Former Communist Leader Angela Davis to Give University’s Keynote at MLK Day Event

“Through her activism and scholarship over many decades, Davis has been deeply involved in movements for social justice around the world”

It’s probably safe to predict that Davis will not be protested and no one will try to shout her down.

Campus Reform reports:

Fmr communist leader, FBI’s Most Wanted activist to keynote MLK Day event

A university in Missouri will be hosting a former Communist Party leader who was once listed on the FBI’s Most Wanted List as its keynote speaker to Martin Luhther King, Jr. Day.

Southeast Missouri State University announced that it will host Angela Davis for the MLK Celebration Dinner, which is themed “Women in Action: Pursuing the Dream.” In its announcement, the university does mention that Davis was in jail for 18 months and was placed on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted List,” but it fails to mention the reason she was placed on it on the list.

In 1970, Davis was accused of purchasing and providing the firearms used to take a judge and juror hostage during the trial of the Soledad Brothers, who had been accused of killing a prison guard. Davis was found not guilty after being in jail for 18 months, even after being found to have communicated with one of the Soledad Brothers.

“Through her activism and scholarship over many decades, Davis has been deeply involved in movements for social justice around the world,” the university boasts. “Her work as an educator – both at the university level and in the larger public sphere – has always emphasized the importance of building communities of struggle for economic, racial and gender justice.”

Davis was fired from her teaching job at UCLA in 1969 due to Communist ties, but eventually returned to teach there in 2014.

I was still on active duty with the U.S. Coast Guard during the Cuban Boatlift of 1980 and have many memories, fond and otherwise, of being in one of the cutters working “the line” outside the three-mile limit, assisting refugees fleeing Castro’s People’s Paradise. One of the memories that is still crystal clear is tuning in to a radio station out of Havana and listening to this self-same Angela Davis ranting about “the U.S. Navy’s illegal blockade of shipping into Mariel Harbor” … at the exact same time that we had to double our lookouts to avoid all the commercial traffic flowing in and out of Mariel! There were Navy ships several miles north but every U.S. vessel that was within ten miles of Cuban waters belonged to the Coast Guard!

Angela Davis has a well-deserved reputation as a serial liar and there is no reason to suspect that she has changed. If she proclaimed that the sky is blue I for one would have to go outside and look to be sure!
