Harvard President Issues Statement About Upcoming Asian Discrimination Case

“The College’s admissions process does not discriminate against anybody”

Harvard’s new president Lawrence S. Bacow has sent a letter addressing the case and of course, denying the charges.

From the Harvard website:

Dear Alumni and Friends,

As I am sure many of you are aware, the University is being challenged in a lawsuit that alleges discrimination in Harvard College’s admissions policy. The case will go to trial next week, and I write today to share some thoughts with you.

Let me be unequivocal: The College’s admissions process does not discriminate against anybody. I am confident the evidence presented at trial will establish that fact. The Supreme Court has twice ruled on this issue and has held up our admissions process as an exemplar of how, in seeking to achieve a diverse student body, race may enter the process as one factor among many in consideration.

During the trial, the plaintiff is likely to make provocative assertions that will receive public attention and cause some to question our admissions practices. I want all of you to know that each Harvard College student is admitted affirmatively. Each student brings something special to our community and contributes to our rich learning environment in a way that is unique. Harvard would be a dull place—and not likely achieve the educational aspirations we have for our students—if we shared the same backgrounds, interests, experiences, and expectations for ourselves.

At the same time, this lawsuit has the potential to create divisions on our campus and in our broader alumni community. Reasonable people may have different views, and I respect the diversity of opinion that this case may generate. I would hope all of us recognize, however, that we are members of one community—and will continue to be so long after this trial is in the rearview mirror. What kind of community we will be, however, will be determined by how we treat each other over the next few weeks.

IMO, Harvard gets fried…They suffered no penalty when they “solved” their “Jewish Problem” in the 1920s…hopefully their “solution” of their Asian problem will end differently. How will damages be determined?

“We don’t discriminate against anyone. We only give ‘extra points’ to students of certain groups, according to the color of their skin.”

Nope.
No discrimination.
At all.
How much did you say was the price of that bridge?

“Reasonable people may have different views, and I respect the diversity of opinion that this case may generate.”

I almost made it through his lie until I got to this part.

The >old< Supreme Court …. Seems more correct now.

The president of Harvard doesn’t seem to be very honest.

As I read that the term “weasel worded” came to mind.

All the comments about Harvard’s new president are on mark. Since I have long been active in writing to the Harvard alumni magazine against what I call its. Faustian bargain–=referring to his predecessor whose major goal during the last years of her incumbency–punishing students who belong to private clubs that do not admit–roused even strong faculty dissent–I read the new guy’s gushing write-up with dismay. He is another second-rater leftie. But the Harvard connection still counts–Faust got the 1 million Kluge award from the Library of Congress for her contribution to scholarship on that most neglected field the American Civil War. My last comment to the Harv and alumni mag–which was not published–referred its description of. the Communist fraud Angela Davis as a female activist as an example of fake news on the ground that fake news involves what one leaves out as much as is put in. All Harvard alumni are not part of the same left-wing conspiracy.

I understand it’s an affirmative method of admissions. What kind of institution would Harvard be without the donors who add so much money to Harvard? Imagine admitting an over abundance of very smart and talented Asians. Much better to have a bunch of minorities Harvard can tutor to keep up to a minimal level. What’s more affirmative than keeping Asians out and getting a bunch of Asian graduates to state Harvard’s practices of only allowing a few Asians in is fair to everyone? I wonder why those Asians got in. Were there families donors?

Isn’t he wrongfully attempting to interfere with the trial by making statements such as this?

He should be called a s a witness by the judge to answer questions about these false statements.

His argument appears to be that it’s possible to discriminate in favor of some without discriminating against anyone in order to do so.

Perhaps Harvard could find someone who can explain how one can have a fixed incoming class size and selective admissions and still retain this ability to admit more of this without simultaneously admitting fewer of that?

Perhaps Harvard could bring back Larry Summers. Perhaps two plus two does sometimes equal five. Perhaps you could learn to see five fingers there if you just try a little harder, Winston.
