Senior Democrats on Kavanaugh Impeachment: ‘Get Real’

Because so many Democrats want to impeach all the people!

Over the weekend, The New York Times dropped a piece on new allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Some of the 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls immediately called for Kavanaugh’s impeachment along with some Democrats in Congress.

They all face pushback from Republicans, but quite a few senior Democrats in both chambers.

After the bombshell came out, the candidates lined up to demand Kavanaugh’s impeachment. Former HUD Secretary Julian Castro declared “[I]t’s more clear than ever that Brett Kavanaugh lied under oath.”

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) lamented over Kavanaugh’s confirmation process in her tweet. She ended by saying, “Like the man who appointed him, Kavanaugh must be impeached.

Sens. Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) followed suit along with Robert O’Rourke.

Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) plans to “file an impeachment resolution on Tuesday.” She claimed that “Kavanaugh’s confirmation process set a dangerous precedent.” She argued they “must demand justice for survivors and hold Kavanaugh accountable for his actions.”

I thought in America one is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Kavanaugh only has accusations against him. One woman refuses interviews and even said she does not recall the supposed incident. All we really have to go on is Christine Blasey Ford’s word. Her star witness, Leland Keyser, said she did not believe her lifelong friend.

Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) expressed his frustration:

“Get real,” as Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) put it Monday afternoon.

“We’ve got to get beyond this ‘impeachment is the answer to every problem.’ It’s not realistic,” Durbin said. “If that’s how we are identified in Congress, as the impeachment Congress, we run the risk that people will feel we’re ignoring the issues that mean a lot to them as families.”

Durbin had to take a shot at Republicans:

“I understand their frustration. I was in the front row of the frustration crowd. They didn’t produce the documents and the FBI didn’t follow up on the investigation,” Durbin said. “We’re now getting pushed into the impeachment corner by the Republicans every chance they get.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said “he would address the matter later.” So, for now, he is “saying nothing on Kavanaugh.”

Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) agreed because Senate Majority Leader “Mitch McConnell would block any impeachment.” He insisted they all learn from the confirmation process by not rushing into these lifetime appointments.

Durbin has a point. Anytime something comes up the Democrats scream IMPEACHMENT. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler is obsessed with impeaching President Donald Trump. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi gently pushes back against Nadler, but he is determined to continue his righteous crusade.

Nadler even brushed aside Kavanugh impeachment proceedings in order to concentrate on his march against Trump. Weirdly enough, he explained his decision on the fact that Congress should not throw around impeachments. They have “to be able to justify” their actions.

I guess “impeachment” is the go-to when RAYCISS! has stopped working.

    You said it!

Since the Democrat old heads are so “set” on impeaching, they should be asked why they are not impeaching Sandy OAC, or impeaching Omar the Brother Lover, or impeaching Pelosi, Feinstein, or Schumer or Biden, all totally impeachable.

I looked it up.. because I wanted a bunch of them impeached too. The thing is only civil officers can be impeached… which rules out members of Congress. They can be expelled. Or voted out.

Exactly. It makes no sense to speak of impeaching a congressman. The whole concept of impeachment does not apply to elected office-holders.

It applies to the President, who is elected, albeit indirectly through the electoral college.

Good point. Here’s a better way to put it: Congress is the body that impeaches, so it makes no sense for a congressman to be impeached. At any rate, it is so. A congressman can be expelled by a 2/3 vote of their house (the other house gets no say in the matter), but cannot be impeached.

The Democrat Circus, all clowns and no lion tamers.

The point is getting the news cycle in a world where soap opera rules. It’s just decided to become more literally soap opera.

Over the weekend, The New York Times dropped a piece on new allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Not true. The allegation, such as it is, is not new, it’s not against Kavanaugh, and it doesn’t even clearly allege an assault.

1. The book simply reports on a claim that was submitted to the FBI when it did its investigation in the week before the additional hearing.

2. The claim is about some unspecified “friends” of Kavanaugh.

3. There is no claim that the woman (who is apparently named, though I haven’t seen her name reported anywhere) objected in any way; if she didn’t then it wasn’t an assault. For all we know the story may be true and she welcomed it, which is why it made no impact on her and by now she’s forgotten it.

Some of this kind of thing probably happened somewhere, in the same sense that Animal House is a documentary.

I arrived at college assigned to a dorm section that called itself The Zoo. There was no drinking on campus, but it was fairly common to return to campus drunk.

Only half of my dorm section returned for the second semester.

Senior democrats are all communists that wish to enslave all of us.

Ayanna Pressley: “I believe Christine Blasey Ford. I believe Deborah Ramirez. I believe this new woman who has no recollection of anything like that ever happening.”

“We’ve got to get beyond this ‘impeachment is the answer to every problem.’”

Impeachment? We need a Committee of Public Safety! What’s the problem, they can’t they find a latter-day Robespierre?

The alleged action is not sexual assault. In fact it is not assault of any sort. As for Ms Ramirez and her recovered memory, I reflect on legal literature which now favors the opinion that 100% of recovered memories are fallacious in some key fact. Psychiatric literature says the preponderance of “newsworthy” events and people in recovered memories is most impressive. In Ms Ramirez case, she desperately searched for corroboration of an event she wished, and when she got none, made the allegation anyway. As for Ford…she is a liar, plain and simple. Bpth od these women suffer from TDS to the extent it has clouded reality.

100% of recovered memories are fallacious in some key fact.

That’s a nice way to put it. I’m not usually as nice as you are.

Pelosi approved Nadler’s investigation and hearings.

Don’t say Pelosi doesn’t support this. She said yes when she could have said no. She supports it but doesn’t want to be publicly associated with it.

The only reason Dems are reticent now is because, in retrospect, it’s been an epic fail. They thought it would go better. They’re only sorry because they lost. If they think they might win next time, they’ll jump on it again.
