REPORT: Google Employees Considered Hiding Conservative Media Sites from Search Results

“How many times did you see the Election now card with items from opinion blogs (Breitbart, Daily Caller) elevated next to legitimate news organizations? That’s something that can and should be fixed.” — Google Employee

According to an exclusive report from The Daily Caller, Google employees toyed with burying conservative media sites in search results after Trump’s election in 2016.

TDC obtained internal correspondence which showed employees considered targeting The Daily Caller and Breitbart, among other right-leaning media sites.

If they labeled conservative sites “opinion blogs,” those sites would tank in search results, as priority is given to news sites, or so the discussion went.

From TDC:

Communications obtained by TheDCNF show that internal Google discussions went beyond expressing remorse over Clinton’s loss to actually discussing ways Google could prevent Trump from winning again.

“This was an election of false equivalencies, and Google, sadly, had a hand in it,” Google engineer Scott Byer wrote in a Nov. 9, 2016, post reviewed by TheDCNF.

Byer falsely labeled The Daily Caller and Breitbart as “opinion blogs” and urged his coworkers to reduce their visibility in search results.

“How many times did you see the Election now card with items from opinion blogs (Breitbart, Daily Caller) elevated next to legitimate news organizations? That’s something that can and should be fixed,” Byer wrote.

“I think we have a responsibility to expose the quality and truthfulness of sources – because not doing so hides real information under loud noises,” he continued.

“Beyond that, let’s concentrate on teaching critical thinking. A little bit of that would go a long way. Let’s make sure that we reverse things in four years – demographics will be on our side.”

Some of Byer’s colleagues expressed concern that manipulating search results could backfire and suggested alternative measures.

I’ve a friend who bought a new iPhone – this being his first smartphone/device beyond a desktop. He’s unfamiliar with tech etc. Someone told him to make a google drive account. He made a google drive account. Not one day later his new iphone email account was jammed full of democrat party political ads. Most of that spam being from Nancy Pelosi and other California democrats. He’s an independent political type from Texas, but living in NorCal at the moment. How did he end up on their donor lists

Uh-huh.

This next bit is a highly truncated first hand account of working as a volunteer donation sorter and some-time line cook for Paradise fire refugees at the Walmart refugee camp in Chico, Ca. I worked many hours (possibly 130-150 hours doing the volunteer crap-work no one wants to do. I lost many hours of sleep.

While working as a volunteer I had occasion and by circumstance ended up rubbing shoulders with two hardcore higher level antifa organizers from the SF bay area. Serendipity and all that. They are trying to organize a chapter in Chico. An affiliate. That affiliate happened to be North Valley Mutual Aid. Young college socialists. Most of the kids associated with NVMA are naïve bright eyed idealists. Not one of them would punch a person in the face or smash a plate glass window. The SF antifa guys want to co-opt the Chico affiliate. They brought cash and supplies. The SF antifa guys were very cagey about their actual agenda. Both are well educated. Both are uncompromising 1968 cultural revolution Maoist Red Guard types. That bit is not internet hyperbole. They are exactly that. Twitter and Facebook serve as their “Big Character Poster.” They were photographing Walmart security contractors (intimidation.) They invited some radicals from the rogue valley in Oregon to scout the area and meet the NorCal radicals. They invited me to a meeting. I declined and told them that I’m a anti-authoritarian right wing libertarian. They didn’t seem all that put off. I pressured them to make a brief mission statement regarding their intentions. They both declined. I actually liked one of the two guys on a personal level. But be aware. They want to sow chaos. One of them admitted that he runs with the street antifa packs in Berkeley/SF. He admitted that knowing I am a RW libertarian.

They are active and serious people. The affiliates they want to setup are really no different than a Hells Angels affiliate- just change the name slightly to “Antifa Cell.” They claim there is no vertical – hierarchical division of power, but there most certainly is.

At one point we’ll realize that leftists are at war with us. And they’re playing for keeps. Not a hot one yet, but Antifa et alia are turning up the heat.

At one point we’ll realize that Islam and Muslims are at war with us. And they’re playing for keeps. And this war is hot, hot, hot in certain parts of the world. The 1400 year jihad has never ceased; it’s making itself felt more and more in the West.

For both, we’re the targets.

“At one point we’ll realize that leftists are at war with us…”

It won’t happen until there’s insurrection. (You think the likes of Jeff Flake and Paul Ryan ‘get it?’)

What’s coming will be worse because of it. Sadly, it’s usually worked that way throughout history.

This is something I’ve thought about for years and I have to ask myself: am I nuts for thinking we are in some sort of civil war in this country? Because on its face it sounds ridiculous. But we have two sides in America that cannot reconcile with one another. Yes, as ridiculous as it sounds, we are in a civil war.

The left started it. Not us. Unfortunately, I do not think enough on our side will rise to fight because they never have and they aren’t right now. I am a conservative but I ever since I became one, after leaving the left, I have hated that the right is composed of too many pansies and will not fight for its principles. I don’t get it.

On the other hand, some thinkers on the right have accepted the notion that there is a civil war. I hope I’m wrong about our side capitulating, but that’s been the history. I cannot stand losers who just let themselves get steamrolled.

This is the subject of the most recent Imprimis:
    America’s Cold Civil War
    https://imprimis.hillsdale.edu/americas-cold-civil-war/

That’s not it. After all, most of our “real” warfighters are basically conservatives. The problem is that we are inclined to obey laws, even the ones we disagree with (and find ourselves prosecuted if we don’t) while the other side is under no such restrictions.

Pushing back against the left doesn’t mean “break the law.” Just the opposite. These clowns are so damn easy to beat – by boxing them within the very rules of behavior, decency, logic and laws they ignore.

Virtually no one does this, which is exactly why the left has run rampant all over America.

I used to shake my head at people who insisted that the Rs & Ds were two sides of the same coin, it’s just that while the Ds prefer a mad dash towards socialism, the Rs prefer a slow march. But the more I observe, the more it seems to me that perhaps this notion is not so far-fetched, and this realization helps me to assess the situation better and act accordingly. I’m more careful to identify myself as a conservative rather than a Republican, for example.

One positive thing about the election of Trump to the presidency: it has caused many on both sides of the aisle to show their true colors – many who talked a good talk but somehow managed to come up with excuse after excuse on why they couldn’t do anything about promoting a conservative agenda. The mask is being peeled back, and we’re getting a good look at who these clowns are. Trump may not be a card-carrying conservative, but so far he’s done more to advance a conservative agenda than any R since Reagan. I think history will bear this out.

This is yet another take on the Khrushchev warning, “We will bury you.” (And it constitutes more proof that the D’Rats are colluding with the Russians.)

“Considered.”

They’re already doing it.

This is akin to a Czech news agency in the middle of WW2 printing the story: “German Army employees considered invading the Sudentenland.”

Can we move the conversation forward?

America will not continue as 57 – er – 50 states.

Which part of the ‘new America’ will you migrate to?

Are they really pretending that they weren’t discriminating based on political viewpoint during the run-up to the 2016 election? Google has been an arm of the Democrat Party since 2009.

By 2009, I had been looking for a Google search alternative for years. I have a keen memory for phrases, which I could use to pinpoint effect using Lexis for legal opinion. This technique did not work nearly so well with Google searches for news articles I knew existed. It took a while, and a few different search engines. Right now, Duckduckgo is my favorite.

Nobody has to use Google.

Just don’t.

I switched to QuackQuack some time ago and use it for most internet searches. However, if I have something for which I want to see the results of other search engines, I’ll use it and, say, Startpage.com and Searx.

“let’s concentrate on teaching critical thinking”

We all know that complete BS because if that was actually happening the left wing Demoncrats would wither and die out.

Instead they teach what to think, not how to think!
