Brown University Launches Investigation Over Homophobic Graffiti Found in Dorm

“was first seen in late November”

When did people begin taking graffiti seriously? It’s something stupid someone scrawled on a wall.

The Providence Journal reports:

Brown University investigating homophobic graffiti in dorm

The Brown University Department of Public Safety is investigating homophobic graffiti written inside one of the school’s dormitories, according to a report in the Brown Daily Herald.

Homophobic graffiti has been documented at Hegeman Hall dormitory by the Public Safety department, Vice President for Campus Life Eric Estes and Associate Vice President for Campus Life Koren Bakkegard wrote in an email to the dormitory’s residents, the Daily Herald reported.

The graffitti was first seen in late November, according to the report, and more than 15 incidents have been documented.

It can also be a threat. People who are particularly vulnerable to violent hatred, such as Jews and gay people, are more sensitive to such signs, because they’ve learned that while most of the time it’s just kids being as offensive as they can be, with no intention of doing anything more, sometimes the graffitists will follow it up with eggs, bricks and stones, baseball bats, knives, or fire. Cf Clarence Thomas’s description of what a black person of his generation goes through at the sight of a burning cross.

I didn’t downvote you, but don’t call it “grafiti” then, call it a threat if that is what it is.

Grafiti is unsanctioned expression and can sometimes be okay (murals on buildings, for example).

Further, besides the likelihood of a hoax, it could have been left by a previous tenant with no target in mind, which would not be a threat.

In this case, though, I don’t see that they’ve ruled out the most likely explanation, which is that it’s a hoax.

Downvotedyou trying to upvote you. Not that every such graffiti should be thoroughly investigated before announcing, but the university seems oblivious to the prospect of a hoax, given that virtually every high profile case on campus seems such. And Brown itself has had such. I think Brown enjoys such graffiti as it gives cause to a large department.

Start with hoax and rule it out first. That’s the way of things right now.

But hey…. it’s an important conversation we need to have
And there are probably a lot of students who need to attend a mandatory “re education class” on identifying dangerous graffiti
And I bet there are at least two students who might need to be kicked out of school as an example to others because they may have been seen in the area in September

When will they investigate the need for both a Vice President for Academic Life and an Associate Vice President for Academic Life, and does this imply that there is also a President for Academic Life?

I need a description before I can evaluate this.

I’m sick and tired of leftists getting away with characterizing speech as homophobic, racist, Islamophoc, transphobic, et cetera, without ever disclosing the content of of the speech.

The reason of course is often completely innocuous and expresses a widely held belief because it’s true (truth is the new hate speech).

For instance, if I were to point out that there is no scriptural support for SSM (I’m looking at you Pete Buttigeig) and in fact the whole “gay Christian” movement involves a heretical rewrite of both the Old and New Testaments, the pearl-clutching left would screech about the homophobic speech.

But it’s true. You can read the Bible cover to cover and it only speaks of homosexuality in a condemnatory manner. It is overwhelmingly pro-heterosexual because only heterosexual relations fit God’s plan for creation (see Genesis 1 & 2).

Just as my default position is most “hate crimes” and all campus “hate crimes” are hoaxes I have a default position on these “hate graffiti” crimes.

1. When it occurs on a college campus it is a hoax perpetrated by the very group supposedly targetted.

2. Unless it’s against Jews. Then it was perpetrated by some Hamas-linked “justice for palestine” group and the university “Public Safety Department” agrees with the sentiment and the Jews deserved it.

No greater hotbed of homophobia than Brown University as we all know. Do they have some sort of bat-signal alert system and then the entire Bias Response Team all jump into action? Is there a Diversity and Inclusion Mobile they all speed off in?
Can we have a contest to craft what the actual perpetrator really looks like – a frumpy, overweight gender studies cow that identifies as “nonbinary” and has a perpetual scowl on xer mug, perhaps?
