UNC Prof Polls Students and Finds They Fear Reprisals from the ‘Progressive Police’

“This is a disgrace; and antithetical to a classic ‘liberal’ education”

This professor was shocked to learn that many students keep their mouths shut to avoid punishment from the left.

Campus Reform reports:

UNC prof slams ‘indoctrination,’ ‘progressive police’

A University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill professor slammed what he termed “indoctrination” and the “progressive police” at the school in a Thursday column.

UNC business professor Michael Jacobs argued that a substantial number of students at the school appear to be aware of a left-wing bias in a column for the Raleigh News & Observer.

Jacobs asked 40 Republican students at the school whether they thought they would be penalized for honestly answering an exam question, as opposed to attempting to satisfy the political beliefs of their professor. Thirty-eight out of the 40 students answered in the affirmative.

The professor expressed no surprise regarding the results, suggesting that his son, a former chair of the UNC College Republicans, as well as dozens of other students, teaching assistants, interns, etc., had articulated similar sentiments.

“One of my top MBA students, who I would categorize as moderate, recently told me that she will no longer participate in class discussions that involve social or political issues for fear of being branded by the ‘progressive police,’” the professor said.

Jacobs posed a similar question to students enrolled in his “Business, Politics and Public Policy” course, which contained 53 individuals from UNC, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark. The UNC students most strongly indicated that they would be penalized for answering a question honestly instead of parroting their professor’s beliefs.

“This is a disgrace; and antithetical to a classic ‘liberal’ education whereby students are supposed to be taught critical thinking,” Jacobs stated.

Perhaps it’s time for liberals to check their privilege?

Of course. Tyranny generates fear. That’s a feature, not a bug. The professor will be punished for letting the truth out and things will not improve.

Where has this professor been for 15 years?

Better late than never.
Truly, I am thankful whenever someone like this prof stands up and points out the truth, and we should all support those like him.

Nobody should be surprised at this. Even in my doctoral classes, I was roundly criticized for my Christian beliefs. I even had a fellow student scream in my face during a class, and the “professor” did nothing to stop it. A professor who had known me for only three weeks branded me a racist, in writing, because I refused to apologize for the accident of birth of being born white. I had only a couple of professors who did not criticize conservatives and/or Christians, but the sad part is that there were a lot of students who were conservative and/or Christian. Most of them were afraid to speak up for fear of being bullied, but I was stupid enough to believe that doctoral students would be reasonable. I was wrong about both the students and the professors.

For decades I counseled many students who did not agree with their far left instructors. These instructors are actually easy marks to get good grades because they value ideology over quality.

Students are best advised to find out how the instructor thinks, through published papers and talking with other students who have taken the classes. Then, in class discussions and in papers, you simply put forth the instructor’s own ideas with the instructor’s own justifications, and possibly make up some of your own as well, but always backing the instructor’s ideology.

You should NEVER state your true feelings in a class with an ideological left-wing instructor. Make it into a game of trying to seem even more ideologically pure than the nitwit instructor. Any student can get A’s from these shallow instructors, and have a good time doing it, by regurgitating their own ideas back at them.
