Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg remains hospitalized after she fell in her office, which caused her to break three ribs. From USA Today:
Ginsburg, 85, went home after the fall but continued to experience “discomfort overnight” and went to George Washington Hospital early Thursday. Tests revealed she fractured three ribs and she “was admitted for observation and treatment,” according to the statement.
Unfortunately, at her age, it’s hard for the body to recover from these serious injuries.

The only actual difference was that the GOP had two less gop senators for the Kavanaugh vote, and therefore had some hope of derailing the nomination with fake sexual assault claim.
She will be forced now to move into an assisted living environment. And, with a fall like this, 50% of seniors are dead within a year.

When one no longer is bearing the weight of an office but is a weight on the office, then I think it behooves an individual to recognize as much and retire. Bless Justice Ginsburg that her discomfort may be eased and restored to the health possible for her.

Broken ribs are very painful, I hope she recovers quickly.
She seems to be significantly more frail than would be expected based on her reported daily exercise routine.

The injury itself is bad but the recovery is where the pain really hits.
I hope her recovery is speedy and as pain free as possible.
At her age, the big danger for Justice Ginsburg is coming down with pneumonia due to the possibility of not being able to breathe forcibly enough to blow off sufficient water vapor from her lungs due to pain.
50% of Seniors that break bones in a bad fall are dead within a year. Of course, usually we are talking femurs and hips. And, RBG will get above average care.
She should count her blessings she’s not in the care of the NHS! Otherwise they might just kill her off based on the view its not in the publics interest to keep her alive.

In late-2022 or mid-2023, Thomas & Alito, each of whom will by then be in his mid-70s, come to DJT (yes, there will be a second term), announce their plans to retire, thereby giving the Don time to line up their respective replacements. Thomas & Alito condition their retirements on the Don’s promise to “settle all family business” (channeling M. Corleone), and to replace them with people in the mold of Scalia, with each nominee to be in his/her mid-40s. In time Roberts does the same, though he’ll be coming to President Mike Pence. An originalist bloc remains in place for decades creating solid precedents.
And in the meantime, pray for the health and security of the conservative justices!!

She is most fortunate that it was not a hip fracture. The elderly rarely fully recover from one of those, and quite often it leads to a much earlier death than otherwise.
I think it is a misstatement to say that people fall and break their hip, rather, the socket fails which causes the fall, as it most frequently occurs going down stairs where the force of deceleration is greater. It isn’t the fall which produces a poor outcome, rather the failing joint itself is a symptom of eroding conditions in general.
I bruised some ribs during an ungraceful motorcycle dismount, back in the 70s. It is amazing just how many things you never think about can be very painful with broken ribs. Heaven forbid you might sneeze or yawn. Need to cough? Sure hope not. Want to lay down on a bed? Or get up? Even laughing can become painful.
Rand Paul recently described the difficulties of his recovery from the vicious assault by a former neighbor, mainly from the fractured ribs.

last year cracked lower 3 ….course its where cats (I got 4) landed when jumping onto bed to cuddle me. yeah….that hurt. took about 6 months to heal fully.

The few seniors I’ve known who fell and broke ribs or a hip, died not from the break but pneumonia or an embolism that set in after the break. She’ll have top notch PT I’m sure, but it’ll be painful for her. I do wonder if she was holding out for “the wave” and this was partially an emotional collapse. I wish her well.
