Migrant Caravan Grows to 5,000 People, Continues Towards Border Despite Trump Threats

“Our strength is greater than Trump’s threats.”

The migrant caravan from Central America continues their march to the US border despite threats from President Donald Trump with publications estimating between 5,000 and 7,000 people.

As they made their way over the Suchiate River, which connects Guatemala and Mexico, the head of the local government’s emergency services Gerardo Hernandez said, “You can’t even walk, there’s just so many people.”

From the BBC:

On Sunday, the migrant caravan reached the town of Tapachula, approximately 37km (23 miles) from Mexico’s southern border with Guatemala.

The Mexican authorities had earlier tried to stop them at a border bridge.

But some managed to cross into Mexico illegally by boat over the Suchiate river.

“We have sunburn. We have blisters. But we got here. Our strength is greater than Trump’s threats,” migrant Britany Hernández told AFP news agency.

Voice of America reported that “many have returned to Honduras after facing hardship along the way, or running into obstacles on the Mexican border.”

Migrants cited reasons like violence and poverty for leaving Honduras. Mexico has tried to deal with the large amount of people, but some grew impatient and have swam or used homemade rafts to get into Mexico to escape border authorities. The migrants over powered the riot police, who scurried back to the bus that brought them to the border.

Mexico has encouraged the migrants to apply for asylum and over 1,000 of the people have done this, but it takes 45 days to complete.

From USA Today:

The Mexican government has warned caravan participants “of grave risks” they could face from human trafficking networks if they illegally enter Mexico. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Sunday the United States was closely monitoring the caravan’s advance.

“We must remain mindful of the transnational criminal organizations and other criminals that prey on the vulnerabilities of those undertaking the irregular migration journey,” she said in a statement.

Nielsen said the United States was working with “our partners in the region” to investigate and prosecute anyone making a profit from the migration.

Since Mexico hasn’t been able to do much to stop the caravan, Trump described the caravan as a national emergency this morning. He’s also sticking to his guns and cutting off aid to Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

He also blamed the Democrats for the caravan:

He has a point. The Democrats had the majority from 2008-2010 and yet did nothing to change our immigration laws.

It’s the Unofficial Committee to Re-Elect President Trump and Some Republicans.

Who is funding this carava? How do they eat, sleep, relieve themselves? Must be a mess.

Trump needs to stop grandstanding on this by deferring the need for action by Congress. The POTUS’ first constitutional responsibility is to provide for the safety and security of the nation. Deploy the military to the border and put them in charge!

If Mexico doesn’t recognize their own border, give them marching orders and let’s see how long it takes for Mexico to draw the line for a border that they are willing to defend. Since no one down their seems to believe in national borders, maybe we need to declare the new US border to be at the Panama Canal?

We are already engaged in a “silent” war financed by the drug cartels and their 5th column collaborators in the US, let’s get it out in the open and have at it. Are our money laundering bankers and sanctuary cities/states’ governors and mayors going to declare open war against the US?

I say it’s time to drop the masks and gloves. We know what we are dealing with here. Our corrupt institutions are surrendering the country to our enemies. This caravan isn’t the invasion because that has already happened. This caravan is just confirmation of the reality because we seem utterly powerless and lacking the will to stop it.

Suck it up Trump! Take charge of this NOW! Deploy the military to shut down the border and force the issue with Mexico. If they don’t recognize the border, we don’t either. Now march!

How will the military stop them? Remember not too long ago the military was sent to the border and a Marine shot an “invader”.
The reaction was world wide denunciation of the US and the USMC.
Our military are not “peacemakers” they are “war fighters”. I agree they must be stopped. If they enter then we will soon have a flood.
The great TRUTH: If bad behavior is rewarded the there will be more bad behavior. I post only to seek a solution.

All he has to do is close the border crossings when they get close, just like Reagan famously did during an incident. The marchers have no arms, no ability to force the border, so they will just sit. Unlike athletic young men in their 20’s, the women and children that make up the bulk of this group can’t cross the Rio Grande on their own. This whole thing is a big show for the cameras that the people financing it think will hurt Trump, but it’s going to backfire Bigly just like Fauxcahontas’ big DNA reveal did.

4th armored div in reply to Tom Servo. | October 22, 2018 at 10:17 am

the bulk of them are YOUNG MEN not wymen and chilluns.

how can a group that are mainly women and children march the thousands of miles without any amenities such as a place to relieve themselves and “baby food” – no they are mainly military age men.

Funny, that’s what the Mexicans thought. How’d that work out?

Unless the US is willing to employ deadly force, Leftists be damned, those people will walk right through.

oldgoat36 in reply to Tom Servo. | October 22, 2018 at 12:29 pm

Have the military mine the areas they are looking to cross, put up signs stating as such and proceeding across the area is at their own risk.

Military on the border is the only means to have the personnel to cover this mob. Arrest every one of them, and quickly ship them right back to where they came from. Treat it as it is, an invasion. This isn’t to escape from a threatening government, it is an organized effort and has to have some big money behind it. Steyer, Soros, Bezos, Bloomberg, are billionaires in high amounts who have put up large dollars against Trump, any of them could fund something like this far to easily, and not make a dent in their net worth.

Warn them that shots will be fired, and any crossing the border without permission will be shot. Frankly, I don’t care if the world gets their panties in a twist. If they don’t like that the US is protecting the borders, take this mob of mostly men to your own country. The US is supposed to be a sovereign Nation. It’s time to throw it down.

We are not talking about a civil disturbance at our border. We are talking about an INVASION! Why do you care what our foreign frenemies say? The biggest fear they harbor is the collapse of the US. If we show strength and resolve to act, our “friends” will be there.

Trump has the constitutional power to deploy our military against all enemies foreign and domestic. We weren’t worried about Congress and border laws when twice the British invaded us. This is even worse. Since our domestic enemies want to cancel the constitution, maybe we can play a little loose ourselves? Draft all of the National Reserves into the national military and strip the governors of their only alternative. The nation needs the NR and is calling them to work.

Instead of playing by their rules, we play by ours for a change. The patient sleeping giant has been re-awakened. Let’s go on offense. Okay Mexico and Central America? Explain to us again how your borderless land is yours and not ours? Time’s up! We are taking it away from you!

      Let’s see how that works.

It’s the enemies domestic you’re overlooking.

We all know where the propaganda wing of the DNC will stand, and how it will be portrayed. What else is new?

I notice the timing of this is so it will be right around the elections so you know this is political from an organization, not something that just happened.

No matter how it gets handled the leftists will go nuts. What else is new there as well?

You’re still confusing Texas and California. Abbott already has the Texas Guard on the border, and has had for a couple of years – but unless they’re willing to shoot the women and children these gangbangers are hiding behind, they’re aren’t going to be stopped by troops or fences.

Then why do these caravans always target TX and AZ? Maybe because CA already has a WALL? And why is it that every major city in TX is a sanctuary city?

We’ve had this discussion before. TX is being led down the same path that CA took and by the same TX political machine. It’s happening in just about every state. CA is not the problem. Wake up already. Focus. Your “don’t mess with Texas” utopia doesn’t exist anymore. Somebody messed with it while you were obsessively distracted with CA.

The military has a wide array of non-lethal weapons. Perhaps the most effective here will be the ADS or Active Denial System. It’s informally known as the Pain Ray. It’s effective out to just over half a mile. It doesn’t exactly microwave anyone, but it is a directed energy weapon that uses high frequency (hence the short range) electro-magnetic radiation to heat the skin surface until it’s so uncomfortable that the person is compelled to leave the area. It’s good for both crowd control and area denial (difference being the crowd will not enter an area covered by the beam).

We’ve had it in the inventory for years (a variant is mounted on USN ships). In the maritime environment it’s good for “hailing” a suspicious and unresponsive craft (it definitely gets their attention) and forcing them to leave the area. Since it’s non-lethal merchant ship operators have also equipped their vessels to repel pirates. Police forces also use it for crowd control. Israel is using it along their border fence with Gaza.

      They’re reportedly very effective.

We can also employ more traditional riot control techniques, such as masses of riot-gear equiped troops who WiLL NOT simply pose for photo ops and then flee like the Mexicans.

Essentially the military can be used as blocking force so the illegals will have to attempt to enter the US. Where the Border Patrol, ICE, and any other federal LE assisting them can either arrest them or turn them back, whatever they think is appropriate.

And if the illegals assault the soldiers, the military can arrest them and hand them over to federal civilian law enforcement. That’s well established under federal law.

Hurricane Willa to cut across the path of the caravan …

MEXICO CITY — Newly formed Hurricane Willa rapidly intensified off Mexico’s Pacific coast Sunday and early Monday and became a major Category 5 storm, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. As of 11 a.m. ET., Willa had maximum sustained winds of 160 mph — just 3 mph over the threshold for a Category 5.

Arminius in reply to Neo. | October 24, 2018 at 2:35 am

I read about this yesterday on Anthony Watts’ climate change blog, Watts Up With That.

He and Joe Bastardi of the Weather Channel sort of got into it as Bastardi pointed out that Willa was going to make landfall too far north to hit the Illegal Alien mob. Watts pointed out that Mexico has a much more fragile infrastructure and much less ability to do disaster relief and repair.

The “caravan” can’t cross washed out roads, flooded roads, and roads that are covered by mudslides (per the predictions) eve if Soros is busing them to the border. And what about the logistics needed to support this army? How are the people organizing and sustaining this army in the field going to do that with no local food supplies, no potable water, and no electricity?

Unless they can provide that organically, like an army on the march, which would mean this is a well-planned and extremely well-funded criminal conspiracy to violate the laws of the United States.

“We want to mooch off the US. And there’s nothing anyone can do about it.”
The entitlement mentality from non citizens demanding to be let into another country because they cannot fix theirs.

Tapachula is almost exactly a thousand miles from Brownsville by road. This “march” is not going to walk all that way. So, who is arranging transport?

A transnational “Migrant Caravan” of 5,000 entitled, lawless migrants from a country ruled by drug warlords don’t just appear spontaneously.

We’re not talking about wide-eyed Irish and Italian immigrants sailing into Ellis Island here. It’s a military incursion by proxy.

Mayors and supporters of so-called sanctuary cities are effectively serving as foreign agent and must be dealt with accordingly.

Trump and the federal government has the Constitutional authority and duty to stop them.

“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion;…”

“The migrants over powered the riot police, who scurried back to the bus that brought them to the border.”

How convenient. Let’s do some math: 5,000 migrants are 1,000 miles away from the TexMex border. They have 15 days before the USA midterm elections to reach that border and create a huge manufactured humanitarian crisis as possible.

How many democrats will collude with their main stream propagandists to ensure the loudest, most shrill, and constant blame game against Trump and the Republicans for this ‘crisis on the border’ – which will magically disappear the day after the election?

I just got back from a 2 week visit to a wonderful little Mexican town on Lake Chapala, Jalisco, just south of Guadalajara. I was told by a knowledgeable local that every one of the growing number of beggars I saw were from Central America or Guyana. Their begging consisted of saying they were trying to get enough money to get to the US. But the local told me those same people have been there for months—usually at the same place on the sidewalk every day. The hardworking Mexican populace is getting tired of having to step over or around them, as most people walk everywhere. Quite a bit of friction developing. There are no Mexican beggars. Everybody works at some kind of job.

I understand that Mexico City is experiencing a huge increase in migrant beggars(and pickpockets).

If they get to the US, their begging days are over. The money will be deposited right into their welfare accounts. Oh Happy Days

Place sanctions on Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala, close the southern border to all traffic, including commercial and keep it closed until the invasion has been dispersed.

userpen in reply to stablesort. | October 22, 2018 at 11:03 am

Send authorized personnel to screen women and children for potential asylum on the Mexican side of the border. After showing care and concern announce that none were found to qualify. Close all border checkpoints until caravan has been successfully turned around. Cut off aid to Honduras and Guatemala.

Bucky Barkingham in reply to stablesort. | October 22, 2018 at 11:57 am

I agree that this is the most sensible and practical solution. Of course the Lefties will use law suits and Lefty judge TRO’s to try to thwart Trump, so it’s time for Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions to come out of his safe place and start fighting for the country.

So, what are the chances we can see expedited removal for these people? i.e. step across the border in the morning, step off the plane in Guatemala that evening. We can afford the plane tickets, because they’re coming right out of the foreign aid we send to Mexico and Guatemala anyway.

stablesort in reply to georgfelis. | October 22, 2018 at 11:31 am

“So, what are the chances we can see expedited removal for these people”

I can see that, but there will probably be too much trouble on board the airplane. Some of these people are neither timid nor mild mannered.

Cattle cars would work, but Mexico would probably block their transit. I was wondering if we could tow gliders behind transport planes like the paratroopers were carried into battle in WWII?

I think the current globalist crowd has gotten soft in the head. Yes, endless photos of crying babies. But thousands cross the border EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Ultimately this benefits Trump. The publicity will help turn out red votes, and suppress and flip blue votes among working class, black and Hispanic and others who don’t like open borders.

If Trump obtains a working majority in both houses, then this just helps him demand funding for the wall.

Unless they have a fraud machine in place that is beyond all of our wildest expectations, this is how you get MORE Trump.

Bring out the military? Close your border?

Lest yee forget, the Democrats will go to one of their chosen United States District Court Judges who will promptly issue a restraining order against Trump.

This order will be treated by the Press and the Democrats with a religious fervor that will make the Ten Commandments seem like shredder paper.

Ulysses in reply to dystopia. | October 22, 2018 at 11:11 am

Said judge will be according glowing tributes in the New York Times and Washington post for courage. Telemundo news-babes will be in near religious ecstasy. Jorge will be proud of his Country. Chuck Todd will call the judge brilliant.

    All so predictable.

I don’t know if this is legit or not. A friend sent me this and, even if it is not legit, it contains a lot of truth.

On Becoming Illegal.
FORMS ARE GOING FAST – SIGN UP TODAY!  (Actual letter from an Oregon resident sent to his Senator)

The Honorable Wyden 731 Hart Senate Office Building

Phone (202) 224 3254
Washington DC, 20510

Dear Senator Wyden,
As a native Oregonian and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you.
My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for only three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out. Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I’m excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.
Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.
Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as “in-state” tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.
Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver’s license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to

Milhouse in reply to Anchovy. | October 22, 2018 at 11:51 am

No, it is not legit. First, no such bill passed recently; I think the last one was in 2013. Second, that bill, and every other bill that has ever passed or been proposed in either house, required applicants to pay all taxes owed, plus penalties.

It should be completely obvious that any requirement, in any such bill, to have paid income taxes for three of the past five years does not exempt applicants from any taxes owed for the other two years. Nobody could be stupid enough to actually read it that way. Supposing such a bill were to pass, the meaning would be obvious: the applicant must have earned enough income to pay taxes on, for at least three of five years. Obviously if s/he earned taxable income in all five years s/he is and remains liable for all the taxes for all five years.

Hurricane Willa, approaching from the west, could make forging those rivers a wee bit trickier in the near future. It should slow them down until after the elections anyway. Then we can fight this like the invasion it truly is.

Trump’s credibility is on the line. He stated they will not enter the US and if they do he’ll be proven to be another paper tiger!

So, about the Trumpian strategy here.

Let’s say that 7000 to 10,000 foreign invaders reach the US-Mexico border. What are his options?

1) Close the border and use military force to turn back anyone who attempts to cross, possibly with deadly force.

2) Follow previous protocol and stop as many as possible, using civil authorities, while following exiting law with regard to hearing “asylum” claims.

3) Do nothing and allow these people to stream across the border.

So, which would be most advantageous to Trump and the Republicans, just prior to the midterm elections?

The third option, doing nothing can not be used, as it would really upset his supporters. The first option, while playing very well to Trump’s supporters, would almost surely end up involving violence against the invaders which could result in negative results for Republicans in the midterms. The second course is the most likely, as it allows the POTUS to maintain the status quo while beating up on the Congress, especially the Democrats there [even though funding for a wall has been blocked by Republicans, not Democrats].

So, why threaten to actively use the military to secure the Southern border? To elicit a response from liberal Democrats. It is like enticing an opposing football player to jump offside by changing the tempo of the snap count. In this case, if it looks like the POTUS WILL deploy troops to stop any and all border crossings, then there is a good chance that the libs will find a sympathetic judge to order Trump to stand down the military. And, Trump, being a law and order guy, will do so. After all, 10,000 illegal aliens is a drop in the bucket when compared to the 20+ MILLION already here. It is smaller than Elizabeth Warren’s percentage of Native American DNA. This will give the POTUS a platform to condemn the immigration position of liberal politicians just before the midterms. And, the liberal media will actually assist him, due to the huge amount of coverage they are providing on this caravan of potential invaders.

Just my take. And, trump could well surprise everyone here. Stay tuned.

    oldgoat36 in reply to Mac45. | October 22, 2018 at 12:48 pm

Allowing a lot of these people in, adding yet more costs to the taxpayers, only encourages more to come. It happened with amnesty, and I fear we are looking at a lot more illegals here than is reported.

They aren’t afraid, they get driver’s licenses, money to support them from our government, and there are reports of large numbers of these illegals voting in our elections.

Trump had drawn his line in the sand. If they cross at will, it shows Trump in a very bad light and will result in higher numbers of this invasion continuing and getting worse. At what point does it stop? At what point are we no longer the US but rather some puppet nation as so any European nations are?

      Mac45 in reply to oldgoat36. | October 22, 2018 at 1:33 pm

The problem is with the Congress, not with Trump. Trump can only follow the laws, as written. So far, trump has done everything that he waid he would, which he can do under existing law. The problem is the ridiculous and unrealistic laws and court decisions governing immigration procedures. Realistically, Trump has to allow many of these people into the country, if they claim asylum. And, given the legal limitations of detaining asylum seekers, most of these people will be released into the US, without their claims being processed.

The current problem with unfettered immigration has to be dealt with and such immigration stopped. But, long term, that has to be done by the Congress and neither party there wants to address it. The failure of the Congressional Republicans to address immigration problems is one of the reasons why the Dems were set to regain control of the House and possibly the Senate. Trump voters, who also voted for the 2016 Republicans, expected the Congressional Republicans to see the handwriting on the wall and get on board the Trump train. When they didn’t, a significant number of people who would vote for Trump Republicans were all set to stay home. If the Dems had not blown their own political heads off with the Kavanaugh affair, they would have waltzed into the Congress in 2019.

        txvet2 in reply to Mac45. | October 22, 2018 at 3:04 pm

I keep seeing people (especially on the left) make the same argument that we can’t deny them because they’re “seeking asylum”, but the counter argument is that they can only seek asylum in the first country they enter, which in this case would seem to nullify the asylum excuse.

          Milhouse in reply to txvet2. | October 22, 2018 at 4:15 pm

The government can argue that at their hearing, but first they have to have a hearing, and in the meantime they can’t be deported.

    elle in reply to Mac45. | October 22, 2018 at 3:57 pm

I think the best course of action for Trump is to cut the aid (as he is doing) to show he’s engaged while taking the opportunity to educate the public on the horror and misery that is created by human trafficking of cheap labor and what globalism really means.

This caravan and what is happening in Europe is a clear visual of what the Globalist masters mean by “open borders”.

Those who are not the Global Elite are mere peasants, no better than any other peasant in the world. You have no special protections as a citizen. Get used to the idea that your jobs can to be bought and sold on the world market for pennies on the dollar.

“”Democrats had the majority from 2008-2010″”

No, they had the majority from 2007-2010, and a filibuster-proof majority in 2009 until Brown was elected. They could have passed anything they wanted to pass – like Obamacare. As usual, the intent is to exploit a problem, not solve it.

It’s far from clear that the only place Trump can defend against this invasion is at the U.S. border. According to Wikipedia, “American troops landed in Honduras in 1903, 1907, 1911, 1912, 1919, 1924 and 1925.” No reason they couldn’t do it again now. This isn’t a Western movie, you don’t have to let the bad guys draw first…

Incidentally, OldGoat36’s idea about mining the border is a good one. A lot cheaper than a wall and serves the same purpose, to channel opposing forces into manageable corridors…

Milhouse in reply to Jwest. | October 22, 2018 at 4:16 pm

There’s plenty of reason they can’t do it again. It would be an act of war, and utterly illegal, just as it was all those other times.

Jwest in reply to Milhouse. | October 22, 2018 at 5:15 pm

So if North Korea, say, launches an ICBM toward the U.S., we have to wait till it actually lands on San Francisco before we obliterate Pyongyang? Or else we’d be in trouble with the law? Really?

Milhouse in reply to Jwest. | October 22, 2018 at 10:41 pm

Milhouse “It would be an act of war, and utterly illegal…”

the timing of this is just too damned blatant–since it seems to be a given and pretty much common knowledge that leftists/democrats/migrants are funded directly/indirectly by soros or his affiliates, why haven’t we done anything to interdict his actions/lock him/them up? what do we have to wait for? why can’t we go somewhere like the world court or even the FBI’s most wanted and have this guy declared a terrorist and a criminal? like osama, put a big enough bounty on his head that he’s either turned over for prosecution or somehow expires ” trying to escape. “

Milhouse in reply to texansamurai. | October 22, 2018 at 10:44 pm

Because he hasn’t broken any laws. It’s not against any law to be a leftist, a Democrat, or a migrant, or to fund their activities. There is no evidence that he has ever knowingly funded illegal actions, such as infiltrating the US border. Find evidence that he’s done so, and the relevant US Attorney will probably be delighted to act on it.
