Pelosi Gives Blessing to Proceed With Impeachment: ‘The President Leaves Us With No Choice’

White House responds: “Democrats should be ashamed.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcQhqcnao58

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced this morning that she has asked “our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment” against President Donald Trump.

Pelosi claimed Trump “abused his power for his own personal political benefit at the expense of our national security.”

She also claimed that America’s “democracy is at stake.” Well, it’s a good thing we’re a republic!

For some reason, she believes Trump’s “actions have seriously violated the Constitution.” Didn’t the House and Senate renew the Patriot Act?

Pelosi did not provide a timeline or details. The articles of impeachment include abuse of power and bribery, obstruction of Congress, and obstruction of justice.

The White House responded:

Trump dared the Democrats to impeach him:

DONATE

Donations tax deductible
to the full extent allowed by law.

    Precisely.

As in the Soviet Union anyone who does not enthusiastically support the Dem’s Cause — their worldview of history and what the future should be — is an enemy who must be silenced and destroyed by any means necessary and they are permitted no defense because their position is deemed indefensible, period.

In the context of Orwell’s 1984, anyone who does not actively oppose Emmanuel Goldstein (AKA Donald Trump) and his evil efforts, plots, and schemes to destroy the people’s solcialist paradise is an enemy who must be silenced and then either re-educated or eliminated.

The Dems’ have lost their minds. They are out touch with reality and have embraced Karl Marx’s world view. The Democrat party is now America’s party of Marx. They see the history and future of economics, America and the world through heavily Marx tinted glasses.

With 35% of minorities and blacks approving of President Trump already, (I suspect the number is higher since many will be afraid to admit it to pollsters) is there any wonder why Pelosi has lost her mind today.

So we will get to learn what the deal is between Pelosi and McConnell.

Shame and/or the Truth

Tell me Nan … what are the latest buzz words that stick from your focus groups? Bribery has replaced quid pro quo. What else?

Apparently “Orange Man Bad” resonates with them more than actual “high crimes and misdemeanors”. I’m sure the Founding Fathers would totally be on board with that. /sarc

Pete in reply to walls. | December 6, 2019 at 9:38 am

The Dems transition from quid pro quo to bribery/extortion to abuse of power broke the sound barrier… If McConnell caves in his usual fashion there will be a 2nd Civil War.

“The President leaves us with no choice” because he will neither resign nor switch parties, nor agree to betray the GOP base.

Well if they do advance an impeachment vote on the House floor, then those Dems will lose the House majority

It will only pass by a slim margin and more than that number is up for re-election

Then it goes to a Republican controlled Senate where not enough RINOs exist to swing a removal

Not to mention the R-senators will control the proceedings

This is a big bonehead move so close to an election year

But hey – let them do it

Let’s be honest, very few Dems will lose their seats, their constituents want this and they don’t care how it gets done
After Mueller blew it for them, they actually threw everything out the window and the American people be damned

Because the media won’t produce the truth nor will they show the hearings in the Senate, all you will hear and see is that President Trump was impeached, over and over and over

“Not to mention the R-senators will control the proceedings”
*****
With people like Romney, Collins, Sasse and never Trumpers, I’m not so sure that pro-Trump Republicans will control procedures, witness list, etc. “Avoid partisan contention for the good of the Country, blah..blah”

Plus with John Roberts acting as the Presiding Officer of the Senate and controlling the trial, all bets are off.

fscarn in reply to SHV. | December 5, 2019 at 11:47 am

John Roberts is a compromised man. Compromised because he oversees the FISA court generally and because he appointed the FISA court judges which issued those warrants the purpose of which was to spy on Trump qua candidate and Trump qua president. All of which means that the GOP Senators defending the president will call Roberts as a witness.

And compromised because Roberts’s on record rebuking Trump on the recent “Obama judges” remark. In short, Roberts’ ability to act as an impartial is non-existent.

28 U.S. Code section 455. Disqualification of justice, judge, or magistrate judge,
      (a) Any justice, judge, or magistrate judge of the United States shall disqualify himself in any proceeding in which his impartiality might reasonably be questioned.
      (b) He shall also disqualify himself in the following circumstances:
      (1) Where he has a personal bias or prejudice concerning a party, or personal knowledge of disputed evidentiary facts concerning the proceeding.

See also Federal Rules of Evidence, Rule 605,
The presiding judge [in a trial] may not testify as a witness at the trial.

jpwcpa in reply to fscarn. | December 5, 2019 at 3:54 pm

So if the Chief Justice recuses himself from the impeachment case, who would preside over this trial in the Senate? Would it go to the most senior of the associate justices?

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to fscarn. | December 5, 2019 at 4:32 pm

Plus Roberts is being blackmailed (Imo)……

        txvet2 in reply to fscarn. | December 5, 2019 at 4:57 pm

        “the Chief Justice shall preside.”

No room for recusal there. He COULD resign or retire, of course, in which case it would seem that a new Chief Justice would have to be appointed and confirmed. Now THAT would be worth stocking up on popcorn.

fishstick in reply to SHV. | December 5, 2019 at 10:28 am

Republicans still control those committees though

that doesn’t change if a Romney says he will vote to convict Trump

I agree that the chance for conviction are essentially zero but I think the idea that a Senate trial is an opportunity for PDJT to blow the lid off of the Deep State is wishful thinking. There are enough Rethug votes to keep the “trial” on a very narrow focus and preclude, for example, calling Hunter Biden, Schiff, etc. as witnesses.

        jb4 in reply to SHV. | December 5, 2019 at 11:00 am

If the Republicans do not force the so-called whistleblower to testify, even if only to “take the Fifth”, they deserve to lose control of the Senate as well as the House. The public needs to learn whether this is really a plot to overthrow the duly elected government by the whistleblower, the Democrats and others, as it appears.

          Valerie in reply to jb4. | December 5, 2019 at 12:13 pm

Yes, let’s play into the Democrats’ hands.

          clintack in reply to jb4. | December 5, 2019 at 12:29 pm

          Forget the whistleblower.

The best defense is a good offense. Start calling every relative of politician who served on Burisma’s board, or otherwise cashed in on the Great Ukrainian Money Launder.

The argument isn’t that President Trump has the Constitutional authority to do what they say, it’s that he was justified in his curiosity because there IS massive corruption there, and Hunter Biden is just the tip of the iceberg.

          txvet2 in reply to jb4. | December 5, 2019 at 5:27 pm

Clintack: I’m afraid that pointing out that “they did it too” isn’t going to work on impeachment any more than it would in a burglary trial. OTOH, establishing the fact that you’re innocent because nothing you’ve done is illegal won’t work in a political trial, either. Like it or not, if it goes to trial, the only way he gets acquitted is via a partisan majority in the Senate.

      PapawR1 in reply to fishstick. | December 6, 2019 at 9:29 am

Unless the republicans in the Senate change the rules for the trial, which will be noted by those who vote for those senators, since Trump is the defendant he should be allowed to call whoever his legal team deems necessary for his defense.
As badly as the democrat rules made fair an impossibility in the House, I wouldn’t think the republicans in the Senate would want to go down that road. This would no longer be the “grand jury” phase of the impeachment process but the trial phase where everyone including the democrats, as the republicans have loudly proclaimed during the impeachment hearings, is not above the law but he’s not below all it’s rights either. If the democrats controlled the Senate they might try but I can’t see the republicans denying him a full defense.

Exactly. Mitt Romneycare and his minions like Ben Sasse and Mike Lee (and likely a few others) probably won’t get enough votes to remove Trump. But they can (and almost certainly will) drag out a Senate trial for as long as they possibly can while protecting Democrats from any scrutiny. The goal here is to damage Trump as much as possible to keep him from being re-elected.

We should know that right away once McConnell reveals the rules. THAT is what I believe is the deal between him and Pelosi. THAT is where we will know if he will allow Trump to call on Schiff, the Bidens and Eric Ciaramella to testify. Flip a coin. The GOP always seems to deliver Democrats major victories when they control everything. It’s all kabuki theater leading up to the final moment.

Something tells me the Democrats have an advance copy of the Durham report. Because this smells like panic.

    venril in reply to Shadow5. | December 5, 2019 at 2:02 pm

Yep – if they were named in it, they’ll have been given an opportunity to comment.

      txvet2 in reply to venril. | December 5, 2019 at 5:36 pm

Is there going to be a “Durham Report”? He’s running a criminal investigation and has empaneled a grand jury. I thought that grand jury proceedings are generally supposed to be secret (unless the Democrats want them exposed, of course).
I don’t think it’s like an IG Report, where people get a chance to review and respond before it’s issued. That comes at trial (or plea bargaining).

        CorkyAgain in reply to txvet2. | December 6, 2019 at 3:30 pm

I’m not a lawyer but I believe the technical term for any report Durham may issue is “indictment.”

Hopefully there will be several of those.

Antifundamentalist | December 5, 2019 at 10:32 am

The hypocrisy inherent in all of this is just unreal! Or rather, I wish it were unreal. Trump hasn’t really done anything that Biden and the Obama administration didn’t do, and has done less than the Clintons have done, but while their sins weren’t even acknowledged as sins…they are howling for this man’s head on a platter.

We could’ve impeached Obama just for being Obama and we didn’t even know it!

No doubt. It seems the Dims have settled on “abuse of power” as their “high crime or misdemeanor.”

If ruling “by pen and phone” isn’t an abuse of power I don’t know what is.

The hypocrisy is part of the point. That they’re accusing Trump of doing exactly what Biden actually did is the point. Like accusing Boy Scout Kavanaugh (who every single Washington insider knew to be a Boy Scout) of orchestrating gang rapes.

It’s a demonstration of their power, and a warning to others.

Mike Pence hasn’t been alone in a room with a woman other than his wife in twenty years — does he really think that will make him safe? Hold our organic-fair-trade-humanely-sourced-chai-lattes while we convince 45% of the population that he’s been running a child porn ring out of his basement for the last twenty years. (Bonus points if he doesn’t actually have a basement.)

And their attempts to pre-spin it are failing.

For consideration: The Democrats are dead broke, with few donations coming in. Impeachment theater is free media, and is about the only campaign activity the Democratic Party budget can afford.

Yes, and as we have seen it is filling the coffers of the Presidental re-ellection campain.

You are spot on about this being a money grab. The most important task is fundraising and campaigning in keeping your job in 2020. They could care less about legislating, it simply cleans the plate before the calendar year changes.
My gut tells me that Nancy will need every day available to work the high dollar donors on both coasts, I think many may sit this out until after the convention, straining the piggy bank even more.

They are not broke, the billionaires continue to fill their coffers. What they present are the little donations from the little non billionaires, make no mistake, that’s why they are able to spend millions on AG and Representative races, and unfortunately, they have been winning them

I wouldn’t get too excited about the fundraising numbers.

Competitive primaries usually see donors holding off until there’s an actual candidate to support.

Have we ever had a Presidential election where the Republican spent more money than the Democrat? If so I can’t remember it. There’s no reason to think 2020 will be the first.

Seeing her in white in front of flags is stomach-turning. May God strike her, Shiff, Nadler, Schumer and their ilk deaf, dumb and blind. May their lying tongues wither within their mouths.

Let’s just hope and pray that the democrats do not leave we the people no choice.

In other words, no change.

The D’rats will continue to parade around and pretend they’re doing something. Until they vote to impeach, this is all nothing but a puppet show to entertain the kiddies and the liberals.

The Wednesday clown show was a disaster; the D’rats can’t even come up people who can contrive a competent and semi-convincing hypothetical legal case. The whole thing will crash and burn in the Senate, and the D’rats will have shot their bolt; they’ll be left with nothing. So they won’t do it. All the bravado is like one of Obama’s “red lines”—just talk.

But kee-rist, these turkeys can’t even do propaganda right. Didn’t they run a focus group to tell them how disastrous ‘The President Leaves Us With No Choice’ is? It’s an admission that DJT is the man in the driver’s seat. Even his mortal enemies dance to his tune. This is just an embarrassment for America. President Trump deserves more competent enemies.

It’s their hill to die on.

The funny thing is that should the Dems and media get what they want and remove Trump, CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, NYT, etc. will soon be out of business. What are they going to focus on? Pence? Drying paint?

    txvet2 in reply to Obie1. | December 5, 2019 at 5:45 pm

They won’t run out of things to lie about until they have full control of the government and establish the USSA. Then they’ll still have plenty to lie about covering for Dear Leader and his minions as they begin the pogroms against their former political opponents.

This is a declaration of war against us and free elections – literally. This is the stuff that could justify martial law and the dissolution of congress.

The fascist left has done a good job of planning this chaos and developimg street armies and 2 generations of useful idiots.

The ball is in our court:we either crush this politically, or the war starts.

Attacking Baron Trump is the fascist tactic to protect biden’s, pelosi’s, kerry’s and others offspring illegally receiving US foreign aid kickbacks on their behalf.

JackinSilverSpring | December 5, 2019 at 4:40 pm

Does this mean that the House will vote on articles of impeachment without further hearings in the Judiciary committee? If so, it is a striking vote of no confidence in nattering Nadler.
>Also. I can now see the Articles of Impeachment the DemoncRats will come up with:
1: Orange Man bad;
2: Orange Man bad, won the 2016 election;
3: Orange Man bad, won the 2016 election and governs effectively;
4: Orange Man bad, won the 2016 election, and governs effectively, and can win the 2020 election.

Said the Bitch that has gotten rich in office and her husband richer. All this while the President has made America great again which has cost him about 1 billion in personal wealth.

Somebody needs to be bitch slapped.

It’s certainly proof that the flag has nothing to do with patriotism.

She crows about patriotism the Constitution and the founders, when she and her merry band of totalitarian tyrants are antithetical to all that she crowed of,disgraceful.

Oh, come on. Congress has unlimited choices and free will to choose wisely. BTW, that white suit looks very cultish.
