James Comey was the Bad Guy in the ‘Russia Collusion’ story

James Comey was the Bad Guy in the ‘Russia Collusion’ story

He lied to the President, lied about lying to the President, leaked government information to cover up his lying, and lied to the public about his lying.

The Department of Justice Inspector General Report revealed what many of us suspected all along: James Comey was the Bad Guy in the ‘Russia Collusion’ story.

He lied to the President, lied about lying to the President, leaked government information to cover up his lying, and lied to the public about his lying. Comey tried to set up the President soon after he took office and failed, and covered up the attempt.

Comey is revealed to be a completely manipulative bureaucratic infighter who maneuvered the government into a two-year Executive Branch paralysis in the form of the Mueller investigation, while falsely proclaiming himself the only holy player in the saga. His defense when unmasked in the IG Report is to crow that he wasn’t indicted.

Would any other FBI employee who did what James Comey did have escaped prosecution? Would James Comey have let James Comey off the hook? That DOJ declined prosecution is not a testament to Comey’s innocence, but to the reality that the James Comeys and Hillary Clintons are treated differently by the prosecutorial bureaucracy regardless of administration.

You want the Big Takeaway? Here you go:

That a James Comey rose to become Director of the FBI makes the case for limited government and the protection of individual rights. The Tea Party was right, and still is.

Close down the FBI, they’re not to be trusted.

Comey is a disgrace and so are those NeverTrumpers who supported him. None of them have apologized. Those NeverTrumpers are all dead to me–they have negative credibility.

He should be held to the same standard as Martha Stewart. Hillary too. Martha told one little so called lie to a fbi guy and served 5 mos.

Remember Susan Rice’s notorious “email to self?” According to Sundance at CTH, it was

“…a justification memo, written by an outgoing National Security Advisor Susan Rice to document why there have been multiple false and misleading statements given to the incoming President Trump and all of his officials.

This is not a “CYA” memo, this is a justification memo for use AFTER the Trump-Russia collusion/conspiracy narrative collapsed; if the impeachment effort failed.

The “By The Book” aspect refers to President Obama and Susan Rice being told by CIA Director John Brennan, FBI Director James Comey, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, that President Trump was the subject of an active counterintelligence investigation to determine if he was under the influence of the Russian government.

Even the timing of the memo, written 15 minutes prior to the end of the Obama administration, is ex-post-facto useful as evidence of the author’s intent.

Put aside the nonsense aspect to the origination of the investigation for a moment; that part doesn’t apply here…. Accept their position ‘as if’ it is substantive.

We are talking about Brennan, Comey, Clapper and Yates telling President Obama and NSA Susan Rice that President-elect Trump is under a counterintelligence investigation where the suspicion is that Donald J Trump is an agent of a foreign power.

Under that auspices (fraudulent though it may be) the incoming President is a counterintelligence investigation target. A potentially compromised Russian asset. Under this auspices all of the officials would be permitted to lie and mislead their target, so long as they did so “By The Book.”

That’s their justification for a lengthy series of lies and false statements.”

Including Comey’s. Sundance again:

“First, there is absolutely no doubt James Comey used his memos akin to FD-302 investigative reports from an FBI agent. Meaning, from beginning-to-end he considered himself an investigative agent against the President-elect and then President Trump.”

With the counterintelligence investigation as a predicate, for an investigator to lie to the subject(s) of investigation would be a legitimate ploy. Of course the predicate for the counterintelligence investigation was itself a put up job.

Sundance reminds us:

“Now we see why the FBI Supervisory Special Agent in charge in charge of inventorying Comey records asked the IG for official “whistleblower status.””

How long will hollow chants placate the masses that see time after time that those in the Federal Government cannot be brought to justice via the courts? History is uncertain with regards to time-frame but absolute with regards to its brutality.

We were lurching towards a tyrannical government. A dangerous, banana republic where justice isn’t even an illusion. The thing that gives me hope is Donald J. Trump was in fact elected president as a complete outsider. I think PDJT, for many years before his campaign, had a front row seat to a lot of really bad things in and about our government. Being a true patriot, he could not in good conscience watch our country burn. It took decades for things to get so bad, so the clean-up isn’t going to happen overnight. The intersection of so much of this is unreal. clinton/epstein. comey/mueller. weiner’s laptop/SDNY/NYPD. Not only is the clean-up going to take awhile, a large number of Americans are going to be devastated by the truth. Patience.

Tom Servo in reply to MarkS. | August 30, 2019 at 8:24 am

What would you have him do that he hasn’t done? He doesn’t control Congress, he doesn’t control the Courts, half the time his own branch of government is in open revolt against him, and the recent comments by Mattis show that he can just barely trust the military, if it came to that. What would you have him do, that he actually has the power to do, that he hasn’t done?

MarkS in reply to Tom Servo. | August 30, 2019 at 8:48 am

He can order Barr to appoint a Special Counsel to investigate, he can, according to Alan Dershowitz, order the prosecution of Comey, McCabe, etc.

A special counsel delays the process. I still have patience that justice will prevail. Let Barr do his job. The Swamp wasn’t filled overnight, nor will it be drained that quickly.

Subotai Bahadur | August 29, 2019 at 10:42 pm

Comey is the public bad guy. Those plotting to overthrow the US government and the Constitution with and above him are untouched, and there is no hope that they will ever be touched by the law. And key to this is that despite ALL of the things they have on Comey both with this and with the Chinese espionage of Hillary’s State Department emails that he covered up . . . he is unindicted and unpunished because of his position and protected status. And he will not be punished by the legal system, because we have no longer have a rule of law. We are in Thomas Hobbes territory.

If the law and the Constitution do not restrict the activities of the powerful, there is no reason for the masses to obey them. The State of Nature.

Here are a couple of key points. First, a quote from the report:

“By not safeguarding sensitive information obtained during the course of his FBI employment, and by using it to create public pressure for official action, Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employees_and the many thousands more former FBI employees_who similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information.”

What the report has done is told every one of those 35,000 and every government employee that the law means nothing, citizens have no rights, and that government employees of the ‘coercive organs of state power’ are immune from being punished for anything that they do. They will not be prosecuted. Comey got the same “reprimand” when he covered up Hillary Clinton’s State Department emails being sent to China on her outlaw server.

The rise of civilization has been the result of the rise of the rule of law. When there is no rule of law, there is no civilization. What Hobbes referred to as ‘the State of Nature’. Brute and deadly force will be all that counts, and badges that have no legitimacy that is backed by popularly accepted law, can and will eventually be matched operationally with superior force from outside the official government.

Those 35,000+ government employees are not the only ones who have been notified that deadly force is now all that counts. We are in for what Chinese historians referred to as ‘interesting times’.

Be ready.

I think prosecution was declined on these charges because they aren’t a slam dunk. More serious charges will come. I have faith that Comey and the others will be tried in a military tribunal for sedition.

JackinSilverSpring | August 29, 2019 at 10:44 pm

I thought Barr had b*lls. Instead he is the same castrated bum that Sessions was. Much, much less serious mis-speaking got Papadopoulos two weeks in jail and Flynn currently teetering on some unknown sentencing. This is an effing miscarriage of justice and an effing OUTRAGE. Now Comey is claiming to be exonerated because he’s not going to be indicted and prosecuted. This is not justice. This sounds like Animal Farm where all animals are equal, but some are more equal.

    “I thought Barr had b*lls.”

This brings up a question: Is the IG’s finding the final word or is it more of a recommendation?

Tom Servo in reply to The Packetman. | August 30, 2019 at 8:30 am

What we heard yesterday was simply a report on Comey and the memos that he kept with him, plus a report on his behavior as FBI director. Remember when Trump was going to be impeached because there was no reason to fire Comey? Well now we know that yes, Comey needed to be fired.

As far as this ONE issue, taking the classified material – I can see where Comey used his knowledge of the process, and his co-conspirators inside the FBI, to set up circumstances that would make a criminal conviction on these particular charges extremely difficult, probably impossible with a DC jury. The details of that are all in the IG report. So, DOJ will not lead with an extremely weak case, you want to win at the outset to encourage others to plea. In a large conspiracy like this, it’s catastrophic to lose the very first case.

And yes, Flynn was screwed. That’s why the case against him is collapsing, and why those who prosecuted him are falling into disgrace.

Gremlin1974 in reply to Tom Servo. | August 30, 2019 at 10:50 am

I am pretty sure it can be used in follow on prosecutions as well. If Comey was this involved the next IG report may be what they are really waiting for.

I would not be surprised if Comey has enough dirt on Barr from his previous AG tenure to seal the AG’s lips forever

“…a two-year Executive Branch paralysis…”

Looking back at everything Trump accomplished over those two years, I don’t think “paralyzed” means what you think it means.

So what? Nothing bad will happen to Comey for these lies and releasing this information.

This entire matter makes me think of some bully kicking sand in a little guy’s face and sneering ‘what are you going to do about it?’ Just as there will be no consequences for using US and allied intelligence resources to spy upon and entrap President Trump and his advisors there will be no consequences for Comey, Hillary, Mueller, and the rest of the illegitimate gang.

I have been calling it the Grubernment for years and it’s more true today than ever.

Our Government is completely illegitimate!

Thank you for this brutally blunt assessment of Comey the traitor.

Henceforward, anyone who sits on a jury has to understand that the DOJ and FBI are fine with lying under oath, and the testimony of their agents should be weighed accordingly.

These guys look out for each other and if they are useful to the left they are above the law. No one will ever hold them accountable. Comey staged the closest thing to a coup the country has ever seen and he will walk away.

All of our institutions are totally corrupt from top to bottom.

    jakee308 in reply to Thatch. | August 30, 2019 at 3:42 am

That the FBI refuses to tape interviews or confessions is an indication of how they view evidence. It’s something to be shaped and reshaped for maximum effect.

They are not new at lying to put people in jail or jeopardy.

Not only that, but if you insist on having your lawyer sit in on the interview and make a recording that stays in *his/her* possession, they will *leave* rather than face the potential of trying to use evidence from their Form 302 that runs counter to the recording. (or at least so I’ve been told)

I just don’t care anymore.

Until the Republicans grow some fucking balls and hold these people ACCOUNTABLE, nothing will change.

You think Trump ‘trashing’ him will stop the next scumbag political FBI, CIA and DNI directors from going even FURTHER?

These pieces of trash tried to overthrow the elected President. NOT A SINGLE ONE has faced meaningful consequences.

Why do you think they were so casual about all this? They KNEW they’d never face consequences.

Put this piece of crap in prison or shut up.

“Balls” is not the GOP’s problems: corruption is.

“Balls” is Devin Nunes and Trump: both loathed by the GOP.

Trust in the GOP is as dead as trust in the FBI or CIA or IRS: they have both been destroyed by obama/jarrett, and turned into and agency more akin to the Gestapo than America’s premiere law enforcement agency.

i’m waiting for the shooting to start.

Comey is “the” bad guy? Hold on there partner. You can’t award Comey the prize as the scummiest of scumbags until after all the rocks have been turned over. Lotsa scorpions left to be discovered. doing nothing is what the republican party does everytime the people put them in power to undo the evil the democrat party has done. that makes the republican party every bit as evil as the democrat party.

Comey may be mentally ill. I believe he has been advised that going down the cliff of self-righteousness will save him from jail. But he tried to extort the President and compound that extortion for ever. He is truly an evil man, perhaps working for others.

tommy mc donnell | August 30, 2019 at 2:03 am

government agencies working to determine who becomes president of the united states is not how our government was set up to work. it is however how a communist government is set up to work. what we have with our current fbi, irs, doj, and state department is a fundamentally transformed government.

Comey is a self righteous prick. So full of himself that he sees everything as orbiting around him and his view.

Never wrong. Always doing the correct thing. He takes his firing and all this other stuff as a martyr would.

I’m surprised he doesn’t climb up on a cross to make it clear exactly who he thinks he is.

Sorry if that seems blasphemous to anyone but I can’t come up with a better analogy. The man has put the Nation in danger and caused untold damage to our institutions and let the media run wild with inflammatory speculations.

So tell me, which laws do I get to break with impunity? Isn’t ANYONE outraged by this?

As someone who has been Tea Party long before we were called Tea Party, I have only one thing to add to what the professor said. How many of us were routinely maligned as “conspiracy theorists” and ejected from conversations for even suggesting that there might be something like this going on? Today when I talk with my old blog who have been following me for going on 20 years now and sometimes longer with personal friends, the feeling is one of surprise. Hard to believe that we were wrong. Not that there are no conspiracies but the truth could be so much worse than we had imagined. I never would have guessed that our government and American society itself could be so corrupt. Where have the patriots been throughout society? How could they let this happen? Do oaths mean anything anymore?

“He lied to the President, lied about lying to the President, leaked government information to cover up his lying, and lied to the public about his lying”.

And NOTHING will happen. Ya think stuff like this may continue? Well duh!

    fredp0444 in reply to Romey. | August 30, 2019 at 9:55 am

Hopefully it won’t continue with renewed vigor because of absolutely no chance of prosecution by a totally blind and probably complicit Justice Dept.

This all falls in Trump’s lap! He could’ve and should’ve told Barr to appoint an Special Counsel as it’s evident that Barr while prosecuting soccer moms for helping their kids get into college has no interest in sedition

Yet wander over to the comment section of the NYT article about the IG’s report and 75% of the comments refer to Comey as a hero and savior of Democracy.

We truly live in scary times.

I’m still waiting for Mr. James Comey to be brought to justice & answer for his Crimes Against the People. But I’m probably waiting in vain. I guess some Pigs are, indeed, more equal than others.

William A. Jacobson: Would any other FBI employee who did what James Comey did have escaped prosecution?

Though the Inspector General found that Comey violated FBI policies, the Justice Department has declined to prosecute Comey because there is no prosecutable case to be brought.

casualobserver in reply to Zachriel. | August 30, 2019 at 9:47 am

I infer into that comment all that transpired AFTER Comey’s bad actions. For example, materials were LATER determined to be and marked classified, however it may seem unnaturally convenient that those contents Comey shared (transcribed so to speak) were not included. It’s easy to think that had Comey been lower level, that might not have been the case.

No matter, imagine being a deskwarmer in the FBI and sharing what Comey did. Perhaps no prosecution, but repercussions? Without a doubt.

casualobserver: No matter, imagine being a deskwarmer in the FBI and sharing what Comey did. Perhaps no prosecution, but repercussions? Without a doubt.

That’s right. Comey’s actions are not prosecutable, but were a violation of FBI policy and his employment contract. If Comey were still at the FBI, he could be administratively punished. As it is, he is berated by the Inspector General.

And it was Barr who let him walk. They won’t prosecute their own. You are ruled not governed by a state within a state.

      Subotai Bahadur

we are no longer a nation of laws.

So, it was a solitary figure, a single man, who was nearly able to stage a soft coup in the United States of America. Impressive, to say the least.

I see the crazies are out there claiming this IG report somehow makes Comey innocent. In fact it points out his guilt. He violated numerous FBI regulations, each of which he could be fired and lose his pension for. It also points out he lied to the FBI and hence was referred for prosecution. Not dealt with in this report, is that Comey lied to Congress under oath, although that fact is made clear by the substance of the report.
I have no idea why the left wing crazies seek to defend Comey. It is clear he also intended to extort Ms Clinton in the same way he tried to extort Trump, using her finger prints on the very same dossier. He is a crook all around.

On March 2004 Martha Stewart was found on four counts of obstructing justice and lying to investigators …

More recently, Former national security adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to charges of “willfully and knowingly” making “false, fictitious and fraudulent statements” to the FBI…

Why is Comey not charged? Why is he immune? People in the DOJ are clearly protecting an obviously guilty Comey and those DOJ people need to be outed, named, shamed and fired.

Barr needs to explain himself. Trump needs to explain Barr.
