Lindsey Graham Lobs “Communist” at “The Squad,” AOC Accuses him of Wanting to “bring back 1950s McCarthyism”

And just like that, AOC cedes the high ground back over to Trump

Something happened to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on the way to Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation.  At one point during the hearings, Graham finally “got” it and let loose a fiery tirade against the Democrats for their treatment of Kavanaugh.

Remember this:

It was magnificent. And he hasn’t backed down since that moment.

The left is currently in meltdown mode over some (rather carelessly worded) tweets by President Trump and his characteristic defense of himself.  Another day, another leftist meltdown, right?

Graham is now taking some heat for stating that “The Squad” are all “a bunch of communists.”

Watch the Fox & Friends segment:

USAToday reports:

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., was one of the first to weigh in, saying in a Fox News interview on Monday that while he agreed with Trump’s criticisms of the four congresswomen’s politics, he thought the president should “knock it down a notch” and avoid getting personal in his attacks on them.

“They are American citizens. They won an election. Take on their policies,” Graham advised.

“We all know that AOC and this crowd are a bunch of communists. They hate Israel. They hate our own country,” Graham said, referring to Ocasio-Cortez by her initials.

But knowing that, the president should “aim higher,” he said.

. . . . Graham said on “Fox& Friends” that he recently spoke to Trump and lauded him for his economic accomplishments and his military success against the Islamic State. He said Trump should contrast that with the four Democratic congresswomen’s goals, which “would destroy this country.”

“Focus on what they want to do for America, and to America, and compare it with what you’ve done. Don’t get personal. Don’t take the bait,” Graham said he told the president.

That sounds like sane, rational advice. And it would be in normal times dealing with normal Democrats.

However, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is about as radical and reckless as they come, and she wasted no time proving it by stating that Graham doesn’t think “Trump’s racism” goes “far enough” and that he “wants to bring back 1950s McCarthyism.”

And just like that, the tide shifts. She’s just handed the high ground back over to Trump.

You have to wonder if Graham didn’t expect that given how completely predictable AOC is when it comes to hyperbolic—and completely groundless— nutty accusations.

Yet he still had to criticize Trump about “aiming low”. I don’t think he’s changed. He just enjoys bathing himself in Trump’s reflected glory which he could do without criticizing Trump.

What he SHOULD be doing is criticizing all of those Republicans who never defend Trump as they keep voting for the Dem agenda.

It’s still pretty much Trump vs the world. He could use some help.

“It’s still pretty much Trump vs the world. He could use some help.”

Precisely. He could use some help, but he is, all by himself, a one man wrecking ball of the left.

I love Fuzzy, but she isn’t ever going to understand, Trump didn’t throw out a tweet without knowing what he was doing. When all the dust settles, Americans are going to look at the D party and see the squalid 4 hateful communists as the face of it.

Pelosi can’t even open her mouth now. She has to defend the commies that are bent on her destruction. It’s beautiful.

And it’s not just the Squad. It’s Hollywood, Romney, the entire left that took the bait. The President vs the Mindless Leftist Mob. It’s a thing of beauty. Keep tweeting Donald!

Good reading on the fallout from President Trumps Truthing (tweeting).

Democrats in Freefall – Congress Collapses – Chaos Ensues…

As typical in an era where outrage is generally promoted to the level of Moonbat crazy, the circle of stupid was fueled by the media, who fired-up the politicians… who fired-up the outrage protestations… who fueled the media… and thus the circle of stupid continued.

All the way to Nancy Pelosi dropping all Speaker pretense of actual legislation, and instead choosing to bring a resolution to the House floor to advance Muh “racist” OrangeManBad.
The debt ceiling needs to be raised.

Spending appropriations bills need to be resolved.

Immigration laws need to be fixed.

        The border is in crisis.

Infrastructure spending needs to be resolved.

The USMCA needs to be ratified.

Forget all those issues that matter…. what does House Speaker Nancy Pelosi do?

Why, stop everything so she can advance a resolution to prove her squad doesn’t like President Trump……..

I don’t see any change in him. He is the same hard-working Senator that comes to hearings loaded for bear, and asked questions sharp enough to stop the Obama administration in its tracks.

He also is a gentleman, who would prefer to see our national discourse more closely limited to the issues, instead of the lurid diversions we have seen.

I disagree with him about Trump’s management of the horrible language coming from the Democrat radicals at this time. DJT has had the raw nerve to call the Democrats on their hatred of all things American and non-Islamic. I agree they are communists, or Islamists, which is just another tyrannical political system that involves enslavement of the vast majority of the populace, in the interests of a few wealthy families.

Trump did aim low. And he connected with his target, spectacularly so.

Just look at what Romney and Kasich are pushing. Kasich is pushing that you cannot criticize people for being Socialists or Communists, that it solves nothing and diminishes America. (Also note that they can call Trump a Nazi all day long, and Kasich doesn’t get media headlines criticizing that, now does he?) Compared to this, Lindsey is being a warrior for Trump. Those little criticisms are what he needs for his position as Senator, but he’s still delivering the pounding, and he’s still being attacked as Trump’s right-hand man (which is funny).

But yes, Trump aimed low. Let’s not avert our eyes from that. It’s not pretty, it’s not nice, but good grief, it is effective at stirring up his opponents.

Low is where you have to aim. That’s where the commies are. It’s not vulgar to refer to criminals as criminals. What is Trump expected to do? Find new euphemisms so as to not offend all of the cry babies?

Trump just unleashed a series of devastatingly funny tweets against “the four horsewomen of the apocalypse”. The best one:

“They’re the reason there are directions on a shampoo bottle…

Heads are sure to explode…. again. Beautiful.

McCarthy was mostly right!

McCarthy had a vastly better record than his critics, who were wrong pretty close to 100% of the time.

As I’ve often said of the left, Always wrong, but never in doubt.

Valerie in reply to fscarn. | July 16, 2019 at 2:47 pm

McCarthy was a demagogue who went too far with his accusations of Communism, and was finally pulled up by Joseph Nye Welch, chief counsel for the United States Army for slandering a lawyer-staffer at Welch’s law firm. He famously asked,

“At long last, have you left no sense of decency?”

When somebody finally said it, that was the end of McCarthy’s credibility.

Barry in reply to Valerie. | July 16, 2019 at 4:05 pm

          “…who went too far…”

Any clear understanding of history would tell you McCarthy didn’t go nearly far enough.

Milhouse in reply to Valerie. | July 16, 2019 at 4:56 pm

That was the narrative about McCarthy, but did he in fact go too far? If he did, then how is it that nobody can seem to name one person whom he falsely accused? Fred Fisher had, in fact, been a member of the National Lawyers Guild, exactly as McCarthy said. Welch admitted it. His entire point was that McCarthy should not have made this public because Fisher was a young man with his future in front of him. That seems not very substantial. To this day, does anyone know whether Fisher ever gave up his youthful communist ideals, or whether he carried them with him through his legal career?

The Commiecrat party has proven him correct, that feat they managed to do on their own.

BTW, it’s not Trump who took the bait but the Squad. Trump threw gasoline on the Dems’ infighting. Just stand back and enjoy ensuing self-emolation. This has to be very disconcerting to Dem voters.

If Graham wants to help, enough with his accounts of how he advised the Trump privately while admonishing him for being Trump. That act is getting old and tired.

Pssst, AOC, McCarthy wasn’t wrong.

Excerpt,

The Venona Papers also indicated that the Communist Party of America was actively assisting Soviet spies in their actions against the US. This involvement is why there were so many persecutions of the Communist party in the US. Many people, myself included, would say that McCarthy went to [sic, too] far in oppressing a political party [you know, Democrats, the Anti-America party], because political freedom is important, but it would be wrong to say that there was no direct and dangerous connection between the CPA and the KGB.

Whether or not there was any real threat to the US from the Communist party is a subject for debate. But what isn’t debatable is that the Soviet Union was actively seeking to infiltrate, subvert, and damage the US as a nation and a political system, and that they had been succeeding in doing so to a great extent throughout much of the Cold War. So in that regard Joseph McCarthy was wise to be afraid of their influence. Whether or not his actions were appropriate or “right” is another story entirely.

Joseph McCarthy was right, and we need to do EVERYTHING we can to eliminate Socialism and Communism from our government, beginning at the top: get rid of extra-government oversight agencies: NAFTA, USMCA, DoEd, DoComm, etc.

Hmm ,McCarthy, “There are Communists in the State Department” today, “Yep, there and once heading the CIA.” McCarthy gets a check.

McCarthy, “There are Communists in Hollywood.” Today, “Yep, stupid ones in public, smarter ones in Corporations, but they’re there.” McCarthy gets a check there.

McCarthy, “They’re in our scbools.” Today check! There in our newspapers, Today, check!

The list is long and we find he was mostly correct.

    TX-rifraph in reply to Cogsys. | July 16, 2019 at 9:48 am

There was a difference back then — McCarthy was trying to get the hidden Communists out into the open. Today, they are proud to be out in the open with their policies but not the obvious label. Graham is simply pointing out the obvious.

If AOC could gain 25 points in IQ, should could rise to the level of clueless.

The Squad’s aim it to Crash the System.

Everything they do makes perfect sense if you recognize that fact. The Green New Deal – Crash. 30 million new Illegal Aliens – Crash. Medicare for All – Crash.

Once things crash – the Left puts it all together again. And, Islam would rejoice for centuries if the Christian USA crashed.

Graham got one right. Good for him. He’s still John McCain lite and can’t be trusted.

I’m surprised she even knows about McCarthy, let alone the 1950s.

Meet AOC’S brain. She works for her Chief of Staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, he doesn’t work for her. Most people don’t seem to understand what the Justice Democrats are. They are a well financed operation that simply recruits candidates to front for them. AOC is on video saying that her brother put in the application for her audition, and she was surprised she was accepted. It’s no secret; she seems kind of proud of it.

In other words the Justice Democrats held a casting call. I guess they found that she was photogenic enough (personally I don’t see it) and malleable enough to put up as a candidate. But she’s just the front. They don’t care if she has a career or not. There’s a permanent organization with permanent objectives and she’s expendable as are all the pseudo pols fronting for them. If you’re old enough think of the band Milli Vanilli. They were two guys selected for a certain look and all they did was lip synch.

I don’t even think that AOC handles her own twitter feed. That’s incoherent, but not nearly as incoherent and insensible as when AOC has to speak for herself.

Normally I would find this kind of thing ominous and threatening. But Chakrabarti is no Einstein either. He admitted to the WaPo that the “Green New Deal” has nothing to do with global warming but is simply a way to take over the economy and restructure it from top to bottom. In other words burn down what’s left of free market capitalism and usher in socialism.

Thanks for giving away the game, Chakrabarti!

The Packetman in reply to Virginia42. | July 16, 2019 at 1:53 pm

I can only think of that scene in “Wrath of Khan” where Kirk is trying to bait Khan to follow him into the nebula:

Trump: Hey, AOC I’m laughing at the superior intellect.
AOC: Full speed ahead! Damn you!!

That sounds like sane, rational advice.

It’s ridiculous advice. Even worse, irrelevant.

They are American citizens. They won an election. Take on their policies

And that’s why. The fundamental premises are dead wrong. Pretending that they have rational policies which can be handled in a rational manner is madness. And playing that game would be a losing move for DJT, because the war is not actually about policies; they don’t really have any. Open borders and free everything for everybody aren’t policies, they’re childish fantasies. The Gang of Four aren’t attacking the President for his policies, they’re attacking him for Obama’s policies, and pretending they’re his. This is not a rational process, and it can’t be treated like one. The man who makes that mistake shackles himself to an anchor before the fight’s even begun.

The President seems to be handling the D’rats perfectly. Repubs trying to tell him how to do it are like advisers telling Michaelangelo that the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel would be better if he had somebody add some track lighting. The best things to do are let the D’rats know the R’s are guarding their President’s back, and then sit back and take notes as they watch a master at work.

It’s America’s misfortune that we didn’t have somebody able to bring the fight to the disgusting D’rats at least sixty years ago, rather than just sitting back and looking dignified while playing the punching bag.

“The left is currently in meltdown mode over some (rather carelessly worded) tweets”

It’s Fuzzy’s analysis that is careless.

He deliberately wrote tweets that were in no way racist or xenophobic but were written so that Democrats would by knee jerk reaction run the same tired playbook of calling them racist.

Everyone in flyover country is tired of this playbook. It’s only so called elites who still clutch their pearls on this stuff.

What he said was – effectively – if you don’t think America is any good, go back to Somalia and build a better country and then come back here and show us how it’s done.

He made Ilhan Omar look like what she is – an ingrate.

And he made all the press and all the Democrats double down and defend her. He defended Pelosi from charges of racism because she criticized them – see what he did there? Linked to the fact that #1 elected Democrat is not a racist for criticizing Omar.

Then he criticized Omar and everyone called him racist. Everyone who is not a coastal elite pearl clutcher agrees she is an un-American ingrate.

And she becomes the face of the Democratic Party as she sucks up all the Democratic Party oxygen. She has a 9% approval rating among independents.

Please, Dems, go all in on her.

All the flak you are hearing from the press is just like all the flak a bomber feels when it’s directly over the target. Tweet bomb away!

Yeah, it takes nerves of steel to fly that B-17 over the target, and draw all that fire, and not back down – not everyone is up for it.

Trump is the lead bomber drawing all the fire. And I am loving it. Tweet away.

smalltownoklahoman in reply to PrincetonAl. | July 16, 2019 at 12:25 pm

Yes, ingrate is the perfect word for Omar, I’ve thought that about her a time or two myself. If she had never been brought over here to the USA and had been left in Somalia she never would have had the opportunities to make something of herself that she currently enjoys. Heck there’s a fair chance she wouldn’t even be alive right now had she not come to America as a child given that Somalia was going through quite a bit of turmoil during the years she was growing up.

Milhouse in reply to PrincetonAl. | July 16, 2019 at 5:00 pm

But he didn’t just say that to Omar. He said it to four women, three of whom came from America. How can you possibly defend his telling those three to go back where they came from? Can’t you see that this is just as offensive and nonsensical as telling Trump himself to go back to his native country? And just as stupid as referring to revolutionaries taking over the airports? It was an own goal, and completely unnecessary. These women are communists; attack them for that.

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | July 16, 2019 at 7:31 pm

      “How can you possibly defend…”

He made it clear, they are free to leave. Those 4, like 99% of the democrat party are anti-Americans intent upon destroying freedom and liberty. Trump defends that while you wish to cry about it.

Milhouse in reply to Barry. | July 18, 2019 at 10:32 am

He didn’t say they were free to leave. He said they should go back to the country they came from. Which is this country. How can you defend that?

      txvet2 in reply to Milhouse. | July 17, 2019 at 2:05 am

As Rush pointed out today, this is hardly original. Some years ago, “Love it or leave it” bumper stickers were quite the fad.

        Milhouse in reply to txvet2. | July 18, 2019 at 10:34 am

Again, he didn’t say that. If he’d told them to go to Venezuela I’d be all for it. But you can’t tell someone who’s from this country to go back to the country she came from. Because that’s here. It’s exactly the same as telling Trump himself to go back to his native country.

One thing that has emerged from the most recent Trump-Squad Tweet firestorm – indeed, the entire Trump presidency – is how many conservatives have internalized the communist worldview to the point that we sometimes uncritically accept it when we should fight it tooth and nail. In this latest dust up even usually sensible folks like John Hinderaker at Powerline have accepted the MSM/DNC axis’ interpretation without giving it much consideration.

https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2019/07/a-blunder-of-epic-proportions.php

Part of that internalizing is because communism is the default position of academia and the media. It is as prevalent as the noonday sun in the Sahara Desert and just as hard to avoid. Just try (for example) to find a major player in Hollywood who is openly critical of “democratic socialism” ( the kissing cousin of national and international socialism). The few willing to speak out against it – or even avoid endorsing it – are few indeed. Academia is hardly any better, where hyperventilating about “white privilege” (a racist concept straight out of the Nazi playbook) is all the fashion.

I am not suggesting that everything Trump says or does is golden. But the next time anyone finds themselves echoing the MSM/DNC axis line on Trump, stop and ask yourself: is this really true? I have been guilty of this myself: for years I accepted the communist spin that McCarthy was a dangerous demagogue, and it wasn’t until that I looked at the evidence for myself that I realized that I had been snookered by men and women with an evil worldview.

Did Trump or did he not tell four women, three of whom come from this country, that if they don’t like America they should go back where they came from? Which country does he think those three should go back to? The only possible answer is that this was an embarrassing mistake, just like the airport revolutionaries. Accept it and move on.

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | July 16, 2019 at 7:42 pm

The only thing embarrassing is your constant attempt to help the commies on the left.

“IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY HERE, YOU CAN LEAVE!”
      https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1150874781744607232

      https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1150381395078000643

Nothing wrong with suggesting they go back. The three born here could go back to the shitholes their parents left.

We lose when people like you roll over for the commies, belly up.

Milhouse in reply to Barry. | July 18, 2019 at 10:37 am

What have their parents got to do with it? If someone told Trump to go back where he came from, would you understand that to mean Germany or Scotland?! Or would you think “This person thinks Queens is another country”?

You left out an important part of what Trump said. He said they should go back to their countries, fix the problems in their countries, and then tell us how it should be done. That should not have been omitted.

No, Trump’s Tweets were not in error. Ask the Squad how they can claim to pledge allegiance to America one minute and the next want to turn America into some weird hybrid of North Korea, Iran, and Mexico. Ask them how they can raise their right hands, swear to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic, and then work to destroy the Constitution as soon as they lower their right hands. How are their words and actions any different than someone whose loyalty is with a hostile foreign power seeking to destroy America?

If the Squad can bring themselves to say “America is not as bad as some other places in the world”, then my argument would lose steam. But I don’t think they can, since it is an article of faith among communists that no country in history is worse than greedy, capitalist, racist, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic, Islamophobic (I hope I haven’t left anything out!) AmeriKKKa. So let these “citizens of the world” or wherever the heck they pledge their real allegiance to have the (cough) benefit (cough cough) of their magnificent presence.

As a teen and throughout most of my life I had little in common with people my own age. I found older people to be goldmines of knowledge and wisdom.

Several of those people were entangled to varying degrees in McCarthyism.

I really dislike the rise of doxing and general attitudes that it is OK to deny people due process. We see this attitude among lots of Dems, especially the far left. While Gibsons are getting justice, there are very large numbers of people whose civil rights have been violated, and the perps have not been held accountable.

I share your observations. I guess that is the foundation for the old adage, “Children should be seen and not heard.” A lifetime of trials and tribulations is typically the basis for wisdom.

Does anybody think a person who isn’t even 30 and whose vocation was pouring beer into the glasses of patrons after getting pieces of paper from Diploma Mills attesting to some measure of intelligence, has much wisdom? She sure has a big mouth and hasn’t yet learned that is “Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt.”

She’ll be a on term politician if the people of her district, having been totally embarrassed by permitting her to be elected by not showing up at the ballot box, DO THEIR FREAKING JOB AND VOTE.

But they ARE a bunch of Communists. Communist dullards.

Razorfist lays it out all too well, McCarthy was right. Well, sort of. What with how he was a Senator and the trials in question were before the HOUSE Unamerican Activities Committee. Slight little bump in the narrative there, but that never stopped Hollywood before.

The Army-McCarthy hearings were in the senate.

the one thing the democrats are really good at is projection, the democrats have already brought back McCarthyism, look at their committees in congress investigating everything Trump.

What Trump’s tweet did was to force the mainstream Dems into defending the “America Hating Squad”, or to allow them to attempt to defend themselves. In the meantime, it draws out every anti-Trump Congress Critter into the light. Politically, this makes it much harder for the Democrat 2020 candidates to run as moderates in the general election and sets uo RINOs for primary challenges.

The Obama decade was a total disaster, for this nation. Publicly, we tripped on down the socialist path with Obamacare and welfare expansion. We saw the continued invasion of this nation by illegal aliens. We saw a souring of race relations [white supremacist organizations were all but extinct in 2008. They were back in force by 2016. And we saw the rise of black supremacist organizations at the same time]. Obama foreign policy destabilized the Muslim world and brought about the rise of ISIS and the Syrian Civil War. We saw the Administration wage an active war against free enterprise and the economy. Behind the scenes we saw the rise of a neo-totalitarian state including secret police and universal {illegal] domestic surveillance. And, the common folk know all of this. Running as an Obama socialist is not going to be a positive in 2020.

Trump gets elected and the liberal Progressives and Establishment members do everything that they can to maintain the Obama status quo. And, Graham was one of those. I find it hard to believe that Graham has had an epiphany. Watch him closely and you will see the Establishment wolf peaking out from the Trumpian suit that he is now sporting.

I’m certainly not Graham’s admirer but am completely certain that, given the opportunity for a verbal skirmish, there would be nothing left of her.

Whoever plans to succeed her ought to have no problem getting elected, so long as they kiss the right rings and make appropriate pledges.

Given what we know now, McCarthy was not a communist asset, the news media were, and helped the communists pretend that McCarthy had been “discredited” when in fact he had not been

I agree that McCarthy has been in part vindicated, but that does not make up for all the people he ruined who were likely not guilty. He painted with far too broad a brush.

        I agree with your take.

Name the people that McCarthy accused that were not guilty.

Have you studied this? Or just believe what you’ve been told by the left?

McCarthy was as big a shit as Washington ever spawned. Nevertheless, he was more right than wrong about the Communists.

One could certainly argue that Tailgunner Joe’s heavy-handed and generally disreputable tactics actually assisted the Communist program of infiltration, by rendering all anti-Communists odious in both public and political perception. But that didn’t make him wrong.

          “One could certainly argue…”

Sure, you can argue all manner of outright falsehoods. McCarthy was overwhelmingly correct and it was the fools that refused to listen that were wrong. We still wrestle with that legacy of foolishness today. The commies won. They won the day because too many people didn’t want to know what was under the rock, much less get their soft hands dirty turning it over. They preferred blindness to freedom. They’re still with us…

” McCarthy sought to avoid naming names publicly when possible, using numbered cases instead of names in public session. He preferred to name his suspects only in executive session, in order to protect those who might have been erroneously identified by the FBI, State Department Security, Army counterintelligence, etc. “[I]t would be improper to make the names public until the appropriate Senate committee can meet in executive session and get them,” explained McCarthy. “If we should label one man a Communist when he is not a Communist I think it would be too bad.” ”

all the people he ruined who were likely not guilty.

That’s what I’ve been hearing all my life, but were there any such people? How is it that nobody can seem to name any of them?

A college graduate, member of Congress uses the term “they got nothing.”

Is that Joe McCarthyism ?
