Not over-confident, but prepared, for Kavanaugh final confirmation vote.
I’m taking nothing for granted on the Kavanaugh confirmation vote Saturday, October 6, 2018. Voting time is in flux, could be as early as 3 p.m. Eastern or as late as 5 p.m. We will have live coverage.
While it appears Kavanaugh will be confirmed now that Flake, Collins and Manchin are Yes votes, it’s ain’t over until it’s over. Will they still be Yes tomorrow afternoon?
If we have learned anything, it’s that the lunatics of #TheResistance are capable of the worst. So I’m not celebrating until the gavel hammers down tomorrow.
BUT, I am preparing.
How many of you remember our fireworks and music? I think the first time we used it was in June 2012, when Scott Walker won the Wisconsin Recall election. I wrote that it was Oh what a night:
What a night last night was. It was as good as if not better than when Scott Brown won in January 2010.
Almost 20,000 people viewed the live feed during the 4 hours it was live.
I hope everyone enjoyed the fireworks display and music. We had fireworks firing off and exploding over the blog posts and music playing in the background, including John Philip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, Lee Greenwood singing God Bless The USA, and Kate Smith singing God Bless America.

We had custom-built an overlay of the website that, well, appears to shoot fireworks while music is playing. Imagine July 4 with the Boston Pops.
It requires that Flash be enabled, so it you have it disabled you’ll receive a prompt to enable it if you want to view the show (you don’t have to if you don’t want). We only run it for about 10 minutes, because last time it prevented some people from commenting.
A screenshot doesn’t do it justice, because you can’t see the movement of the fireworks, but here’s what it looked like when Walker won:

I am thanking God for what the left did during this process.
It has left a mark on everyone. You don’t get into a fight like this where it is pure evil on the other end and not get smarter and wiser for it.
The left has to own what they did here. This was on full display. Everyone saw. Everyone was disgusted. They were rebuked strongly.

If we get this we’ve won but we learned more from this I think than the democrats if only we are willing.
They have no bottom to the levels they will go. There is nothing beneath them. There is nothing they will not lie about. The lesson here is we have to make it hurt or they will never, ever stop.
We need penalties for all false accusations, we need to have hard hearts and never listen to any of their accusations in or out of context. They have shown they are willing to lie. They are no longer reliable sources for everything. Everything must be assumed to be false in all things from a democrat and their allies at all times until and unless it is proven otherwise by a true trusted ally.
This should be a wake up call, but too many think this is acceptable, that our fellow countrymen should be allowed to be dirty, underhanded, criminals, with no consequences. That time is done. If not, we will be having this conversation again every time. Until we can’t because they’re finally in power permanently.

Just as I had a responsibility as a parent to discipline my children so that they would become good citizens and good human beings, the Judiciary Committee has a responsibility to discipline those who abused the system of “Advise and Consent,” whether they are fellow Senators, false accusers, or lawyers.

I have seen the same thing happen in big corporations. The company will get a disreputable CEO, that CEO then pulls a number of their dubious associates into the top of the company. Then they start alienating employees, and employees who are able to move jump ship.
A distillation process is then in full swing, and pretty soon the company is loaded with disreputable people and a basket case.
It is really hard to turn that situation around, damn near impossible.
And that is the Democratic party today.

I’ll be delighted when Judge Kavanaugh becomes Justice Kavanaugh – and fireworks are always fun – but we shouldn’t forget about the long-term effects of this hideous confirmation process, especially for his young daughters. Dr. Ford will be held up as the new Anita Hill of the #MeToo movement. She’ll be celebrated as a liberal icon for the rest of her life, unless it can be proven in a court of law that she fabricated everything. And I don’t see that happening. Much like Clarence Thomas, Brett Kavanaugh will always have an asterisk by his name because of the horrendous allegations thrown at him by the Democrats and media. His daughters will undoubtedly face taunts and bullying by sociopaths intent on causing them pain simply because he is their dad. By all means let’s celebrate his confirmation, but for the Kavanaugh family, the ugliness is not over, and that saddens me to no end.

To the contrary, after the Anita Hill debacle, the Senate put new rules into place on how to handle claims in confidence. Diane Feinstein, and possibly others, broke the rules.
I agree, RNJD. This whole debacle has sickened me. A huge number of people will continue to believe that Justice Kavanaugh is “a serial rapist and drunk,” and the attacks will follow him for the rest of his career (much like Justice Thomas, as you pointed out.) And I shudder to think what the next nomination will bring to the process, because I really don’t see the Left suddenly returning to civility.
Following up on what I said earlier today, now that Collins has voted for cloture and made her statement, she will be the 50th vote which puts Kav over the top. Flake already made his statement as to why he voted yes of cloture which made it clear he is a yes to confirm tomorrow. That clears the way for several vulnerable Dems to also vote for confirmation. Manchin isn’t the only one so we could see 56 or even more yes votes.
I was hoping that Collins was would do something to force Manchin or one of the other Dems to be the 50th yes vote but I guess it doesn’t matter. With McConnell, current committee chairman Grassley, next committee chairman Graham, and now Collins having excoriated what happened and even issued subpoenas to several important players, we can expect a fight from our side as the communist resistance fizzles away against public disgust.
All because Trump and Kavanaugh hung in there till the end. The Dems were clearly counting on the usual GOP folding act.

Avenatti’s antics were part of Collins’ decision-making, for sure, but, her reasoning went deeper. With regard to the allegations, this was also about due process, evidentiary standards, and, the presumption of innocence. Equally important to Collins, was the Judge’s judicial mindset. She went over Judge K.’s opinions, his record, his jurisprudential philosophy, his innumerable accolades from peers, clerks, attorneys, etc. There was simply no rational basis on which to reject Judge K. He is highly-qualified and has led an admirable and laudable life, personally and professionally.
This vote is absurd — Kavanaugh should ideally receive 70 to 80 votes, at a minimum, were the Dumb-o-crats not so committed to their particular brand of fanatical mob totalitarianism.

All of which were obvious weeks ago. And I’m sure Collins isn’t the only Senator who values (or pretends to value, when a smokescreen is needed) these things. I don’t know about that, but Murkowski just spent 20 minutes on the Senate floor trying unconvincingly the explain why she voted no today. At the end, she tried to walk it back by saying that her vote tomorrow would be recorded as present, which, since Daines is not going to be there, I think means that the Republicans only need 49 votes. Somebody check me on that.

One argument that we keep hearing is that the confirmation is being rushed, but what is the average time it takes to be confirmed to SCOTUS?
I’ve read of a 55 day average, from nomination to confirmation. One note, though, is that some justices made a condition of their retirement the confirmation of a successor. Also, there is the Garland situation. His was open for 200+ days.
As pertains to Judge Kavanaugh, he was nominated by President Trump July 9. So, by my count, this is 89 days, give or take a day or so. Given his stellar background and all the broohaha made over an alleged incident that, as I understand, would have amounted to a 4th degree sexual assault, it doesn’t appear rushed to me, not al all. Indeed, he ought to have been there for the opening of the current session of the Supreme Court.
I hope no one is counting on Flake’s vote.
