Fun how this works, yes? If there’s a way to mischaracterize Trump, you can bet CNN and MSNBC will have wall to wall coverage, but when it comes to legitimate policy and outreach?

Neither network aired the roundtable discussion live.

Anyway, Wednesday afternoon, Trump went to Long Island for a public roundtable discussion with various experts, law enforcement, and elected officials.

The entire discussion, at least the public portion, is here:

CBS summarized:

“I called them ‘animals’ the other day and was met by rebuke,” Mr. Trump said Wednesday, flanked by members of his administration, local officials and families of victims of the gang. “They’re not people. They’re animals.”

Thomas Homan, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), said Mr. Trump was “kind” with his “animals” comment: “Animals kill for survival, MS-13 kills for sport,” he said.

Mr. Trump, in the context of the discussion about violent MS-13 gangs, floated the idea of withholding a “rather large amount of money” from countries where violent illegal immigrants hail from, “if we give them aid at all.”

“They don’t want the people that we’re getting in that country,” Mr. Trump said. “So we’re going to work out something where every time someone comes from a certain country, we’re going to deduct a rather large amount of money from what we give them in aid — if we give them aid at all, which we may not just give them aid at all, because despite the reports I hear, I don’t believe they’re helping us one bit.”

The president said members of the gang are “exploiting” loopholes in the immigration system. Some gang members, the president said, entered the country as unaccompanied minors, a statement Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen reiterated.

“They look so innocent. They’re not innocent,” Mr. Trump said.

The president, who grew up in Queens, just miles from where he was speaking Wednesday, said it’s “unthinkable” what is happening on Long Island.

“It’s unthinkable that it’s almost like an occupied territory, where your children are afraid to go out,” the president said.

Prior to the roundtable discussion the White House released a fact sheet detailing MS-13:

Trump was widely criticized for calling MS-13 gang members “animals,” comments he refused to walk back. Media outlets mischaracterized his remarks, suggesting he was referring to all immigrants. When it became abundantly clear Trump was referring to murderers, many a Democrat and media member doubled down, defending MS-13.

“CNN and MSNBC Not Interested”

That is OK,I haven’t been interested in them for many years.

“Animals kill for survival, MS-13 kills for sport”

I’ll slightly disagree to this extent; gang members kill for identity and power. It’s a much deeper, darker, and more comprehensible motive than “sport”.

It is pure evil.

And many animals kill for fun. Have you ever met a cat?

So says the animal behaviorist that knows animal sentiments 😉

Animals don’t kill for fun…they kill based on instinct for survival. Vacuum behavior occurs when an animal is domesticated and the instincts are triggered. This is why cats will chase laser lights, bell-adorned toys, fuzzballs, etc. It’s also the same reason your dog circles before he/she lays down.

Many animals do kill for fun, for the sheer joy of killing. The idea that only people do that is one with the idea that Mother Gaea is perfect and humanity is uniquely depraved, a boil on the world that ought to be lanced. Ultimately this goes back to Christian ideas about the Fall, and even further back into pre-Christian pagan ideas. This is the ultimate source of deep environmentalism, the kind that positively opposes anything that helps humans prosper.

Animals are people too with you I see 🙂

Now you’re venturing out of your wheelhouse and into mine…you’re wrong. The animals you describe lack the frontal lobe and limbic capacity to kill for sport. The ones that MAY have it, don’t kill for sport. No amount of attempts to ascribe human characteristics to these behaviors on your part will make it so.

This has nothing to do with hippy naturalist views and everything to do with actual neuroscience.

Ah, but there you go with the facts. Whatever could those pesky things have to do with expertise? (That’s sarcasm, for those readers from Rio Linda.)

My neighbor agreed with you until a raccoon got into his chicken house.

Healthguyfsu, I am sad 🙁 I saw approximately 10 animals this morning on my commute that couldn’t take the hardships of life anymore and apparently jumped out in traffic. Counseling might have gotten through to the skunks but I doubt the deer.

Killing is fun for predators. It would be a piss poor way for evolution to work if it were nothing but a chore or more anthropomorphic nonsense, a moral burden to kill.

Sure MS-13 are animals in the common meaning. Anyone who claims they are being denigrated or demeaned by calling them animals has never met them or their victims. We’re the stupidest country in the world where we have an entire political party dedicated into making these jokers into voters.

Even the Philippines knows how to deal with them.

We had 2 indoor house kittens that had never been outside or stalked prey. Let them onto the deck for the first time and they immediately assassinated 3 birds like they were pros.

My two year-old tomcats found a little squirrel. They tried to adopt it and play with it. The squirrel was not amused.

The Left has a huge blind spot re human nature. Which explains why they keep trying Socialism.

Humans naturally tend to assume others will behave like them. I’ve seen people frozen with shock from witnessing the unimaginable – like a guy shoving a girl in front of a bus just for kicks.

I guess for our bubble-ensconsced out of touch media, MS13 is just a monster the NRA made up to scare us into buying more guns.
