Warning Fireworks and Loud Music – Wear eye and ear protection

Warning Fireworks and Loud Music – Wear eye and ear protection

Not over-confident, but prepared, for Kavanaugh final confirmation vote.

http://youtu.be/X11CDIG5-5Y

I’m taking nothing for granted on the Kavanaugh confirmation vote Saturday, October 6, 2018.  Voting time is in flux, could be as early as 3 p.m. Eastern or as late as 5 p.m. We will have live coverage.

While it appears Kavanaugh will be confirmed now that Flake, Collins and Manchin are Yes votes, it’s ain’t over until it’s over. Will they still be Yes tomorrow afternoon?

If we have learned anything, it’s that the lunatics of #TheResistance are capable of the worst. So I’m not celebrating until the gavel hammers down tomorrow.

BUT, I am preparing.

How many of you remember our fireworks and music? I think the first time we used it was in June 2012, when Scott Walker won the Wisconsin Recall election. I wrote that it was Oh what a night:

What a night last night was.  It was as good as if not better than when Scott Brown won in January 2010.

Almost 20,000 people viewed the live feed during the 4 hours it was live.

I hope everyone enjoyed the fireworks display and music. We had fireworks firing off and exploding over the blog posts and music playing in the background, including John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Lee Greenwood singing God Bless The USA, and Kate Smith singing God Bless America.

Wait, what? How does it work?

We had custom-built an overlay of the website that, well, appears to shoot fireworks while music is playing. Imagine July 4 with the Boston Pops.

It requires that Flash be enabled, so it you have it disabled you’ll receive a prompt to enable it if you want to view the show (you don’t have to if you don’t want). We only run it for about 10 minutes, because last time it prevented some people from commenting.

A screenshot doesn’t do it justice, because you can’t see the movement of the fireworks, but here’s what it looked like when Walker won:

We used it again, and I think for the last time, in 2014 when Republicans took over the Senate:

Some readers in 2012 were not satisfied with fireworks, and wanted us to go nuclear:

Do we have nuclear capabilities? Like the Israelis, I’m not saying we do, and I’m not saying we don’t.

So tomorrow is the Kavanaugh confirmation.

I’m not over-confident, but I am prepared to launch the fireworks and music if he is confirmed. And also … the Victory Dance!

Come by the website around 3 p.m. so you are here when the voting starts and stay until the voting is over. If Kavanaugh is confirmed, we will launch.

Will we go nuclear?

We don’t comment on such matters, and never take options off the table. But if I were you, I’d wear eye and ear protection.

I am thanking God for what the left did during this process.

It has left a mark on everyone. You don’t get into a fight like this where it is pure evil on the other end and not get smarter and wiser for it.

The left has to own what they did here. This was on full display. Everyone saw. Everyone was disgusted. They were rebuked strongly.

I will be very surpised if the left doesn’t pay heavily for this in November. The blue wave could be diminished by the red tide coming in for what has happened here.

Prof. Jacobson, thanks for providing such a good site. I value your opinion highly, I like your helper elves, the commenters behave, for the most part, like adults. There aren’t a lot of places with this kind of quality.

If you have something even more powerful than nuclear, I give you permission to drop it.

WOMEN’s RAGE: Marist Poll: Generic Ballot among Suburban Women: Dems have lost 21 pts of their lead on Repubs during weeks of Kavanaugh confirmation.
      6:44 AM – Oct 5, 2018

If we get this we’ve won but we learned more from this I think than the democrats if only we are willing.

They have no bottom to the levels they will go. There is nothing beneath them. There is nothing they will not lie about. The lesson here is we have to make it hurt or they will never, ever stop.

We need penalties for all false accusations, we need to have hard hearts and never listen to any of their accusations in or out of context. They have shown they are willing to lie. They are no longer reliable sources for everything. Everything must be assumed to be false in all things from a democrat and their allies at all times until and unless it is proven otherwise by a true trusted ally.

This should be a wake up call, but too many think this is acceptable, that our fellow countrymen should be allowed to be dirty, underhanded, criminals, with no consequences. That time is done. If not, we will be having this conversation again every time. Until we can’t because they’re finally in power permanently.

I absolutely agree with you! Grassley’s staff needs to investigate further and refer to the DOJ/FBI to get to the bottom of ALL of this.

Just as I had a responsibility as a parent to discipline my children so that they would become good citizens and good human beings, the Judiciary Committee has a responsibility to discipline those who abused the system of “Advise and Consent,” whether they are fellow Senators, false accusers, or lawyers.

      herm2416 in reply to AmandaFitz. | October 5, 2018 at 11:13 pm

I agree with you, but they protect their own, and the periphery to their own, my guess is the only person who goes down is the eedjit who dxoxed the senators.

“They have no bottom to the levels they will go. There is nothing beneath them. There is nothing they will not lie about.”

I have seen the same thing happen in big corporations. The company will get a disreputable CEO, that CEO then pulls a number of their dubious associates into the top of the company. Then they start alienating employees, and employees who are able to move jump ship.

A distillation process is then in full swing, and pretty soon the company is loaded with disreputable people and a basket case.

It is really hard to turn that situation around, damn near impossible.

And that is the Democratic party today.

MajorWood in reply to JusticeDelivered. | October 6, 2018 at 1:38 pm

I wonder if someone is going to make a power play for Chucky’s job. It will look even worse for him if there are additional last minute defectors who pull from party ranks to save their butts on the local level.

Anyone here happen to notice Christine Blasey Ford looks and acts like Dana Carvey’s character Garth Algar in Wayne’s World? The odd, uncomfortable ticks, the hair, the fumbling? I’m not trying to be mean or cutting. Someone has had to of noticed this weeks ago. I bet Dana Carvey noticed it right away.

The likeness is somewhat uncanny.

I’ll be delighted when Judge Kavanaugh becomes Justice Kavanaugh – and fireworks are always fun – but we shouldn’t forget about the long-term effects of this hideous confirmation process, especially for his young daughters. Dr. Ford will be held up as the new Anita Hill of the #MeToo movement. She’ll be celebrated as a liberal icon for the rest of her life, unless it can be proven in a court of law that she fabricated everything. And I don’t see that happening. Much like Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh will always have an asterisk by his name because of the horrendous allegations thrown at him by the Democrats and media. His daughters will undoubtedly face taunts and bullying by sociopaths intent on causing them pain simply because he is their dad. By all means let’s celebrate his confirmation, but for the Kavanaugh family, the ugliness is not over, and that saddens me to no end.

Don’t count on it. After the comments over the past few days from GOP leadership, it sure looks like the communist resistance is in for a fight. I expect a few senators will be censured, Team FeinStein in particular can expect war. Those 6 Ford lawyers and Avanatti could end up be disbarred. The word treason might even pop up somewhere.

No, this was nothing like Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill. With them, it was over once Thomas was confirmed. This time, the confirmation will mark the beginning of a movement to restore civility rules to government. I really don’t think that the Dems have a clue about what just happened and what it means. They are about to learn.

Oh, I hope you’re right, Phil. But the only “civility” I usually see is on the Republican side. The Democrats don’t seem to know the meaning of the word and the pussy-hat crowd will be out for blood. Hysterical women are Democrats by nature and a force to be reckoned with. I’m a woman, and I truly hate girl-drama, but from personal unpleasant experience with crazy ladies I predict that civility ain’t gonna happen anytime soon.

Valerie in reply to Pasadena Phil. | October 6, 2018 at 3:01 am

“No, this was nothing like Clarence Thomas/Anita Hill. With them, it was over once Thomas was confirmed. ”

To the contrary, after the Anita Hill debacle, the Senate put new rules into place on how to handle claims in confidence. Diane Feinstein, and possibly others, broke the rules.

Anonamom in reply to RNJD. | October 5, 2018 at 9:00 pm

I agree, RNJD. This whole debacle has sickened me. A huge number of people will continue to believe that Justice Kavanaugh is “a serial rapist and drunk,” and the attacks will follow him for the rest of his career (much like Justice Thomas, as you pointed out.) And I shudder to think what the next nomination will bring to the process, because I really don’t see the Left suddenly returning to civility.

Following up on what I said earlier today, now that Collins has voted for cloture and made her statement, she will be the 50th vote which puts Kav over the top. Flake already made his statement as to why he voted yes of cloture which made it clear he is a yes to confirm tomorrow. That clears the way for several vulnerable Dems to also vote for confirmation. Manchin isn’t the only one so we could see 56 or even more yes votes.

I was hoping that Collins was would do something to force Manchin or one of the other Dems to be the 50th yes vote but I guess it doesn’t matter. With McConnell, current committee chairman Grassley, next committee chairman Graham, and now Collins having excoriated what happened and even issued subpoenas to several important players, we can expect a fight from our side as the communist resistance fizzles away against public disgust.

All because Trump and Kavanaugh hung in there till the end. The Dems were clearly counting on the usual GOP folding act.

Winning!

Michael Avenatti convinced Susan Collins to give Brett Kavanaugh the benefit of the doubt.

I hear Michael Avenatti wants to run for President in 2020 as a Democrat.

    That should do it.

RodFC in reply to Neo. | October 5, 2018 at 9:10 pm

Way back when, when I heard Avenatti’s accuser I said he just put Judge K over the top.

      Correction: I mean justice K .

guyjones in reply to Neo. | October 5, 2018 at 10:59 pm

Avenatti’s antics were part of Collins’ decision-making, for sure, but, her reasoning went deeper. With regard to the allegations, this was also about due process, evidentiary standards, and, the presumption of innocence. Equally important to Collins, was the Judge’s judicial mindset. She went over Judge K.’s opinions, his record, his jurisprudential philosophy, his innumerable accolades from peers, clerks, attorneys, etc. There was simply no rational basis on which to reject Judge K. He is highly-qualified and has led an admirable and laudable life, personally and professionally.

This vote is absurd — Kavanaugh should ideally receive 70 to 80 votes, at a minimum, were the Dumb-o-crats not so committed to their particular brand of fanatical mob totalitarianism.

With regard to the allegations, this was also about due process, evidentiary standards, and, the presumption of innocence.

All of which were obvious weeks ago. And I’m sure Collins isn’t the only Senator who values (or pretends to value, when a smokescreen is needed) these things. Yet she enabled the D’rats to drag us all through their amusement-park House of Horror ride, a grubby disaster which cheapened and debased the Court and the Senate as well as themselves.

I don’t care what mellifluous and self-serving noises she makes when she’s cornered, she’s a shit.

I thought I read on Twitter that John Tester and Joe Donnelly are reconsidering their no votes

I don’t know about that, but Murkowski just spent 20 minutes on the Senate floor trying unconvincingly the explain why she voted no today. At the end, she tried to walk it back by saying that her vote tomorrow would be recorded as present, which, since Daines is not going to be there, I think means that the Republicans only need 49 votes. Somebody check me on that.

fishstick in reply to Wing. | October 5, 2018 at 8:45 pm

the Republicans just need 50 votes since the VP is Republican

the Republicans have a 51-49 slim majority atm

that means among the 4 RINOs in the Senate (Flake, Collins, Murkowski, and Corker) – we need 3 of the 4 to vote for Kavanaugh

Collins and Corker look to be sure YES votes – would say 98% chance there

that means the Republicans only need either Flake or Murkowski to vote YES to get to the 50 number

however a scenario also exists where if Joe Manchin votes YES, then the Republicans get to 50 without Flake or Murkowski

I highly suspect Murkowski will just vote “present”

that would be the safest course for her because she can political posture around it should Kavanaugh get confirmed anyways, and her re-election is 4 years from now so that is more than enough time for the angst of this shitstorm to be forgotten

Flake (I would guess) is 60-40 to vote YES at this point in time

Joe Manchin is going to be 100% YES if Republicans get to 50 but more like 20% if his particular vote would be needed to get Kavanaugh over the minority hump

Murkowski and Gaines (at his daughter’s wedding) have a joint pact to vote “present”

This also is supposed to take the pressure off any one Senator for being the deciding vote.

        Expect “50-48”

I don’t know where you heard that but Daines has publicly stated that he WILL vote for Kavanaugh and even called him to assure him that the rumor isn’t true. Count Daines as a lock for yes.

Tester is an ass, and I hope Montana’s voters (I used to be one) send him packing.

One other quick note.
Since PDJT has been in office almost two years and he’s constantly fighting the dems regardless of the dem media coalition, I’ve noticed more repubs becoming braver. Graham being the most overt of them all.
I’m hoping PDJT’s spirit is infecting the repubs and the dems and the media keep finding out we no longer have beaten dogs willingly lying down at some unkind words.

As a Jinx who is 0-12 predicting SCOTUS decisions, I will not tempt fate here. Wifey insists I keep my mouth shut on pain of 3 months sentencing to The Couch.

But I am allowed to express my agreement with others re the war to come. There’s the old adage by Emerson “when you strike at the king, you must kill him”. The perpetrators of this witch hunt must not go unpunished.

For the Left, this was never about stopping Kavanaugh, this was about shaping the battlefield for Ginsburg’s seat.

If you think this is over tomorrow, that they have been defeated, you haven’t been paying attention. We need to attack and destroy the positions they launched from – Feinstein, Fusion GPS, the Altar of Abortion, and even Title IX.

I leave you with this reminder – when someone can attack our people with lethal force and get away with it, expect more of our people to be attacked with lethal force:

“Police said, previously, that Clanton attacked at least three people with a metal U-lock during the April 15 rally in and around Civic Center Park. Court papers later revealed that Clanton struck at least seven people in the head, according to authorities. One person received a head laceration that required five staples to fix. Another was uninjured but had a piece of a helmet broken off. A third was struck across the neck and back”

4 felony counts, and…

“Clanton entered a “no contest” plea Wednesday to one misdemeanor battery charge. The felony charges against him were dismissed, and an allegation that he had caused serious bodily injury was stricken. A misdemeanor charge that Clanton wore a mask during the commission of the crime also was dropped.”

3 years probation. Not a single day in jail.

https://www.berkeleyside.com/2018/08/08/eric-clanton-takes-3-year-probation-deal-in-berkeley-rally-bike-lock-assault-case

There’s news that this was really an all-hands-on-deck operation.

W is reported to have been in touch with Collins, and may have been the deciding factor. If true, good for him!

        http://ace.mu.nu/archives/377464.php

“…Some have speculated that many NeverTrumpers became NeverKavanaugh agitators precisely because their stupid “‘But Gorsuch…’ macro,” as Sean calls it, sounds a lot weaker when it’s “But Gorsuch… But Kavanaugh…”

And it gets very, very weak when we add “But Barrett…” when she replaces RBG.

All the NeverTrumpers must account for the fact that they voted to put at least two, and possibly three (or more) partisan archprog Democrats on the Supreme Court. That was the decision they made.

At some point, they will have to explain to their readers or voters why they did that, and why they still believe that their readers or voters should continue trusting their judgment on issues of importance”

I’m one of a dozen conservatives in town, but, I live on high ground — geographically, as well as morally. 🙂

When crone Hillary lost in 2016, the hardest part about my 1.5-mile walk to work was trying to act appropriately mournful and downcast, so that I would blend in with the lemmings and not out myself as a heretic who was inwardly grinning like a fool at the Donald’s historic upset.

Who listens to these paid useful idiots -besides POS like murkowsky?

Cautiously optimistic… but I’m hoping to be able to read a summary of the Democrat efforts to suppress the nomination tomorrow, in the form of Casey At The Bat.

“Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,
But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out.”

I don’t want to see fireworks onscreen, I want to see a pyramid of skulls in Washington.

We are at least getting the benefits of the “lamentations of de wimmin” thing, but the virtues of that are transient.

Thanks for the heads up Professor. Now if I can just figure out where I put my party helmet, the one that provides eye and ear protection together with a built-in beer delivery system.

So, I woke up this morning and am happy to see that, so far, there have been no real fireworks or nuclear options on Washington DC.

We know they will try something, but regardless, this will happen. If not today, soon and for the rest of our lives. Woo!

One argument that we keep hearing is that the confirmation is being rushed, but what is the average time it takes to be confirmed to SCOTUS?

DieJustAsHappy in reply to RodFC. | October 6, 2018 at 9:22 am

I’ve read of a 55 day average, from nomination to confirmation. One note, though, is that some justices made a condition of their retirement the confirmation of a successor. Also, there is the Garland situation. His was open for 200+ days.

As pertains to Judge Kavanaugh, he was nominated by President Trump July 9. So, by my count, this is 89 days, give or take a day or so. Given his stellar background and all the broohaha made over an alleged incident that, as I understand, would have amounted to a 4th degree sexual assault, it doesn’t appear rushed to me, not al all. Indeed, he ought to have been there for the opening of the current session of the Supreme Court.

I hope no one is counting on Flake’s vote.

“We don’t comment on such matters, and never take options off the table. But if I were you, I’d wear eye and ear protection.”

Industry shorthand is ‘PPE’ – personal protective equipment. Obviously, it’s now standard issue for politics.

Class III vests and Kevlar helmets for starters….and I am not kidding.

Understanding Milgram’s findings …. Leftist mobs will escalate to violence every time. Until the mob gets smashed nothing will stop. The Leftist have no room for peaceful protests.

Our advice is nomex and kevlar.

All I can do is smile! Guess I’m not tired of being on the wining team yet… LOL

I think this is just the beginning, wait until it’s time for Ginsburg to shuffle off her mortal coil. I think our president has another SCOTUS appointee, with the proper genitalia, waiting in the wings!

Not until after the midterms, when we expand our Senate numbers while getting rid of some flakes.
Collins and Murkowski would both be automatic no votes for Barrett because of the anti-abortion thing. Once we get about 54 or 55 GOP Senators, that becomes much less of a problem.
