UCLA Prof Doesn’t See the First or Second Amendments as Absolute

“calling not only for gun control but also ‘qualifications’ to freedom of speech”

This is a window into the mind of the left at large. They want to remake America in their image. You’ll also notice that for this professor, all of our problems can be traced directly to Trump.

Campus Reform reports:

UCLA prof: ‘I don’t see the Second Amendment as absolute, just like I don’t see the First Amendment as absolute’

A University of California-Los Angeles professor is calling not only for gun control but also “qualifications” to freedom of speech in order to combat mass shootings fueled by racism, a phenomenon he says has only come to light since President Donald Trump’s election.

UCLA professor Douglas Kellner states that until just two years ago, “all of the previous shootings were rather divorced from sociopolitical factors,” claiming that while mass shootings occurred in the past, they were the results of “individual crises of young men,” having to do with things such as family life or school trouble, in an interview published by the university.

Kellner asserts that the phenomenon of mass shootings motivated by racist ideas is largely isolated to instances occurring since Trump’s election.

“The toxicity of gun culture has created a new factor that we have never seen before, that was a major factor in the last few shootings, and that was the election of Donald Trump, and in particular, Trump’s rhetoric [on immigrants],” Kellner said, adding “there haven’t been particular racist school shootings before, or acts of domestic terrorism.”

The professor goes on to state matter-of-factly that the El Paso shooting “was completely different from any of the other acts of domestic terrorism [or] school shootings, because it was targeting Latinos and immigrants.”

There is no way to enforce a successful ban on God given rights except to exterminate them that practice those rights.
Even felons exercise their 2nd amendment rights. Case in point: maurice hill.

A right with qualifiers ceases to be a right. It becomes a privilege the State can give to or take from each citizen just by editing the qualifiers.

You mean like the Left views the Second Amendment, and has passed all sorts of restrictions on the supposed protected right with the SCOTUS generally going along to get along with them. Nothing could more explicitly demonstrate the political nature of the SCOTUS than having the Fourth Circuit re-write, mis-cite and completely reverse Heller and the SCOTUS refuses to vote certiorari and take up the case on appeal (Kolbe et al v. Hogan etc. and the State of MD). Admittedly the reluctance (read refusal until this year) to take up any appeal involving Heller and/or MacDonald might say even more about the “conservative’s” perceived reliability of Kennedy after his votes in the majority for Heller and MacDonald.

Neither are absolute, as is already demonstrated by current laws on the books.

This is a non-sequitur in the argument for gun control.

I would bet that Thomas Jefferson and the rest of the guys who put this Constitution together had more brains in their ONE PINKIE then this professor has in his whole body…..but then again this professor lives in California need I say more!

Well then, none of the Amendments are absolute. Like abortion. Or non-discrimination. Or the right to be free from unreasonable searches or seizures. or the right to privacy which, unlike the 1st and 2nd Amendments are no where written in the Constitution. Bet if you point this out, this prof’s head would explode.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and most of them stink. Who cares what he thinks?
