Klobuchar frames herself as the Democrat alternative to Democratic Socialism

Blasphemy in a party lurching hard left: “No, I am not for free four-year college for all”

As the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates move closer to socialism and provide free everything for everyone, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar has started to present herself as an almost moderate.

During a CNN town hall, Klobuchar broke away from the others when she declared that America is not ready for Medicare for All, not for free four year college, and brushed aside the Green New Deal.

I’ve seen many publications describe Klobuchar as pragmatic. As a full blown libertarian, I cannot call her pragmatic, but it is nice to see a Democrat actually giving thought to the problems we face rather than throwing money at them or ignoring them.

Klobuchar described “America’s growing debt as a major constraint on policymaking.” We have hit $22 trillion and it goes up every second of the day. This lack of money obviously places these socialist dreams at a stalemate. From Reason:

The most striking example of Klobuchar’s relatively disciplined stance came during a question posed by a college student, Griffin Sinclair-Wingate, who said he graduated from college in 2017 and pays more towards his student loans each month than his rent. He asked whether she would support free four-year college tuition for all, including for undocumented and formerly incarcerated individuals.

After a bit of meandering about wanting to make it easier for college grads to refinance their student loan debt and called for expanding eligibility for federal Pell grants, Klobuchar gave a straight answer.

“No, I am not for free four-year college for all,” Klobuchar said. “If I was a magic genie and could give that to everyone and we could afford it, I would…I’ve gotta tell the truth. We have a mountain of debt that the Trump administration keeps making worse and worse, and I don’t want to leave that on the shoulders of these kids too.”

If America provides a free tuition to all college bound people then the debt will grow even more, which will affect them in the future. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who jumped into the race this morning, estimated in 2016 that it would cost the government $75 billion a year to provide free tuition.

Klobuchar didn’t squash the idea of Medicare for All, but instead believes it would work in the near future. She explained that “her focus would be on improving the Affordable Care Act, expanding both Medicare and Medicaid and creating a public option.”

She praised the Green New Deal presented by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but stressed to everyone that legislation goes through many changes before it becomes law. She called the details “aspirations,” but “we know there’s going to be compromises.”

Like Eric Boehm wrote at Reason, Klobuchar is in no way a fiscal conservative. She wants to expand government, implement more programs to battle against climate change. The senator promised to re-enter the Paris climate deal and implement all the “clean power rules” from the previous administration. Despite her views on the debt, she wants to continue spending on healthcare and education.

However, like I said above, it’s refreshing to hear a Democrat actually think about policy instead of relying on socialism to solve problems.

Someone who went to college should not expect people who did not go to college to pay for it.

Its all propaganda by the “academic elite” to transfer taxpayer earned money to the colleges and universities. Easily 25% of the majors offered do nothing to secure productive employment. The only thing some are good for is teaching the useless stuff to others. Its a self-supporting system, except that it needs outside funding.

When I see professors and their support people taking pay cuts to keep the school going because the product is so necessary to society, I will start considering their situation. The time might come when specific industry groups provide scholarships to develop an employee base, or even operate their own schools to teach what is needed. I occasionally pass by such a place where people are taught the operation of heavy equipment and cranes. It appears to be run by some partnership that includes construction companies and associated unions. That model may be the answer.

Free to anyone who shows up with a dream is not.

General Dynamics Electric Boat has quite a few pipelines going with technical high schools and community colleges in CT and RI to train up individuals for profitable careers in the submarine-building business, from trades to engineering.

They shouldn’t expect someone who did go to college to pay for it, either. They have their own college bills to pay; that’s quite enough without tacking on somebody else’s too.

Still not voting for her if she gets the nomination, but that’s the smart thing to do.
About 40% of voters are registered independent, and if logic and common sense still mean anything, they should not be very happy about the leftist extremism that we are seeing today.

However, like I said above, it’s refreshing to hear a Democrat actually think about policy instead of relying on socialism to solve problems.

Or, even more true: …instead of relying on socialism feelings to solve problems.

Given the party affiliation, would you trust her to keep to the stance she is stating now? I certainly wouldn’t.

The left march in lockstep, and they have no problem to portray themselves as conservative or moderates to get elected, then once in they are at least 90% in agreement with the party line. They are very good at acting as if they are not socialists, but the National Socialist party AKA Democrats have been pushing (progressive) toward socialism since FDR.

She endorsed the so called “New Green Deal”, flush her down the toilet America.

Don’t believe her. She has a long history of talking like a moderate and voting like a radical.

PS: Call it “taqiyah”

I think Jim Webb tried to run on that platform last time. You can see how far it got him. But good luck to her!

She praised the Green New Deal presented by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, but stressed to everyone that legislation goes through many changes before it becomes law. She called the details “aspirations,” but “we know there’s going to be compromises.”

The doesn’t mean she’s brushing it aside. I read it to mean that she knows perfectly well that it’s a pig, but she supports it anyway.

I know it’s expecting way too much because this is CNN….but jeez. After she clumsily made her statement, it should have been tested. Because it rings a bogus (lie). I mean, fer chrissake if she supports to Green New Deal which makes so many things other than education free, that conflict should have been questioned.

And another part of the new hard left progressivism is defining so many new things (not in the Constitution) as RIGHTS. So why not a follow up about that idea…”Is education a right?”

Nah, she’ll beat the other candidates like she beats her staffers (rimshot)

She says she supports the GND; she has to say that for now. If she were elected she’ll still support it in whatever form it reaches her desk, and then she’ll sign it. And then she’ll sign the next version, and the next.

She’s a “python” Democrat: she doesn’t have to eat you all at once…

This woman showed during the Kavanaugh hearing that she is pure evil. Not a good person by any means and drunk on the corruption of power.

Amy campaigns as a moderate but votes as a left-liberal. She has zero chance of getting through the primary, zero.

“Griffin Sinclair-Wingate, who said he graduated from college in 2017 and pays more towards his student loans each month than his rent.”

Does anyone know what would happen if the bad decisions to spend this kind of money on college were all passed to the taxpayer? I am sure tuition would go down right?

I went to Public colleges because the tuition was paid for by ME! If people want to go to the fanciest public college they can go then they should be responsible for PAYING for it.

I am tired of CHILDREN who spent as much as they could possibly spend to get a degree at some cushy college complaining that someone else should pay for their luxury.
