New App at University of Alabama Will Track Students During Football Games
“in an attempt to prevent them from leaving during the fourth quarter of home games”
In exchange for using the app, students will get perks. Sounds a little fishy.

University of Alabama tracking students during college football games
In an effort to keep University of Alabama students engaged during college football season, the school has come up with a way to record the location of students in an attempt to prevent them from leaving during the fourth quarter of home games.
Beginning this season, the university offered an app for students to download on their cell phones so the school will know if they leave games early at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Students who install a version of the app FanMaker called “Tide Loyalty Points,” will be awarded points which they can use to earn certain incentives, like College Football Playoff Tickets, according to the New York Times.
“The Tide Loyalty Points program works like this: Students, who typically pay about $10 for home tickets, download the app and earn 100 points for attending a home game and an additional 250 for staying until the fourth quarter,” the Times stated.
Alabama coach Nick Saban is used to their program beating up on their early non-conference opponents, which is a problem for attendance when students leave early during blowout games. During the team’s 62-10 victory against New Mexico State last Saturday, Saban was displeased to see the stadium half-full.

Doesn’t the University have anything better to do? You know, like prepare the students for a productive life? Yeah, I know…crazy idea.

Relax, the only students being tracked are football players and that was court ordered. LOL!
Would be easier for them to put the third string in at the beginning of the second half. That way by the time the fourth quarter rolls around it might still be a ballgame.
We don’t want Nick to be displeased, now do we? I predict that soon students will be tracked everywhere, on and off campus. What student with any brains would allow this app, let alone volunteer to install it? Why doesn’t the administration just put a microchip on the ear lobe of each student as well as each faculty member?
I haven’t yet worked out the students who pay $10 for a ticket, and then scalp it for $250 to a desperate alum, angle. My guess is that they are tracking the student’s phone when they buy the ticket, and then tracking the student’s phone during the game to see if they even showed up, even though “their ticket” was there hours ahead of time. I suspect the University wants a taste of the $240 difference.
Sounds like municipalities and stste governments. They call this cut “permits” and “taxes”.
