New Policy at U. Minnesota Would Punish Those Who Fail to Use Correct Pronouns

“call them by the right words or risk potential disciplinary action, up to firing or expulsion”

Students and faculty at this school better get used to addressing everyone in xer preferred way.

The Star Tribune reports:

He, she or ze? Pronouns could pose trouble under University of Minnesota campus policy

Using the wrong pronoun could turn into a firing offense at the University of Minnesota.

The U is considering a new “gender identity” policy that would assure transgender men and women, as well as others, the right to use whatever pronoun they wish on campus — whether it’s he, she, “ze” or something else.

And everyone from professors to classmates would be expected to call them by the right words or risk potential disciplinary action, up to firing or expulsion.

The pronoun rule is just one of the proposed changes in a draft U policy that, advocates say, would bar harassment and discrimination against transgender and “gender nonconforming” individuals. It’s designed, in part, to combat an indignity known as misgendering — when someone is called by a name or personal pronoun they no longer use.

So far, the proposal has attracted relatively little attention on campus. But some faculty and students are raising concerns that the U, for all its good intentions, is trying to police what people say.

“To me, it’s a bridge too far to cross for a person to tell me I have to say something … and if I don’t, I can be punished,” said sophomore Michael Geiger, a marketing major from New Prague, who is one of the campus leaders of Students for a Conservative Voice. “There’s a difference between creating a healthy environment and trying to legislate insensitivity out of the U.”

No problem. As this is Minnesota, just call everyone “Norwegian bachelor farmers.”

… for all its good intentions …

Mistake Numero Uno, right there; and a big one. The relentless and concerted assaults on logic, science, and the English language are not motivated by “good intentions.” Persons of confused gender are just the latest tool used by the Progressive left in its assault on Western civilization. Women, blacks, homosexuals, Muslims, and now gender disphorics, all in turn; just successive handles Progressivism can use to club us all into submission.

And why, exactly? To Improve The World™, of course. There’s always a plan to Improve The World. Even the Nazis had one. For all their grievous faults, the National Socialists were at least relatively honest; they admitted that before they could usher in the new era of perfected, Nietzschean Socialist Supermen, they had to destroy the old world. And they set about doing so with enthusiasm; we know that program as World War II.

No, “good intentions” have nothing to do with it.

“Asshole” is not a pronoun, but I would start using it exclusively to reference the U’s administration.

If only it were the Miss/Mrs./Miz confusion all over again – then at least we’d only have three firms of address to confuse us and would get it right most of the time.

No, now we have to remember some unenumerated number of pronouns, including ones possibly unique to a given individual, and face life-changing bad consequences if we make an error.

This is not a set of rules to enforce civility, it’s a set of rules to enable the small-minded among the Left to install fear and panicked obedience. In other words, Fascism.

Isn’t this compelled speech which is the opposite of free speech? I anxiously await the legal case where this idea of compelled speech is fought in court.

“…when someone is called by a name or personal pronoun they no longer use” should read …”when someone is called by a name or personal pronoun he no longer uses.”

Is “F*&%’em” still good to go?

On a campus of 40,000 people, how can you know who is trans or fluid and what their pronouns are? Will they be wearing special badges or hats? I could never even remember my classmates names. This is simply a way to give huge arbitrary power to some messed up people.
