Democrat Privilege: Virginia Gov and AG likely to survive Blackface Scandals

What a difference going on groveling apology tours can make for Democrats.

Results from two recent Virginia polls show that Gov. Ralph Northam and AG Mark Herring have managed to survive the blackface scandals that rocked the state earlier this month. The sexual assault allegations against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, however, have divided the state on his fate.

CNN digs into the numbers:

Virginians are more likely to want their governor and attorney general to remain in office rather than resign over their past appearances in blackface, but they are split over whether their lieutenant governor should step down in light of sexual assault allegations, a new Quinnipiac University poll finds.

A 48% plurality of voters in the commonwealth say Gov. Ralph Northam should not resign while 42% say he should. Nearly two-thirds (65%) say he should not be impeached, though just 39% approve of the way he is handling his job while 44% disapprove.

[…]

Thirty-six percent say [Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax] should resign and 36% say he should remain in office, while 28% don’t say either way. There are more undecided Democrats (32%) than Republicans (21%) or independents (25%).

Still, 37% say they believe Fairfax’s accusers over his denials. Twelve percent believe Fairfax and 51% are undecided. There is almost no party gap on believing Fairfax’s accusers, though Democrats are a bit more apt to say they believe Fairfax than are Republicans or independents.

And a majority of Virginia voters (54%) say Attorney General Mark Herring, a Democrat, should not resign while 22% say he should after he also admitted to once wearing blackface in the early 1980s.

An Ipsos/U-Va. poll showed similar results:

Of the three top Democrats, the new polls out Wednesday show Fairfax may be in the most peril. While a plurality in the Quinnipiac poll say Northam shouldn’t resign, and a 54 percent majority say Herring should remain in office — voters are split on Fairfax: 36 percent say the lieutenant governor should resign, and 36 percent say he shouldn’t.

In the Ipsos/U-Va. poll, more voters say Fairfax should resign, 35 percent, than say he shouldn’t, 25 percent. But roughly a third, 34 percent, say they aren’t sure.

Though Northam and Herring appear to have survived the backlash over their confessions, Democrats will have to be very careful not to put too much pressure on Fairfax to step aside in the era of #MeToo. It would give off a bad visual for the two white politicians with blackface issues in their past to skate free while the black politician gets targeted for removal from office over so-far-unproven sexual assault allegations.

The Quinnipiac poll shows it is black voters more than any other voting bloc who want all three to stay in office. Again from CNN:

Black voters are more apt to say each of the three should remain in office than resign (56% say Northam should not resign, 49% say so about Fairfax, 62% about Herring).

There are a number of things we can perhaps glean from these polls.

Could it be Virginia voters have had time to catch their breath, review all the publicly available information, and determine that in Northam’s and Herring’s cases both have been apologetic and contrite enough about racially insensitive incidents that occurred over 30 years ago? It’s possible.

Could it be Virginia voters have decided in Fairfax’s case that although the allegations (which, unlike Northam’s and Herring’s, are criminal in nature) are deeply disturbing he deserves the benefit of due process? Maybe.

Or could it simply be that Virginians have decided to hypocritically give Democrats the types of second chances that Republicans are only rarely allowed? That scenario is far more likely.

Especially when you consider how much emphasis national and local reporting has put on the fact that all three of the Democrats either resigning or being forced out of office means an evil Republican would be next in line to govern over the state.

The one issue that has been lost in all the coverage and speculation surrounding these scandals is that Gov. Northam’s extreme position on late-term abortion remains unchanged.

If Democrats manage to overcome the bad optics from all of these scandals and win enough seats to take control of both the state house and senate in the fall elections, that means Kathy Tran or someone like her can push through similar pro-abortion legislation which would effectively legalize infanticide-on-demand in the state.

Virginia Republicans cannot let this to happen.

Not surprising. Aside from the fact that they have adopted a “search and destroy” position with respect to unborn children, Democrats simply do not believe that they should be held to same standards the proles have to. Certainly no one in the media will hold them accountable.

So long as a majority of Virginia voters are obsessed with abortion and getting “free stuff” Democrats will continue in power.

I figured that Fairfax will hang, with the other two skating. That is a blow to political correctness, which I see as a win. It is also a blow to those who like to falsely claim racism for fun and profit, another win.

Next time the other two run for office, they will probably be shot down, and if they are not, that is yet another blow to PC.

I would not count on any of those things happpening. As evidence of rape and sexual assault piled up against William Jefferson Clinton he became a Democrat rockstar. Aside from a few mid-level Soviet bureaucrats ( journalists and Hollywood bigwigs) the MeToo scandal has barely touched the Soviet Central Committee that is the Washington Democrats. Al Franken is the only high-ranking Soviet official to resign, and that was only because Democrats wanted to club Roy Moore into losing the Alabama US Senate seat.

I kind of laughed to myself when people were speculating what if three top Democrats resign and a Republican becomes Gov.

How about the reality that Democrats don’t have to resign and you can complaetely skip that as was proved here.

The reality is it is better for these guys to stay the face of Democrats to the voters and hope some sanity comes to the next election.

“speculating what if three top Democrats resign and a Republican becomes Gov”

That would have been the best outcome, but I thought it was unlikely.

The consolation prize has been watching Democrats tear themselves apart over their beloved political correctness. I really am tired of PC, and I think that Dems just might see the downside now. Up until this they have in large part gotten away with using PC to their advantage.

This again show how much power legacy media still have over political events in terms of the way they cover (or don’t cover them).

With Republicans, they assign multiple reporters to track down and harass Republican party leaders/legislators demanding they denounce the offender or be tarred with the same opprobrium – and they also in concerted fashion stack their commentary shows with “experts” and pundits who will harp the same lines as why this is unacceptable and why the offender must be ritually driven out into the wilderness. And keep harping. Lots of emotion and moral outrage.

This is the model that notably started with George Allen and the manufactured “macaca” controversy in 2006 that took him down.

With Democrats, the coverage is at a emotionally-detached distance of how anguished the Democrats are that this might have happened, lots of justifications, and dread as to whether this might help those despicable Republicans – looking for mitigating factors.

It would be amusing how this is playing out if you didn’t live in this country, or care about what is happening to it.

Faced by having to dump one of their own, Democrats were already reluctant to do anything, and then, when another of their own is accused of serious sexual assault—supposedly the # 1 capital charge that could be made against a public figure, they got deathly quiet. When the third of their own admitted to be guilty of the same breach of public demeanor as the first, they clearly decided they were not going to permit a wholesale slaughter of progressive Democrats, and now they want to pretend these incidents never happened. Unlike the accusations made against conservative Republicans, about whom similar (and unsubstantiated) accusations will NEVER be allowed to die.

Hypocrites! But I wonder if any Democrat voters will be swayed by this or similar incidents and change their votes? Not many.

I have to say, the only issue at all was whether Democratic Party standards can or will or should be applied to Democratic Party politicians in office. It was not an issue of society’s standards generally, it was an issue of the standards Democrats have assigned to Republicans. The resulting answer is “no”.

Given this answer, we then come to the general societal question of, should an office-holder be impeached for racial insensitivity in his college yearbook, which he did long before entering public office? History and precedent suggest, hell no. Should he be “forced” to resign? There is no such mechanism. Should he resign voluntarily? Only if he feels like it. There is no other issue. They’re being hypocrites on the issue, we know, they know we know, and have stopped caring. Thus the issue is over forevermore.

At least we have clarity.

Hell, these guys are just using the Bill Clinton playbook. Just tough it out. Everybody gets bored eventually. Time to move on. Nothing to see here.

Every day it becomes clearer…Democrat politicians AND their voters are dirtbags

Liberals, in general, and Democrats, in particular, never let a little thing like honor and responsibility come between them and power. Republican politicians resign from office for failing to return a library book, when that person was 15 yoa. But, Dem politicos will fight to the death in the face of video evidence of serious wrong doing.

My personal opinion is that none of these men should resign. The blackface incidents are both insignificant and stale. The claims of sexual assault are unsupported by witnesses or other evidence.

Kurt sums it up.

Let’s review. Liberals are super-mad about the original agreement that bound us together as a country because things like the Electoral College and the Bill of Rights prevent them from having absolute power over us. They now want to change our prenup. Hard pass, golddiggers.

what fairfax needs to do now is have two nigerians in MAGA hats lightly jostle him and put a noose gently around his neck, and then yell “TRUMP” …

Rick the Curmudgeon | February 21, 2019 at 9:55 pm

Well now that this story has broken, their chances of skating on the Blackface have increased dramatically:
https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/politics/2019/02/20/tn-gov-bill-lee-kappa-alpha-old-south-party-auburn/2904953002/

As soon as the Northam/Fairfax/Herring faux pas surfaced, there was a mad scramble through college yearbooks in search of indiscretions by sitting Republican governors, and this story floated to the top.

Now the Republicans can’t pursue the Virginia Three without going after Tennessee Lee. All skate or nobody skates. In any case, our brand-new “Republican” Governor is now a lame duck.

Well played Democrats. Well played.

You should have mentioned that it was about wearing a Confederate uniform, not blackface. (To which my reaction is, what’s next, civil war re-enactments?)

I am not from the south, but I still find attacks on statues of historical figures distasteful. Regardless of some people’s dislike, most of which I view as scheming to fluff egos, they are our collective history.

Another thing, I think that even though people came here as slaves, and I am not minimizing the indignity of being a slave, that in the end they ended up far better off than their ancestors who were left in Africa.

GOP will not “go after” the Virginia three. It is up to the Dems to police themselves.

Their hypocrisy will not go unnoticed regardless of what happens in Tennessee.

A not-so-funny story about blackface
A not-so-funny story about blackface
“The news is full of blackface pictures. There can be no debate about whether or not such images are racist and lhurtful. They are,” wrote editor-in-chief Nicole Carroll in a statement published on the paper’s website. “It was recently brought to my attention that I was involved in publishing such a photo when I was in college. I am sorry for the hurt I caused back then and the hurt it will cause today.”
The image in question was unearthed by the Arizona Republic as part of a nationwide review of yearbooks by Gannett-run papers — a project that was prompted by the recently discovered blackface photo from Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s medical school yearbook. (The Republic, like USA Today, is owned by Gannett.)

The quintessential element of those suffering the Mental Disorder known as liberalism is HYPOCRISY and the belief that there are two sets of rules: One for them and another for everybody else.

The Demtards found that using #MeToo and other scapegoating memes ultimately aimed at President Trump while demonstrating a projected modicum of ethics and reverance by serving up their own Useful Idiots like Al Franken and Harvey Weinstein, wasn’t working. So now the Demtards are resorting to their Ole Double Standard Routine that they can do ANYTHING with impunity because they are so virtuous and alturistic while Republicans and Conservatives are not.

Admittedly, they have the Socialist/Communist Media Complex of Alphabet Networks, Tabloid Presstitutes, and Social Media Censors on their team, but now and going forward, most everyone knows that facts and truth are not items to be found with them no matter the subject. Everybody knows the naked truth and they aren’t fooling anybody.

I’ve found that the old Rule-of-Thumb “If you want to know what the Democrats are up to, listen to what they’re accusing everybody else of” still holds true.
