On Friday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) claimed to be “the only one running for president whose actually been on the executive side.” This is clearly false given that former Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE) was . . . well, vice president.  Not to mention that Michael Bloomberg (D-NY), Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and Pete Buttigieg (D-IN) are all former mayors.

And of course President Trump is running for president, but presumably she meant among her Democrat rivals.  Or maybe she just meant in that room at that moment?  If so, she still would have been wrong.

The Washington Examiner reports:

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren said she was the only White House hopeful who has spent any time in the executive branch on government at an Iowa rally, seemingly forgetting about a number of her rivals.

The remarks came after an audience member asked her when she plans on using presidential authority for some of her policy agenda instead of relying on Congress.

“That’s a really good question. Let me remind you, I think, I’m the only one running for president whose actually been on the executive side,” Warren said Friday evening. “Remember, after the consumer agency was passed into law, Barack Obama, President Obama, asked me to set it up. So I set up a federal agency. We effectively went from two employees the day I walked in the door to about 1000 and spent a year getting it up and operational.”

. . . . Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, former mayors Pete Buttigieg of South Bend and Michael Bloomberg of New York may also have a bone to pick with Warren’s comments. Before Sanders served in the House and later the Senate, he was the mayor of Burlington, Vermont, from 1981 to 1989. Buttigieg, who just left office this month, has also claimed that his role as mayor of South Bend has given him the necessary experience to jump to the White House. Similarly, Bloomberg has pointed to his record as mayor of the nation’s largest city as evidence he’s up for the job of president.

As Jazz Shaw points out over at Hot Air, “executive experience” in most people’s understanding of the term in its political usage means running a city or a state (i.e. a mayor or a governor). Warren, of course, has done neither.

It’s hard to know where to even begin with this one. First of all, “executive experience,” as typically understood in American politics, applies to a lot more than just the White House. (Otherwise, former presidents and vice presidents would be the only ones who have it.) The term applies to working in the executive branch of whichever level of government we’re discussing, as opposed to the legislative and judicial branches. It applies to Governors, city mayors, county executives and the like.

With that in mind, Sanders, Buttigieg and Bloomberg all have direct executive experience. And Biden was literally second in command at the federal level. Heck, even Amy Klobuchar was elected County Attorney back home (twice!) which is technically part of the county executive branch. But what about Warren herself? She’s won precisely two elections in her life, both of them for the Senate seat she currently holds, putting her firmly in the legislative branch. Her comments were obviously in reference to the CFPB, but that’s not really applicable. Keep in mind that President Obama tasked her with setting up the bureau, but he appointed her as an Assistant to the President and Special Advisor to the Secretary of the Treasury.

Hers was more of a hired gun, contracting position, responsible for building the infrastructure. But at no time did she actually run the bureau or take responsibility for its operation. That job went to Richard Cordray because it had become obvious to everyone (including Barack Obama) that Warren could never be confirmed.

As if that weren’t problematic enough, on Sunday she suggested that Americans don’t want a liar for president.  As is often the case with Warren, I just don’t get it.  What on earth is she thinking?

At the Elizabeth Warren wiki and throughout the pages of LI, we have documented Warren’s many distortions, half-truths, dissembling, and outright lies.

Of course her decades-long false claim to be a Native American is the most well-known, but there are many more.  Here are just a few:

Needless to say, people have thoughts:

Yeah Liz we dont want someone who lies to us. Good riddance.

And the press has little to say about Bernie’s heart attack.

What are the odds that Bernie has another heart attack before November 2020?

irv in reply to Tiki. | January 19, 2020 at 6:40 pm

Whatever the odds are, if (more likely when) Hillary gets in the race, they jump to 100%.

Paul In Sweden in reply to Tiki. | January 20, 2020 at 10:29 am

What are the odds of RGB having a stroke or something before November?

…and Trump nominating another conservative before the election?

…and Cocaine Mitch pushing the confirmation through before the election?

I know we are so stunned that she can be on stage for one of the people she worked for in the executive branch and say she is the only one with executive branch experience.

Maybe I’m wrong, but being the Hennepin County Attorney (as Klobuchar was) might qualify as being “on the executive side” as much as being a Special Advisor to the Secretary of Treasury (before being passed over to run the CFPB).

Others with plausible claims:
Michael Bennet–Superintendent of Denver Public Schools.
Deval Patrick–Governor of Massachusetts

Folks who were executives, we were unimpressed and they are gone:
Hickenlooper, Inslee, de Blasio, Messam, Sestak (if we count Admirals), Bullock, Harris, Castro, and Booker.

A couple others have run companies, which might be less impressive than actually being the Director of the CFPB, but is probably more impressive than being a consultant to the set up.

I’d assert that she is closer to be the only Native American running than the only executive branch member.

The media never mentions anything about Fauxcahontas’ husband or family. Are the children also Cherokees? If so, have they been the beneficiaries of affirmative action employment?

One of her husbands is also a professor for Harvard. I wonder if he believes that she is a Native American.

Like Ilhan Omar, Adam Schiff and a few others, Warren lies reflexively, without any reason except that she can.

Ah Lizzie. “Liawatha” is your real name. You know from lying. And of course I wouldn’t want a President who lied to me. But you Dims said Dubya lied about MWD; and I know danged well that Obama lied to me repeatedly–and often. So what’s a voter to do. Presidents who don’t lie seem not to be on offer. You’ll fit right in with that crew-but I’m not going to vote for you.

Had Warren not lied about being an Indian all those years, she’d likely be teaching at a community college in Oklahoma.

    Milhouse in reply to bw222. | January 19, 2020 at 7:20 pm

Um, no. While her Harvard appointment can be disputed, there doesn’t seem to be any dispute that when she was appointed to a named chair at Penn everyone thought (correctly) that she was white.

      bw222 in reply to Milhouse. | January 19, 2020 at 7:48 pm

Warren went to Penn in 1987, one year after registering as a “Native American” with the Texas State Bar, so she was hyping the myth at the time she was hired at Penn.

        Milhouse in reply to bw222. | January 19, 2020 at 8:34 pm

And yet nobody at Penn had any idea she was making such a claim.

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | January 20, 2020 at 12:41 am

          And you know this how?

          How, seems appropriate.

Edward in reply to Milhouse. | January 20, 2020 at 10:26 am

Can you document that statement? News articles without documentary proof included, or at least listed, do not count.

There’s a daunting task for you, Milhouse, showing via documentary proof that not a single person (OK, we can let you off the hook for students and limit that to faculty and staff) knew of Lizzie’s claim (to the Texas Bar or otherwise) that she was Native American.

Milhouse in reply to Milhouse. | January 20, 2020 at 10:34 am

Everyone involved has said they were unaware, and the burden of proof is on anyone claiming they were. Which would be you.

Lol lol lol

Say it ain’t so Pocahontas

Lol, says the fake Indian…

Saw another one of Gray Beaver’s commercials that ends with “I’d never give an ambassadorship to a donor that gave me fat checks”.. My question to her is who is paying you with fat checks.

This is clearly false given that former Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE) was . . . well, vice president.

Technically the vice president is a member of the legislative branch, not the executive. As Sarah Palin correctly pointed out in her debate with… Joe Biden, who seemed completely flummmoxed by this idea. She had clearly read the constitution, and he clearly hadn’t.

CKYoung in reply to Milhouse. | January 19, 2020 at 8:05 pm

Unitarian Executive Theory would have the VPOTUS in the Executive and Legislative since VPOTUS is President of the Senate and holds the tie breaking vote.

Milhouse in reply to CKYoung. | January 19, 2020 at 8:39 pm

The Unitary (not Unitarian!) theory of the executive has nothing to do with the vice president. The theory is that when the constitution says the executive power is vested in the president it means what it says. There is no “executive branch”, there is only the president. Thus the vice president cannot be part of a branch that doesn’t exist.

But there is no theory under which the vice president is in the executive branch. Even if there is such a branch, the vice president has no role in it.

Don’t let her visit California.
Those pants on fire all the time could be very dangerous over there.

Her agent handed her the script to the wrong movie. She doesn’t know what she’s saying. She just reads what is handed to her.

That’s as good an excuse as any.

“Elizabeth Warren: “How could the American people want someone who lies to them?”

They don”t, you moron. That’s America gave hillary clinton a boot in the ass – and it’s the same one coming your way.

Next Bernie will question how the American people could want a septuagenarian for president.

Somebody hand that squaw a mirror!

Christopher B | January 20, 2020 at 7:19 am

WTF are you talking about, Milhouse? Your supposed explanation of Unitary Executive theory is exactly backwards. Unitary Executive says that the President controls the policies of the entire Executive Branch even though some members of it appear to be independent because they require Senate confirmation, and Congress can influence policy via legislation.

You are wrong. The unitary executive theory does not say the president “controls” the executive branch, it says he is the executive branch. That’s what “unitary” means. The entire executive power is vested in him, just as the constitution says. There is no branch outside him, for him to control. Everyone who carries out an executive function is his direct agent; they work for him, not for “the people”. That is what the theory is, whether you agree with it or not.

The vice president plays no role in any of this.

Make that a size 16 boot please.

Isn’t Liawatha the pot calling the kettle black.

Does the LSM and those that support FakeAHontus every question Which Hole she is pulling her answers from ???

Mykee the Patriot | January 20, 2020 at 9:41 am

I don’t know Liarwatha. You tell me.

Elizabeth Warren a “winner” even at this? I dunno. Competition is really tough and it’s still early days. Just in the House and Senate alone Democrats are running away with the game. If we add in the MSM – a separate division within the competition – we’ll need several elimination heats to come up with a slate of semi-finalists. Elizabeth Warren is like Hillary Clinton, someone who has much, has never won anything on her own-have any of us?, but is thankless and a world class sour puss.

On a separate note… “We effectively went from two employees the day I walked in the door to about 1000” in a federal agency – and that’s a good thing?
