s ruthless, and she’s got the long knives out.

I’d be terrified if either were to become president.

If she melts down when Bernie gently calls her out, I can’t wait to see her Trigglypuff moment when Trump lays into her history of BS

Bernie should have said ” I didn’t say a woman couldn’t win, I said YOU couldn’t win”

    artichoke in reply to tlcomm2. | January 16, 2020 at 11:49 pm

It shows how twisted the Dem process is now. Because then maybe he’d be blamed for savaging a fellow Democrat.

Even though Warren seems to think she had female privilege to do the same thing. I don’t think it worked out for her, though.

Sanders Supporters Shocked to Find Bias at CNN

Did these people actually believe the cable network was in the news business?

I don’t know why she’s so upset anyway. If Bernie did say it he was telling the TRUTH! What’s wrong with that?

Yeah, but Senator, no one really noticed until you picked that fight afterwards.
(They noticed that you are a liar, but not that Bernie called you on it.)
