Ruth Bader Ginsberg Hospitalized After She Breaks Three Ribs During a Fall

She fell in her office.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg remains hospitalized after she fell in her office, which caused her to break three ribs. From USA Today:

Ginsburg, 85, went home after the fall but continued to experience “discomfort overnight” and went to George Washington Hospital early Thursday. Tests revealed she fractured three ribs and she “was admitted for observation and treatment,” according to the statement.

Unfortunately, at her age, it’s hard for the body to recover from these serious injuries.

Now the left is really going to start coming unglued.

Is everyone ready for “Confirmation Hearings Theatre” again?

3 democrats voted in favor of Gorsuch
1 democrat voted in favor of Kavanaugh

Gorsuch had favorable votes from Donnely, Machin and Hienkamp. all red state senators up for reelection

The only actual difference was that the GOP had two less gop senators for the Kavanaugh vote, and therefore had some hope of derailing the nomination with fake sexual assault claim.

She will be forced now to move into an assisted living environment. And, with a fall like this, 50% of seniors are dead within a year.

She must have fallen on a pretty hard penumbra.

When one no longer is bearing the weight of an office but is a weight on the office, then I think it behooves an individual to recognize as much and retire. Bless Justice Ginsburg that her discomfort may be eased and restored to the health possible for her.

Your responce shows a great deal of class. I fear that I am unable to display such class. So I shall leave it at.this.

You give me too much credit. Any that I might have comes with great effort, especially with controversial situations and persons. And, sometimes, I do yield and let it rip!

She fell in 2012 and broke two ribs while in her office at the court. Reportedly, she didn’t tell anybody else for months.

Broken ribs are very painful, I hope she recovers quickly.

She seems to be significantly more frail than would be expected based on her reported daily exercise routine.

she apparently does a lot of strength exercises, Granted she is 85, so the normal person would be frail – but the strength exercises which she as done for 20+ years should have a more positive effect that what appears.

https://www.businessinsider.com/ruth-bader-ginsburgs-workout-routine-2018-6#the-workout-starts-with-a-5-minute-cardio-warm-up-followed-by-rotational-exercises-and-stretches-i-worked-out-for-a-little-more-than-an-hour-5

The injury itself is bad but the recovery is where the pain really hits.

I hope her recovery is speedy and as pain free as possible.

At her age, the big danger for Justice Ginsburg is coming down with pneumonia due to the possibility of not being able to breathe forcibly enough to blow off sufficient water vapor from her lungs due to pain.

50% of Seniors that break bones in a bad fall are dead within a year. Of course, usually we are talking femurs and hips. And, RBG will get above average care.

She should count her blessings she’s not in the care of the NHS! Otherwise they might just kill her off based on the view its not in the publics interest to keep her alive.

Just sayin! HAHAHAHA 🙂

She was holding out, betting on the Senate to swing left this last election.
Another poor decision on her part.

    Time wounds all heels.

fscarn in reply to NGAREADER. | November 8, 2018 at 11:00 am

Apart from her leftist written opinions, her cloudy thinking was on display in the first 6 years of the One’s terms when the Ds had control of the Senate. The Ds and she assumed that the Ds would always have control. Had she resigned by 2013/2014 Obama would have nominated another leftist who likely would have received Senate approval.*

*Hopefully the GOPers won’t be playing by the Marquess of Queensberry Rules ever again. With the treatment given to Bork, Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh (Roberts wasn’t roughed-up as much), the Rs should by now have learned their lessons. Even though the Rs treated Breyer, Ginsburg, Sotomayer, Kagan decently, the Ds took them for a ride when they could. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

Thomas, Alito, and Trump could execute a strategy here. In late-2022 or mid-2023, Thomas & Alito, each of whom will by then be in his mid-70s, come to DJT (yes, there will be a second term), announce their plans to retire, thereby giving the Don time to line up their respective replacements. Thomas & Alito condition their retirements on the Don’s promise to “settle all family business” (channeling M. Corleone), and to replace them with people in the mold of Scalia, with each nominee to be in his/her mid-40s. In time Roberts does the same, though he’ll be coming to President Mike Pence. An originalist bloc remains in place for decades creating solid precedents.

And in the meantime, pray for the health and security of the conservative justices!!

CKYoung in reply to fscarn. | November 8, 2018 at 7:38 pm

What did they have on Roberts? They knew ahead of time to let him go through. Then the legal pretzel he tied himself into saving obama care… twice.

Prayers for her recovery. God’s will be done.

This has to be very painful. Best wishes for a comfortable recovery.

This only goes to prove that sometimes living is harder than dying

broken ribs @ 85, with winter coming on…

and her osteoporosis isn’t helping either.

her outlook is not very sunny, IMHO, but we shall see. things tend to cascade in scenarios like hers.

She is most fortunate that it was not a hip fracture. The elderly rarely fully recover from one of those, and quite often it leads to a much earlier death than otherwise.

MajorWood in reply to jack burton. | November 8, 2018 at 11:06 am

I think it is a misstatement to say that people fall and break their hip, rather, the socket fails which causes the fall, as it most frequently occurs going down stairs where the force of deceleration is greater. It isn’t the fall which produces a poor outcome, rather the failing joint itself is a symptom of eroding conditions in general.

I bruised some ribs during an ungraceful motorcycle dismount, back in the 70s. It is amazing just how many things you never think about can be very painful with broken ribs. Heaven forbid you might sneeze or yawn. Need to cough? Sure hope not. Want to lay down on a bed? Or get up? Even laughing can become painful.

Rand Paul recently described the difficulties of his recovery from the vicious assault by a former neighbor, mainly from the fractured ribs.

Well, I guess when you’re 85 and keep a box of wine in your office, this kind of thing will happen. Seriously, though, I wish ill on no one and hope she will be all right.

UJ in reply to UJ. | November 8, 2018 at 12:23 pm

OK, down-voter. Just for special-little you, I will wish her ill. I assume that is the reason for your idiot down-vote. Now get back to your bridge. A bunch of illegals are trying to crash the gates.

MajorWood in reply to UJ. | November 10, 2018 at 11:21 am

I was reading the side of a 5 ltr box of wine and it stated that the box would last up to 5 weeks in the fridge. Uh, if you are buying wine in 5 ltr containers, I doubt it is lasting more than 2 days.

A few glasses of wine after a long day.

Hold the sympathy. If she had her way every person on here would be going to NHS not matter how well off financially. But in her case it would be Hopkins Mayo Sloan Kettering etc for free. Please

This will only serve to ramp up the extra legal activities of the liberals. If they lose anymore justices to moderate or conservative appointees, they are doomed.

I’m praying God lets President Trump appoint 9 out of 9 Supreme Court Justices!

Two down and seven to go.

Seriously, Thomas should think about retiring after the new sh!tlord Senate is seated. He’s 70; Trump should replace him with a 50 year old. Who knows when we’ll see another GOP president again?

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital in reply to thalesofmiletus. | November 8, 2018 at 4:01 pm

Yes. Remember when the Democrat Party had a straight rein of 20 years? (1933-1953)

        oldgoat36 in reply to thalesofmiletus. | November 8, 2018 at 4:05 pm

The left has already been floating the idea of stocking the Court with more justices once they get back all the power, and if the voter fraud moves, like in Florida with “lost and now found” ballots, is not stopped, the left will pull another couple of elections like Obama had with 110% turn out and 90% votes for the leftist…
I can see them doing just that to overcome their power on the Supreme Court.

I wonder who Clarence would recommend to replace himself. I have no enthusiasm for him to leave but 70 is 70 and if you’re not having fun at work then retiring and having some doing something else is an option.

tarheelkate in reply to NotKennedy. | November 8, 2018 at 8:03 pm

Who says Thomas isn’t having fun? My husband, almost 70, just went back to work. Trump, at 72, is working harder than the last guy, much younger than he.

Does anyone know where Harry Reid’s fitness machine is?

She is actually asleep in that picture. She has had eyeballs painted on her glasses to make her look awake.

Justice Ginsburg, please retire gracefully. Your legend as an anti-originality has been cemented for eternity. Don’t you think it is time?

But will she recuse herself in any case involving the Law Of Gravity?

The few seniors I’ve known who fell and broke ribs or a hip, died not from the break but pneumonia or an embolism that set in after the break. She’ll have top notch PT I’m sure, but it’ll be painful for her. I do wonder if she was holding out for “the wave” and this was partially an emotional collapse. I wish her well.

Tough old bird, but her flying days may be over.

Jim Acosta will report tonight that she was tripped by Kavanaugh.

buckeyeminuteman | November 8, 2018 at 4:22 pm

Heard on the names that Lefties were calling in to the hospital offering to donate a rib. Don’t know if that is possible, but it shows how bad they want to keep Trump from getting another Justice.

Whatever sympathy we may have, it’s still dishonest of her to camp on Supreme Court for political motives.

Oath: “and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties..”

If she is medically unfit to serve on the court, she should step down. Her loyalty should be to Justice, not a political party.

Edit

Its DISHONORABLE of Ginsburg to camp on the Supreme Court for political motives

(damn smartphone is always doing stuff no one asked it to do)

Don’t worry….your phone has reported your mistake to the authorities.

      (waves to Agent Garcia)

      Sorry about your vacation plans

Garcia: “Just when I thought I was out, Fen drags me back in.”

Hey, you’re the one who refused Hillary’s order to do a liquor store run. Don’t blame your reassignment on me.

For the record, I’d like to state that I was groped by whoever Trump appoints to replace RBG.

It was sometime back in ’92, plus or minus ten years. I don’t recall where or exactly when, or who else might have been there.
