Western Connecticut State Investigating ‘Hate-Filled’ Fliers Found on Campus

“the university is a place where everyone should feel safe”

Are we to believe there are racists at this school, or is this just another campus hoax?

NBC News in New York reports:

‘Hate-Filled’ Fliers Found on Western Connecticut State University Campus

Police are investigating “hate-filled” fliers found on the campus of Western Connecticut State University Halloween night.

According to a statement from president Dr. John B. Clark, there were fliers and graffiti found on school property. Danbury Police, Connecticut State Police, and the FBI are all involved in the investigation.

Clark did not specify what the fliers said, but described their distribution as “despicable and utterly unacceptable behavior,” and stressed that the university is a place where everyone should feel safe.

“I am both shocked and immensely saddened about this sick and outrageous behavior, especially since our university has worked so hard to be a warm, diverse and caring community for all, no matter their race, color, gender, sexual orientation/identification, disability and age,” Clark wrote.

Clark mentioned there is a possibility that the fliers came from someone outside the university community, and that the university intends to take action against anyone involved.

And yet when it’s revealed….yet again….it wasn’t a white who did it “their distribution as “despicable and utterly unacceptable behavior,” suddenly won’t be so despicable or unacceptable…merely a well intentioned mistake that will go unpunished.

I’ll go out on a limb, here, and declared this fake hate, fake crime, fake incident until proved not fake.

I just don’t know why I’m so jaded…

described their distribution as “despicable and utterly unacceptable behavior,” and stressed that the university is a place where everyone should feel safe.

How abut people who distribute fliers? Should they feel safe?

After a careful study of America’s founding documents, I’d say they should . . . and anybody who says otherwise should be hit in the head with a bicycle lock. So there.

What was on the fliers? Why is there no quote in the article? Could it be that the hate is in the eye of the beholder?

‘Hate-Filled’ Fliers Found,

Probably says something like “Being personally responsible for your actions is the best way to go through life”

“One flyer said “It’s OK to be white,” while the other said “Islam is right about women,” according to the university’s spokesman.”

Tho one about Islam and women really gets their shorts in a bundle.

Every culture has its wife/girlfriend/women beaters.

But ONLY in Islam is that behavior divinely sanctioned.

Qur’an Surah 4:34 lays it all out, “Pickthall: Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great.”

“and scourge them” Not making any of this up. Read it for yourself in,
    http://corpus.quran.com/translation.jsp?chapter=4&verse=34

As atheist Sam Harris has noted, “Islam’s the mother lode of bad ideas.”

am glad someone besides me thinks it’s ok to be white

regards islam, have yet to see/hear/learn anything that could be right

Is there a place college presidents go to learn to talk like that? I guess his point is that universities aren’t like the rest of life.

THE FLYERS SAID “IT’S OK TO BE WHITE”

that’s all they said. apparently it’s a hate crime..LOL!!!!

So if what the local news is reporting is correct and I believe it is….if a white kid goes to that University and feels fine and psychologically healthy about the way they were born the powers that be at the University will judge them to be “despicable and unacceptable” and seek out law enforcement to deal with them….?

Someone must have blasphemed against the climate. This sounds like a case for a very special investigation featuring Inspector Greta and her deeply furrowed brow.

Don’t snarl me, ‘bro!

Diversity (i.e. color judgment) breeds adversity.

Oh no, not the W word!

Are we to believe there are racists at this school,

It’s possible. Racists do exist. Remember the moral of the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf is that even a liar sometimes tells the truth; the people who dismissed the boy’s last outcry as yet another of his hoaxes lost their sheep.

or is this just another campus hoax?

That’s the way to bet.

Clark mentioned there is a possibility that the fliers came from someone outside the university community, and that the university intends to take action against anyone involved.

OK, this I don’t get. If the people responsible are discovered and it turns out they are neither students nor employees of the university, then what action could it possibly take against them? It can’t expel or fire them, and they haven’t broken any law so it can’t bring charges, and I can’t think of any tort they could be sued for, so what is left?

our university has worked so hard to be a warm, diverse and caring community for all, no matter their race, color, gender, sexual orientation/identification, disability and age,”

So it’s official university policy that it’s OK to be white, right? I will therefore assume that this cannot be what the fliers said. Right? Or have I missed something.

Littering as a last resort.

Not if they put them in a neat pile somewhere for people to see, or if they put them up in an easily removable manner like all other flyers.

Also, according to the rules of golf, a player gets a free drop from debris piled and intended for removal, but not from debris in general. (Ernie Els got free relief under this rule some years ago at the Masters). Yeah, I know that this is irrelevant to this particular discussion.

Here are some actual hate crimes. Note where they are not, and who is not committing them.

If the words are spelled correctly it probably is not a student at the school.

Wouldn’t it be fun to assemble a focus group of leftists and ask their reaction to a variety of ‘signs’.

It’s OK to be gay.
It’s OK to be black.
It’s OK to be muslim.
It’s OK to be a woman.
It’s OK for a man to identify as a woman.

Profound nods of agreement all around, I’m sure.

It’s OK to be white.

And we have liftoff.

You mean… It’s NOT Ok to be white? Or is it not ok to just say it’s ok? How is this hate?

I was wondering what the hell happened to those flyers. I was looking EVERYWHERE.

Danbury Police, Connecticut State Police, and the FBI are all involved in the investigation.

Excuse me, but what exactly is the jurisdictional predicate for the involvement of the FBI?

Either the story has omitted pertinent information or the President of the University has really got his panties in a twist.

Milhouse in reply to JohnG. | November 3, 2019 at 8:50 pm

What is the predicate for the Danbury or CT state police to be involved? What crime is alleged to have been committed? How is it their concern that someone expressed an opinion that is not approved by the university?

No concern should arise if flyers are handed out. However, University regulations may restrict where flyers may be posted. Violation of those regulations may trigger police involvement. Since the University is owned by the State of Connecticut the CT State Police would then have the primary investigative authority.

It’s not the expression of an opinion that should have triggered police involvement, just the method of expression, e.g. spray painting graffiti is illegal even if the content of the message is lawful.

If a student is eaped they won’t being in those agencies but handle it in house. Where dlyers were pisted beings three agencies into play?

I hooe they file charges. The civil award wod be monumental.

Milhouse in reply to JohnG. | November 4, 2019 at 9:39 am

There’s no indication in the story that these flyers were posted in a manner that’s different from the normal way flyers are posted in that location, i.e. following whatever (viewpoint-neutral) rules exist.

Call the university police Non emergency hotline. tell them you have a tip for their investigator.
when the operator asks “what’s your tip”

tell her “it’s ok to be white”.
