Virginia HS Teacher Fired for Refusing to Use Transgender Student’s Preferred Pronouns

Welcome to the brave new world. Embrace newspeak or suffer the consequences.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports:

Virginia high school teacher fired for refusing to use transgender student’s new pronouns

A Virginia high school teacher was fired Thursday for refusing to use a transgender student’s new pronouns, a case believed to be the first of its kind in the state.

After a four-hour hearing, the West Point School Board voted 5-0 to terminate Peter Vlaming, a French teacher at West Point High School who resisted administrators’ orders to use male pronouns to refer to a ninth-grade student who had undergone a gender transition. The board met in closed session for nearly an hour before the vote.

Like a similar transgender rights case in nearby Gloucester County that eventually reached the U.S. Supreme Court, Vlaming’s situation could present a novel legal case as public bodies continue to grapple with how to reconcile anti-discrimination policies with the rights of religious employees.

The high school in West Point, a town in King William County about an hour east of Richmond, has about 265 students.

Vlaming, 47, who had taught at the school for almost seven years after spending more than a decade in France, told his superiors his Christian faith prevented him from using male pronouns for a student he saw as female.

The student’s family informed the school system of the transition over the summer. Vlaming said he had the student in class the year before when the student identified as female.

Why even refer to it by any pronoun?

My preferred pronoun is ‘superincumbent’

a ninth-grade student who had undergone a gender transition.

. . .

. . . he had the student in class the year before when the student identified as female

The details could be important, though we’re not likely to hear them from the press.

The “transition” saga, whatever its merits, has been conceptually diluted by the SJWs and the press, in the same way as most of our political and social hot-button topics. This frivolous “identified” crap is relatively new.

We see the obfuscation above. “Identifying” as female is not at all the same thing as a “transition.” One is a fad, the other is a very real, tedious, and expensive medical and legal process.

After the tedious and expensive part is well under way, it’s just polite to use the patient’s preferred pronouns. But before that, when they merely “identify” as something they’re obviously not, they’re probably just jerking everybody around.

He should’ve just used it’s name instead.

“Boy” OR “Girl” .every human is either one or the other, anything else is phoney .

Who made these new pronoun rules, and by whose authority? Why are we letting the Left rewrite our language? Just say “no.”

Rather like the tongue not-so-much in cheek response others have offered.

You may now — in fact, you MUST — refer to my by my preferred, and self-identified, pronoun “Your Royal Majesty”.

Nothing else will suffice.

Any deviation will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the PC pretzel-twisted law.

Thank you very much.
